Even correctly installed I have had several Kohlers that weep oil from the valve cover. I hate using sealant as it makes disassembly for cleaning very difficult. I recently made a discovery that Kohler must have noted the problem and changed very slightly the design of the cover. I have put a new version on with no sealant and so far after a few hours no seepage. The little ridge around the cover on the sealing surface bites into the gasket and also may provide a bit more resistance to bending, New on the right.

Bought this 520-8 at an auction last Thursday for a very good price and had it delivered today. I couldn't pass it up. Included a 60" deck. All in great shape! Only see a dent in the front of the hood that looks like it can be straightened out pretty easily. I'm excited! Pics:

I gave my 312-8 a backpack and a tool pouch. Unless I have a trailer hitched up it always seems like I'm lacking storage on the tractor. The tool pouch could be secured in there better. I might try something else like maybe a roll up pouch

I got a but load of 3/4" I can send you a couple for the cost of a stamp. Prolly get them faster from MC tho than USPS these days. Quick story here when I was a green horn here (still am) and not having a clue Bob Parks sent me one to get me out of a jam.... he didn' even know me back then. Never forgot that so now I stock them and try to pay it forward. I buy in bulk now, give half to Dan for all the crap he does for me and tell him to make some friends too.

Trina found me a steering wheel yesterday at work. I'll take the four posts cross piece out of the middle and install something that's either three or five and has a smaller center. Absolutely awesome that it's repurposed. Just about the right size and shape as well.

It's a bad sidewall on the tire. Has to be. I already told my wife it was a bad sidewall on the tire.

The problem might be 50-75% of the lookouts would buy it for themselves if they find one

Here is a broken set screw Lawnman_56. (Rodney Burger ) spent thirty minutes getting out of his 854! He used a pick to slowly turn the broken screw. I buy set screws from McMaster-Carr also but buy them one inch long instead of 3/4. The location of the set screws on top of the tractor tins and the Allen wrench inset are difficult to access. The extra length helps with jam nut and access for big fingers!

If you replaced the missing cap, I think it would've taken a charge.

When I was at Napa, we had these 2 old guys who were delivery drivers. They were always playing jokes on each other. One day while one was out, the other got a pin and poked pinholes around the 1st guys styrofoam cup..So whenever the cup was tipped it would dribble all over. He did this 3 days in a row before the other guy figured it out.

My Kwik-Way loader needed a new pump and I couldn't find a MTE C304 original equipment to replace it. With this belt drive system, a pump should be rated for that side load but even the original pump was a plain bushing type. I found that the Haldex Concentric 10567 pump is rated for belt drive and has a ball bearing, but I do hate that it has a 1/2" shaft rather than a 5/8", so I used a H bushing type pulley to get a better grip on the shaft and to locate the belt as close as possible to the pump. The original pump mount on the sub-frame apparently was for a model that didn't have a PTO clutch hoop as the belt would ride against it. Also, the pump hit the floorboard, so I was always fighting that. I had rigged the old pump at an angle but that wasn't ideal. To mount this new pump much better, I made a mounting plate to offset the pump position quite a bit. This new plate mounts on the inside with four bolts rather than the two that didn't hold position very long. The new pump displaces .517 and the original was .407, the performance is no longer painfully slow.

That's funny. I went to an auction a few years back.Well worn 314 Anniversary model. Dead battery bald tires. I wasn't going to go over $300. A guy shows up and sits on the tractor for over an hour. Nobody could even check It out if they wanted to. It sold for $700. (I bid the guy up)

I haven't done it yet, but this really bites doesn't it? I have to fill it up every couple of days. Now I am going to have to put new bar tires on the 141. Darn !

I inherited my 417-A which was purchased new and used commercially for a while by my step grandpa,(the guy who introduced me to Wheel Horse tractors in1982) then it went to my uncle, then my cousin. All of whom took very good care of it. Finally it was given to me to keep in the family where it was retired from mowing duties with a little over a thousand hours on it. I then mounted a 44” two stage blower and a cab on it, and now it is dedicated to snow removal for the rest of the foreseeable future. I love the way it sounds under a load, if the moisture content of the snow is right it will throw snow as high as the phone wires!

Just pulled the the straight pipe off of my GT-1100 and replaced it with the stock muffler (certain members of my household didn't like how loud it was).

Me too. I was looking to pay $5-600 for mine at an auction. When it went up for sale, it would not even turn over. I bought it for $160, then held the ignition in start position while I jiggled the PTO lever. It fired up and I drove it on my trailer.

Don't take much to entertain us I guess.... get to be some of our ages the other forms of adult entertainment are out the window....

This tractor is also getting new front tires and chrome/aluminum wheels. These wheel are, uh, ummmm.....well I'm not sure what they are. But there's something wrong with them I'm sure.

I had the trickle charger on this for a couple of days. Would not hold a charge. I had to get a new battery.

