14 pointsThis was given to me by my father in law. I drove to PA to pick up another garden tractor for him that was his dads. The 312-H has 697 hours, hour meter does work. It has a 42" deck. This will become my weekly grass cutter. I believe it is a 1991. I had to replace that battery as he did not use the Wheel Horse much. It also needs a choke cable and some tire tubes.

12 pointsMy biggest D200 and smallest L-107 Lawn Ranger, Wheel Horses have been working on an infrastructure project the last two days. About 18 years ago I built a small bridge to allow us to walk over a small stream on one of our walking paths. Have wanted to make i bigger so I could bring a WH across or my M274 (Mule) when doing trail maintenance. Guess it was a success as it held up the D200 (1000lbs) FEL and York rake (+/-500) Wheel weights and rim guard (250) 1,750 total. Got the beams back before Covid and since then pressure treated for decking was too much $$. Then a neighbor put out big pile of pressure treated from his old deck he was having replaced...Jumped on that and now a bridge expansion

11 pointsS.W.M.B.O's birthday today so took her out for a surprise meal. Eldest daughter, her two sons plus girlfriends and one little fella were all waiting for our arrival. Youngest daughter and family couldn't make it. Had a lovely meal. Nice big sirloin steak for me. Happy smiling faces and no wonder. I was paying. A little something for the garden. Dougie the Dragon. BTW. Carol turned 70 and it was also the anniversary of our engagement 20 years ago.

10 pointsAs some may know and some don't, I bought 2 tractors at the big show. My goal was to find a 312 hydro for my daughter. Something that she could drive and pull with 100% on her own. What I found was a 416 hydro with no engine for $100 and a 312-8 with only 325 hrs for $75. I ended up stripping both tractors at the camp site and building a 312 hydro then selling off the extra parts to help fellow collectors keep more horses alive. I don't have photos of along the way but here is the end product all shined up. Just needs new tires and wheels. And my daughter is happy to have a tractor like daddy's.

10 pointsThank you, and I'm hungry now. This will likely be the last month I will be making any more WH parts, selling out everything (molds, parts, tools to Lowell S & his family, in fact they'll all be coming over here to learn casting in a few weeks, and purchase everything I have related to WH) at 78 my fine coordination is going quick (had a strong Stroke 3 years ago and still not fully functional, also I'm a Polio survivor from my teenage years and us survivors are have a resergence of that now ( it will be in the News very soon ) much like Covid symptoms. So my hobby/service will continue with Lowell at WheelHorsePartsandMore.com. Now for some left-over cake.

8 pointsLoaded up and ready for the Dodge County Antique Power Club show this week end. Hope that I haven't disappointed @pullstart, I only got 7 garden tractors, a couple carts and a Cockshutt 30 on a 32ft trailer. There is room left to bring one er two more back home from the show though.

5 pointsThis project was born with a different goal adding 10" to the midsection of a 310-8/520H. It is now being built as a new version of what I believe is my original concept. To my knowledge no other custom has been built using a Wheel Horse snowplow frame as a chassie. If it has I want to know so credit is due where it belongs. The second photo is of my original finished chassie, then the start of the rejected project, the transformation and one of this first photos of what to expect if I stay on course. This is basically in the mock up stage. Many issues remain to determine if it "sinks or floats". Any imput is greatly appriecated.

5 pointsThis is the machine running after I rebuilt it. No cylinder in to grind but the hydraulic traverse system works well. I'm very happy with it as I took the pump to a national hydraulics outfit and they had no idea how to fix such an old pump. Graphite string in a stuffing box. Worked perfectly.

5 pointsIntroducing Nell. She should be moving in, in about 3-4 weeks. Just thought I'd let you know, I'll be mooving away soon. Her two sisters and brother took a keen interest in getting my boot laces undone.

5 pointsHello Mike and if I haven't done so. Correct factory hitch was a slot hitch for older tractors. a flat piece of steel was often added to pull a tub. I set up most of my tractors with both a slot hitch and a draw bar. Not in my neighbor hood.
-
5 pointsThere is some truth to this, once they're installed they should be stored vertically not horizontally.
-
4 pointsHi all. Thought I'd start a thread on this one rather than just keep tagging it onto the daily job thread. I bought the grinder just to see if it was possible to get it working as it was a non runner and pretty scruffy. A thorough clean and strip down ensued with problems identified in the drive belts, hydraulic pump and cylinder and the auto reverse valve set up. All problems addressed it now purrs like a kitten (albeit one with a bit of bronchitis) and auto travels the grinding head back and forth beautifully. New stone was expensive but better to be safe than sorry with these things, frost could have split it as its been stored out doors for three years. Just got to make a few adaptors for different cylinder shaft diameters and we are good to go.

4 pointsA 312-H is a solid tractor! Same tranny as a 520-H, paired with a Magnum 12. Definitely a keeper!

4 pointsDidn't get too far along today due to me being a numbnuts. More on that. Quick hone of the cylinder to deglaze and put a cross hatch on it. not even 5 minutes with the hone. The governor gear goes in next. New copper washer for the retaining bolt as the old one was not there when I took it apart. McMaster-Carr # 97725A114 If any body would like some of these I had to buy a bag. I'll put some in an envelope. Painted the timing marks . Now for my screw up. I installed the brass governor nut WITHOUT putting on the throttle cable mount and the ring the throttle cable hooks too. dooing so bottoms out the governor shaft and it wont turn. Scratched my head for a good 2 hours. Finally got on RS and looked at prondzy's thread and when I saw the picture with everything installed the light bulb turned on! When I installed the cam I lubed the inside of the cam and the shaft. I used a hospital forceps to position the cam shim on the PTO side. I tapped the shaft in slowly with a plastic mallet until I felt resistance. Looking in the hole on the outside of the block I could see the shaft end and that the shim was lined up. Used a brass hammer and brass drift to drive the pin the rest of the way.

