For some time, I have always become quite .. annoyed, by the use of the term 'gas motor' or 'electric engine'. An engine being 'a machine which converts linear force into motion'. A motor being defined as 'a rotating machine that transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy'. However, in the case of this Empire B-33, it's better related to a solenoid engine.. but .. it's not a solenoid. So, what we have here is a 1929 Empire B-33 'electro-magnetic engine'. The model ran from 1929-1931. So far as I can find. It was mainly intended to sit and run in the store front window, driving the toy accessories of the day. It wouldn't require the attention of the steam engines. There is a 110v AC to 28v step down transformer in the 'boiler'. A set of breaker points just behind the dummy valve gear trigger 4 electromagnets inside the 'bedplate'. A rocker in there is then connected to the main rod and a hinge, simply being pulled back and forth. So.. an 'electric engine' indeed? No 'electrical' part on this machine rotates. Simply an iron plate on a hinge. To the crankpin and a set of breaker points. It flies on main current. Tamed it down with a Variac. Hoping it'll run alright with a few of my accessories at show time. I usually run a pair of Empire steam engines at the tractor show. But seen way too many people crossing over the rope fences and don't want to know what will happen when inevitably someone gets burnt.. I suppose I'm looking way too deep into this. Was able to get it going with little trouble. It's something else to see and also to smell.. the burning ozone reminds me fondly of a classic Lionel train set.

I got the black painted this morning. I am not real happy with it, but it is what it is. I've always said, I don't really restore these things, I just sort-a preserve them a little longer for the next guy, who may have the talent, and equipment to do it right. Still have not heard back from the machine shop on the motor, but if this thing never moves again, at least I'll be able to see where I'm not going.

Sitting in the backyard flower garden scoping out the Cicada’s and listening to their humming ! Not a very nice looking insect but they are thick here in Indiana after four or five days of hot weather. They have emerged from their sleep! The last picture is of a French Cicada wall pocket for displaying flowers. The French have been making this design for years. It’s very quiet every year!

Good day for the horses, in between running hvac calls, (I was on call this weekend) I spread some fresh millings around the horse stable. Even had time to take the kids for a spin! Great weekend!!

I put the rear hubs on today. Finished painting the rear wheels and went for the maiden voyage. Only thing left is the bodywork and paint on the hood.

Got "George" running this weekend. He had been jumping the solenoid with a screwdriver since he got it so I replaced that. I need to get a battery some time, but otherwise ready to go! I got a new air filter thinking the old one may need to be replaced, and changed the oil. I thought the paint was in terrible shape, but he painted it with rattle can paint and I can see the original paint in places where it has peeled. I'm hoping I can use a pressure washer to get that off and maybe clean up the original paint. I think this tractor was taken care of until he got it a couple years ago-it looked really nice the first time I saw it. Now if I can only figure out what he did with the two rear wheel covers!

Trina, her Mom and I spent a great 4 days getting stuff done around the acreage. Cutting splitting and moving wood. Building things. Yard work. Etc... Today I used the Cinnamon Horse C160 to move the wood splitter from one work place to another in the forest.

A lot of folks here are great gardeners with their veggie and flower gardens. @Lane Ranger is one that comes to mind. I used to have a kick butt veggie garden but never did so well with flowers. I never tire of Mother Natures gardening skills. I took a ride out back this morning with the intention of snapping a few pictures. I didn't have my glasses and the sun was washing out the screen so I just snapped 8-10 pictures in the direction of the wild flowers. I figured that some would turn out good. I went back inside and checked them out. Not a single picture of the flowers. But I did have 8-10 pictures..............of my face. In order to avoid nauseating everyone I just deleted them and went out back again with my glasses to try again. This time I was successful. I don't recall seeing this amount of wild lupine out there last year. Butterflies are attracted to them and we definitely have plenty of those. Let's see some more of Mother Natures, or your work, where you live.

Spent the morning with @squonk today and we did a little " Horse Trading" He came by my house and fixed a leaky carburetor and installed a new muffler on my 1075. In return for his labor I got him some NOS 6x12 tires. @Squonk is a great guy, was really nice of him to help me out. I am really pleased with the results. Thanks again Mike. The 1075 now has a new look. Big Block, Short Frame, Tall Stack !! After you left Mike I remembered I had some high heat muffler paint left over from my 416-8 project so I went and painted the muffler.

Some grease went up in flames on my grill few days ago when cooking stuff off and my temp gauge didn't like that so had to get a new 1 and this one GLOWS IN THE DARK! Midnight brisket anyone? Also tossed together a potatoe box to give that a shot, and bought some flowers for the front and back yard.

@WHX24 @Achto OK you got them. You can have 1 tire apiece!

Well, my fridge recently died (which I think I posted that hokey pokey 'fix' I did to get it running in the emergency). The capacitor wasn't the issue though at first of course that was my prime suspect. Turns out that compressor is a 'capacitor-less' start model. It has a separate START and RUN terminal on the side of it. The issue was that the 'start relay' burned up. And the original is NLA. I did manage to find a VERY similar relay that 'physically fit' and the correct current spec, but had provision for wiring a capacitor. The solution was simple, wire a direct connection across those two terminals on the relay. Therefore, that's what I did. Thusly, the fridge is working fine business once again and ready for another 30 years of service. Maybe, I'm pretty sure, it will certainly outlast me! Soooo, if you ever need a start relay for a capacitor-less compressor and can't find the correct one, you know what to do. How'd I do? Speaking of the 'hokey pokey'... I heard that the guy that wrote the song recently passed away. They had a little trouble getting him into his casket though. They tried putting the left foot in... it came back out. The put the right foot in... it came back out ....

