Saw an ad on FB market place, it was only up for 18 minutes when I saw it. I immediately responded to it and picked it up a couple of hours later. It was only 40 minutes away. She also threw in a Rubbermaid cart, for free. It's in good to fair shape. I got it home and got it running. There are a few previous owner's mods - more on that tomorrow. I'll get more pictures tomorrow and find the year also. But for now, just a couple of pictures from the ad.

Update on Howard....from Kevin Howard was doing great his BP, blood levels, and diabetic numbers were stable and great yesterday. But sometime between last night and today, Howard’s blood levels came back and the doctors did not like what they saw so they did some more testing and come to find out there is some internal bleeding going on. The doctors stated that it can stop all on its own or if the bleeding continues they will have to go back in and stop the bleeding. Howard and his family are asking for prayers and thoughts that the internal bleeding will stop on its own and that he will not require another surgery to fix this. Kevin appreciates all of your thoughts and prayers and wants you all to know how much this wheel horse family means to him and his family! Lowell and I know who the donor is and we have been asked by Howard’s family and the donor’s family not to release that information as they want to keep the donor’s name and identity anonymous. Just know that the donor is a caring, compassionate and selfless individual who loves to help his fellow man and this world needs more of these people!

Putt Putt came to me in ‘13, but then it was “just a lawn mower.” With the addition of my next ones, a pair of C-101’s, well...

I'm done, I sold my last custom WH in a matter of days after it was completed. I have no regrets that it is gone, I am free. Well not really free because I still have a C-165, IH 100, my custom wheel stander and a Z turn. But I was only fooling myself because I gave a low ball bid on a 520H roller. I never thought it would be accepted and now I am back in the game as fast as I quit.

Just spoke to Howard. He sounds great, says he feels great. All went well. Can only lay around for a few weeks while muscle heals around kidney. He'll be back... Few words about the donor. He called Howard about hub caps he listed on Facebook. Found out they lived close so he stopped by to pick them up. When he learned about Howard's situation he offered to donate. Let that sink in... The day two great guys met....

More on this 314-8. First off, this isn't my first 314-8. Years ago I bought a 1998 314-8, kept it for a couple of years and ended up selling it to a missionary that was in Guatemala. His brother, who lived in Illinois, would make a couple of trips a year to Guatemala, with supplies and stuff to the mission down there. The missionary's parents had a Wheel Horse when he was growing up and knew they were good lawn tractors. They were using various Craftsman down in Guatemala and they wasn't holding up. I had my '98 314-8 for sale on CL and he saw the ad, and called me. Quite a shock to get a phone call from Central America. Anyways, I delivered the tractor to his brother in Illinois and it made it's way down to Guatemala. That was in 2009, so I haven't heard from him since. Now on this 314-8. The model number is 73449, making it a 1999. My '98 did not have the mow in reverse feature, this one does. But, it's probably been defeated. There is a push button switch to start it, a toggle switch that is serving as a kill switch. The ignition switch will turn on the ignition, but won't kill the engine. There is a key switch under the seat that seems to be a momentary switch...I have to research that to see if it's original, though I believe it's function is the mow in reverse key switch. There is a spring that retracts the clutch pedal - the dampener must be worn out and needs replacing. Lights work, but one taillight is missing. A little dent to the front corner of the hood. But, overall, the tractor is in decent shape. Sounds good, after I had to prime the fuel pump. Choke cable sticks a bit, and needs lubricating. Goes and drives in each gear. I hadn't tried the PTO yet, I will later today. The seller bought this house last year and the tractor came with it. The previous home owner showed the current owner how to start it (remember push button and toggle switches). But there it sat in the garage until I got there yesterday. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, but for the price I couldn't pass it up. Now for the pictures.

Today we had to put down our loving companion of the last 14 years. A real hard and heart wrenching decision for us. It’s going to take a while to get over it if possible at all. We brought her home and buried her under her favorite window where she spent most of her life watching all the birds , squirrels and chip monks. She will be in our hearts forever. Rest In Peace dear Bailey.

Well it runs and drives and all operates as should. Lights need some new wiring. But over all i think im just gonna clean it up good, go through the mechanics and then slap a implement on and have some fun.

@squonkWhenever I go on a road trip I’m always looking/hoping to see a sign like that. I wonder how many Wheel Horses I pass that are in a garage or shed that the owner would love to talk about?! I have a Wheel Horse sign on my fence at the beginning of my driveway, but I live on a dirt road that nobody really comes down except my neighbors or someone that’s lost!!