4 pointsSorry to hear Glen, it does suck to get old just ask my wife! Of the good news about your products and Lowell making them. Was talking with him at shows and was informed his boy Scottie has taken an interest in the art. Now we just need to get the boy into 3d printing and we get get rid of that pesky other 3d character that bums around here. Down side is now I have to deal with Joette! Just kidding.... You know we love you Joette... especially when your not around. Give @wheelhorseman abit to learn the ropes then order from him Mac. Good luck Glen ... fair winds and following seas be with you.

4 pointsOh yeah....used in a sentence... I'd rather be stabbed in the eye with a dull spork than be seen on a green & yellow thing.
-
4 pointsOne of our vendors WheelHorse Parts and More has some very sturdy aftermarket trailer hitches. Just google their name for their website. The owner Lowell is a great guy and supporter of this site.

4 pointsHere's John and me and our machines. I had no idea his motocycle used the snowplow frame. So I am very happy it is wallfish who deserves the credit.
-
4 pointsLooks like you miscounted so I took the liberty of correcting the post for you.

3 pointsI have a substantial number of K91s that reside outside. Inevitably points always oxidize making them hard to start or not starting at all. My solution is to eliminate points and substitute them with NOVA II electronic module. Instant starts in any kind of weather regardless how long they sit. Also automatic instant perfect timing. A convenient place to install it is on points cover by removing push button and spring.

3 pointsGlad the bridge passed the load test. Would have created another project had the bridge not passed - how to remove the D200 from the stream that is entangled in bridge rubble.
-
3 pointsDo like bikers do . Put the penetrating oil in a plastic bag tape it to the cable and hang it up.
-
3 pointsTry stripping the plastic sheath off the choke cable and soaking it down with your favorite penetrating oil. That may free it up. You can buy a roll of heat shrink at Home Depot that can be used to replace the plastic sheath you stripped off. Replace the nut holding the choke cable in the dash with a 3/8" fine thread Keps nut instead of the original nut. I have done this on all my machines and it works great. Very nice machine.

3 pointsI just spied the cart on the front end @Achto .... should I leave the hitch clips at home? We might need some entertainment! Last show fellas I was pulling the cart and somehow the pin wiggled out tongue hit the ground and dumped the occupants. Happened not once but TWICE and the 1055 is pullied for 10 mph in 3rd. I have never had one come out in my life and too fat and lazy to bend over and find that little hole to put the clip in. Clips just get lost anyway. Sad part here is once one of the occupants was my wife.... man did I get a reaming .... like I did it on purpose! Maybe will next time. Rig up a pull cable to the driver's seat and and a rear camera for some action shots

2 points@Mike in NC, lucky you ! to have your FIL give that to you , says a lot . if I were you , make quick work of the things that need help , and put an oil rub down on that finish , my experience is a couple of oil coats feed the paint , use penetrating oil on a clean cloth , after the second coat rub down till dry , any wax , I use a 6' hand buffer , that paint will pop right thru with a deep shine . next time " dad " sees it , he will more that understand , he made the right choice, good luck with that , pete

2 pointsThe missing unicorn piece. All repaired and painted. Thank you Pullstart (kevin) for the front bumper . Base / clear paint

2 pointsMy two outside pulleys were from TSC. The center came from Fleabay. All three were 1 inch bore and 4 inch diameter. Tensioner was from an old WH deck. I marked and drilled the holes for it using an old regular 42SD belt mocked up. The only reason I had to change the belt after was because I figured the spring tension backwards... Your commercial deck may have a tensioner in place that you can keep. Mine was in the wrong place and I couldn't make it work without adding another pulley.

2 pointsBorrow a pic or 2 off the auction if you can and we'll see if the eagle eyes here can PI it. No links to auction site tho club rules ya know.
-
2 pointsI will as soon as the cylinder is mounted square. There are no graduations or reference points on it at all so its not a precision thing. But the cylinder has to be ground perfectly round and with no taper to it which is quite a job with no measuring facility. I'll set my thinking head to that when I get round to it.

2 pointsdone that- 2 miles each way haha. Just to make you guys feel better, I have restored a couple and made em pretty too.
-
2 pointsLowell also offers that flat piece of bar stock for a slot hitch. The slot hitch will have to come off a parts tractor tho but easy to find. #3039 Toro Wheel Hitch Insert for Slot Hitch – Wheel Horse Parts and More Hitches – Wheel Horse Parts and More

2 pointsGet a license plate bracket such as you would use on a trailer. Mounted on the inside of the plate so it's being pinched between the plate and the vehicle and not blocking any of the license plate itself. Mount the camera to the portion of the bracket that sticks out.
-
2 pointsNot sure why the quality is so poor, however its good enough to see how easily we managed to sort the rocks - we did some of this by hand last year and it took forever. Note the still half built shed in the background!!! Things are slowly moving ahead there, the windows arrived the other day, but its a case of finding the free time (and energy) to start putting them in

2 pointsMan, I think that wheel is one that I developed the stamping dies for! Somebody sure mis-treated it. My 40 year engineering carrer was in the automotive steel wheel industry. Lug nut torque - in general 60 to 80 lb ft is proper for 1/2, 9/16 inch or 12 and 14mm studs. I always used 80 lb ft of lug nut torque. Yes, I've used torque wrenches on my cars. I forgot to add that lubrication of the stud is a no no. Lube in the threads messes up the torque/tension relationship. Lube will raise the tension in the stud to a point that the nut seats in the wheel will deform or high enough that the stud will yield or break.