We don't have any here in Maryland where I live. They are about 15 miles from here though. I was hoping for a large batch that I could deep fry and coat with chocolate. Thought I'd bring some to the big show rather than Mrs. M's cookie bars.

The 125 is coming along, slowly, very slowly. The big hole in the middle I think is where the engine goes, but it's been so long, I can't quite remember. I don't have the black painted on the hood yet, I will attempt that tomorrow. I haven't heard anything from the machine shop, so I can't even order a rebuild kit yet. These are not the forever wheels, they are Massey wheels. I'm not sure if that is the forever seat yet or not. Haven't decided. This Regal Red seems quite a bit darker than the Chinese Red lacquer I have been using. There are a few pieces on the tin work that could have used some attention, but from past experience, I know I usually don't make them much better, I just make them different, so I left them alone. The fender pan is not original to the 125, but the original plastic one was pretty broke up.

Somtime they're stuck bad...but this has NEVER failed me. 3/8 Steel Bench-top. I cut a 1" wide slot 5" deep & slide pulley shaft onto. (1) Thread nut onto shaft to within 1/8" of pulley. (2) Put big ball peen hammer on nut (3) Using a BFH....WHACK the ballpeen like you got a pair...breaking loose the rust. Release the Nut 2 turns and repeat the WHACK..driving the shat down thru pulleys.

My son decided to take on his own project. He said he wants to get it running all by himself. I’m amazed at what he has done so far by himself. He might have learned a thing or two. He was out there talking to himself saying...WheelHorse makes it Kohler shakes it! 😂

I work around a bunch of usually pretty rough fellas. they know about my proclivity to gather "plan B" knowledge, and that I'm a pretty self reliant person in the woods, and one of them thought it would be pretty funny to bring me a cicada snack! When I munched it down, they all turned kinda green Guess I had the fun instead!

Yes sir. The inside end is not caged in yet but it will be so this can be a chicken tractor as well as an extension. Trina did a ton of research before we bought the birds. They've been great so far. This past winter we didn't even heat the coop. They've been very hardy.

@daveoman1966 , @tunahead72 , dave agree with you on the very solid bench set up , solid strength against strength , with a very solid stop will do it every time, also agree with tunahead on the shaft cleaning / sanding and anti seize detail. when I take anything apart I usually lay it out as it was built so those spacer bushings are correct. as usual I lubrication detail the hell out of this unit . my added area is to hi temp grease those new bearings , while you are right there . don't mean to terrorize anyone by this , gently use a pocket screwdriver , pop off easily accessible wide rubber side seals , wipe out grease , repack with lucas green heavy duty polyurea grease , 550 drop point , no failures no whining noise , all my decks and drives , work with ridiculous quiet ease. keep it greasy , pete

One thing that I’ve often wondered is, why are the likes of “Google”, etc called, Search ‘Engines’? And if you attach an engine to something it’s becomes, ‘Motorised’? 🤔

Finally some updates. Barely spent any time on the shed the last few months with all the other work going on about the place. We managed to finally get two days off, so threw the roof on. It was a bit nerve wracking getting the valleys cut correctly as I had no spare tin! It's starting to blend into the countryside nicely now. Will order up some windows next, make the doors, then paint it - just pick away over the summer.

Friend of mine got a 2" PIC pipe and cut a slit in it length wise. He snapped it over the existing wear bar on his Speeded plough. He did it to keep from scooping up gravel.Seems like it would work on concrete too.

First thing would be to give that carb a proper soak/clean, needle and seat, and new gaskets. Then recheck operation. Odds are it doesn't need replacement. Likely the Ethanol caught up with it.

The idler pulleys (part no. 111170) on the 05-37SC01 deck are both vee pulleys. ALSO, this deck uses belt no. 111178, which is a 6 sided belt, which means BOTH pulleys on the mule drive are vee pulleys as well. The confusion arises because I believe there is a 37" deck (possibly 05-37SC02) that uses a conventional belt (3 sided) and consequently the pulley configuration changes for the idler and mule on that deck. I have the 05-37SC01 deck and the idlers and the mule drive pulleys are vees.

I'm not sure exactly how this thread made it back into rotation 2 years later, but I'll respond for those that need closure. I did have my electrician friend come out and look at the kiln, the receptacle, the breaker box and everything in between. He knew the original owner of the home and was not surprised by the situation. Although, he was slightly amazed that the house hadn't burned down just from the use of the stove that previously occupied that outlet. I bought exactly what he told me to buy and it was installed exactly as directed.

A little backyard fun today. I've been working on getting the old wood box cut down and burnt up. It's several years old, starting to deteriorate, and harbors rodents and wasps. There was/is a pile of larger chunks hunks and pieces of different types of wood and wood ish things out there too. Lots of food for the fire pit. The big wood crate in the second pic is a frame for an extension of the chicken run and movable chicken tractor. Trina and her Mom are putting the frame together out of entirely repurposed yard materials. Sides of course are pallets. Fasteners are the only purchased parts for the project.

Rylee and I completed our 6k this morning. Most children in third world countries travel on average 6 kilometers just for dirty water. Many don’t survive past 5 years old, due to parasites and disease in the water source. For each person who crossed a World Vision finish line today, one less child needs to search for that dirty water. My legs, my knees, my feet... the pain will be short lived. The little kids on our backs, I’m sure they appreciate the effort!
