well i love t mow with my C-120 automatic and tuesday i bought my dream car a 1981 corvette

interesting. I like the don;t drive at night thing.

I use Shell Rotella 30 all year. Look how clean the inside of this engine is at 980 hours and how nice the crank journal looks. This engine was still running with a broken piston!

So this has been on Clist for quite a while, gradually reducing in price. I looked at it, made an offer that was refused, but I left my number. He called and said come get it this morning. He said he bough it years ago as a replacement engine for a grain elevator on his farm. Old Kohler on the grain elevator just kept running till he sold the farm and moved near here to retire. He said he started it once, then drained the gas years ago. Many things look NOS, the spark plug still has factory red paint on it, the paint hasn't even darkened around the exhaust and the nipple screwed into the exhaust has rusty threads, but was just a little more than hand tight. The Spec# list it as a Basic 8HP Engine, and the Serial Number comes up as a 1986 I want to put some new fuel hose on it. Then hopefully I'll get to see if it will run this weekend, wish me luck.

A couple of parts orders came in today. The new seat looks amazing! Got a chrome lug set, a little piece to fill the grill until I get my headlights sorted out, a plug for the hour meter hole, and some filters.

I always find things go better when I wear my high heels and business suit! Perhaps not everything, ladders can be tricky lol.

I had some time tonight to get a few things done. The brake drum and parts were put on. The drive pulley, engine pulley,and belt was put on. Along with the brake cover and belt gaurd. The list is getting shorter.

The tire shop broke the beads for $0 and I finished the rest. I'm accustomed to stiff dirt bike tires with tubes/rim locks so these are a piece of cake. Gained a bit on the cut height which is a big plus Much less steering effort and they look sweet

I've been walking the dog in the nearby state game area. I don't think any hunting seasons are open, the underbrush has not started to grow yet and it is still too cold for mosquitoes, so this is a good time to wander in the woods. Dog and I usually do about two miles. One thing that has been bothering me is the amount of litter I am seeing. One spot, it looks like some creaton cleaned the trash out of his pickup box - pile of bottles, cans, boxes, rags, etc. Yesterday, I packed a 30 gallon trash bag along and filled it, leaving about 1/3 of the pile. Today's walk, I packed another 30 gallon bag along, got the rest of the pile and a bunch of litter on the way back to the car to fill that bag as well. Probably pack another bag along tomorrow as well. One thing I found that I can't pack out is the remains of an old car. I'll try to snap some pictures and post them to see if anybody can identify the make, model, and year. It is well along to returning to iron oxide, so there are not too many clues left.

Gives the term "Air Cooled" a slightly different meaning! (This forum is awesome!. Where else can you get heckled from the back by people you never have heckled before! You are now on the list Joe! )

Well, geez, that was easy. 🤦‍♀️ Walked in to Auto Zone in my high heels and business suit, asked the clerk for exhaust pipe for my tractor (got a weird look, but what evs) and bought a nice long section and a curvy bit for the top. Later, changed into my real clothes, took a trip to the farm, and got it all fitted up! I guess I need to clamp it?

I put the headlight lens that arrived in the mail from @Darb1964 today: Before: After: How does the headlight bucket come out? Looks like mine is riveted to the hood. The left hand socket is sketchy and the white paint on the bucket is shot and needing a re-spray.

Tires hold air, new battery, deck, mule drive, ugly seat winner, transmission seems quiet, “ran when parked last fall” but no spark at the moment... will start a thread in resto / mod section soon... still thinking about options... got it for cheap so it’s all good...

I would like to reiterate on what @Darb1964 mentioned above on Tuesday of this week. I could not have put into words any better than Darb did in describing the RS members and this forum. It remains a mystery to me how @nylyon and his RS staff were able to amass so many members with similar interests and a common bond. Since the age of 18 I have joined many clubs, fraternal organizations and been on several committees and still hold membership in most of them in 2 different states and can honestly say you guys are a special bunch for sure. Having dealt with several on here by way of PM for parts and a few in person ( Darb) , as one,you ALL have produced the goods and have my utmost respect. Lastly I am sure many of you would agree with me on the above mentioned heartfelt comments from Darb.

