As some may know and some don't, I bought 2 tractors at the big show. My goal was to find a 312 hydro for my daughter. Something that she could drive and pull with 100% on her own. What I found was a 416 hydro with no engine for $100 and a 312-8 with only 325 hrs for $75. I ended up stripping both tractors at the camp site and building a 312 hydro then selling off the extra parts to help fellow collectors keep more horses alive. I don't have photos of along the way but here is the end product all shined up. Just needs new tires and wheels. And my daughter is happy to have a tractor like daddy's.

My biggest D200 and smallest L-107 Lawn Ranger, Wheel Horses have been working on an infrastructure project the last two days. About 18 years ago I built a small bridge to allow us to walk over a small stream on one of our walking paths. Have wanted to make i bigger so I could bring a WH across or my M274 (Mule) when doing trail maintenance. Guess it was a success as it held up the D200 (1000lbs) FEL and York rake (+/-500) Wheel weights and rim guard (250) 1,750 total. Got the beams back before Covid and since then pressure treated for decking was too much $$. Then a neighbor put out big pile of pressure treated from his old deck he was having replaced...Jumped on that and now a bridge expansion

S.W.M.B.O's birthday today so took her out for a surprise meal. Eldest daughter, her two sons plus girlfriends and one little fella were all waiting for our arrival. Youngest daughter and family couldn't make it. Had a lovely meal. Nice big sirloin steak for me. Happy smiling faces and no wonder. I was paying. A little something for the garden. Dougie the Dragon. BTW. Carol turned 70 and it was also the anniversary of our engagement 20 years ago.

Well today I saw a set of tires and wheels for sale on CL. The rears are like new and I needed something for the crusty 856 I pulled out of the weeds. It sat so long in the dirt that the rims just disintegrated. Oddly enough the tubes are still loaded and holding what ever fluid is in there. I got this one with the 500 Special. Not sure what my plans for it are yet but I can at least roll it around now.

Correct. It is a “splint “plane. Similar to a “spill” plane with the exception that it produces thicker straight strips where a spill plane produces a long curly strip. Instead of hand splitting strips which is actually a much better way to do it although time consuming, one makes strips with plane. Next they are smoothed and thinned down a little more by scraping them with a knife. One then steams them or soak them to make them more pliable and stronger. Ideally one starts already with a “ green” board with very straight grain usually ash.

I have a substantial number of K91s that reside outside. Inevitably points always oxidize making them hard to start or not starting at all. My solution is to eliminate points and substitute them with NOVA II electronic module. Instant starts in any kind of weather regardless how long they sit. Also automatic instant perfect timing. A convenient place to install it is on points cover by removing push button and spring.

Kind of a diagonal that qualifies for either Front End Friday or Sideshot Saturday. So I'll post ON Friday IN the Saturday thread.

Another 500 ton delivery of 3" minus stockpiled today. Will run it out next week, up where I had the impacter working today.

Saw this little rig at a convenience store in Buxton today

You could have used a surface box with the AC outlet, run conduit on the outside of the wall, Pulled # 12 or #10 THHN thru the conduit to another surface box near the panel. Then a hole in the drywall to access the back side of the box and panel. Then use a couple of split breakers for some of your lights to free up room and then a DP breaker for your AC. It was nice knowing you.

That eaton 1100 is going to eat 2 hp making that 12 hp engine a 10 hp which is not enough to turn that 48” deck with any performance. You will need at least a 14 or better a 16 hp to effectively utilize that 520.

Just my 2 cents worth here. Until her feet reach the pedals, an adult walking alongside is the only way to allow a child to safely drive any tractor. There was an incident at the big show where a child about her size was driving a similar tractor unsupervised and almost lost control when he couldn't reach the pedals. Thank heavens there were some adults that saw it and had the staff put and end to it. Safety first.

I'm one who does this too. There are 3 standard levels of torque: 1. Guudensnuggin- open end wrench tight. 2. Guudentite- 1/2 inch rachet tight. 3. Fuuchentorqen- impact driver tight. I do re-tap or chase the hub threads any time I remove a wheel and anti-sieze the crap out of the bolts. Same goes for the bolts if they need it. I've never had a wheel loosen, but I've never had to use a breaker bar to remove a lug either.

I know many have used a Predator engine, but I haven't seen one yet that didn't cut the hood to clear the muffler. Personally I would modify the muffler if possible before cutting the hood. Just something to think about. Unless you have a 60 inch deck, 20hp is overkill. Your tractor uses an adapter plate to fit an Onan P series engine, and the frame is drilled to fit a K series or Magnum Kohler. If you're using a 48 inch deck, you can get away as "little" as a 12hp Kohler. Point being, you don't have to repower with another large engine unless you need that much power. The old cast iron Kohlers have oodles or torque, so don't let the lower HP fool you. So long as you keep oil in them, they last forever and are simple and reliable.

Here is a picture of our 701 and 702 together. I am going to fix up the 701 for me and the 702 for my wife. A friend has a 701 with a 702 hood and dash. My wife has always thought that it was cute and wanted one. So, now she has one.

Reduced to firewood, all that remains is to haul and stack in its final resting place.

@Stormin That’s an EZ Rake de-thatcher. I searched for years for one and finally found one advertised in Lawn and Garden collector magazine classified ads. Originally I believe it was for a Cub Cadet but I fabricated a new mount to fit the front mount tach-a-matic. It works great! Thank you for asking, here’s some pictures before and after I restored it.

I'm about to find out. Finally made some space, and hauled the transmission into my "work room". Emphasis more on the "work", since there's hardly any room. Claustrophobes need not apply:

One word of caution, those cheap units don't work to well and will fry a battery. Some work....some don't. Monitor the battery for a few days to insure there are no problems. You get what you pay for!

I adopted a forlorn '68 Lawn Ranger a few weeks back with no clear idea of what to do with it. The grandchildren saw it and immediately started making plans for it: "Gramps, if you add footrests and a closer clutch pedal then we can "learn to drive a stick shift" on it, right?" Ummm. Right.

Light duty.

Another possibility might be to install a small sub-panel in place of the 50A welder outlet.

One thing to note here... I admit that I don't know the rules regarding 'WireMold', plastic or metal, I have never used it myself, but one is not supposed to run NM cable through conduit. For that one should use THHN individual wires. [edit: I just asked Mrs. Google about this and it appears that NM cable in conduit is now OK... I don't believe this has always been true though, more research needed! ] The rules may be the same for the WireMold but I'm just not certain about that. I'm firmly in the "open the drywall" school on this one. There are no shorcuts or "not to code" situations allowed when it comes to electrical wiring!

Here are two more progress photos. I think most of the difficulties are behind me and I'm feeling good about the chances of completing this project. This post also reveals my goal of creating something unique or original. Jack Parr of talk TV and the original host of the Tonight Show said, "there is nothing left to talk about". That is proving to be the case with me and why I get excited when an idea comes to me only to find it's been done

In PeeA, we have to endure an annual “safety” inspection, one example of numerous faulty work was my F250 lug nuts were torqued to 70 ft lbs instead of the required 140. Safety my XXX, these inspections can kill you.
