After i greased the Frontaxle, i pulled the 656 for a Mowing Ride. It was nearly finished, when 2 young Families with 4 Younger Kids stop by at my Areal and the Kids look curious to the Horse. I see the typically glow in Kiddo‘s eyes and i knew what they liked to ask but they hesitate. I take a stop next to them and the youngest asked very friendly, Hello Sir, can i have a Ride on this beautiful Red Tracta? i answered yes, you can if you learned a small Text and your parents allow. They do surely agree, and the Kids have a lot of Fun on the Horse. This was the first, who asked, so he was the first who was allowed to take a Ride.. after he learned the little Text. After that, the others also will ask a ride. So, ok for me, give them a good Day - but first they must quick learn the right Name of the Red Tracta. it‘s not a John It‘s not a Deere it is a Wheel Horse of course. Each Kid who can say that, was allowed to tale a Ride 😎 they all learned in fract of a second this Text - mission accomplished ! 😂😂

Not sure where or why this started and maybe it's even in the manual or something but I see lots of people say this all the time. But, that's exactly what I use all the time and never had a single problem doing it. It doesn't leave any grit anywhere which I think is what they believe the issue is with using sandpaper. Think whoever originated this was using wood sandpaper at 100 grit or something and had a problem. A sliver of 1200 grit wet/dry paper about 2 inches long or so works good and fast. Slip it between the contacts and let them close as the spring provides the pressure for sanding. It won't work if the points are in the opened position. Pull the paper to slide it out and repeat a couple/ few times, then flip the paper over for the other contact surface and repeat. Try this on one you plan to change the points on before changing the points. Nothing to loose! One of those thin metal nail files works good too used in the same manner but pay more attention to keeping it perpendicular to the contacts or it will just file the edges. Since the file is stiff you can slide it back and forth and clean both sides at once. Maybe I'm missing something with the problem doing this but ignorance is bliss!

Finished up placing new knife blades on a 42 inch Wheel Horse Sickle Bar Mower knife section. 21 two inch blades and 42 rivets. this was a real rusty sickle so I had to sand off rust and drill each rivet hole after removing the rivets with my Johnson Sickle Servicer. The 7/32 drill bit removes any leftover rivet or debris for easy install of the new blades and rivets.

After some veri-drive maintenance last night, I took a real cruise on “Thirty Five” today. Someone really needs to mow this field! I’m kind of fighting with myself, what to do with the muffler. I wonder why the P.O. Added a 90 and pointed it up...

Finally got the etank set up to take the rust off the rear wheels. Hoping for a nice surprise tomorrow!

Alright!!!! Its done!! 8 bolts for fenders (4 for seat bracket and 4 under seat in middle of fender pan). 4 bolts for tank (two hold downs at front and 2 that bolt in from the bottom above the axles). Of course when I pulled the petcock the grommet tore. The screen was essentially gone, except for what was left in the bore that was doing nothing more than causing more restriction. For around $10 my local hardware store had an exact replacement valve and grommet. Tank was NASTY, but now its sparkly inside. All buttoned up and running like a champ again! Thank you so much for the help. I know it is a simple task but its nice to have others confirm it vs. there being one hidden fastener and ending up cracking the tank or something equally catastrophic! Oh yeah forgot to mention. I just used a little axle grease for the grommet and valve = EASY. Fit like socks on a rooster!

Well I am STILL painting wheels. I took the rear wheels off the 875 to paint. Even though I still have not got an engine for it I want it to look good. I put on the spare set of AG tires and wheels I had and well...... I am starting to like how they look. Might just leave them on. I also ordered new throttle and choke cables for the 1075. Looking into getting a new carb for it as well. Seems to be only 2 choices. 15 dollar cheapy or 100 dollar one. Anyone have any thoughts on carbs for the 1075 ? The one on it now I believe to be a replacement. It also leaks from the bowl.

That series 2 Kohler has the ability to switch it so the air cleaner can suck hot air off the engine for winter use. Or turn it 180 degrees to suck fresh air in the summer.

Got the roof on the new wood shed just in time. A tree blew over into the field where the neighbor was ready to plant cantalopes. I got some help from son and grandson and removed it today.

Could be. Never looked that close for sure! And that does make sense. That's how to tell if it's any good or not! Give it a sniff or two, swish around in the container, sniff again and sip a little. Kinda the same procedure as wine tasting! LoL If ya burp afterwards it has ethanol in it. Then I use that same 1200 grit sandpaper to sand the crappy gas taste off my tongue! Then suck on a dollar bill for 30-40 seconds to polish that microscopic 1200 grit off. It's quite the procedure before starting every engine! Some people only check the oil.

Yes I've got that serial number somewhere. My C-81 is a '79 IIRC. I've tried searching through the manuals on this site but just don't ever seem to have any luck finding what I"m looking for. So far as my back......... I'm on the couch on a heating pad watching terrible old movies!!!! I use impact guns and drills with socket drivers in them to speed things up to reduce the amount of time I have to be up moving around as much as I can. Everyone says it, let me repeat it. Take care of your back. Here is a shot of my girl. at some point I am going to try to put a set of rib tractor tires up front as the current ones are so old the cracks are1/8-3/16 wide!!! I'm trying to find a set of the old narrow front wheels but no luck yet. Not many WHs made it to the South.

There's a big black crow making quite a nuisance of itself round here. Pinching food put out for the little birds and even trying to get into houses, if a door is left open. So I took one of my shotguns and some cartridges into the workshop. This afternoon it landed on it's usual perch in a big tree at the front of next door's drive. So out of the workshop I ran and with a quick snap shot, (no time to hesitate when dealing with crows) it took off minus a few feathers. We'll see if it has survived in the next day or so. On the light side to give you a smile, Carol's studio is next to the neighbours hedge. About 30ft from the tree. She was in there working on a painting when I fired. Ten foot away from the door. She nearly fell off her chair.

