UPDATE on Howard... This morning I woke up to a text message from Kevin, Howard's son, informing me that Howard was getting prepped for surgery. The special individual who stepped up to donate one of their kidneys was already in surgery. Throughout the day, I have received updates from Kevin, stating that everything was going okay and that there were no complications. The OR nurse did state that they put in a line into Howard's neck as a precaution in case he developed some heart issues. At about 11 this morning, they started opening up Howard because his new kidney was out and in the OR. The special individual is doing well and is in recovery. Howard made it through the surgery and now is in his own room in the hospital. Please continue with the prayers and thoughts for all families involved. Please pray for a speedy recovery, that Howard's new kidney does not get rejected, that Howard has no complications in the healing process, that his family can be with Howard during this time, that the donor's family and the donor have a speedy recovery, that they have no complications in the healing process, and that their family can be there with them. Howard and his family would like you to know how thankful they are for all of your thoughts and prayers during this time. I will keep you posted as I know more.

Was just finishing up the yard on the 520 when the neighbor drove up to me to see if I was interested in the Lion’s Club trim mower they haven’t used in years…we jumped started it and I drove it home… I paid the man and gave it a quick hose down….. nice project for the winter…

I picked this up over the last weekend. Drove down to near Metropolis, Illinois (Brookport, to be exact). It sort of a Frankenstein tractor, especially the engine. It appears to be, from certain features, an early 1948. Holes in the grill for the "Ferguson System" badge that were on the 9Ns and 2Ns tractor, and Ford did not remove the holes until later in 1948 (though Ford did not put the badge on the 8Ns at all). Steering knuckle is from an earlier 8N. Oil filler tube is on the forward part of the engine as the earlier 8Ns had front mount distributors and the generator on the right. In 1950, Ford changed the engine to mount a side distributor on the right side, moved the generator to the left side, and move the oil filler tube back and down on the left side to allow for the mounting of the generator. The engine on this 8N seems to have been modified with a side distributor, which means the timing cover and cam had to be changed out. Since the block is from an earlier 8N which had the oil filler tube on the forward left side of the block, they just smashed the filler tube against the block, which means the cap is almost touching the underside of the fuel tank. I can get the cap off and I believe I can add oil with a flexible hose. The filler tube is smashed to allow the alternator to be mounted on the left side (yes, this has been converted to 12V). The hood was painted to cover rust spots that if you get closer to the tractor, the rust spots are clearly visible. In addition to the images, I'm attaching a short video of it running that the previous owner made.

I would go with the 314 just because of the Kohler. If she blows I can fix her. If the Onan blows yer done.

Well I finally got it going. Gave it some gravity fed petrol and it started more or less straight away. It even has drive forward and reverse. Need to try and source a few bits now. I’m needing a pair of foot rests, belt guard, and a seat pan fender. I’m in the uk so if anyone knows of any that are about please let me know. just tried to upload a video of it running but file is too big. This is the only picture I have of it.

Mounted the new pump on the loader tonight no leaks and works smooth and quiet.

I would go with the 416-8 with the Kohler 16hp Magnum engine. One I wish I could have back.

Kudos to the list. The slimy green Lucas grease has been applied to the 48" deck spindle #1 - applied in bulk with a large screwdriver to save pumping a gun for 20 minutes. Add the zerk - No! Won't start. Here on the list, it was said that zerks are always 1/4 - 28 and this deck was missing two of them. Neighborhood Ace had it (not @Home Crappo), though the youngster didn't know what the heck a zerk was. "It's that nipple that gets the gun" - "oh, grease fitting". Took all of 10 minutes to apply all three zerks to the spindles. I'll have these new silent running spindles done tomorrow after spraying the Rustoleum truck bed liner on the underside. It's getting closer!

314 would be my first choice! Good all around tractor! I use 42 recycling deck, 36 inch snowblower and 36 inch tiller on my 314! Outside of the 1960 and 70 ten and 12 HP Kohler driven tractors I think the Kohler K and Magnum 14 were great. I do own a couple c-160s with the 16 HP Kohler K motors and they are great too. I never owned an Onan powered Wheel Horse and don’t plan on owning one. IMG_6007.MOV

I have some 3 point attachments that I picked up for my 2N, so both the 2N and 8N will see duty with those attachments. I want to add more attachments as time goes by. Right now, I have a back blade, a rear reversible scoop, a two bottom moldboard plow, and a boom pole. I have plans to add a brush hog, a 3 point carrier or maybe a 3 point fork lift.

In my opinion there is no sweeter sound than an Onan purring away under load. There is also no small engine that is harder on your wallet when it comes to repairs. For this reason and this reason alone, I would choose the 314-8.

