I picked up this 1992 520H a couple of weeks ago from my boss that has owned it since it was brand new. It was always garaged kept and cleaned thoroughly when he was done with it at the end of the season. It's still in immaculate condition for the year and being a well used mower. It has over 900Hrs on it but had a new block installed a few years ago. He provided me with all maintenance records along with all the owners manuals, service manuals, buyers brochures and even the bill of sale from original purchase. He gave me a snow plow and attachments for it, rear rack with sprayer on it and I am also storing his aerater for him so i can also use that anytime I want. This was a heck of a score and got all this for $350. Sold my Husqvarna zero turn for $840 so made a profit and now have a great machine to play with. First picture was when I first brought it home and others are after i cleaned it up some.

We got the boys Rjs all button up this weekend and ready for show season!

I've got the old car thing and the old boat thing down. I really want an old truck, either a Chevy 3100 or mid sixties C10.

My grandmother is going to sell her late husbands Wheel Horse c-161. She wants the extra space in her garage. It comes with a working snow thrower and mower deck, also spare tires w/ chains. She still has original paperwork and manuals for it, and every service record and invoice related. I told her I would help her sell it, I just don’t know much about the value of these. Any reasonable help as to what to list it for would be very much appreciated. I think the tractor is really cool I just don’t have the space in my building either!

so I spent a few hours today welding up a custom front weight bracket for my 310-8. It has two and a half inches of ground clearance with a generic 12 inch weight bolted on. so the question is, how well do y’all think the 300 series front axle will hold the weight? It’s only 50lbs so it’s lighter than the snowblower it has to hold up in winter so I don’t think I’ll have any problems. And I really don’t intend on using it constantly.

Got the linkage kinda sorted out today. The tunnel framework made it a little difficult to get everything lined up but I think I got it. Just need a new brake spring and a belt. Hopefully I can het it moving soon.

Picked up a 1982 C-85 Friday. Rough shape but REALLY cheap. The Good: Tires hold air. It rolls. New battery. It cranks. The Notsogood: No spark. Trans had 2 quarts of water and 1/2 quart of mocha colored sludge… Trans is leaking a bit from the drive pulley shaft. Front wheels have a wee bit of play in the bearings… The seat… The Plan: Trans oil change - done Engine oil change - done Get spark. Get running. Assess smoke output. Determine list of “needs”. Run numbers and decide if full resto, working stiff resto, or another rat rod… more to come…

You'd be better off keeping it and getting rid of what ever is taking up space in your building.

Saw this photo and thought of @ebinmaine military tribute build.

My brother could listen to a song on a transistor radio in the dark. Go down stairs still in the dark and within 5 minutes play the song he just heard. Me? I used the benches for our piano and organ as goals to play rug hockey with 2 wooden rulers and a metal Vicks Vap O Rub lid. ( That metal lid would smart when it whacked your fingernails just right! )

Knocked out the last of the rivets in a 42 inch knife bar section for a Wheel Horse tractor. Cleaned off more rust on the edges of the knife bar and oiled it down. Next step will be installing new blades and rivets! The Johnson Sickle Servicer tool should make installing new blades and rivets much easier than ever before!

Depends on what your area brings. Here in NY guys want $500+++ for junk. If I had it here and wanted to move it quick and give someone a deal, $795

I had my wheels media blasted and painted them myself. The cost was $80, but I had several other pieces done at the same time. My shop has a minimum charge of $80. so I took other things along with. I am assuming the major cost in your $300 estimate is the powder coating. Just have them blasted and paint them your self. Trying to sand wheels, and make them look good, is near impossible. Of course, there are other options

Hello. Value is notoriously hard to judge based on a few photographs. You can only ever expect a ball park figure this way. I would never think about making an offer unless I had seen and appraised condition for myself. You asked what it was worth, not what someone would pay. They are two very different things. I know men who have paid way over the odds for an item for various reasons, and I know those who will only pay the bare minimum. Plus also remember that location will affect price. If a machine is plentiful in an area the price goes down as you can pick and choose, if they are scarce people are prepared to pay more. The guys in here know their stuff and will not try to stiff anyone with lowball values. You asked for advice and it was freely given. If you truly know nothing about the value of your set up then you are in no position to question that advice, based on the "advice" of someone else. Put it up for sale and see what the market in your area will support. If you find a buyer willing to pay 2700 all well and good, if not don't be upset about it, it will make what it makes which for a lot of people is not what they thought it should have made.

