11 pointsSo far on "Ralph" removed the complimentary wire nuts off of the controls, new Squonk wire and new plug and air filter. Just need to change the fluids do something with the seat and a patina coat.

8 pointsMost of you will never have an issue with the stock replacement head gaskets for the Briggs opposed twins, but just wanted to put this info out there incase: Seems a lot of, if not all, original gaskets had a 'fire ring', and from my non stop digging, they can no longer be found, and you are stuck with the non fire ring, graphite garbage. This appears to be more of an issue in the performance world, but yes occasionally on stockers as well. I have been working with Lani at Copper Gaskets Unlimited for a couple months, mailed a pair of oem gaskets to him, and he has written a program to cut copper gaskets for these engines. This is the first set in the pic, and they are perfect. They are even available in thicknesses from .016 to .125 incase anyone wants to play a little for some more oomph. As you know, copper is also reusable- many times! May be a nice option for when decarboning? CGU is online, give him a call or email if these interest you.

5 pointsHi Guys I found a replacement for that often faulty fuel level sender that we had trouble replacing. What I have found is a sender meant for marine, and also other applications i guess. It is made of stainless, and has no moving parts in the fuel, except from a magnet in a plastic/foam ring. All the gismos is sealed inside the tube, and as such, this should be very unlikely to fail. It came with correct flange and new rubber gasket, and new fasteners. Seems good quality, and I have no hesitations putting it in. Works perfectly. Here is the spec on the one I got. 175mm, 240-33 ohm. 4 pointsDebated on whether to update this thread or let it die, as it certainly is a sore subject for some. Whether you agree with antics like this or not, other than the freak broken reduction gear, I have had ZERO issues with broken, bent or failed drivetrain parts, spindles, frame, steering, factory welds, etc... this is one heckuva testament to just how well these Horses were built!! LOTS of updates in the past two months, will let the pics speak for themselves. I made the cut and was voted in to compete in the 2021 Top Tractor Challenge in Pymatuning, PA. Aug. 14th. 6 different courses, 15 machines. Should be a blast!

Time to flap our wings to go find her! *if you’ve ever considered hosting a foreign exchange student, but have been hesitant for one reason or another, I highly suggest it. Though you might change some kid’s life forever, you’ll be the one winning the most! We love Jil like she’s actually our own daughter, have a great relationship with her parents, aunts and uncles, grand and great grandparents and get to chase her all over the place.

3 pointsNew neighbor from British Colombia had new tires installed on his Dodge Ram, the other day a rear tire came off and passed the truck, he had the truck towed to the local Chrysler dealer who installed one new brake caliper and new pads on the rear. $910.00 The worse part is they reinstalled the fly away rim with badly worn holes, instructing him to re-torque after so many miles, this afternoon we removed one lug nut to inspect the hole which we found to be badly oversize as one would expect. Neighbor figured he could put washers before installing the nuts, told him that is not advisable and that me and my Milwaukee Impact would have no part of his plan.

3 pointsThey do work great… easy too… cut 12” pvc pipe with a circular saw. Very solid. If I recall, The WHrat WHrecker’s are 2” wide… @pullstart has the rest of the 12” pvc pipe… I’m thinking business opportunity… can you say duality spacer kits?

3 pointsGot "Ralph" all done. Replaced the fender with a Commando one from @rjg854. Had to cut the tunnel opening, cut off the old latch bar and mount the 160 latch bar in it's place. I'm letting Ralph pick out his own seat and I'll put it on. A coat of salad dressing and it's delivered!

3 pointsI'm glad I don't live in Waterloo. I have an irresistible urge to take a match to that brush pile. It's the pyro in me. In Wheel Horse news, I got tired of the VOM on the 516H's dash being 5 volts high. Slow day at work so I went out and pulled it. The amazing thing is that the steering wheel pin came out with a standard hammer and drift so I'm playing Lotto today. Tried reverse polarity - you never know. Nothing doing. Had to unroll the cover, remove the pin and realign. Now, I can measure DCV to 4 digits in the garage and I swear that thing was accurate when it was set. It'll just have to do... Before (Key OFF) Before (Key ON) Done! .5 volts is just redneck error. Can't get that glass any cleaner... 400 paper on the roll pin and a nice coat of anti-sieze. Back to the grind...

3 pointsIf it makes you guys feel any better I don't have this trailer set up for dumping wood yet so I actually had to hand load completely.. and hand offload it about halfway. Terrible, this manual labor and burning calories.

3 pointsBased on discussions of the past, a well weighted turf tire in winter time will always outperform a bar/Ag tread. Add chains (and even more weight) and fluid fill ‘em, you’ll be in good shape for pushin!

3 pointsSo. Took off the carb, full of muck. Took off the fuel separater, some muck in it. Cleaned it all out and rebuilt it. Plugs were OK but gap was only 20 thou when the engine label says 40 thou so I reset them to the right gap. Pulled it over and it fired so all looks well. I'm going to let the owner have it back as I cant do much more than that and I don't fancy humping a bin full of water round the shop just to try it. Thanks to all for their input and guidance as always. Mick

2 pointsAluminum wheels .MUST BE RE-TORQUED! I have seen these wheels PROPERLY installed and loosened up in a day , a week and even a month and a half during a trip home to N.Y. from Wash. DC.

2 pointsI finally put this miserable cherry tree on the ground. It was rotten at the bottom and leaning so i left Mother Nature do her work. After months of increasing lean it finally snapped and landed in a crotch of another tree. I started by sawing pieces from the bottom till it was about five feet above the ground, then used a come along to tilt it away from the crotch. This was quite a fight because or the rigging in several directions and the wedging needed on a number of cuts. It fell the best way possible and will be reduced to firewood tomorrow.

2 pointsThe fire ring provides a steel ring all around the combustion chamber instead of having just the graphite gasket edge around the combustion chamber. A copper gasket is a very good alternative to the graphite gaskets and like stated it can be reused several times. Copper was used on many early engines, price of copper prompted many companies to look for more cost effective material.

2 pointsI thought so too! A few years back my wife took her van into the dealership for a recall. While there, she mentioned a strange road sound to the service manager. They checked it out and told her the left rear wheel bearing was bad. Having just shy of 40K on the van it was out of the 36K warranty. The dealer said it would be $300 for the repair. She told them she would have to talk to me and let them know. As it turned up they let her drive it home. I jacked it up..... and oh boy yes, very bad pending failure. I called the dealership and told them I happen to know those bearings are designed to last the life of the car and if one fails in 39K miles there is a much bigger problem. I need the number of engineering in Detroit. Plus, I showed them a extreme amount of displeasure because they allowed my wife, and not even disclosed the danger involved, to drive the car in that condition. They would not give me a number to call but put me through to someone they thought could help. I am not sure who the guy was, but after another short conversation, I was told they are sending a flatbed out and are going to take care of the problem.

2 pointsWhen I drove wrecker, I went on a call to pick up 2 vehicles. One that lost a wheel and the vehicle the had the lost wheel imbedded in it's windshield. Yes, injuries were involved as well. A - The tire shop should be liable for the loose wheel. Unless the lug nuts were not re-torqued after the vehicle was driven 100 miles. B - No respectable dealership or shop should be able to send a vehicle out the door with a faulty critical safety part such as a rim. Personally, I would not have even driven the truck home without a new rim installed. I'm glad that no one was hurt, but I'd be looking for some restitution from the mechanics involved.

Depending on when a particular spark plug chart was printed when Jimbo was standing in the DIY'r at Quick Trip as compared to the chart "apples was looking at at Keystone Auto Parts, account for some of the discrepancy.