Put some new shoes on the ole grass cutter 800 special.Found some nice ag tires at the PA WH show for a nice price. Man let me tell you these tires were a pia to get on with hand tools.😂 Everyone recommend soap and water to help get the tires on but I found wire pulling lube to work much better.I believe it’s just KY lube packaged different 😆 Try it next time changing tires ,it works like a charm ! I think The tires look good but tear up the grass on steep hills but I already was expecting that , at least I’ll look good doing it I also replaced the PTO clutch pad and up graded the belt to a b95 much less slap. Next on list is to figure out how to put a better trans in .This one has the lighter Peerless 1400 trans in it.

I like them both,but for ease in repairing and ease in obtaining engine parts,I'd go for the 314-8.Both VERY capable tractors.

Some new parts arrived in the post today Hopefully that will sort out the fuel pump issue with the C125.

So cutting it off did work well. As suspected, the pin through the transmission case came out quite easily, but the bits of pin in the hitch clevis seem like they are going to have to be drilled out. Anyway, it's now possible to open the transmission, which was my goal. Thanks all!

Well if your asking about a '92 314-8 with a Kohler Magnum, and a '93 416-8 with a Onan, in the same equal shape then the 314 hands down .

Collected the second blade grinder today, only a few miles up the road so a nice trip. Its a heavy lump so will need breaking down into bits to move round. Looks pretty sound and will benefit from the Whitts patented renovation system. White spirit and elbow grease.

Made it to the top of the mountain this morning. Swapped out the flail mower on the wheeled for the rock cutter attachment and will start working our way back down.

Got the C81 and C121 aka The Black Horse to give them a run. I must try the sat nav on the Black Horse. With the bigger tyres on the rear, it can really gallop along. I'm sure it's faster than the Sears. That will do 6.3 mph. I then did a little re-arranging in the workshop.

Looks like the right rear wheel is about to fall off.

I have an old low end 2 cycle Lawn Boy 'Scamp' ... non self propelled have not used it in years - but when I did I used it to clear brush near our house similar to you great lawn mower ; darn near indestructible

And the rest of the road over the top of the mountain cut, ready to be graded, and capped with material.

Well a few times a year I mow in the woods behind my backyard. It's kind of an open area by a creek and we like having it open to walk and spot animals in. Kids will play and woods romp, etc. But if I don't stay on it it will be overtaken by brush and become so thick you can't see or walk in it. Anyways... I had already let it go more than I usually do so today I had the time to do it. It is 95 here so not ideal but it is shaded. Tools for the job are a gold series 2 cycle lawnboy, and an echo srm-225. This mower is a beast and the higher rpm's the 2 cycle can run at really do the trick on the thick vines coming out of the ground. They will wrap and bog down my 4 cycles, but not the lawnboy. Brush mowing duty probably wasn't it's intended purpose but it does it better than any mower I've used. It has a robust blade too. It's about twice as heavy as normal one... single passes and the lawnboy is just eating it up. And done...

@c-series don you look a little lite on the C-Series models

That really surprises me Craig. I have run 42"SD on 312H, C-120H, and Raider10 and they have all done a great job. Just my experience. For the 48"ers I use the 417H

I best come get yer 520 then Dan.... It is a love hate relation with an Onan but nothing like the sound or power of one when stuffing a deuce into a snowbank. I had a 416 for a short time once but was just so accustomed to a 520's steering so it had to go. That and the fact the Onan got into my wallet right from the git go so she went to someone I didn’t like..... my step son...kidding! It's just the fact that when I go looking for K or M parts easy to find and easy on the pocket. An Onan it's soul searching do I really want to save it?

If you have soft soil, I would think that wider is better. Just too keep from cutting in when you turn. Did some sandblasting today once the rain cleared… well it was more of a drizzle than anything. For some reason some of the primer didn’t come off or the metal has been discolored which is why it has the weird pattern. Now I am priming the exhaust again.

Sounds like it has no compression. Turning over too easy. Garry

AC thanks I may have to go that route and see how long those junk tires will last Oli-44. My front wheels are silly wide, I'd say atleast 5". I think a set of narrow 3 rib tires would look like one of those road scraping ricers with their wheel sticking past their tires! factory fronts are 16-6.50-8s

Only just, a couple had to be pushed away as they are more curious than your average cat!

It's not as effective as it should be, foxes are very clever and will always find a weak point. It's too protect our piglets as we generally have around 1500 running about the place.

Hah...I know what you mean... @lynnmor has helped me on some things on here...I have found that he is more than willing to instruct as needed, but he would also tell me to read the manual, perform a test or function, and get back to him... It's the give a man a fish- teach a man to fish thing...

They will suck air and not leak fuel out. This happens where the fuel line is pushed onto a nipple but is too hard to grab the nipple and seal the connection. New supple fuel line should fix it. Garry

Also got the autobahn I was cutting through the woods last week capped with material today.
