Couple years since this old 16hp thumper has been in service here. After a fluids change today the old girl is ready to see some action.

I picked this up this morning. Checked the oil, the gear oil, the fuel bowl, blew out the tank. put a used fuel pump on, dropped a battery in it, blew up the tires. It fired rite up! I've been running the wheels off this thing. It's going to need a solenoid very soon though.

Picked up a few engines. (4) FH, FI, Q, H, and S.

Trina and her mom spent some time splittin' firewood. 🔥 We've got a decent jump on next winter but still a ways to go. That's the Charger hydro pictured. I pulled a couple 2/3 loads (trailer back empty) from the forest. A little more experimenting with welding. Trina's 867 seat pan brace has been broken for many many moons. A week or two ago it bent so she decided it should get welded up. Pretty thin metal so I decided to go with 1/16" 6013 rod. I'm sure I didn't need to use a piece quite so wide but that's what I had handy so that's what went on. I did burn through in one place when I forgot to check the amperage and had it too high. Fixed that. Ground out some other places I wasn't fond of and filled them in. Leveled off the top and here it sits. To install the seat latch I put a notch in the added metal with a cutoff wheel. Then finished grinding with the Dremel. I've ordered some rubber baby buggy bumpers. Those will be popped in later.

Picked this up last Summer because it ran so good, but very ugly. I could see it had a future and so far it has been a fun tractor that doesn't smoke or burn oil and the Eaton 1100 seams strong. I guess sometimes you can't judge a book by it's cover. Still not done playing around and improving things but as I age I just don't seam to be in such a hurry as I used to be. Anyhow some before and after pictures one year later.

Decided it was time to remove the Winter set up on the 417-8 and get ready for the Tine rake setup for the trail system etc. Going to let the 312-8 sit the mowing duties aside this year and let the 418-A take over this year. This is the first time in many years that I mowed with a Hydro and a RD deck. I can't believe how quick I finished and not going much faster than with the 8 speed. No shifting was welcomed for a change. I can relate to @Ed Kennell 's comments on how he prefers them for mowing and blowing. Also installed the OEM 520-H seat and NOS armrests on the 418-A along with new fuel lines , filter and NOS Horsehead square padded keys on both.

I got some from McMaster -Carr. Not exact but work and much cheaper than Toro. Lowell also has the Toro ones 9309k89 about 10 cents a piece from MMC first pic OE on the left MMC on the right.

Another good deal done. I have to say, I've done alot of deals over the years many people and many different items. Since I've been into Garden Tractors NEVER have I had a bad deal.

Every "Mother's Day" Trina does something interesting for her Mama. I get dragged along whether I like it or not. Who am I kidding? They're always wonderful adventures!! So this year we drove to Portland Maine and took the Downeaster train to Boston. Walked around a bit. Went to the aquarium. Got a great meal. Another lovely day.

Napa 610-1051. Yes it costs more. But you get it most likely in a day and you help keep a local store open instead of the internet. You may have an emergency some day and the place is closed!

Fleet maintenance 😁. Decarbonizing heads, replacing yet another mouse chewed ignition coil (the lousy rat bastards), and seeing if I can fix a degrading muffler that's developed an annoying squeak at certain RPM.

So the engine may be specked for 63 but your tractor’s serial number 62 1187 says it’s a 62 thanks @gwest_ca . Besides the front axle, starter/generator belt guard you also have the clutch/brake pedal, and early 62 straight shift lever of a 1961/62 . If you look at the hood stand where your lift lever should be the holes to mount the stop are offset . In 63 they were level with each other for the adjustable stop . All these are adding up that it’s a 702 and not a 753 . I’m not trying to be a jerk here I’m following all the clues to what the tractor really is . This is all knowledge that I learned from the members of this great forum . You probably already know that the seat is wrong and have the replacement steering wheel that many wheel horses got put on throughout the years. 753 or 702 both great tractors to have. The casting date on the trans could be another clue. 1994 520H First bath since I refreshed her...

My wife wanted out of the house so I took her for a long ride into the white mountains of N.H. and into Vermont. Told her I had to make a quick stop for a tractor part. She said I’m sure you do. Anyway cast iron weights are really cool and I’m becoming a bit infatuated with them. Got these today. And not to worry my wife got a great meal and a rum punch for desert! 50 lbs. Bolens weights and what he called slim weights that can be stacked on the Bolens weights. I believe he said they we’re sears?

