9 pointsMy C-121, Aka The Black Horse, Hasn't been run for some time. Today I thought I'd give it a run out. Turned on the fuel. Couple of squeezes of the primer bulb. Pulled the choke out. Turned the key and it fired up straight away. Not bad! I then took it for a run down the bridleway. Ran along like a good 'un.

9 pointsThere should be two bolts inside the right frame rail into two tapped holes in the pan.

7 pointsDefinitely want to get yourself three or four cans of brake clean or whatever degreaser is Handy to you and get that transmission cleaned up. I'm not at all thinking that the axle seal is causing all that fluid at the top of the transmission.
-
6 pointsInstalled a new head gasket and started making a spacer for the transmission and fenders

5 pointsMy guess is the axle seal if just fine. The oil by the fill tube is from when it was filled last December. It goes in slow and some went over the top before it could drop into the transmission. The spill on the concrete is from only a few drops of oil that finally dripped down the side of the case. I'd bet, if the case was cleaned up, no more oil would be on the floor. Clean case first and check to see if that fixed your leak.
-
5 pointsAll good advice above from Eric, Richard, and Garry. Just a couple observations from your pictures. That stain on the floor looks like much less than 15 oz to me. With all that oil on the top of the case , it appears the leak may be from the fill tube. And yes, before you replace the seal, file the area around the keyway to remove all burrs and sand the axle so the hub wlll slide over the full length of the axle.

5 pointsLearned that the hard way! Always thought just 2 bolts held the engines on my horses... till I tried winching a engine off after removing the 2 bolts you can see and the frame still lifting with the motor! That's how I found the 2 hidden bolts!

5 pointsTook a second pulley off one of my RJ’s that I usually have a CBR/32 front cutter bar on. Put a new drive belt on as the old one was stretched out. Also changed transmission fluid in the RJ and put my RJ belt guard back on !

4 pointsI have to second that on Terry. I added a solid bar for some weight on the front of my lawn Ranger and I wanted a lawn Ranger sticker on it to dress it up a little bit but the standard size was too large. Terry worked and worked and worked to get a three-quarter scale sticker made that I could actually peel off without tearing. If I remember correctly I think he sent me a second one when I did tear it accidentally. In the picture it almost looks the same size as the standard sticker but it’s not.

4 pointsThe engine has the correct spec number and Kohler built it in 1977. The tractor was scheduled to be built 008165 - Build date 1977 7066 March 07 Monday Garry

4 pointsI had some lumber laying around from skids made from 2 x 6 and I wanted 4 foot sides so I could cover the top with a tarp and still have the horses below the sides. I also plan on using it to haul other things. Dual axles, electric brakes, and new 10 ply tires my Tundra should handle it well. I think it's big enough
-
4 pointsI GOT 'EM! I found my other two ratchet straps and decided before taking off one of the beads and stuffing 2x4 in to spread them, heating them up... that I would try again with the ratchet straps. Still took a bit of finagling, but the three straps spread the sides just far enough that I was able to get them to take air. Now I have to repaint the damage the tire monkeys did, but such is life. They could have used a third coat anyway! So now on to the deck repairs... @ebinmaine @Oldskool @D_Mac

3 pointsWe compared 2 14 HP tractors. So let's compare 2 tires. The tire on the left Carlisle Tru Power 23X10.50-12 $125 Tire on the right Deestone Super Extra Grip 23X10.50-12 $90 Supposedly the same size. It's my understanding, the numbers mean this; 23, Height of tire. 10.50, Width of tire. 12, Wheel size If I am wrong, please correct me. I often am. The tire on the left, is 23" high. Right, 22 1/2". Not a big difference. The width of tire on the left is, 11". Right, 9.5". Big difference I don't know the actual measurement of the rims. The tire on the left is more what I was expecting, when I ordered the tires on the right. But it is what it is. Now I know. Of course I had to set one of the aluminum wheels up next to the Massey. As you can see, I have plenty of room for a 26" tire. With the tire on, using the 4" back set, it sticks out too far for my liking. Turn it around, 8" back set. Much better, and there is plenty of clearance. On both sides even. The center hub on the Massey, is larger than the Wheel Horse, and larger than what's in the rim. A 1/4" or 1/2" spacer on each lug bolt would take care of that. Personally, I would have thought tire sizing would have been more standardized. If a tire says it's 23X10.50-12, That tire should be, 23X10.50-12

3 pointsCheck the mating surfaces to be clean and free of nicks and burrs. Doesn't take much for those to occur in aluminum. Lately I have been using some Permatex products like high tack and such just to make sure. The ultra black is always on the shelf. Nothing worse than a rebuild that leaks oil. Lots of good info & tech tips on their site. Permatex

3 pointsHit it with a can of cheap store brand Non-flammable brake cleaner. Let it sit a while then hit it with CRC Non-flammable brake cleaner. Let it evaporate. Blow dry it off. If you see any spots on the case that look funny hit it with carb cleaner and go have a coffee. It there are any cracks the carb cleaner will bring them out to the naked eye.

3 points@krystoloLooks like maybe you should put in a want ad for the top engine tin to help with keeping the head cool. Unless you just temporarily removed it.

3 pointsI just finished putting together my latest horse hauler New tires, wiring, lights, and even has electric brakes! The taillights/turn signals are thin LED that fit inside the rear bumper. I'm going to diamond plate the whole bed eventually. The 2 x 6 's on the table are to screw to the top before covering it with a tarp. The bed is 18' x 8'

3 pointsIf you are going to use spacers, you should use a spacer that supports the whole mounting surface of the wheel, not just the area around the studs. You are more likely to have cracks start in the mounting surface around the bolt holes with small spacers around the studs - espically in aluminum wheels.

3 pointsOn my charger 12 they used two J bolts on the side that overhangs the frame and two regular bolts on the other side. I didn’t even think about the fact that they would put a bolt up through the bottom of the frame into a threaded hole in the bottom of the engine but that makes sense.
-
2 pointsI didn't notice that offset with the '77 120 until I went to reinstall the engine and scratched my head for a while. It doesn't fit any other way. Call it a big block and be happy with it
