11 pointsHello guys, After a few Corona virus scares, and some family health issues, Im back to the wheelhorse addiction. Im down to two of them. I have missed all the good razzing and great members. So I will be a regular again. Thanks Daron

11 pointsDid some mowing, dirt hauling and other maintenance jobs at my mother’s place this week. Used a couple tractors for the various jobs. A 312-8 and a 314-8 !
-
10 pointsHello all, It seems there are very few Wheel Horse tractors running in France. Here I am with a 1986 Wheel Horse 312-8 bought used in non-running condition. The tractor is now back on track, well, only when the fuel pump agrees to work...

5 pointsI hook up the back first, then use my hydraulic lift with a small 2x4 to even the load, to position the implement where it needs to be to put the pin in… then I use long angled needle nose pliers to put in the clip. No lifting… no struggles to keep it where it needs to be… I also use a much longer pin to allow easier reach…

5 pointsHave been on this soul search for the past month looking for these spindle hubs. Never so glad to find them! I think I had a dream about them last night and knew right where they were!
-
5 pointsThere's certainly worse things those guys could be doing and I don't see the big deal. Very little impact compared to the massive bulldozing of the forests and putting up parking lots everywhere. Where's the outrage there? I assume the cruise night at the big show is burning fossil fuel for no good reason too but it's fun.
-
5 pointsI still just can't get over how good that tractor turned out- and it was done by students?!?!?! Amazing job sir! I think they have something to be proud of!

4 pointsToday was set up day for the Friday thru Sunday show. Beautiful weather today and a fair forecast for tomorrow. But Sat. and Sun. look like total wash outs. I loaded a couple horses. It looked like a pretty good turn out for this first time event. This park is about half way between home and one of my favorite trout streams. I always have fishing gear in my truck, so I swung by my spot for an hour of great fishing.
-
4 pointsSunny skies until 3PM, then the rain started. Rain forecast for Tomorrow and Sunday. I few more pics. Ackerman Talked with the Ventrac dealer Jim Hutchins Seems the Steiner Brothers were involved early and Ventrac is now owned by TORO ? Quite the Versi tal machine. Oh yeah, I did stop by the trout stream again.

4 pointsA few years ago at a garage sale I bought some stainless steel hemostats, not sure what the fellow used them for, he sure did look like he was in the medical field. there were about 7 of them, different sizes and lengths, two were curved at the end one was small and about 6" and the other is large and about 11" in length. I have used them when my fat hand can't get to the where I need to hold a bolt, a nut, washer, hose, hairpin, cotter pin or other small items, unlike needle nose they lock, now as far as my sight that's another story. Their also great for holding or hooking small springs up, think Hydro return spring (1533) under the dash plate.

4 pointsCant post something like this up without expecting a little backlash, right? Again, its not for everyone. What exactly constitutes 'tearing up the environment and burning fossil fuels for no good reason'? Pretty much every stinkin thing humans touch, if you think of it....and yes it's sad.

3 pointsI am new to the Wheel Horse community. I recently purchased a 523dxi. I love the tractor. I am wondering if attachments from any different models will fit. I am looking for a snow thrower. Thanks in advance. Doug

3 pointsAnyone looking to build a rat rod? I do not have the whole tractor. I have the hood, rear fender pan, front axle with drop spindles, 12” stretched frame made with all new steel (not a stretched wheelhorse frame). It was a project I never finished. Not perfect by no means but would make a cool ride. $150 obo. I’ll get better pics. SOLD 👍

3 pointsSo this thread is like 9 years old and I’ve never posted in it . Was recenty turned on to Greta Van Fleet by a buddy at work...damn...great stuff! Loaded em onto my Pandora list and have been hooked ever since!

3 pointsSo my Dads passing left me with with another item of his to sell for his estate. I really have no idea what it's worth. What I believe to be a MF30 industrial tractor. Around '84 vintage and his brother bought it new for his construction business. Three lung Perkins diesel that runs good but does have some hours on it, around 3k if I recollect right?? Known issues are power steering rams leak and loader arm rams pee a bit. A few of the gauges no worky and lighting no go.

3 pointsDon't bet on it. Some years ago when I had my digger, I was towing it on the trailer home, when some rectum coming the opposite way kept on coming. The grass verge is about 2ft then a ditch both sides of the lane. No way I could possibly pull over. I stopped and he stopped. We looked at each other and he then signalled me to reverse. I got out and politely asked, honestly, if he was joking. He said you reverse. I got back in the Land Rover, rolled a smoke, put my feet up on the dash. Took him 5 minutes of his wife giving him earache before he reversed to the nearest gateway.

3 pointsAs an old guy myself I feel your pain Bob..... We need a helper guy to get involved on implement changes kinda like the rich people have cabana boys to serve them drinks with little umbrellas and help dry off after a splash in the ocean........

