This is the reason I had to leave the Big Show early. The crabbing was good, the fishing was fair, and the relaxing was excellent.

I loaded up a couple of the horses this morning so I can help a buddy smooth out some gravel he had hauled around his weekend cabin. It’s already laid down relatively flat but it needs to be smoothed out a bit so between the box blade, a drag, and the roller I should be able to flatten it out pretty nicely for him.

Another note from today(friday)..saw this critter utilizing some excellent camo on the side of the building at work! At first i thought he was a chunk of sealant left over from construction. Not sure what made me look twice!

Hi, I'm Marc and am from Luxembourg I have a 520H (Model 73520 / serial 5900115) and a 312-8 (Model 73380 / serial 3900132). I also had a european build B111, bought in Belgium back then, but unfortunately sold it a few years ago I think that I'm going to buy another Wheel Horse to complete my collection just as for some accessories like a plow, a tiller, a snow-plow and some tools to start gardening, but they are hard to find over here in Europe. If anyone knows where to get some tools over here, let me know. Have a nice day to all Marc www.marckieffer.com

Well I finally broke down and bought a new battery for my D-250 and like a kid on Christmas I couldn't wait to play with it....however my daughter beat me to it and went for her first ride on a Wheel horse today. Luckily it is stuck in low range and stays at idle lol. She was all smiles and grins and I couldn't have been happier myself seeing how excited she was. Little does she know the RJ I'm restoring is meant for her!

Or you could just put in a Magneto ignition switch depending on what model tractor you were putting it on..

I hate painting, I don't like the prep work the sanding the runs, bugs etc. I have no show queens they all have duties that get them dirty. I only rattle can paint for corrosion control. One pet peeve is the plugged up nozzle. I had a not so brilliant idea recently. I had a small glass jar put some paint thinner in it and when i finished I put the nozzles in it. Went to paint a bit today got one of the nozzles out went to spray and the little plug in the nozzle blew out. Paint all over. Got out the other nozzle that had been soaking, same thing, nozzle insert blew out. Guess soaking is not a good thing.

Thank you @Achto I read the part that you posted and it would be to much money to do it with that chrome paint. I did find 2 other emblems just like mine for less then it would cost to refinish mine. I took my dremel tool with a very small soft wire wheel and buffed out a lot of stains. Before and after.

I decided to upgrade. We have an 8x24’ with ac but no water, toilet or shower. Big show is fine as Facilites are there however we used the trailer mostly for multiple day dirt bike (Mx) events. For the difference in price to upgrade ours it made much more sense to buy this one. Planning on swapping over wheels ans tires and electric lift. Once die I will be selling the old one.

Got a little more done on the rig today. I finished disassembly on the transmission. I found a wheel bearing that was somewhat beyond repair. Also discovered that when the differential and bull gear bolts came out at least one rode around the bull gear some. The bottom of both case halves is scun up but not worn through. One side is cracked but not broken. This'll be a very lightly used and rarely driven tractor so I'll opt for attempting a J. B. Weld repair if deemed necessary later on. Trina helped clean the largest of the muck off. We got a plastic tote bin container holder and placed the halves along with some of the other parts in it. Add 5 gallons of diesel and cover. Tomorrow or the next day we'll take out the pieces, scrub a tad, and flip em over back into the juice.

Before and after mowing! Grass was a little out of control. Hadn't mowed in 2 weeks due to schedule and wet weather, but no problem for the 418-A.

I've had this old white truck hood ornament for a number of years. I don't even remember where I got it. But I'm cleaning my garage and I see its badly tarnished so I decided to clean it up with polishing past but its pitted bad. I could sand it smoth and paint it red or silver but it will lose it's shine. I'm guessing its quite old but it really looks good on my horse. A horse on a horse of course. I'll make a plate and use the holes that already holds the original ornament on the hood. I don't like to make new holes in my wheelhorse's .any ideas on how to clean up the pits or paint ????

This is great information. It is encouraging to find such helpful people. About ten years ago I was given a 1988 Servistar (Southern States' MTD brand) Riding mower. It had 1st, 5th, and reverse gears and the engine ran like a 3-legged dog. I rebuilt the engine and carb and then tackled the transaxle. (I was told there was no way to rebuild it) Hmph! With a lot of detailed pictures for reference and some determination I opened the transaxle and found that the shift keys were broken. I drove over to RBI Corp. in Ashland, VA and the lady handed me a pair of new keys for $20. I've been cutting my grass and moving trailers around the yard with it ever since. Old is better and being able to keep an old machine going with the aid of a helpful community like this is priceless. Bill

Thank you, Lane! I am grateful to be able to participate although I don’t have superb tractors like yours! It was an exceptionally special Annual Wheel Horse Collectors Club Show this year-especially since we were not able to meet last year!

Well I found my way back to the herd. I have had a bit of tech issues lately. I really wanted to get my new flag up for the 4th, along with my new to me flag pole. So the ole GT is giving me a hand.

I have a 1979 Wheel Horse C-161-8 that my grandpa and I picked up when I was just 8 years old. He got it at an auction for $170 for the tractor, a 42" blade, and a 42" RD deck. I helped him as much as I could to restore it and fix it to make it look nice. We also had the engine professionally overhauled. The cylinder wall was bored and sleeved along with a new piston, rings and a new rod. This tractor runs great now and I will probably keep it for awhile because I have many fond memories with it. It has been a great tractor and I wanna keep it running and going for as long as possible. I just recently repainted all of the sheet metal parts and wheels. They had some dings and scratches so I repainted them just before the show in PA. It has been almost 10 years since it was painted so it was nice to be able to paint it again and keep it looking good.

Sometimes I use 2 or more cans before I'm finished. I just pull the top of the spent can and use it on the second one. One spare to add to stock.

Been watching him all winter. When you're this close you can tell them apart. Never really named him but they do come when I call. A lot of times when I beat on the bucket he comes running. They know the sound of the dinner bell... Turkeys are coming in more regularly too..

I usually hold the can upside down and spray until the nozzle is clear. This usually works for me as long as I use the paint in the near future.

Spent a few hours this morning working on the 500 Special. Pull cord broke while I was trying to get it running so I replaced that. Got it to run on starting fluid but that was it. Took the carb off and a friend has it soaking. It was horrible. So the last couple of hours I spent washing it. Years of crud I got off, came out looking pretty good considering. Still haven't tried moving the shifter. Except for the engine it's all there. Has a 6hp tecumseh in it. I believe they came with that engine??? Correct?? Anyone with knowledge can school me. Here is the ID tag.

Many moons ago, my Dad converted a self-propelled 2 horsepower cylinder (we call it a reel) mower into a go-kart for me to bomb around. He took off the handle, torched out the blades, bolted a frame on the front with steering and a seat and linkages for the throttle and clutch. We ran that thing until the wheels finally fell off!

@johnnymag3, have to go with the magnum 12 , power to easily run what I have , 42" r/d deck , 42" plow , single stage blower . also the electronic ignition , is icing on the cake . all three of my horses are set up the same way , with proven improvements , and regular maintenance. if you detail in the engine grounding , and regularly , add STABIL to all your fuel . my running has been very solid, instant starts , no issues. add rislone zinc to all my oils , easier running is very obvious , as I work on problems , I detail them in , so it becomes a non issue . what ever I pass on , for advise , I have been using , so I know its works , pete

You may be in two gears at once. Remove the shifter and using a long screw driver slide the shift rails left or right to get them both centered in the hole. That is neutral. Make sure the ball is still on the end of the shifter. Garry
