Howard has been dealing with some health issues the past few years and he has been going to see the doctors for those health issues. He informed me that he was put on a kidney transplant list and was waiting for a kidney. Well, earlier this evening I was informed that they found a kidney for Howard and that he will be going into surgery tomorrow morning. I am reaching out to all of my wheel horse family and I ask that you keep Howard in your thoughts and in your prayers for a while as he goes into surgery, for his family, for the donor and the donor's family. I am asking you guys to leave comments on this thread for Howard to read once he is able and help me show him our love for him. He is always at the Big Show helping out in any way he can. Now it is our turn to help him out with words of encouragement.

I did a bunch of small fixes to the 312-8 that I use for mowing. She has 1644 hours on the clock. - removed/pressure washed deck and greased spindles - sharpened blades - oil change (I'm commiting to doing it every 25hrs and using quality SAE30) - fixed very loose hood hinge by ditching the factory rod setup, then welding the egged out holes and redrilling them to accept 3/8" bolts with nylock nuts. Hood is completely stable now. - replaced fuel line before and after fuel pump. Also added an inline filter - drained tank and cleaned it out with the old paper towels and compressed air trick. Also replaced fuel petcock and gasket.

I started out planning to mow the right o way around the farm and some woods trails. I got about a 1/4 mile from the house and the deck drive belt came off. I loosened the mule drive andreached under to put the belt back on the center pulley and it was gone. I found the pulley in the grass to the left of the tractor. Lucky it didn't go the other way into the beans. The spindle had dropped downnand the blade was dragging, so I had to find some ramps to get it high enough to get the spindle out for the ride home. When I took the deck off, the bolt and washers were still laying on top of the deck. While I had the deck off, I removed the other two spindles and greased the bearings. These do not have zerks. Back to mowing after the 2 hour delay.

I got my face slapped one time for saying that... Sorry, probably inappropriate under the circumstances

Plenty of antics for sure... When the day is done we set in the horse barn and mostly talk stupid! Saturday nite @Bear G musta went and robbed a liquor store for what he brought to the party! Dan giving our friend Mara a lift and Mara and I getting a lift! Bloody Mary bar! Dan says you can't drink all day you don't start early! The twilight cruise.... Friday nite we were riding past the barn which had the features in it and we waved the guys to come join. All of a sudden tractors came poring out of the barn like bees from a hive! Bet we had a hundred tractors on that ride. Had a real nice entourage for Friday breakfast at a close by restaurant. Speaking of eats our tradition of Thursday something smoked and Friday nite fish fry. Mrs P made some jello shots that were a huge hit! Very huge to @ronwh for providing the delish smoked pork steaks!

Great show as usual and lots of fun and tractors. Was really nice seeing lots of old friends and meeting some new ones. The layout was a little different due to improvements to the grounds but we adapted. A very nice turnout of horses as the pics will show. My line up Dan's line up .... Kevin's herd.... For those to don't know it we park all of the horses in the barn that is used to house cattle for the fair. Mike's 854 and a Pond b hind he scored for chump change in the flea market.

Was surprised the turf tires moved this big log! Was thinking for sure it wouldn't have enough bite. Must have been all the added extra weight with me sitting on it

I was just talking to Howard's son, Kevin, who will be updating me on Howard's status. Here is what Howard's wife, Tammy put on Facebook today..."Tomorrow morning Howard will be receiving a second chance at life. A wonderful person has stepped forward to donate a kidney to Howard so he can continue to live a normal life. Please keep us in your prayers and hope for a successful transplant. This gift of life doesn't come around often so we are very thankful." Please know that Howard, his family, the donor, and their family appreciate all of our prayers and thoughts. I will keep you all update as I get updates from Kevin.

Well since I have the flywheel off of the 500 Special to get new coil, points, and condenser. I thought I would do some more painting. The engine was not original and had nice paint on it but it was gray. Not anymore. I'm not going to paint the whole engine as the blower housing covers most of it. I will be painting the wheels when they come back from getting new tires mounted. I wanted to paint the wheels beforehand but didn't have time.

That'll keep the 312 moving along! My kids called and said the electric dryer stopped working so Mr. Maintenance took a drive - I like to teach and they absorb it like a sponge (well one of them does). Dryer all cleaned and checked. The old multimeter has a new home. A 30A breaker actually crapped out on one side. I have never seen this! Yeah, this place is my Facebook. In Wheel Horse news, the trip to the hardware store yielded three cans of Sunrise Red so the 48" deck gets its paint this week.

The second project was a half scale replica of the picnic table for our hotel directors grand children in Edinburgh. I have been asked to make two more..... Was good fun and only took about three hours.

Medical procedures that were unheard of when I was younger are not uncommon these days. Howard told me that he was going on dialysis after the big show. Knowing what a hassle that is, he is lucky that the kidney has become available. Unlucky for the donor and their family though. Mrs. M and I are sending our best wishes to you Howard. Hope you have a speedy recovery. Condolences sent to the other family for their loss. Hopefully they can take solace in the fact the their loved one will live on in a very special man. I just learned that the donor is live. What a wonderful thing to do. Best wishes to both of you.

