17 pointsThree RJ hoods that were restored by Harold Carter in Florida made it to my place today thanks to Rodney Burger. Two of these were almost beyond saving! I have some before shots of one with lots of holes and bumps. Another had to be paired with two bad hoods, cut and welded as the front logo piece was all but gone and the top on one was cut at the top frame brace. ! Two more RJ projects awaiting awaiting attention! So now hoods are preserved and secured.

14 pointsWell @Vinylguyknocked it out of the park again ! I asked him if he could make me a custom set of decals for my 1075. I wanted the same colors as the original side decals but I wanted them to go along the sides of the hood and not under the hood on the dash tower. Like what he did for me on my 857. I wanted to just clean up the tractor and not repaint it. keeping it a little ratty looking but with nice fresh paint on the wheels with nice chrome baby moons and shiny new decals. Also I wanted a rally stripe down the hood and Terry came up with one of those as well. I still have to put on the dash and center console decals but here it what it looks like so far. Another " Special Edition" Big Block, Short Frame, Tall Stack, Baby Moons, Rally Stripped, Wheel Horse ! Thank You @Vinylguy !!!

11 pointsthis is a fun thread! I have a couple of tractors out here at the ranch that fit the bill. The first one is my 1054A named “Rusty”. One of the best compliments he has received was when my buddy and his family came over last year. We decided to get out about 6 or 7 tractors and play “tag” in the back yard. I chose Rusty and my buddy says, “I didn’t think that tractor even ran!” I’m taking the @Shynon route on this one for the time being. My plan is to get the engine running like a Swiss watch, paint the rims, and install my new seat cushions and run it. I even had @Vinylguy make me up some faded and deteriorated stickers for him. Exhibit B is my youngest sons tractor—he named it “Blackbeard”. It is of course, the mighty GT-14. Zach wants to paint it and so sometime this summer it will likely get a facelift but for now, it is a little rough. Zach loves to use it for a variety of jobs. And it is up to the task! Ironically we purchased it from the son of the original owner. It only sat outside the last two years before we got it. I could only imagine what it would’ve looked like had we got it before that. Our buddy fabbed up this 3pt box and Zach loves using it as well. They got some surface rust and lots of stories to tell but it doesn’t hurt their ability to work🙌🏻😎

Don‘t ask an idiot - did you take a picture before ? nope i don‘t - forgot about it, but hey - it works for me. so after Mowing, i used my new „Hydraulic hands“ to quick remove the Mowerdeck. Because of the Heat 38*C today i must little slow down. In the Shed i measured 42*C no temps for doing heavy Work. So i decided to give the Hydraulic Backhoe it‘s first Live test with the Powersteering Pump. Pretty cool not to ride over the Deck, just use the impact wrench to loosen it, pull few levers and the Deck is out. Back saving at it‘s best. after that i decided to try my „new built“ Toy. While between taters the grass keeps growing i wanna clean it up and losening a little the Loamy Soil. Maybe so i thought it will be able a little to pile the Potatoes, but for that Task i have a Plow for the Iseki. Maybe i rework it also to be usable with my Wheelhorse. . Here is a Picture of the Result after 3 turns, i just have to add about 50lbs as addon weight. Just the outer 2 Plants be zucchini, thats the reason i exclude them from the Process. Because i don’t need all the Potatoes at once, i set them in different timelines, so that they grow in different. It appears it worked like i planed. So a in between the rows is urgently needed.

7 pointsThe “WHRat WHrecker” is the only rig yesterday that didn’t get a pre-show bath. Unfortunately, all the show tractors got a couple inches of rain on them this morning! My girls’ two, “Barney Fife” and “Screamin’ Jimmy” are unrestored and quite modified... but they at least got a bath.

6 pointsGot the dust off the 1257Heavy and finished up the hood. And mocked up my snorkel with the " I don't think it's the right size filter " but it came in bigger then I thought so might just work. And has a nice chrome heat shield that works as a nice rain gaurd. Other filter I'd have to build one. Also installed my new "TrailBomber" hood ornament from @Wheel Horse 3D!