Got some of the girls out for a photo op!

I will call my coal guy this week he will bring me 4 tons take about 20 minutes to get it in to the coal bin and I will be set for next winter...

I have see mules that you needed a 2x4 to make adjustments, you had to get their attention first.

My "shop time/play time " has been in short supply the last week or so, but I did get a package on Friday and had time to install it and get another shiny piece off the shelf and back onto the tractor.

Not a , but growing up on a farm we were introduced to tractors at an early age.

A Kohler twin. A Black Hood. Wheel Horse wheel weights, and it runs. Surely it has to be worth $300. I can't figure out what that gizmo mounted on the hood is, and of course I have never seen one of these, but I suspect it has the wrong fender pan on it as well. I'm not sure where I am going to put it though, somethings gotta go. Either that or cut a garage door in to my sons old bedroom.

I saw this at the annual tractor show in sugar creek and though Dennis would like it. Unfortunately the owner wasn’t around for me to talk to but I loved it just the same. Weather wasn’t the worst it’s ever been but the show went on.

Today I learned: decarbonizing heads on a Kohler Magnum single is so quick and easy it should be considered criminal negligence that I've not done it till now. Literally a couple bolts to remove the top tin and then the head bolts themselves and it's off. The tools of this trade for me today was an old toothbrush and my favorite carb cleaner Berryman's B12. I couldn't find my nice brass bristle brush but I'm sure that would have made the job go even quicker. Before: After:

You nailed it Jeff. Several dead giveaways. The only 63's that used that front axle were the Lawn Rangers and the 603. Nice write up.

@ACman @stevasaurus are correct 702. Lift arm and rockshaft for this are only on 701,702,552.

I replaced the gear oil in a commando [I think] 800. I put it from a 2 gallon container into a quart sized squeeze bottle and then through the toolbox mounting hole in the transmission. BTW, I think a rubber grommet from a Harbor freight box-o-grommets is a good thing to do in case the bolt threads do not exclude moisture. TSC 2 gallon container was much cheaper to buy than any other way at $28.I also need to purchase some gear shift boots.... Gonna do at least five more, so buying in bulk makes sense. Filling a tractor without a top check stick was a new experience, but as usual, plenty of help from you guys Thanks!!!

Did some tilling yesterday with the B140-8. First time tilling since upgrading to 14Hp and adding hydraulic lift. The hydraulic lift makes this so much more fun. However installing the tiller is a bear. That right idler pulley has to to be positioned just right to latch in. Also I had much much better performance using the older L-shaped mid idler and had no belts flipping off the pulley

I've never seen one up close and you've seen them all! Please share some of your history with Lennox! Especially this little gal, the dozer I mean. Unless you know her too!

Kitty track on my bucket list. Only made two years and being a Lennox dealer for 50 years figured I should have one. Nice one close if the guy every decides to sell!

I don't know if this THE one I am talking about but it very well could be. The guy had a few Cases at the last show. Anyways I thought it was a clean build.

The rest of my decals showed up this week so I was able to put the last finishing touches on. Patten decal for the transmission. Counsel decals. Engine decals

New belt cover. Still have a little tweaking to do.

Good evening gang, It appears that the problem with my deck has been solved. Turns out that the tires air pressure was way low on all four. After inflating to the correct pressure the mower is cutting nice and level. I did remove the deck to inspect the items outlined by 8ntruck, no issues found. After remounted the deck confirming that the front fork was engaged correctly I checked the tire pressure and discovered that it was very low. Added air to all the tires and took it for a test run, pretty close to perfect. Thanks for advice and suggestions, really appreciate the support.

Went for our second covid jabs today. Our route took us past a field with three wind turbines in. One looked a bit odd in the distance so we got a bit closer. I'm not sure how the damage was done but its pretty spectacular, if it was a bird strike we must have some pretty beefy sparrows out here. I'm guessing its pretty much scrap.

Yep, it's a 702 with a 753 engine. @ACman I take it Gerry verified the serial number as a 1962 number. The seat is wrong for both the 702 & 753 and if it has more then 13 holes around the outside edge it is not even from Wheel Horse.. Good eye Jeff.