God has sent angels to all of us in times of need. We may have passed it off as a fortunate coincidence but God's mighty hand was at work. This is the first time I've never heard of hub caps being a part of God's plan but there is no doubt in my mine that they were. Most gracious God, though Howard and his donor are dreading the complications of life after surgery, I know that You can dwell in the most difficult times of our lives. Be present with both people and their families and ease their suffering, for You know what it is like to suffer in our flesh. Bring all the family members and hospital staff attending Howard and the donor close, that they might have communion with You through suffering. Let all of us feel Your presence, my God. Amen.

I don't get many. I don't know how many on here follow pro basketball, I certainly don't. Anyhoo, My cousin, (although distant), was chosen in in the NBA draft. not first round, but chosen anyway.

Aww close but I was looking for the full name it's a Red Tip whizzmo. Your consolation prize is a pair of I ❤ john deere socks lol. In all seriousness I'm impressed anyone recognized this contraption.

This what I did to a 246H. Unthreaded the knob and added a extension to bring it up next to the wheel.

I somehow missed that remark, and I agree completely. The only "if" I would add would be if the condition of the tractor is good. There is a 520-8 speed locally on Craigslist for $2200. 48 deck and electric lift already on it. Relatively low hours as I recall. While that is steep, dollar for dollar you can't find a good zero turn for that money, and we all know how rugged these tractors are.

I wasn't looking for yet another project but when I read it runs and drives at $100 I couldn't say no. I'm really suprised how well it operates. $1,000,000 to the first who can correctly name the brand. No Google image searching is allowed lol I'll know.

She passed with her little head cradled in my hands looking into my eyes. Made her a simple little coffin and wrapped her in her favorite blanket along with her favorite toys ,pillow and one can of her favorite food for her journey. One of the saddest days in my life.

I have both a 310 and 312-8. I’ve been mowing with them both for 20+ years and I honestly can’t tell a difference. I’ve used a 42” recycler and 37” bagger setup interchangeably on both. I mow less than an acre so for me they work well. Btw the 310 was well used when I got it. The guy used to drive around with it on a trailer tilling gardens. So the tiller would be fine. I’m not sure where it would be a factor but my 312-8 has 1-1/8 axles and eight pinions. My 310-8 has 1” axles and four pinions.

So, on with the reel grinder. The hydraulics are powered by a gear type pump which is in good shape, but the gland type shaft seal is all dried out and useless. Made of graphite rope I will need to make up a new one to pack the seal cavity with prior to tightening up the gland. Anyone had any experience with this type of seal? The alternative is to machine out the gland to take a modern seal but its high pressure. So I'm off to a pump specialist on Monday to see what my options are. New belts arrived this morning and the grinder shaft now runs as sweet as a nut. Can try the other belt as it runs the hydraulic pump.

Cool their flying the Texas Flag. That would lead me to believe it is part of what used to be called the “Confederate Air Force”. They changed the name with all the political correctness but I don’t remember the new name. They are all volunteer and work to restore and keep lots of old war birds flying or as static displays.

I think the 314 is the sweet spot on wheel horses...a little more mowing power with the 14hp, single cylinder Kohler(major plus), and not nearly as sought after as the single cylinder 16hp Kohlers in the c-165 and 416, etc. Great find and I bet it was an excellent value! Looking forward to the next update on it!

My shooting was aimed at details I wanted to take away and not so much on general views. Sorry. Snowdrift "armed" and dangerous! Hiram left side brake mechanism with Snowdrift in the background Didn't catch the name but the sheet metal work sure did catch my eye! Hood/nose? Exhaust stack heat shield? Hood stand? Seat base? Fenders? Just wow! (Hiram in background)

Would just guess their blood types and all that need to match. Wow...were they WH caps? That might have been a good omen from the git go! Lowell /Joette @wheelhorseman you catch this?

I HATE CALCIUM!!!! It was leaking into my rim, and I wanted to change the tube to just air. I have the brand new tube… it was gonna be simple… ya right! So a friend and me decided to take the tire off the rim, well I shoved a flat bar thru the rim. I decided the rim welded. I had CRC rust converter and it was painted by me all over the rim. Primer on the inside of the rim. Primer and paint on the outside. And then silicone on the rusty hole. Tire part; there was calcium all over the inside of the tire, and there was rust (rusty rim) inside the tire.. so I washed that out. All clean tire!! Now it’s ready for tire to be mounted to the rim!! @ebinmaine you and I were talking as I was dropping that tire off this morning, I have been busy! Did I mention that I don’t like calcium!!!!😀

I like them , nothing against you Gregor. Only bought this one because of the lights. Well the big block stuffed under that 65 hood didn’t help the matters much and the ridiculous low price !

Just a follow up on the new lights in the garage. I switched them all out. I got curious about amp draw. I checked the draw on a fixture with ballast, 2, 96" high output, T-12 bulbs. 1.6 amps. I swapped out the bulbs and ballast for 2, non-ballast, 96" LED bulbs .6 Amps. I expected more of a difference, but I like really these a lot.
