12 pointsPortage show a couple of weeks ago I see this girl sitting all by it's lonesome on the auction block. I had first thought is was a bucket lister 855. Cardboard sign on it says consignment for auction so now have to patiently wait for auction tomorrow. Auction time comes and I see it's an 856... oh well I'm in love and committed and It's mine for 300 clams. I know Pullstart wanted to jump in just cause he's an auction junkie but didn't want to rain on my parade. Thanks Bro... I gave him the deck to ease his pain. Also had a blower and nice front blade with it but those were sold separate and I had no interest in it. Blower & blade heavy ya know... It sports a crude rattle can job but other wise complete & starts & runs great with no smoke. Jacks boy @Coulter Caleb drove it back to camp for me. Appears this tractor has come full circle here at RS K181 Full Throttle - Engines - RedSquare Wheel Horse Forum

10 pointsIt is red but not a WH. Beats moving around with an engine lift. Easier on me and faster.

9 pointsThis was a fun save project with my 8 year old son, Jack. This would be his tractor so he can have some fun and help out with yard/land work...and have a good learner tractor that if he crashed into something or whatnot I wouldn't lose my mind over it! Ha! So we picked up this MW 12/38 Industrial Commercial series lawn tractor for $40 over this past winter. Had the good Briggs flathead cast iron series engine. Typical story of hadn't ran in who knows how long and owner needed it gone. It was all there so we picked it up. Didn't take much really to get it going, we rebuilt the carb, replaced fuel lines and cleaned out the gas tank, basic oil change, air filter, and spark plug, new battery. Once we knew we had a solid runner we did pull the head and clean it, set the valve clearances and new head gasket. Really the biggest expense was 4 new tires. We did use some ATV style ones for the rear just for some added traction. We'll save the 38" deck project for later, it needs rebuilt but we'll let Jack get used to driving it for now. Overall the tractor turned out good and Jack loves it! It was a fun project with him. My wife joked that I must be getting impatient for a first truck project when he's 15, LOL! She's probably right...Well anyways here's some pics after we were all finished up. It is red so thought it would be okay to post it up here! thanks for looking!

9 pointsWell... I did it. I gave my employer my RETIREMENT notice today! As of August 6th I will be among the ranks of the fully retired. Thirty Two years at that job! Gone in the wink of an eye. You youngsters take note of three things: 1. SAVE SAVE SAVE as much money as you can afford NOW! If you do you will be able to retire early and not wait till you're old. 2. TAKE CARE OF YOUR TEETH! RELIGIOUSLY! You're going to need them for a LONG TIME! 3. BUY the BEST MATTRESS you can afford! You spend 1/3 of your life there, might as well be comfortable! That's all you need to know.

8 pointsSo I bought a Toro Timesaver 50” a few months ago. It was like new but after using it on my hills it was just not good for my property. Too light and rear wheels were too small to hold the hills. Sold that on Monday morning and Monday afternoon I picked up this 2013 Ferris 52” 700 series zero turn. The machine is a one owner with only 660 hours. After a bath and tune up it is everything I could want in a mower. I love my horses but this machine is the cats meow. Big Briggs twin runs mint and has tons of power. The machine has shocks all around. I ordered up some Carlisle trail tires foe the back and that should help hold the hills. It is not a horse but it is red!

8 pointsSo back at camp, over cocktails of course, I says to Dan why the heck did I buy that tractor? I think I got a 856 on that last load of five tractors I bought? Sure enough I get home and I forgot all about ole pale face. She's more of a project but bet Dan can have it running inside of an hour so he takes custody of her! 'Sides she's missing the cigar lighter and I know he's holding a few! Gotta luv the crapsman seat!

7 pointsStarting to see some activity on the minerals. Over 300 pics in 5 days. Here are a few. Just noticed I caught BIGFOOT on this pic. Coyote

6 pointsI tried loosening the lug bolts and drove in tight circles with no luck. A couple large washers bolted to the back side of the hub and a BFB did the trick. It popped right off. No danger to the axle snap ring.