3 pointsWOW. Got here today. May 11 through May 28. Traveled across country a couple of times too.. Poor book was exhausted when i picked it up from mail box. I wish it could tell me the adventures it went through.

3 pointsBefore shelling out the money for a new module, try unscrewing your gas cap. A clogged vent can stop an engine, and then it will restart later.

3 pointsWell I found the weakness to the Lawnboy Gold Series 2 cycle mowers of the 90's...it's the plastic starter rope guide... The starter rope has eaten it's way through the plastic. Ordered a metal replacement one and it worked out great. Part number is Lawnboy/Toro 86-9671 if anyone else needs it. original plastic compared to metal replacement. You can use the same nylon nut from original with the new metal one. Now she's ready to role!

3 pointsIt's much easier to attach with the older models like a C-120 than any of the 300-500 series. That's one reason I don't own one and probably never will again. Black hoods are the same way. Easiest way to install that pin that I found is using an extra long pair of needle nose pliers. Either jack up the front end and install from underneath or remove the shift plate and go from the top.

3 pointsThanks Jim. Hopefully next school year we will be back to normal. A couple of the students asked me about restoring another wheel horse next year and giving it away for charity. I like that idea and I like that they want to use their skills to help out others. Im going to try to find a good tractor to buy at the Big Show for the charity project.

3 pointsThey got the lights working and added led rear lights. They were excited to seem them work when they flipped the switches. They have completed so many tasks and learned many new skills by working on this project. It was a perfect little project for them to work on this year. All of the COVID restrictions and virtual learning has taken a toll on them. It really lifted their spirits seeing the results.
-
3 pointsThis is Diego. He did a lot of work on the tractor. This was his first time ever driving a tractor. He was smiling ear to ear but you can see because of our COVID restrictions. He was amazed that we stripped it down to the frame and then had a beautiful running tractor in a few months. Especially with limited shop time this year.

2 pointsHey folks! Decided to put the real love into this Lawnboy 10520 Gold Series mower. I picked it up at a garage sale a while back and am liking it more and more as I use it. When I got it it wouldn't start and the starter rope was frayed really bad and was short as it only pulled out about 3 feet or so. So I initially cleaned the carb and gas tank, it hadn't been ran in years of course. Also replaced the start rope and it came right to life. It's been fun and a pleasure to use. I see why folks are so high on them. So the "other" things I read on servicing are the exhaust ports and the gear box. The 3 speed transmissions on these are really robust and reliable so let's keep it that way for another 30 years! This one still shifted well through all gears. This was just maintenance. First is getting to the muffler which is under the deck above the blades: Take off the blade assembly and you will see this: remove those 3 screws and the muffler will come off and you will be here Now what you are looking for is checking the exhaust ports, you should see 3 round openings. If they are being blocked by carbon buildup that is what you are cleaning. If you do need to clean them make sure the cylinder is down next to the ports so carbon can't fall into the cylinder. Mine were clear but if they weren't I was going to use a small plastic scraper and have the shop vac running next to it to quickly suck up the carbon as it is broke loose. I cleaned some of the carbon off the bottom base. then just put it back together Next is the gear box for the transmission. It's the cover plate you see on the rear axle that you will remove. I did run the mower out of gas before doing this. You either want to lay it upside down or on it's side. If you do it on the side note the gears can drop out if you are not careful, so don't pull on them when you are cleaning if you don't want to remove them. I did this on it's side. grease was just starting to hardened up a little but was still soft enough it was working and I didn't see any damage to any gear teeth or anything. Cleaned out the old grease as best I could while being careful. packed in new grease then put the cover back on and you're done! Not a complicated job at all but probably the two things that don't get done enough on these mowers. I found where it is recommended to check the exhaust annually. The gear box I couldn't find a change interval. But this is almost 30 years old and it looked like a good time to do it. So once or twice a lifetime maybe isn't bad at all. Now it's ready to be a main worker in the fleet! thanks for looking!

2 pointsTry pressing the clutch pedal right down when trying to start. My C-81 has a safety switch on that. Also the P.T.O. lever has one. Make sure the P.T.O. is not engaged.
-
2 pointsI guess what you have for a charging system could be anything. Maybe you can understand the manual better than I can.https://www.kohler-engine-parts.opeengines.com/index.php?main_page=document_general_info&products_id=34596

2 pointsReddzs mower is truly a beast and well built. Some of these guys have been at this awhile and Im pretty sure are on their own land. I like off roading myself and don't see a problem with it.
-
2 pointsHave to agree that led is the way to go on a tractor that will be working. Brighter, whiter light. Most last longer. Less energy use as mentioned. And they run cooler which is great for the close quarters that a lot of garden tractors have.
-
2 pointsSTOP running it! You blew the motor. Probably the oil splasher or balnacer broke. Maybe cams? Did you check the oil?
