9 points@WHX24 and @pullstart were posting adds that they were finding for for sale. This type of enabling got me to looking around until I happened upon one that they missed. It was a D160 at a very reasonable price so I decided to give the seller a call and set up a time to go look at it. His schedule and mine dictated an early morning run for me. With trailer in tow, I started my 3hr journey at 4:30am to go have a look see. What I found was a fairly strait tractor that was in need of a little (Ok maybe a lot of love) Seller was at 2 1/2, after looking it over and pointing out some issues I countered with a buck and a half. We met in the middle at 2 Benny's which I thought was a good enough deal. Of course it didn't happen with out pic's, so here's some shots of me new baby. I would have liked to see some more equipment hanging off from the rear end but for the price it was not a deal breaker. If the meter is correct there are not a huge amount of hours on the 'ole girl. Known issues so far. Engine turns over & has compression but no spark. Wiring is a nightmare Steering needs some surgery. Missing throttle linkage. My first plan is to see if the Onan will run and how well it runs. If it has major issues I will most likely look for a K341 to replace it with. The steering pivot arm under the tractor has been broken, repaired, broken, repaired etc a few times. I may look for a new one but will more likely fab one from steel as these are often an issue. Future plans are to build a FEL for this tractor and maybe a back hoe. Back hoe is not in stone though. Currently I have so many iron's in the fire that I won't be able to start on this tractor right away, so don't look for any progress on this right away. She will be put on moth balls for a while until I can give her some attention.

9 pointsHarbor freight trailers are completely out of stock in my area so I bought this 300lb capacity atv rack instead. It's awesome! On it I have a pair of 18 gallon Rubbermaid totes, a 5 gallon gas can, and my Milwaukee M18 chainsaw. I also provisioned it to pull my gorilla cart which will work until I can get the 4x8' trailer I want. This setup was amazing for running around the property today and getting a bunch of branches chipped up. Oh yeah and I really want to find a way to carry a fire extinguisher onboard... It's like they left the perfect sized area in the engine bay to carry one, I just have to find a way to mount it securely.

7 pointsInteresting 24 hours it has been.. Little old Simplicity 725 shows up on Marketplace last night, so I headed right out and ended up coming home with it. No idea why.. but never got the chance to have a early Simp for a good price before. Cyclops headlamp is original, real solid deck too. One owner prior to this fellow, stored for many years in a garage before being pushed outside to rot. Pity, must have looked great before. Sent a few pics of it around, fellow I know had been looking for one. ...Annnd offers this, admittedly, somewhat over the hill 1957 Country Squire as a trade. On the simple condition that the Simplicity could be driven off the truck and moved on it's own. Touched up the points, stuck a battery in it, and everything works perfectly. Almost a shame to move it along.. Anyway. Grabbed the Squire this morning. Basically it is an Economy Power King, in almost every detail they are the same. The brakes .. when it had brakes.. were somewhat different, the badge reads differently, and most seem to have not had a hood. This one I am unsure.. extended starter pulley and a bracket on one side, but not the other.. so who knows? The Economy was bad enough about maintaining a single design, these off branded ones may have been even worse. She's a New England coastal special. The shroud is hung by one bolt. The entire front, bottom, and one side have rotted away. The mag is shot and there seems to be no new (good) coils made. 16" rears are ballasted and a little punky. The frame itself is rather pitted, but still strong. But if it doesn't fire right off and run like a watch.. The brake gear has rotted off the frame. Originally it had rather sketchy rods under the frame and you stepped down through the rails around the drive shaft to depress one at a time.. I'll likely make up some hand lever brakes up by the fenders.

6 pointsToday I had the opportunity to walk around 10 acres of a mostly Wheel Horse and John Deere tractors. My guess is there was 50 to 70 Wheel Horses with countless numbers of snow plows and mowing decks. There was a 520-8, many 520-H,and quite a few 417’s. Nothing I was told ran and many had been there for years. I bought a few things and was told to come back anytime. Snapped a few photos.

6 pointsWas out for a ride with the wife and spied a Wheel Horse on a side lawn. No engine and no deck also nobody home. How many times do you supposed I can cruise this neighborhood before someone comes home or another neighbor calls the cops? 🤣🤣

6 pointsWas able to get a little more millings spread out today and rolled it with my little yellow steamroller. I will go back over it and rent a tamper once I get it all spread. I might get another load dropped, went a little thick in some areas to level the job out. I am super happy with this old girl! I was messing with the carb adjustments today, I think I found a good setting on it, still occasionally pops, but for the most part it was running good. It doesn't like to run below a half a tank of gas though. I still think the fuel pump is a bit on the weak side. Do they sell the diaphragm and valves for the original pump anywhere? the repaired hydraulic hose will need attention. hose clamps just dont cut it. David.