Ok Bob ... Cindy and I were riding around at a show and drove past a guy with a couple of horses. Ok nothin new but a couple of hours later Dan comes back into camp asking if I got any cash. Sure I says I got a bit lets go have a peek see watcha found?... always up for a ride. So we go over to this guy Cindy and i drove past and there's a horse sittin ther. No for sale sign on it mind you. Right away cause of the double belt guard it hits me this is a 701. Older poorer resto but definitely has the right plumbing meaning it's all ther. So I says to the guy for sale ?? does it run? He says yah ... how much? 200 he says and I says sold!!!! Never even bothered to quibble on the price as we knew what we was looking at being fairly complete and somewhat rare in these parts. We knew the belt guard was worth that! A few things cobbled and incorrect but still. Rest is history. We barely managed to get it back to camp but dollar billed the points a few times and we both got seat time. But it didn't smoke and sounded fine so all it needed was Dan's touch. I hopped on it for a few shows after that and it always left me stranded ...yep 1$ bill! Too bad we were already celebrating and we didn't get any pics...the only one I have... nice mug Ritchie! That was a good show I'll never forget that one. The year of the runaway draft horses Dan....

Back to work after a couple of weeks off. Wife was getting tired of not being able to park inside, so I had to straighten everything up until next weekend. All the horses put to bed

have a model 414 Haban sickle mower, did some trading and wound up with this beast, feller said it came off an older Wheel Horse, is it worth anything?

Tonight after work I started the dreaded wiring. My nemesis if you will. I did get to the point of solenoid activation. It cranks over nicely, and hey what do ya know it even has spark. Tomorrow night will be the cig lighter, the kill wire and the charging wire. If I can get my hands on another fuel tank I just might have Hiram up and running by the end of the week.

Actually, they did do things that made since. They were frugal and they used the parts they had on hand to keep putting out horses. I keep saying, "They were not building Corvettes". Matching serial numbers and making a different horse every year, just was not in their ball park. These are garden tractors. Look at what they did with transmissions...any changes were very subtle. The length of the axle, the size of the input shaft, where the brake drum was mounted, etc. The case haves, at least the left side, is pretty much the same part for ever. So, don't say the things they did, did not make since. It made perfect since for the time and place to keep being the best in class. These are the finest examples of American ingenuity there is...out side of Maytag Washers. Staying competitive is always a tough thing to do...my hat is off to those who made this work for as many years as they did. Sears was one of the 1st to offer cheaper GT's and mower's and many other things. They would try to get a Corp. like Skill to offer it's brand under their name...once they had that, they would sell them out and force them to change their advertising to Sears and then cheapen the product. Skill said "NO!!" Not many companies could say that. So, stop playing the Monday night 1/4 back, and look at what was going on at the time. We all make choices based on what is going on now...it would be nice to now before hand, if we made the right choice.

Campground Details - CALEDONIA STATE PARK, PA - Pennsylvania State Parks (reserveamerica.com) I never camped there, but I can tell you it has one of the coldest spring fed pools around. Nice half hour drive through the orchards to the show Lacawanna and Francis Slocum State parks are near 81 about 2-3 hours from the show.

Edog gave up running.....he does practice his 2nd amendment rights though.

Exactly... one 'internet expert' says it's worth " X " and another 'internet expert' says it's worth " Y " . Which 'expert' do you believe? I'm not an expert by any stretch. I've got one machine that is a worker. But I've watched sales for years. Here's what I think, based on what I've seen stuff actually selling for. Not 'asking' price, but actual sales. Machine: looks pretty nice, maybe $800 tops Snow cab: maybe $350 tops Blade: maybe $150 (and that's a stretch, it would have to be perfect, including the edge of the blade) Deck: say $400 if it's quiet and no bad bearings. Ags: say $150 (no cracking or dry rot) That comes to $1850 You might get that from a 'local' buyer that can 'bring a trailer'. If it had to ship, you're talking lots of cash. You won't get that much. Which is why I thought $1200 for the package was a good price, and shipping is likely to be much more than $650.