6 pointsIt's alot like hunting Ben ...sometimes you just get blind $hi% house lucky but patience helps. Some times they just find you. Me thinks Jeffery has got a horseshoe up his @$$. Say you like big blocks stuffed in a shorty AC? Yep I'm ther for ya ... I got a extra short pan 241 that I cant seem to give away! Kev was sposed to get it but I would rather see it go to some one that would DO something with it !

5 pointsNew to the forum. My cousin purchased a piece of property and abandoned in a shed were 2 312-8's and the remains of a few round hood models. My father had already checked the Kohlers for function. My cousin had no interest in the machines so my dad took the newest 312-8 and I took the other. He plans on finding a snowthrower for the front of his. I got a 42"side discharge mower deck, a full long frame mount plow/dozer, a tine harrow and a garden plow. A battery later and It runs quite nicely. I did snag one of the old round hoods as it was uniquely painted and cobbled together a temporary mount while I fabricate something nicer. It's a nice tractor. I quite like it! I m sure I'll have questions, but for now just reading up. Here's where I'm at.

5 pointsMy son bought 10 acres recently and has a nice one starting to develop. Needless to say, he is excited.

5 pointsWith all the rain we've gotten lately, and a 50' willow tree that was pretty much gone. It fell over sometime Saturday night. A couple of days to cut and pile a lot of the branches and wisps got it somewhat down to size. And today I started burning the piles and cutting up the trunks and adding them to the fire. Tomorrow I'll continue cutting up what's left and I just might possibly have this all cleaned up by the weekend.

5 pointsThe switch needs to be grounded so it can kill the ignition system.

5 pointsWell that’s what I’m been telling myself for a couple years now but as a true horse-a-holic we all no better . So Sunday evening checking out Craigslist (I do keep a eye out for other members too ) I come to this ad that said hasn’t ran in couple years but always stored inside. I see what looks to me is a big block stuffed under a short hood . I was adding up other clues that it was a 1055 plus you could just make out the headlights poking out behind the hood and that really got my attention. Had to pm @WHX24 Jim to see if he concurred with my observation . All this for a price that you know it’s going to be gone within hours . I just happened to be the first caller and I explained my situation and he would hold it for me . He had no clue what he had other than it was a old Wheel Horse that his brother left him and that he had since the early 70’s . I happen to make the comment of it having a stack and it looked good and he said it has lights too . So yesterday evening my cousin went to pick it up which made the whole deal better was it was only 23mins away from us . It’s not pretty by no means as it’s like its been painted with a brush. Only things I’ve found wrong is it’s missing the hood ornament , tab for hood release , cigarette lighter , knob for light switch and center cap for steering wheel . Has wrong seat , shifter knob and dash is boogerad up with wrong key switch and a push button where the lighter should be . All in all I think I did pretty good on this one . I bought the headlights setup and got the tractor for free . This one will make someone a great restoration project minus the lights someday. @gwest_ca don’t know if you have a registration for these.

5 pointsYes, this is the way it is designed, but if brakes are out of adjustment or need other service, then they may not hold. That is why you ALWAYS SHOULD chock your wheels when parking an air brake equipped vehicle .
-
5 pointsIt'll probably end up all colours of the rainbow and covered in pretty flowers. Like a VW micro bus on steroids.

4 pointsI'm out in the middle of nowhere. There isn't another house within a 1/4 a mile of me. Yard waste is ok to burn in this township. There's only certain times of the year that you're not supposed to have open fires. This fire is in the middle of my yard, and with all the rain we've had, I'm not overly concerned about it spreading. As you can see there's no rip-roaring flames.
-
4 pointsFor now this. Had this since the early 90s. When I got it I rebuilt the engine,c6 trans and transfer case. I got about 100,000 miles on it before carb issues caused me to park it. Time slipped away but here we go again..