6 points100% agreed. Old Kohlers can sit in a barn for 30 years and crank on the first try with gas that smells like varnish in the tank. Good luck with an Onan that has fresh gas and a new rebuild. Completely different machines!

6 pointsA few years back I brought my "Barn Find 953" to the Big Show and got lots of thumbs up. There is no need to presume that a needs to be freshly painted, we love them all.

5 pointsMrs W has been away all week on a world tour, of North Yorkshire. So I've been in charge of the business. Managed to keep the wheels on the cart and im down to just one guest now. Hes a Yorkshire terrier and a huge handful. The breed is renowned in England for its size, aggression and tenacity. Often use to fight shire horses to the death and fed on live sharks the Yorkshire terrier needs careful handling.

5 pointsThe field opposite has not been used for a couple of years. There is a drainage ditch running through it and two years ago the banks were cleared of tree's and bushes. Those were just pushed to one side and left. I got a few loads of firewood out of it last year. Last night a contractor I know, was cutting back the undergrowth round the edges, ready for fencers to come. The farmer who is going to rent it is going to reseed it and graze sheep in it. This uncovered some more timber I could not get at. This morning before it got too hot, I went in with chainsaw, Sears and trailer. Half an hour and I had a full load. Maybe some more later as the fencers clear more undergrowth.

4 pointsSo as I posted before the little woman has taken a liking for the tractors starting to display them all over and embellishing them with flowers pots. The other day she comes from the supermarket and hands me a cool looking gadget which is a barbecue cooking timer. She tells me that she saw it and realized it is almost the same color as tractors and that it would look cool like a gage on the big guy( the 520). Naturally I couldn’t say no so there it is in all of its glory. I now can keep time on the mowing up to one hour. I wonder what will be the next surprise.

4 pointsHere’s some in the stable that won’t make the show roster this year... The C-101 didn’t get named... it’ll likely be used for parts for the 953/1054 plow rigs though it really only needs a gas tank and a battery.

4 pointsI can't say a word. When I was 19, I changed the water pump on my car. Of course it took longer than expected, and was almost dark when completed. When I cranked the car, shortly afterward there was a loud bang followed by oil all over the windshield. I pinched one of the power steering lines in my rush to make the most of the last daylight. The fluid had to go somewhere. ...If we truly learned from our mistakes I would be a genius.

4 pointsTrip to the dermitoligist today. The biopsy from my last visit recommended that the doc do a little more carving on two former moles. No big deal, just preventative action. Also got the new sewage pump installed and tested. All seems good there. The old pump was disconnected from the outlet pipe and did not have any feet to keep it off of the bottom of the holding tank. That would explain its poor performance. Tomorrow's job will be to re set the toilet. Got one of those non wax seals to try. Yup, retirement is really exciting and entertaining.

4 pointsGot the camp setup pretty well worked out. Sleeping quarters, shower/changing room, hammock zone, and a nice dry/shaded area for hanging out, cooking, etc. Finally done about dark. Too bad the water pump isnt portable!

3 pointsJust got home from a very busy trip away - got a ton of work done on the ship, but only managed about four hours sleep a day in two short bursts! After complaining that I had no woodwork shop onboard, but was expected to do a lot of repairs, the company finally let me have one in an otherwise badly used space. Unfortunately they got a shore company to build it, and it was awful! It was 1m high, too narrow, had a vice mounted in a corner that was effectively unusable and featured the worst storage drawers i have ever used. The top also had metal raised edges- not very handy for wood tools. I started the trip with cutting equipment in hand and removed the brand new incorrect top, and at the same time reducing the height so I could put a more user friendly top on. Then cut out some of the awful drawers and moved them to one side in a slightly more useful stack. Lots more to do as I want cupboards to hide the mess of tools rather than an open front. See attached pictures of the project from it's humble origins as a locker space. More to follow as I also built a second workshop this last trip....

