9 pointsAs a follow up to my earlier post about pretty tractors, I just made my 141 a little prettier. At least I think so. I found out, what most of you probably already know, You cannot use the stock 7/16 lug bolts to attach wheel spacers, and of course my little metropolis here offers little in the way of 7/16 fine thread anything. But I found enough hardware to at least temporarily bolt on the spacers. Then came trying to get the wheel on to the lug bolts. Nope. A 1/2" bolt would go through the holes, barely. Getting 5 of them through 5 holes was not gonna happen. I (reluctantly) bored out my new rims, to 9/16. That worked. When I was measuring, and looking, and trying to decide how thick the spacers had to be, I decided on 1 1/2". Of course I was doing all my measuring on the right side. The left side has the brake mechanism. CRAP ! I added (2) 1/2" flat washer to the studs, and the tires cleared. I added another washer for good measure. The fronts were another story all together. My original hubs are about 3 3/4 wide at the spindle. These new spindles are about 2 3/4". If I was suppose to order spacers for this difference, good ole Ed at Miller Tire, neglected to tell me that. Actually Ed was a great help. He knew his product, he knew what I was trying to do, and he knew what I needed, even if I didn't THANK YOU ED ! I cut some spacers from some 1" galvanized pipe for now. Tomorrow I will get something a little better. As a side note. My wife loves it. Reminds her of her High School days. WHEW !

8 pointsGases, greased, checked oil and out for a drive! Four of the five RJ’s got some sun today! Suppose to reach 70 today in Indiana! Plus got the 702 out and warmed up. Still have work to do on the $60 RJ I bought for my brother David. I have two repaired and repainted RJ hoods and will pick best application for this rj. Already have a rebuilt showerhead muffler (rebuilt with new Kohler muffler front premed on old Kohler showerhead rear) .

8 pointsSeen this at a local auction yard. I can't even imagine who may have had this snow blower in our area. We get snow but nothing that would require this hog.

7 pointsSimilar story here .... The 1978 D180 shown first I have owned for some 25yrs. Being the first rider mower It was what started my .... obsession?? with the horses. (I have since owned some 20-25 various models, with the "D" family still my favorite) Here it is shown after a major 'refurb' after some 20+ yrs of hard use. Here is shown a 1978 MF 1650 that I lucked up on with a friend calling me and asking "you ever heard of MF having a L&G tractor? I reply 'no' He says well my neighbor of some 20 yrs saw me using my horse to cut grass and walked over and asked if me would like to have an old tractor he had ... short story, he didnt want it, so I went over and and after finding he wanted $150 for it and the tiller, I jumped on it -- having no idea about the MF's. Was pretty rough having sat outside for MANY yrs, but on getting it in the shop I pretty quickly realised that it was, or could be, a nice tractor. And it indeed IS a nice tractor. Drive system very similar (same?) to Gregors 14. The 1650 has the K341 and is physically a tad larger than the D's. As far as ride comfort, I'm afraid the MF has the D beat -- If you are at all familiar with the D and its gas tank positioned where it is restricts the seats going back far enough to be really comfortable. As much as I still love my horse, I have to admit to have taken quite a liking to the Masseys... I now also have a MF1655 which is a beefed up 1650. With my advancing age, I have trimmed down my involvement with this hobby of messin with these great old tractors - Sure been a lot of pleasure!!

6 pointsThere are a lot of posts about balance gears in Kohler singles. I think it is time we tried to gather some solid data not just internet rumors about balance gear failures. There is no doubt some fail. Question is what ones. Kohler had two styles of balance gears old and new. Recent reports on here of failures appear to be the old style. The new style was also used in Magnum singles, but I haven't see many comments about failure there. So if you had a failure or knocking noise what engine was it in and was it old or new.... .

6 pointsGot a call yesterday from a lady that was recently widowed and told me to come get her husband's wheel horse and get it out of her shed. Her son got her a brand new husqvarna. So I didn't argue and I went down tonight and picked it up. Apparently they had a lot of trouble with it, but i know these folks and although they are good people i knew this tractor wasn't maintained. I had a Raider 10 a long time ago and sold it and I have kicked myself for it ever since. This thing needs some work, but I think I found next winter's project!

6 pointsAbout seven years ago I made this using a Harbor Freight furniture dolly and 2" x 4" lumber. It was sized to fit the 5xi mower decks which are heavier but Classic WH mower decks also fit. That is a RD 42" Classic deck in the photos. The two "cleats" across the bottom catch on the edge of the shell and allow me to lay it over the deck to roll it up.

6 pointsOK Now I feel a little ashamed, and a whole lot-a stupid. Remember back when I tried putting the hood on my 656, but it was gone? Guess what? It seems I now have a spare hood, for my next 656. It was buried in my tow behind lawn cart, under a folded tarp, some of my wifes potting supplies, and the grandkids sleds. Went to use my cart yesterday day, and VIOLA ! But I do feel better knowing that someone didn't come into my driveway and simply take it

6 pointsWonder if that would fit on my 314... get some big snow banks this could prob help me move them to the neighbors house.