4 pointsDefinitely need a sign on the back that says ”This vehicle stops for all Wheel Horses”
-
4 pointsAgreed. Although I don't always do it. In fact on a HAZMAT vehicle it's a law to use chocks. Having passed inspection recently they certainly should work fine. Just as a point of interest you may already know... If the "spring brakes" or parking brakes aren't working you CAN NOT drive the vehicle legally. Anywhere. At all. Even to repair. It must be done on site.

4 pointsHaven’t used the toy hauler yet this year . Been wanting to do it for the last couple years as it looks like a pretty good time . My RJ isn’t afraid of working some dirt .
-
4 pointsJust store your patio blocks flat across a large area of ground and cover with a "temporary" garage. Lol

4 points@ZXT 😁 I wondered how long before someone spotted those! 🤗 I couldn’t resist the temptation to take a couple of photos, knowing how much folks like to see them. I have too much respect for the Wheelhorse to put that amount of tongue weight on the poor thing, but it has moved, (Just to see if it would), a loaded twin axle close coupled hay trailer 12’ x 6’, (this one is 16’ x 7’) with a couple of 56lb weights sitting on the hood to stop it lifting. The three point lets me put as much tongue weight (for traction) as I need. As I live in the Cambridgeshire “Fens”, “Hills” are few and far between. p.s. No Horses were harmed during this post!
-
4 points@ACman if you end up with Uncle Jim’s K241 ‘fore I do.. I’ll trade you his steal seat pan he gave me to give you for it!
-
4 pointsGot that right ... just bought a 856 at auction and come to find out I already had one at home I didn't know I had...

3 pointsMaking the OOS Dodge into a more reliable hauler, but as usual, Wheel Horse is a part of it. The old 1994 Ram 1500 was leaking at the driveshaft pinion seal at the rear end. The seal is metal to metal and driven into the gear box. I was pretty miserable lying under a jacked up, but still difficult installation that just did not want to start. I put the stubborn new seal into the freezer while I carefully sanded around the housing, looking for any burr. I knew that once that cold seal lip hit the housing, it would be difficult to tap around the lip to seat it, and then the idea hit to take the drive pulley from the C-160 that just days ago burned the bearing would fit over the splined shaft and let me apply even pressure while driving it in. So a combination of freezing the seal, removing all burrs, and the perfect seal driver courtesy of Wheel Horse sealed the deal. So far I have 817.00 in a truck that is a solid driver in pretty decent shape

3 pointsCommonly heard refrain from those seeing abstract art. My response? Encourage the kid to go for it, sign on as their agent, then see if anyone will buy it to fund your retirement.

3 pointsI don't know Jeff I always thought a 1045 was somewhat of a rare bird but saw a few at the BS and one was even 4 sale at what I thought was reasonable. @Bailey855 was hankerin for one and recently scored.

3 pointsIn NY paint can remain. All warning lights and school ID are blacked out or removed.
-
3 points@pullstart Just watched your video again. As for the tranny not having a park position. Given the fact that this bus has air brakes there really is no reason to have park. Once you release the air from the system by pulling the parking brake knob, it will not move until the brakes are pressurized again. The work around for this if you decide to do a transplant - A manual parking brake on the drive shaft would work well. Example : Our IH 4700 has a cable operated disc brake set up on the drive shaft, you will burn the clutch out before the truck will move once the parking brake is set. You also mentioned that the yellow paint was faded. If you decide to keep the bus, the chrome yellow & black paint job will have to go any way. This paint scheme can not remain on a bus if it will be used for a purpose other than a school bus.

3 pointsGave my mud mower a 3/8" body lift with some steel plate I had leftover. That's about the most I could go without buying new bolts, but it gives the 25x10 ATV tires just a little more clearance. While I had the fender off I gave it new LED taillights and wired a 4pin trailer plug (only wired the ground and running lights since I don't have a brake switch, yet). Looks pretty cool with my recently completed harbor freight trailer in tow.

3 pointsAmazing what 12 horses will do😃 Just think, in places like, India, Pakistan and China, a set up like this would probably be classed as “Road Legal”!!! 🤪 113 bales of hay on trailer.s
