16 pointsMy second build along with the whatchamacallit is this one. It's a modified 520-H with a new built 23hp Vanguard. Not much to show yet, but here is the start of the build: The rear tires have already been moved to the whatchamacallit, and the new 25x10-12 tires will be here Saturday. The front tires are 18x8.50-8, on a 5 lug hub. I'm trying to gain an inch or two in height overall. The plan is to transfer that to a higher deck height of 3.5 inches with the 60SD deck. Obviously the deck will be modified as well for this to work.

8 pointsGot out Clyde (953) installed the grader and used it to clean up the edge of the field for summer mowing at dad’s... Thanks @Shynon again for selling this tractor to me for dad—he really enjoys using it for a variety of tasks. Plowed snow with it throughout the winter, rolled the lawn with it this spring...just plain a useful old machine to have around👍🏻

7 pointsI saw this at the annual tractor show in sugar creek and though Dennis would like it. Unfortunately the owner wasn’t around for me to talk to but I loved it just the same. Weather wasn’t the worst it’s ever been but the show went on.

6 pointsThe old Wheel Horse facility in South Bend became the home of Lock Joint Tube in Indiana. They manufacture various types of steel tubing for industries of all kinds. So the facility is still in use, hard at work in the manufacturing and industrial sector. Google Maps will show it at 515 West Ireland Road in South Bend. Even further back in time is the general location of several other Wheel Horse historical places, on US highway 933 (Originally US 31) just north of South Bend. Here's a clip of the Google Street View image, looking south: On the right is the old Chandler's Sales building -- they were the major Wheel Horse dealer in South Bend back in the day. In this picture, the "Wheel Horse" signage is still present on the awning. They also sold Jacobsen and Lawn-Boy, and of course, Toro. Where the CVS Pharmacy building is, was once the original Pond factory and showroom. It housed various small manufacturing/machine shop tenants over the decades after the Wheel Horse moved to the Ireland Road location. If you were to turn right at the traffic light, you'd pass the Pond's house, still standing, another street over on the left. On the left of the photo, the low building with the green roof stands where an old gas station (Gulf, I believe) was converted in the late 1960s into Clay Service Center, the dealer for John Deere lawn and garden equipment. (Our family's JD 112 was purchased there in 1070). This little corner of 933 and Auten Rd. is sort of a historical hotspot for classic L&G equipment lovers!

5 pointsWell my son Brandon and I spend some quality time taking his 414-8 from a winter workhouse to a summer work horse. Good times and made some more great memories. Happy to have another generation to appreciate and happy to own a Wheel Horse!

4 pointsHowdy everyone, I recently was given a wheel horse for parts. It had a 12 hp motor and an 8 speed. It was in awful shape. The prior owner needed the motor for a log skidder, and I needed the rear wheels for an ATV trailer. I pulled the motor and took the rest home, only to find the tires were completely shot. I broke it down into parts, it is an amazingly well built machine. The transmission is in good working order, I want to repurpose it into one of my 6x6 amphibious ATVs. When researching the wheel horse, I really liked the friendly nature of this forum. If anybody needs any bits off an old wheel horse other than the tranny, let me know, I hate to throw out parts someone could put to use.

4 pointsGot all the new tires put on! Took about an hour and half but got my workout in and little fun with fire so not a bad morning. Kinda wishing I went with more of silver than a grey color on the rims but o'well. This tractor is my main worker so stopping and preventing rust was the main goal. I was surprised at the different stance appearance going with the 9.5" wides over the 7.5" that were on it. Looks like plenty of clearance for chains too all around.

3 pointsto the forum. Bunch of good folks here that have already broken and fixed about anything on a Wheel Horse. They are eager to provide guidance, too. I believe that the cutting height on your deck is set by the gage wheels on the rear of the deck. Check to see if anything is bent or broken in the linkage and rod that connects the wheels. Is the blade on the low side on its spindle upside down? Is there vertical play in the low hand spindle? Is the mower correctly positioned in the attach-matic hitch? Is any of the attachment linkage on the low side bent? Oh yah, we are like little kids around here - we like pictures. Makes posts easier to read Good luck and have fun.

3 pointsI have had the best results using Rustoleum Clear Enamel. It will cut and buff out to super shine. I experimented with the lacquer and it was not as durable. I use Magic paint 80/20 mix with hardener, applied with a cheap HF gun, dry for a week and if possible leave in the sun. Top coat with the Rustoleum. (Rustoleum only available in rattle cans) The belt cover picture has the enamel top coat after a 1500 grit sand and buffed.

3 pointsThank you. She wanted a horse for herself and our daughters to use around the yard but didn't want just plain red so this is what she came up with and I've just been making it happen. I was thinking of new decals but when I got this horse the ones on it were only about year or 2 old and perfect shape so decided to run with them. Once he gets caught up I might toss a email out and get a set made to go with the color a little better but all in all I dnt think looks to bad for the color scheme. Still got to mount new tires and paint rims and finish the decals.