Howard Dellapuca is a great Wheel Horse owner, collector and friend to all Wheel Horse owners! His contributions to the Big Show are many but most will recognize the mile post marker he stole from MASH! Howard has more enthusiasm than three or four Wheel Horse owners combined. I borrowed Howard’s trailer (pics below) and some gas ( he had three cans of gas) during the recent Big Show . I am pulling hard for Howard as I am very pleased he has secured a kidney ! My thoughts are with him and his family as he undertakes this surgery and recovery.

Howard, I'm kickin' myself in the a$$ here... I heard you were at the show this year, but I only stayed for a couple of hours and didn't take the time to come by and say hello. Next year, I promise! Be strong man, you'll get through this, you know we're all thinking of you! @wheelhorseman Thanks for keeping us posted.

there should be marks on the cam and point lobe to line up so you know you have it right
  27. 4 points
Well we learned a lot today! As my Grandmother would say:" The only people there are that can't learn anything are dead!"
  28. 4 points
points lobe is 180 out of time you have to take the cam out and rotate the point lobe 180 on the front of the cam
  29. 4 points
Found this from Brian miller's site About the 2 piece cam: If you choose to reuse this camshaft to keep the engine "all original," when reinstalling the cam in the engine block, make sure the timing marks on both the cam gear and ignition cam (points lobe) are aligned, or the ignition timing will be 180º off and the engine will not start! Sound exactly what I have!!!!

It’s a pretty neat feeling cruising 3 Seniors and a Lever Steer to breakfast... then set them out for a group pic with Lowell’s Lever too!
  36. 4 points
Spare parts $10 for the pair at auction, now I have a spare differential, lever steer handle, and maybe tie rods too. I get to kind of reverse engineer things to see if more than just transmissions and rear ends were scavenged

Nearing the end of another busy trip, we got hit with COVID and all of my department except myself and the captain had to leave after two days - was chaos, loads of new temporary people had to be called in to keep things running. By the second half of the trip it had settled down so I managed to get back into the workshop and make some things. My favourite stewardess is very noisy, she never stops taking so I made a present for all the crew to try and shut her up 🙂. It was universally liked, although it got me on the naughty step for a few days. It's made out of some picture frames glued together, the leather strap from my UHF radio, a home made monkeys fist and some stainless fittings that were laying about.

Picked up this one last weekend. Didn't think i would own one but the price was right. Anyone have any literature on these? Thinking maybe it needs a sulky for crusin shows.

Other than the truck axles, here’s the rest of my haul together. a 606 with a sweet seat, a pile of WH belts of unknown fitment, a seat, mower deck, and pile of WH mower belts from Uncle Jim’s auction tractor, and a Ride Away Senior plow from Lowell.

You know guys, it has been a long time since I have seen the rudeness, like this, given to a member asking a question on this forum. I see no call for it and it certainly does not help further the thread. Don, I cleaned up the spam in your thread and moved it here. Actually, I can see myself riding around the Big Show on that horse.

A HUGE thanks to Rob @oldiron613 for some carb advice this weekend... he tweaked “Jackie’s” carb and got the little hiccup out of it... then suggested a 1/4 turn more fuel on the Senior. Now, they are both one pull cold/no choke runners!

I moved the engine forward an inch. I did some homework and found an inch shorter oil filter so I retain enough room to be able to change the oil. I can’t go any lower or the front cover will hit the electric fan. I put the grille up an inch and it didn’t look bad but still hit the top of the lines. I couldn’t stand it so I nipped it. Hood sits level with 3/8” spacing below grille and dash stand. The jackshaft should be able to be mounted just above the steering fan gear and use the side panels for mounting it. Haven’t got that far yet. I did decide it will be a military theme build. OD green/black with white lettering.

The interesting part, is my final auction amount. We rounded it up to $80 and we’re pretty happy! We have a new 606 project, a pile of Wheel Horse belts, an aluminum step for the farm truck (not pictured), and some old Ford truck axles. The rear end is a perfect spare if ever we need something for the Senior or Jackie The front wheels are a wide 5 pattern that fit the front axle and he threw in some random brake drums and a hub too.

I'm sitting in my office right now and I'm supposed to be putting the finishing touches on my main message for today but I couldn't resist taking a moment to post in this thread. Yesterday, on my list of to-do's, was getting my snow plow rigged up. My C175 did not come with a rear tach-o-matic and the mounting bar on the back of the blade was removed. (so that some home made angle iron brackets with 3/4" diameter pins could be mounted in the holes where the original bar went on the blade frame.) I made up a bar held in place with 1/4" pins, got a tach-o-matic, and repaired the bottom of the blade where it had been worn down. The bottom of the blade was worn half-way into the carriage bolts. I welded an 1/8"x3" extension to the bottom of the plow and then re-mounted the wear bar upside down. It will do for now. I'm not sure what grade of steel that wear bar should be but all I have on the rack is a36 for ornamental work so I reused the stock bar. I had to fabricate a link between the lift bar and the plow but that was a simple 5 minute job. Plow goes up and down and pushes dirt. At some point I will patch up the spots where the plow sat for years in wet leaves and rusted through. The "green" cart in the background looks out of place behind the WH but it was given to me by a church member so free-to-me negates the faux pas of mismatched colors. At some point I'll set up my LPHV paint gun and shoot the whole tractor. When I do that I will buy enough paint to include the cart in the project. Hope you all have a rich day, Bill
