11 pointsTook my 8 speed 953 out tilling today! Very nice day in Central Wisconsin!!! It worked great! Nice to have the best of both worlds! Low gear and hydraulic lift!
-
8 pointsI wanted to produce these, but decided the price would need to be too high.

8 pointsSpent the morning before heading to work rewiring my new Case 644. Set a new record for hackery.. what not with the headlight wire being slit and shoved over the start terminal on the key, then hooked right to the starter post of the solenoid.. man, yknow it turned over awful slow.. Switch was also loose.. perhaps on account of being in the hole where the direction selector lever belongs.. which is .. gone? I went to grab it since it was loose, and hence found that severely stressed piece of wiring art. There was also a literal section of Christmas tree light cord in another piece.. as well as a total lack of voltage regulator, with various wires arcing off of everything in site. How it never caught fire is beyond me, what with all the oil leaks.. Slow progress, it was owned by an utter blockhead.. but we will manage. Not too many of these left in New England it seems.

7 pointsAfter an odd reduction gear break on the B1 bomber on Friday, I swiped one from the parts archives and got it back together, fired up Lawn Duty to cut the yard, then grabbed Hoss and lined em up for a quick photo shoot. don’t know what it is about that 1277, but it just trips my trigger every time I run it. ...and that 16hp swap just makes it a grass slinging animal!

7 pointsPut the 312 to work mowing a baseball practice field. One nice thing about the 42" deck is that it fits nice in the bed of a truck! Makes it super handy for us country boys stuck in the city with no trailer Not the best pic as I should have took a closer pic of the field but basically mowed out the field shape. Felt good to get those new tires dirty!

6 pointsI’ve wanted for quite some time to stay up at night and throw some glow sticks in milk jugs and do some jug fishing... but I always seem to turn into a pumpkin when I sit after dark. This method is pretty slick too!
-
6 pointsFire in the hole!!!!! New coil, points and condenser and the C85 project is alive!!! Transmission seals leaking but she sounds good in all gears!!!! Happy camper! IMG_0377.MOV

6 pointsWorked some more on the rear hitch for the 1257Heavy, got to clean up few welds and then make the mounts to the transmission pin then should be good to go.
-
6 pointsMine are very similar to @squonk and maybe even like @lynnmor ..... 5/8" fine thread bolt in 1/2" plate. I made up two of them for 5 and 6 hole hubs. I also use grade 8 thru bolts with large flat washers against the back of the hub. After my second hub broke from a 3 bolt pull, I went to the all hole pull. In spite of this gorilla sized puller, the last D I had to go into I COULD NOT break either one loose! Ended up taking the axles out of case and going to a friend that had a 20 ton hyd press .... WOW!! when those things finally broke loose it sounded like a gunshot - POW!! Geez, between the hubs and steering wheels .... sure can be frustrating!!

5 points@Oldskool Could have been worse. It could have been this. !

5 pointsReplaced the drive belt on the 1075 today. Needed to be done before it gave out.
-
5 pointsUpdate: I fixed it! However, I think you all may get a kick out of it. After cleaning/fixing the melted wires, dash had only one light on - seat switch(which should be off). It cranked but no start. I was reading the demystification guide, reading your suggestions and trying to figure out what go wrong. Then I noticed that whenever I turn the key to ON, fuel gauge arrow would move downward, way below zero. Then it hit me, everything is reversed, lights, gauges. So I check the battery connecters (RED and GREEN in my case), well I connected them wrong way. Connected the battery correctly, tractor started right up no problem and just mowed the lawn. Happily surprised wrong connection didn't cause any havoc. I should have put some pictures with battery when I was trying to fix the issue, then you guys would have noticed right away. I am pretty embarrassed but also find it hilarious Thank you very much for all your comments and suggestions. @lynnmor, @Handy Don, @gwest_ca, @tom2p, @peter lena, @953 nut, @squonk, @Ed Kennell

5 pointsNeed a lot more info! How many years did it take? Methodology? How long do you think it will last? Will a "booster" be needed? What did you do to celebrate? Or are you still floating in the clouds?
-
5 pointsStarted making the rear bumper / hitch for the 1257Heavy. Shouldn't have to many more things to make or fix b4 final paint. ALOT OF LITTLE THINGS.
-
5 pointsWorked on one of my RJs today trying to set the shifter in a more centered position. Might be bent but I put a new longer dogpoint set screw on it. I usually put longer ones on my tractors so you can access them easier. Plus many 60 years and older are well worn!
-
5 pointsOK, so today was door day, I had cut the bricks yesterday but finally knocked the hole out this morning. The door arrived and with a bit of jiggery pokery I managed to get the thing in. That was between a couple of thunderstorms. Just got to seal around the frame when the expanding foam has cured and we are done. Oh, apart from the step obviously. Mick

4 pointsThank you all for the birthday wishes, they really do mean a lot to me. I am so fortunate to have the privilege to be able to run this place for you all. While I got no seat time, I got family time and it was great!
-
4 pointsI had to get help from the tire shop, but the new rears are mounted. Sidewalls were so thick that I couldn't mount them by hand.
-
4 pointsSo the wife took the shed over and commanded some of the RJ s for decoration. Now she started digging through all the corners in the property and as you would know it she finds more tractors. She approaches me today and asks “what’s with that tractor buried under all kinds of stuff in the other shed ?”. I think great now she’s finding them all and she’s going to give me the I am out of control speech. Surprisingly she did not. Instead directed me to clean it out and put it right in the front of house as an ornament. She is now going to also decorate around it. I can’t believe what is going on.