3 pointsReworked yesterday the „winterplace“ in the Shed and build for the Horse it‘s own Service Station... Begin with enhance and rework the High storage . what i can cover to protect it from outside curious views a little more stylish. after that is being done, i give the Mowerdeck a little care and Service.. I love it, to work without lifting heavier parts by myself. Today i continoue the Work on the Backhoe a little bit. I will try the Liftcylindre i had aside, that was rated at 1 To. Pulling force. Cylindres can be exchanged later if they be to weak. I fabed a mountpoint for the Cylindre from a flat Steel 10mm thick..

3 pointsMe too, Ive often wondered though how to stop all Toronto or Montreal Traffic period.....Makes me think of an ol jock ops joke from years ago and wonder if it would work on them? My buddy we call Newf.....well he decided to head west! Well off he goes, driving west on what is considered the busiest hwy in north america, he was smart to avoid Montreal cuz he doesnt know how the language. Down the road he drives....Toronto 300km, Toronto 200km Totonto 100km then he saw this sign saying Toronto left. Boy was he so pissed off he turned around and went right back home......Hmmmmm he really is a good ol boy, drink ya under the table! But I figure thats ok, he always baught the beer heheheheh.

3 pointsI think in reality both are excellent, The variable places we put them to work is where they each shine. I found my hydro had all kinds of power, so much so it split both keways when I way over stressed it, but like the old fart I am I love the gears. One has to remember too when a hydro is just walking, its a reduction in gearing fluidly, if that a word I dont know hehehehe, But honestly Im not sure how it would equate in ratios as per say a particulare gear. I will say this though, on the standards at 200 plus to one....for a garden tractor is like having a 454 big block grunt. Dang I love em both cuz they have there own specialities I guess!!! And what I figure is, if wheel Horse put either into production there engineers figured it right......hey its a horse, who stops a horse, it sure aint a deer hahahahahah.

3 pointsGood thing about paint is if you are not happy with the color you can always repaint them ! When I did the 416-8 I used more of a silver color.

2 pointsSearching today for a thing and look what i’ve found... The gift i got on my last USA Workstay from Bob, my US Workmate since. I knew, i kept it on a save place, but didn‘t remember where This safe place was.. 😂 oh yeah, the age... and my Brain..... two things they go their own Way.. 😎 But finally i found it. today i’m doing a littl welding. Buzzing some Steel together. Drilled a hole and reuse a 3 Point rearmount as an Mountpoint. The Main Beam finally exists. the 2 Anglemounts will be used as Tiltpoint for side swing. i plan to increase the holes and weld two Rect. pipes on the leverpoint ( 3 Point) where the Beamcylinder later will be mounted. to check what cylinderlenght i can use, i do few tests.... Beam completely in Beam about half out Beam about 2/3 out And Beam completely out. the big Steel U in the Front shall be later the mountpoint that should be the side tilt connector opposite to the both Steelmounts laying under the 3 point . therefore i plan to drill all the holes up to 19mm. i thinkering about a 50A plasma cutter to be able to cut the both Armlevers out. The empty Weight for the complete Backhoe is precalculated at about 130Kilos. 150 kilos gross weight. Hydraulic system gets a 40L pump and a 20 liter Oiltank. Mainbeam is made of rect. Steelpipe 70x50 5mm thick the Arm is made of a rect. Steelpipe 50x40 6mm thick the Swing U is 140x85 9 mm thick. that should last i think... enstiffners are planed but not all are welded on for now. .... to be continued

2 pointsOk Bob ... Cindy and I were riding around at a show and drove past a guy with a couple of horses. Ok nothin new but a couple of hours later Dan comes back into camp asking if I got any cash. Sure I says I got a bit lets go have a peek see watcha found?... always up for a ride. So we go over to this guy Cindy and i drove past and there's a horse sittin ther. No for sale sign on it mind you. Right away cause of the double belt guard it hits me this is a 701. Older poorer resto but definitely has the right plumbing meaning it's all ther. So I says to the guy for sale ?? does it run? He says yah ... how much? 200 he says and I says sold!!!! Never even bothered to quibble on the price as we knew what we was looking at being fairly complete and somewhat rare in these parts. We knew the belt guard was worth that! A few things cobbled and incorrect but still. Rest is history. We barely managed to get it back to camp but dollar billed the points a few times and we both got seat time. But it didn't smoke and sounded fine so all it needed was Dan's touch. I hopped on it for a few shows after that and it always left me stranded ...yep 1$ bill! Too bad we were already celebrating and we didn't get any pics...the only one I have... nice mug Ritchie! That was a good show I'll never forget that one. The year of the runaway draft horses Dan....

2 pointsAfter making a 6hr round trip run to adopt another horse yesterday, I had enough time left in the day to respray my rims. Second time was the charm , they turned out much better this time. With any luck I will be able to paint the sheet metal next weekend and then it will be assembly time.