3 pointsForgot to mention... that was 6,500 rpm I hit... Just in case anyone was wondering... I dunno how much in total this engine cost me to build... but it was a pretty sum... over 400$ for the crate motor, plus all the performance goodies... so probably around a grand, if I had to take a guess. Now I got like 4$ in the Wheel Horse fund... LOL Don

3 pointsIf you supply 12 volts to the solenoid you should hear and feel it activate. Since you suspect wiring problems try feeding it a good 12 volt source to see if it eliminates the problem. Garry

3 pointsWe also have a lot of followers, and not many leaders which doesnt help - I come from a background of running my own businesses so don't mind ruffling feathers and questioning authority and accepted practices. You find that the negative ones eventually get onboard, you just need the conviction/strength of character to push ahead when you know your right The lack of hands on experience is getting worse in our industry, they favour academics and as a result my superiors tend to skip the manual work aspect of the job and therefore have no concept of what we actually do. I'm a fan of turning my hand to everything and like to understand a job thoroughly before expecting others to do it.

3 pointsI picked up this tractor for parts, then decided it was too nice to part out so I got it running and cleaned it up. I guess this guy ran machines til he decided they were done then parked them. He had an older Simplicity in the back yard covered by a jon boat that I was going to get but the axle was broken (I did get the snow plow and sickle mower that fit my Allis Chalmers). This tractor was parked under a car port covered in leaves and pine cones and there was a newer Sears that looked like it was probably still in use.

Told him to quit trying to sword swallow monkey wrenches but nnnnoooo! Add insult to injury he had big plans to do some camping with the missus and get to the BS. 3 pointsIn my younger years a friend had a '67 Chevelle SS396. He wanted it to go faster. So he proceeded to pull the engine, tear it down, block went to machine shop for a rebore, align bore the cam bearings, valve job, cc the heads, etc. He spent a LOT of money! He gets it back and asks me to help re-assemble. Everything went smoothly and when we put the fahr to it, it started right up and ran great... and then we saw the trail of engine oil running down the driveway. It's NEVER good on a brandy new 500 HP big block to dump all the engine oil. I pretty much knew it wasn't going to last long at that point in time... As it turns out, Ron had installed all of the welch plugs in the block... except ONE. At the rear of the block, the rear plug at the camshaft. So we pulled the engine, installed the plug, put the engine back in, and this time all was good. It ran REALLY strong for about a year after that. But the cam wiped two of the lobes eventually. I lost touch with Ron and can't recall what he did with the car, I guess he sold it. One more story about that car... he ran out of money during the build and couldn't afford new MOTOR MOUNTS! Some of you may recall that the Chevelles of that time had a ROD linkage on the throttle. If a motor mount separated, the engine would lift and pull the throttle WIDE OPEN! Not a good thing on ANY car, let alone a 500 HP street rod. It happened one night on the 'strip' in Asbury Park while I was driving! Unintended acceleration of a car like that is SCARY! I had the presence of mind to turn the key off and didn't have an 'incident', but it was fun while it lasted! We drove back home VERY carefully! Chevy had a TSB that instructed to install a steel cable through the motor mounts to prevent this issue and later redesigned their motor mounts with a 'hook' that wouldn't allow the engine to lift more than an inch or so. So, that's just ONE of my 'bonehead' stories! There are many more... if I could remember them I would post them. Gimmee some time and they might come back to me.

3 pointsHad these cool looking digital pressure and transmission gauges but they were garbage as expected from a Chinese product. Replaced them with conventional analog ones also USA made. In addition little woman comes home one day and hands me a “ gauge “ for the tractor . It’s an outside cooking timer. Now I can keep track of how long it takes to mow the lawn.

2 pointsAfter scouting around and being shocked at the offerings and prices, decided to re-web two very solid ones we already had. Took about an hour each using about 50' of 2 ¼" webbing each ($16 for 150') and the furnishings department was extremely pleased with the outcome. So pleased, in fact, that two other chairs may get done just to have them all match again. Sigh.