5 pointsGoing to put a dump box on the back. Had one made up but was way to heavy behind the rear axle and would just do wheelies. 😂 picture is before. Now the rear axle should be just about center of that box when I’m done.
-
5 pointsBuy it, have the haulier park it next to your fence line, then hook up a ‘Horse’ with a p.t.o. to it, chute facing the right way, push the snow banks up to it with a plow, then feed it 🌨🌨slowly, one shovel full at a time! Sawing logs, shoveling snow, much better ( and cheaper ), exercise than going to a gym. 🏋️♀️🏋️♂️🤸♂️.

5 pointsGot that battery situation straightened out for now, got a Walmart el-chepo in there for the moment. Ran some new cables for it and rigged a temporary wire strap for the moment. yea, the belt wore a nice hole in the side of that old battery fluid was long gone in that cell, but the other cells still had some juice in them. Figured you guys would get a laugh out of it. I changed the oil in the Kohler that was nice and black. I also changes the fluid in the sundstrand. it was a bit low, barely read on the dipstick. so that is up to speck with new filter and trans fluid. I ran new fuel line from the original shutoff valve to the fuel pump, placed a new, clear inline filter. I think I am having an issue with my fuel pump??? still need to pull apart the carb, but the filter took a long time to fill up and prime, and once it got below a half a tank it would sputter and stall out. So I think i am going to pull the pump to see if it is stuck or clogged. I installed the snow/dozer blade I have for it... I will go out and take a pic of the part number on that blade, but it is missing the angle adjustment linkage, and I had to take an unconventional approach to mount the rear hitch mount that I had for it off a toro setup. but it is on and working. I connected a solid mount for the lift piston so I could get some down pressure on it and off I went to regrade my driveway.... So, I have a red shale driveway that has been pounded into the ground and has just been a muddy mess since we bought the place a little over a year ago. we are getting a load of asphalt millings delivered this week and I need to press this thing into service. I have a few pics of the driveway before and what I was able to get done so far and I'll post some pics of my plow setup.. Thanks, David.

5 pointsI can see the. CL ad already for something like this! Used engine for sale. Only knocks when it runs. It’ll get ya home, most likely! Trade for 40 lbs of bacon.

4 pointsMore parts painted and installed. The Kohler will be getting installed next week.

4 pointsNot much happened here today but I did get a box from McMaster-Carr with some brake lining in it. Man they are fast.
-
4 pointsSo today I degreased and cleaned the deck. Needs a patch on top but not to bad. Decided to try it on for size. Goes on easy enough. All my other Wheel Horses had the front mule drive so I wanted to make sure this set up was all there. I'm going to use the deck on my 857 after it is repaired and painted. I still have not tried to start it yet.... soon.

4 pointsScarified the lawn. I have lots of moss. Powered scarifier on the 518H (power steering) and the vacuum on the C175 enabled two passes and created probably 60-70 cu ft of moss. Anyone want to make hanging baskets? Moss is pretty ideal for nice damp basket linings.

4 pointsJada and Rylee have debate projects for the last quarter of their year in science. Ironically, they both have topics against oil/gas in one way or another. They are seeing how there are pros and cons for every topic. Today we used some nails and tubing scraps to build an Alaskan Pipeline model for Rylee’s debate.

4 pointshi guys, yea I have the plow mounts on backwards. the plow mount came off of a Toro wheel horse model and to fit it to mine this is the only way i could clear the transmission. If there is another way, I couldnt see it. I guess the tach-a-matic is bent it came that way. I dont think this plow and bracket is the correct plow for this machine, but I am doing what I can with what I have.

4 pointsA few mornings back I noticed water on the floor near the toilet. I soaked it up and mentioned it to the missus. Packing gland at the valve was tightened and it was monitored for the next 2 days with no luck.. Ferruie fitting at the tank was tightened and leak stopped. The kicker is I didn't do any of that.. The missus took care of it all. Man have I got a gem!

3 pointsAbout a year ago I started to hear a rattle in my K341 thumper at 980 hrs. I replaced it with a used engine from @richmondred01 and the engine has been flawless. Now waiting for the grass to grow I decided to tear into the old one to find out what was going on and evaluate it's condition. First the original story: Got a Harbor Fright engine stand and modified it a bit to hold the Kohler. Degreased it and took the trim off. Got the pan off and engine pieces were laying on the edge of the block! Ended up finding 3 pieces of the piston skirt and what looks to be a balance gear needle Picture of the piston minus part of the skirt Crank and rod bearing surface look good! Engine was really clean inside. Didn't clean anything! Balance gear closest to the pan was really loose. Looks like I dodged a bullet!

3 pointsYes you can. here is a modern side discharge mounted on an Electro. I used the 8-5551 brackets to mount the mule drive. The trunnion rides up and down the lift rod and is attached directory to the deck. It is the heavy 1/2" diameter lift rod. If you want to be period correct you could get a front mount mule drive like last 2 pictures.

3 pointsIs it a plastic ferrule? Those can crack and major water leak! I've had it happen when I wasn't home. Hope that the small leak was not a precursor to a full blown flood. I would be changing the connector pipe as preventative maintenance!