4 points5 7/16" fine thread bolts threaded into the hub. Backed up with washers and 7/16" fine nuts. (not shown) 1/2" plate with 2 heavy 7/8" fine thread nuts welded together and welded to the plate. HD 7/8" fine thread threaded rod with another heavy nut welded to the end. Fine thread screw gives more strength and pulling power. Extreme pressure grease on the threads.

4 pointsPost a for sale ad in the classified section, and include a price. I'm locking this thread from further responses.

4 pointsHonestly I'd have settled for a Suburban or a WH loader.. this old thing showed up right up the street for me at a fraction of the cost for a 'project' WH loader.. cant complain at all, but it has had some .. interesting changes through it's life. So they claim, it will lift 810lbs. Or more.. Has the rear 3pt, weight box, rototiller, and the deck.. which apparently is specific to a 6xx, won't work on a 4xx. Apparently a 'PTO' system was also less than common for a 644.. has it all. Apparently he scrapped the snow blower.. Little beast of a rig.
-
4 pointsMy brother brought his family over last weekend. My nephews have never been here and they have driven a pontoon before, but never anything with wheels. We had a blast indeed.. I’m glad Putt Putt’s steering roll pin fiasco happened to me this weekend!
-
3 pointsGood thinking, plow on the hydro and blower on the 8 speed would be good
-
3 pointsWife and I checked into a ritzy hotel yesterday for our anniversary. Ended up being way nicer than anticipated. Has a heck of a view. Can easily see Chicago 40 some miles away.
-
3 pointsYou need to keep both It never hurts to have a backup. Winter time you can have both blower and plow at the ready. If one should go down, the other is right there.
-
3 pointsCaught a groundhog that was making a home under the neighbors deck while they are at their place in FLA. Made some wood sideboard for the WH truck. Worked on shelving in the new WH barn. Planted tulips for the and used the FEL on the xi Scored a baseball game Hooked up the other neighbor with diesel motor oil after he drained it and realized he only had one quart of new oil! That's all folks!
-

3 pointsYou may be having an exhaust valve starting to hang up when it gets hot. Fire out the carb usually means there is still fire in the hole when the intake opens.

3 pointsSometimes dumb luck succeeds, right? My Dad proclaimed that nothing can be made foolproof. Why? Because fools are too clever. He has been proven correct more times than I can remember.

3 pointsThe wiring is also odd. By all means clean up all the connections. When the pto is OFF the pto switch powers the ignition switch which powers the ignition. When the pto is ON the seat switch powers the ignition switch which powers the ignition so operator must be in the seat. It may be that the seat switch is barely closing so ignition switch loses power. Click on the picture in the link to view the diagram. Garry

3 pointsHey, you gotta let the Old Coots win once in a while. Otherwise they get all cranky and chase kids off of their yards and drive slow in the passing lane on their way to Coffee Club at Burger King.
-
3 pointsBelieve it or not the shift fork is perfect.... so I didn’t mess with it haha. Robbed the gear out of an old 8 speed parts trans I had in the archives, and she’s all back together and working great! I even lined it up for a quick photo shoot with Hoss and Lawn Duty.
-
3 pointsDON'T LET @squonk TALK YOU GUYS INTO GOING TO GET BBQ. It is like Mr. Toads wild ride . Don't ask.
-
3 pointsCut the hole... . Bathroom is close. So is the coffee pot. And? The fridge. I'm sure your better half could see the time saving value there...

3 pointsThank you all for your help my 520 starts now with no grinding and it actually sounds like a starter should.

2 pointsAbsolutely a wonderful collection of knowledge! I spent my childhood summers in southern rural KY with my grandparents, with a bit more rural areas just a notch or two higher than very rural WV coal mine regions where folks had next to nothing. MY grandparents weren't near that poor but some around were close and with no phone or electricity. The "old ways" were still prevelant and I loved them. Not sure everone else did, but I still learned from them and that made a difference in my character. Reading Foxfire took me back to my childhood AND made me realize that many today will very quickly suffer and worse without help. Folks back then knew how to survive and they weren't called preppers OR survivalists! Just regular people doing what everyone else around did.
-
2 pointsOn youtube, I think sensible prepper is a good source, he got me waked up. I have a supply of food, water, 3000 gallons of diesel, trying to reach the minimum off 1000 rounds of ammo. BUT, supply's is only so much, having the skill and proper mindset is key!
-
2 pointsI'm a bit of a "prepper" and have collected hand powered tools and hopefully the knowledge to use them. When Covid hit and many were wondering about the future a friend and I chatted about what to do if our liquid fuel storage ran out and there was no more available. Steam was an option. Unlimited firewood! Would have to ditch the chainsaws of course but at least the fuel was here. But then steam power has it's issues... Probably a better approach for us was wood gas or perhaps alcohol, but I may never get around to it...
-
2 pointsOkay this will get me some hits.."If you didn't like solving electrical problems why did you buy a 520???"
-
2 pointsColder engines need more fuel. In winter they are sucking in cold air and maybe a bit of snow. A minor tweak (1/8) turn isn't unheard of as far as I am concerned. Had to do it many times.