@D_Mac I have purchased new carbs from ISaveoldtractors . No problems with them. I learned a long long time also that I could not rebuild a carb if my life depended on it. I have seen them grow legs and run off the work bench when I laid down a rebuild kit next to them.

@Greentored i flipped a tractor over backwards once. Broke my arm and wrist in 100 pieces. Its all fun and games until you are on the ground with your hand turned around backwards.

Thinking about 30 years.... Might be my bad here but the bulbs actually didn't melt the lenses. It turned them brittle and then prone to cracking. This took a few years to happen tho. Add to the fact that most people in the early days didn't mow or use their horse after dark very much. Ever try to see decent at night on say a 69 Raider with the original headlights? I suspect that most of the originals might be broke from running into trees at night! Just guessing that most of your work will be to resto a tractor or to put him in the barn after dark. One is going to be serious about seeing after dark on a horse he is going to rig up some fancy dancy high tech LED blasters one gets on the jungle site or epay... The mafia now ... different story.... My go to tractor for a booze cruise will be one outfitted with decent lights.

Made a steel security fence topper for fitting tomorrow, cut the lawn as we have rain forecast for the weekend and strimmed the grass verge opposite our house. Its looking nice and green but I want to keep it tidy rather than descending into the bracken jungle 7 foot deep by the end of summer. I pulled all the new bracken shoots I could before cutting. Mick

I’d also pull the spark plugs while you are working on the electrical issue and squirt some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders. Let it work it’s magic on the pistons, rings and cylinders. It’ll smoke a bit on start up but no harm will be done. I don’t think your engine is seized, I think the guys are correct and it’s probably an electrical issue. One thing is for certain, we will help you get it going again!!

If you do not have a row of idiot lights on the dash it is a 1985 model. If you have a row of idiot lights on the dash it is a 1986 model. They are wired different. There is a short battery cable between the engine and the tractor frame. If it fails the starter will not work. Garry

You have a manual PTO on that tractor. Have you tried putting that in and out and in and out three or four times to verify that it is disengaged both physically and electrically? Once that is disengaged physically you should be able to see the clutch disc separate from the engine. Not much. At that point you should be able to turn the fan screen by hand.

While Im messin around here, i finally notice some thermodynamic features. A small slit at the front for cool air entry between the bulb and lens. Bulb heats the air, air rises, pulling cool air from below up and across the face of the lens.

I'm thinking something that articulates. Maybe twin transmission? 4x2 or 4x4 not sure yet. Or maybe long and low? Three 5hp briggs inline coupled to a 1950ish Ford 4 speed coupled to an 80's Honda 4 wheeler shaft drive rear? CRAP!!! I gotta walk away.

Yes it is. I thought about keeping these ones, but I think I will just keep the hood for a "later on" project.

There you go @krystolo! You’ll enjoy the outcome. If you have enough wire to move the anodes equal distance from each other around the tub, you might even get better results quicker

If you had the jump cables connected to the battery and still had no electric on the tractor any where. Then I would start by inspecting your tractor's battery cables. Check your positive and all of your negative cables. Remove them clean the terminals and the surface that the term mounts to.

Maybe some form of rollover protection would be useful? Would make for an interesting build thread for sure. I personally very much like the tractor in that picture. I've seen it several times on other threads. What you do with your machine is of course your business. Keeping these old tractors going is what we all love here too, and finding new "jobs" for them in particular is something I enjoy- especially when mods are done to accomplish it. That being said, I hope no one gets hurt on one. Each time I mow my pasture (has some crazy hills), I'm thankful for that seat belt and roll bar on the Scag! Again, it's none of my business and I know it. Feel free to ignore this.

Yeah I don't think the engine would seize after running fine and being shutoff unless it was really low or out of oil. I think the PTO and electrical troubleshooting is on the right path

If you remove the tank strainer, and keep the original fuel valve, solder/epoxy a short length of copper/brass tube in place of the strainer. Drill a few small cross holes in the tube. If you just have a “Hole” in the bottom of the tank for fuel to pass through, any debris, grass etc, (always a possibility when filling from cans especially with the **** that is sold as gas/petrol nowadays!), could be sucked over the valve opening causing issues, (after engine stops and suction from pump relaxes, debris “floats” away and everything is ok, until the next time). A short vertical tube with cross holes will prevent this from happening, there will always be an “opening for fuel to pass through. The same with a bulkhead fitting, drill a couple of cross holes in the leg that will go inside the tank. AND fit an external FILTER! Doug. p.s. Forgot to add, “pinch” the open end of the tube to slightly close it, to stop any larger pieces of debris from entering via gravity. On tanks with top mounted stack pipes this last is not necessary.

After re-packing the grease gun from a tub (yeah, I can’t find any of my full tubes and both guns ran out!), I greased the front end and rear drive tube. Looks like the left spindle pushed a little more out after wiping the excess away. I’ll get right in that and keep it in my pocket for the next time I see @Achto...

Actually, it was a couple of days ago, I rented a Witch Witch SK800, and used it to pluck the limestone caps off of the porch railing at my 'alternate location'. The slab on the porch is going bad, and the brick veneer on the front of the house, the brick railings, and brick columns holding the porch roof up are all on top of the slab. Got to clear the slab to get a new one poured. While I had the machine, I also buried some railroad ties next to and flush with the driveway to give it a tad more width. Fun machine to run, and beats the heck out of a shovel and wheelbarrow! The caps I pulled off weighed between 300 and about 800 pounds.