6 pointsI got around to fixing the wobbly steering wheel on the 520. We were going to fix it last year but my friend caught covid back in December. We worked on it to day. here is the pictures after we finished. Here are a couple of pictures. Still need to paint the new attachment.

5 pointsAfter giving the Black Horse a run yesterday, I thought to be fair, I'd treat the Command 800 C-81 just so it didn't feel neglected. It's not been run for 6 months though the battery has been kept charged up. Now after standing unused for a while, it takes a bit of winding up. No primer bulb on it like it's stable mates. That's on the to do list. Turned over fine but didn't fire. So off with the air filter and out with the petrol spray bottle. It's a good job I've long legs and arms. Right hand to operate the key, left to work the spray and left foot on the clutch pedal due to safety switch. Took about a minute for fuel to pump through. before the engine would run without the petrol spray. Didn't take it down the bridleway as it has the finger/sickle bar fitted and the track is rather rough in places. Took it up the lane a little instead.

5 pointsStarted the disassembly, and as usual, got carried away. As I pulled one thing off, I found something else below it that I wanted to clean or remove rust & paint or completely replace. Soon it looked like this picture. The "refurbishment" has become a "restoration" at this point. Putting in my order today for a decal set.

4 pointsCouldn't tempt her into having a go with the sawzall though. With a brick blade in its got a decent kick on it. Next job is to remove the block work and get ready to cut the outside leaf of bricks out to form the doorway. But I will wait till we have the new door to do that. Its much narrower than a standard door but its just to give us easier access to the rear garden.

3 pointsPlaying a little on the Engine setup and with the Muffler setup to change the Predators Sound. I measured before on driverseat 96dbA what is not too loud but sounds a little like a church pipe in deep tone. So i calculated the last day’s a little arround with frequencies and frequency ranges and with Airflow pulsation and played today a little on the lathe for get a little more experiences for results in Soundchecks and even some db Reduction. The third change i calculated was the best from the Sound and even it drops the db ratio down to 79-80dbA on driverseat. The Basics exhaust setup was a selfmade flange with maximum outlet of the Engine (1/2“) followed by a 3/4“ 90* Fitting and a welded3/4“ pipe with 5cm. after that comes a 1“ 90* Fitting upwards to the Stack. the stack itself was made of of the fragments of the old Muffler where i built into a rectangle housing of 5cm by 5cm pipe with 4mm thickness and a lenght of 13,3 cm. In the stack itself have 2 chambers, they seperate the Airflow thru the drilled sheetmetal. the upper Pipe with the slope cut was 1“ and measures 21,5 cm from the stack to the highest point on the exhaust pipe. That gives a cool sound deep but it reminds me a little to a church pipe on full throttle. Because of the free flow internal it get this charakeristic Sound. With the today‘s changes - i built a 4,5 cm long 3/4“ insertion pipe, that will be mounted in to 8,5cm from top into the end pipe - it changes the sound to a much more flat Sound. The sound changes from deep pipe sound now to a more deep flat pressure Sound. it sounds like it beeing more Volume but it have not so much db‘s in idle. Curious how this sounds on higher rpm and even on Full throttle. Soundcheck comes soon.

3 pointsA lot of those old tanks used some kind of grease. I put 90w in an old Wizard tiller my Grandfather had and half of it leaked out thru the gaskets. Ariens and Oregon sells a 00 grease for their snowblower gear boxes. 3 pointsI use a pair of locking pliers when airing up the first time. Tire shops have the locking air chuck. Those are worth every penny when you need one.

3 pointsmy father was stationed in Alaska in service ( US Army during Korean War ) during periods of the winter the vehicles ran non-stop - 24 hours per day - never shut off we found some old Army pictures not long ago - including one picture of a group of guys standing in front of a small truck / transport vehicle - guys with no emotion or expression on their faces turned the picture over - written on the back: 'boy was it cold' lol

3 pointsBe careful when you fit a tube to any wheel/ tire, make sure the valve stem is pointing towards the side of the rim the hole is in, (offset), and never inflate the tube for the first time with the valve in. If you get it wrong, and the valve is installed, the valve stem can disappear inside the tyre, you won’t be able to get the tire off the rim without puncturing the tube to let the air out! Don’t ask me how I know!!

3 pointsYes, those are the seals you do not need. #100863 is the newer number from Wheel Horse and super-seeds the #1232 and equates to SKF-9815. Those seals will work on any Wheel Horse 2 piece transmission with 1" axles.

3 pointsMy C-121, Aka The Black Horse, Hasn't been run for some time. Today I thought I'd give it a run out. Turned on the fuel. Couple of squeezes of the primer bulb. Pulled the choke out. Turned the key and it fired up straight away. Not bad! I then took it for a run down the bridleway. Ran along like a good 'un.