Have you checked the float level in the carb...11/64" between float and housing...

Hi Chris! @stevasaurus knows the technical stuff. I can just count!

Chris, 6 speeds were earlier, equipped with limited slip diffs. The brake drum is on a different shaft than 8 speeds, it’s in the same spot as 3 speeds. Typically, a 6 speed has a 1/2xclose nipple and 1/2 coupler on the fill to hold an additional 1/2 quart of oil.

That's normally considered to be the correct way. In reality it doesn't make much difference unless you're dealing with race engine applications. The biggest thing with a tractor is to make sure that if it's parked in the rain the water can't run down the pipe into the engine.

I work hard to deserve the bad mouthing. You and Dan need to communicate more often. I think I could have figured out how to toss the 15 in with the 10. It doesn't have the swing the 10 has though. I checked all three out for continuity and that was good so I'm assuming they work fine. Let me know if you need it Jim.

This is the stack I made and fitted to Fred. Stainless pipe all brazed up into a silencer (muffler). I made a support bracket for it too so that I could use flexible pipe. The clamps are shown here with the saw cuts to allow the pipe to close up under the clamps. Be sure not to cut them too long or you will get leakage. Hope this helps in getting you taller stack fitted. Mick

Welcome abord, and thank you for your service. Anything you need most likely can be found on this site at the right $. I can't talk for all wheel horse owners but the ones on this site are salt of the earth and will do what they can to help you out. There is other resources here other than tractors and just about any clean and proper subject is welcome other than politics and religious. I'm sure others but you know what I mean. Well I guess our addiction to wheel horse tractors could be considered a religion but that's what makes this work. I've found myself on here more than ever because of the world today and my personal health situation, almost like consoling and putting trouble of life on hold for a time. You don't get picked on for your short coming either. Ninety nine percent of what I wrote is gospel.

My neighbor is a retired engineer and works on mowers on the side now. He has a 1990 or 89 S420 48 inch with Onan engine. Has 341 hours. He got the mower because of the electrical issue and corrected that but hasn't been into the engine. It doesn't leak or burn oil and purrs like a kitten when running. The belts are 2 years old but the tires are all dry rotted. They hold air but still no good. It runs strong too. Almost too strong. In high throttle you can't turn sharp because it keeps pushing you forward a little bit. It cuts well and on a scale of 1-10 on appearance, I would give it a 7 because the seat has two tears. It was garaged because the paint is still bright. He wants 950 for it. I wont pay that. I was thinking 600. Does that sound fair?

Picked these up today. Cast aluminum. I think they belong to a Sears and a MTD. Anyone confirm that? Not sure what to do with them other then nice wall hangers

@Handy Don it was just I didn’t clean it well enough for the photo. Just dirt! But for sure, you had me thinking and worried so back to the garage and off with the belt guard to double check. Thank you again for all the insight and feedback. I did order a new drive belt and tension spring and they should be here next week. You are correct though on that left side panel as I just replaced two hydraulic lines on my 416-H and that roll pin/brake lever combo is a bear. Haha. Thanks again and I’ll let you know next week how progress is.

Steve remember the axle gears in a 10 pinion have different teeth than the axle gears used in other differentials.

In your particular case you might not need clamps. You have gravity working in your favor to hold the pipes onto themselves. The pipes are large enough that they will likely be very free breathing while the engine is running. You could just try it out and see what it's like. If they rattle or leak then you'll want to get some sealer in between them which may function as a holder as well.

Can't do that yet , having too much fun picking on the Tractor Mafia and Pullstart . Keep thinking about the big barn with a throne room . My brother has a 2 1/2 bay garage , other 1/2 of 3rd bay is throne room with mop sink , water heater and small heater for the winter and a crap load of paint and chemicals. And a big A_ _ refrigerator for cold beverages.