Was today quick at my Friend Hannes in his Workshop, he always did a great Job and is definitely for me an Artist in Bodywork and also his Paintjobs are upper quality. I knew lot of his restaurated Vehicles, like the orange 2002 BMW or some other Brands. The Plastics are removed on the Sleeper and we do together a quick Checkup for upcoming or maybe hidden Troubles. This is now an 11 years old Car, and it is not Bad in shape at all. Flex pipe becomes rusty and must maybe changed the next 2 Years but the Rest is still solid and ok. Few smaller beginning Rustspots on the surface where plastic meets Metal but most can be fixed without any Welding. So the Fixup has allready begun and shall be finished until Friday he meants. After we checked the Car today together, i ask him for also fix this all up at once. He agreed, he is my Bodywork guru on such things, i keep my Fingers better away - Live and let live ! After this short Visit i was Corona conform at my Horse.... Radio tells continuesley - Corona comes - incedence Values increases again quick... Yap, think they be right... Corona is dang close to the Horse, good to have another FFP2 Masks...😂 and while we run into next Lockdown i organized me a Box „Shed Beer“ ok, not the whole Box at once, but „one Beer a Day keeps the Doctor away“ i believe i have heared several Moons ago.

My C175 is fitted with a Magnum 18 (original KT17 threw a rod) and after arriving at a friend's field with the tractor in the trailer, I tried to start it to go and do the job I had come to do. Clunk! Engine rotated a few degrees and came to a dead stop.....something was stopping it from rotating. Removing the flywheel showed that the alternator had lost a magnet or two which had dropped into the works jamming any further rotation...pulverising the magnets in the process. Problem: those magnets are not available as spares (well, I couldn't source any) and the only option available from Kohler was a complete new flywheel at great expense. Repair was possible however because luckily, I have a very well equipped workshop and so here's what I did (see photos): You can buy very powerful Neodymium magnets in all shapes and sizes (though I couldn't find the crescent shape required by this alternator). So, I machined up a Tuffnol ring that mimicked the original magnets and then milled recesses into it to accommodate the magnets. The magnets were glued in place using 24Hr epoxy and then the whole assembly was glued into the flywheel. The Tuffnol ring means the inner face of the flywheel is smooth...nothing can drop off and jam any more. The magnets are positioned with alternating poles, which means that the generating frequency will be much higher, due to there being many more magnets. I probably should have grouped them into groups of 6 of the same polarity (there's 36 in total), but I didn't think of that at the time. My approach was to simply fill the existing space with however many magnets would fit! The result is a more powerful alternator which may even be too powerful for the regulator as the ammeter always shows significant positive charge. I'm on the same battery (and regulator) some 9 years later. though..and it is still working well.

I sometimes don't even notice that I've been 'vented' until I see blood smears on what I'm working on.

Everyone keep an eye out for a backhoe for me. Looks like thats gonna be a bear to find. I saw one posted up in pa but never got a response. Looking for a Brantly similar to @roadapples (LD6?) or SOMETHING. The home builts I've seen from PE are nice like @wallfish, but I'm gonna need a hoe! So keep yer ears(eyes, keyboards, whatever) open for any word of a backhoe for one o these critters!

just offered 700 on it, Ill see what they say. It does have the diodes on the dash and the louvered hood, so im assuming its a 1986 at this point It has wheel horse decals on it, but a toro seat, that appears to be original? Could that be possible? Ill see what they say.....now a waiting game

Apple Patches Corona

I have my Dads old one from his body shop business, used it many times back in the 70's We used lead weights and would place 2 of equal weight on the rim to get balance. One for both sides of the rim.

A bubble balancer will get you close for static balance. It won't do a thing about dynamic balance, the effects of which show up at higher speeds. Also, modern tires are usually marked for match mounting. This came about when tire pressures were raised to improve gas mileage, which made them ride rougher. Tires do not have a constant spring rate as you roll them. To compensate for that and make the ride smoother, the center hole in wheels are placed slightly off center (generally towards the valve hole) so that the stiffer part of the tire can be matched up with the low point on the wheel. A pound of force variation in a tire can be compensated by a .001" offset in the center hole of a wheel.

My 656 does not have any safety lock out switches. No seat switch, neutral switch, brake interlock switch, or anything like that. Believe ot or not, after all the trouble that little Tecumseh caused me, it starts and runs perfect. Sometimes too perfect. When it's warm, it will start with barely a bump of the key. More than once I have almost ran into one of our vehicles when I start it in the driveway. So, I installed a momentary contact switch between the ignition switch, and the solenoid, activated by pushing the brake pedal. I know, all I have to do is put it in neutral, problem solved, but.....I have 3 tractors in the garage I move out each morning, weather permitting. (Neighbors just love me a 4:30 AM) and sometimes it's hard for an old guy to remember just which tractor he is on.There is fish paper betwen the switch and battery hold plate. I need to find some small wire loom. As a side note, with the mess I have in here today, you would have thought I completed a lot of things, but I didn't. One of those days where everything had to be done twice, at least. I hate those days.