That was a fairly scary few seconds!! Jim, Jason & I were laying a few furrows down while the horse pull was going on. We had stopped at the end of the field to jaw jack for a bit when all of a sudden Cindy comes running over the hill screaming "LOOK OUT". Apparently when they dropped the hitch for the team of horses pictured above, it missed the hook. The team heard the clink sound of the hitch hitting the stone boat and bolted, (which is what they are trained to do). Problem being, there was no stone boat to hold them back. Of course the reins got ripped out of the drivers hands and these horses were on the loose. They come over the hill behind us at a full out run, and flew between us while we were sitting on our tractors talking. Literally missing Jason by a few inches. From there they headed to the spectators parking lot where they got tangled in their harness and bashed into the side of a car. This was where they were finally caught & brought under control. Luckily no people were hurt and the horses did not suffer any injuries either. Quite an exciting few moments!! I think Jason had to go take care of a "brown out" in his shorts after this fiasco.

If you never had a teckey before they can be a bit finicky. You will find out when it get hot. I hope you enjoy it after it is done.

Let me run this by you in a slightly different way of thinking... How DIY is your mindset? I've learned over the last few years to look for the value in something. Not just the cost. The VALUE. Trina and I do as much for ourselves, by ourselves, as we can. About the only thing we won't tackle around the house or yard is plumbing or electrical because those are both safety and code related. Now let's take a look at your situation from my mindset. Let's say you're going to need to spend $300 to make your rusty old wheels look like new again. If you purchase new wheels and have them welded up and then painted you're going to be at or above that price level even if the welder and the painter treat you really really well. Remember to compare the durability of powder coating versus painting. I already have good access to somebody who can paint. I've bought a welder and become reasonably functional at using it. What I don't have to fit this particular situation is a sandblaster. So rather than spending $300 getting new wheels and still have a set of old wheels laying around, I'd go purchase a sandblaster. That narrows my ACTUAL COST down to the consumables. Welding rod, cans of paint and primer, and the blasting media. So my question to you is, do you have all the tools necessary? Do you have the time? Do you want to take the time? COST is more of a menial consideration for me than VALUE.

Nice work on that bracket. That's the same axle as most others. Spindles might be different of it's a 6 inch wheel. I'd run around all year with at LEAST an extra 100 lbs on there and not even think about it. Maybe even 200.

Best to keep that cut off wheel away from your dermis though!

It was a pretty nice day today, so I decided to take the 876 on it's maiden voyage. All was going ok, until I got to the grass, and then it didn't want to go so good. The trans seemed to work fine when it was up on jack stands, now, not so much. I got to the street, went about 50', and decided I had better turn back. I knew if I went down the slope in my side yard, I would never be able to climb back up again. While I was driving through the grass again, I was just hoping I could make it over the slight bump, from grass to concrete driveway. I seemed to be slowing down. Then it hit me.The free wheeling valve ! WOW....what a difference that makes. This is the only hydro tractor I have that will pull the front wheels off the ground. Easily! Should get my saddle, and super duper decal adhesive that Terry recommended by mid week, I hope.

I have 1 stuck hub, that's completely dry, and a stuck hitch pin in the trans. They are staying stuck! Not going through that again. Did you know, if you turn the trans upside down, and go in the house for a minute, all the oil will run out the shifter hole. Yep, it will !

It’s fairly obvious that if you’re here you love Wheel Horse garden tractor’s. But what else if anything catches your eye? For me it’s the hydraulic Colt/Case/Ingersoll's. Mind you I like the old Economy tractors pretty well too. I own a very nice 56’ Economy but my wandering eye is on the look out for a Colt/Case/Ingersoll. How about you guys, only Red or do you stray? BTW I’ve never owned a Case.

Easily 800 to 1000 in this area... maybe even a a couple hundred more. That right there with the sweet sixteen is a bucket list tractor for me!

So long as your ground clearance doesn’t become an issue... it’ll be fine. Remember to jack up the frame (or your new bracket) while greasing the front axle, spindles, etc so the grease can get to where it’s most needed.

You're correct. We've not had any implements to drive with the engine..... But soon..... I have the Mckissick chipper to put into action. Also the generator implement I've had sitting around. At some point I'd like to try a hand at building an engine driven air compressor as well. Cinnamon's big K341 will be a great driver for any of them. I may also put a PTO on the Charger 12.
