7 pointsHad some adventures putting together a transmission for/with @OldWorkHorse Steve today. We were rebuilding one good 3 speed from two transmissions that both needed different things. Transferred some bearings and added new seals. The adventures part was when we went to install the 11/44 gear. A PO with a welder and not quite enough machining experience had done a repair on the casting around the bearing that holds that gear. It looked good to both of us from the plain eye and felt "ok" ish. After installing the hoobie doobie balls and a couple other gears we discovered that the bearing was almost round. Well. @#$/&#(@). Fine then. So we commenced to cleaning up the other half a transmission and removed/reinstalled the bearings. Again. Steve has a new bearing installer. Wicked handy tool!!! Well we got the whole thing put together despite ourselves and off he went with a decent complete 3 speed.

5 pointsYesterday was about 55 deg. in upstate NY,so I figured it was time to put the Winter Mahindra emax25 with 56 in snowblower to bed and wake up the Summer Mahindra model 2638.Hope I didn't jump the gun here.No snow forecast and warm temps predicted for at least a week. Also woke up my 2 main Wheel Horse mowing tractors .My 312-8 with rear discharge deck and my C-175 with side discharge deck.My C-161 failed to start even with the jump box.I think the started is shot.Work on that another day.Gonna enjoy the warm temps. It's been a real long winter.

5 pointsThe wheels were quite crusty so took them all off, cleaned/scrubbed, sanded, masked and hit them with Rustoleum "Almond" One of the vertical stanchions of the hitch with bent out a bit so straightened it out with a giant pair of channel locks, sanded and hit it with Rustoleum "Regal Red". The big pin was rusty and missing a clip too so wire-wheeled it, added a C- clip and greased.

5 points@elcamino/wheelhorse was hungry and so mad at me cause I couldn't find the BBQ joint he wanted to throw a cannon ball in my ize!

5 pointsThe fact that I always come home from tractor shows, hunting trips, or work projects is enough of a treat for Mrs. K. And we don't wait for holidays to buy gifts for each other. Every day is a holiday so if we want or need something, we buy it. let's see...... it's worked for over 58 years.

4 points@ebinmaine @OldWorkHorse good to see you both got your hoodie doobies after such a labor intensive day! @stevasaurus would be proud of ya’s!
-
4 pointsUntil proper spacers are obtained I had some lockable collars so put them on the shaft to hold it in place. Also put a washer just behind each clip to further minimize side to side. Will have to put the hitch in the vice to get the verticals perfectly straight!
-
4 pointsToday @ebinmaine and I cannibalized 2 broken transmissions to make 1 working transmissions for the 1257H project!
-
4 pointsYou can see the spacers in this pic... any small pipe cut to size will do...

4 pointsYes, she had the record for fastest lap in a van. She was overtaking porches and big bikes. She had kahunas that lady. She could wring the maximum out of anything with a motor. A friend of mine was driven round the ring by her on a track day, scared him witless lol.

4 pointsSpent the day finishing up hook ups on the 12 horse. Should have it running tomorrow
-
3 pointsWon't that be a lot of strain on the tractor frame? All I've seen had a sub frame. Just wondering... Richard types faster than me
-
3 pointsYou need a substantial sub-frame that will transfer the weight and forces to your axles. Bolting the crossmember to the frame will result in a bent frame. I will take some pictures of the subframe on my GT-14 tomorrow and post them.

3 pointsFumes from engine stacks must depend on the engine. My Predator is my shortest stack and I never get fumes from it. The 7hp Kohler on the Lawn Ranger is similar in height but it fumigates me any time it’s running.

3 pointsWheel horse didn't make the wheels they bought them. Doubt if they much cared if a shipment came in with big holes. Cheaper/easier to buy a few big valve than to reject the shipment probably have to pay freight and wait for replacements.

3 pointsWhen I was about 7 or 9 in the late 70s I had a Hess tanker truck. Mine was flattened when I left it in the driveway and I've wanted another ever since. Recently I found that same type tanker online. 1977. Has a couple condition minor issues. Missing mirrors and don't know (or care) if the lights work. While searching for that I also found a 1975 Hess box trailer truck. Never knew those were made. I like the grille/nose better on the older one. I may make up a diorama to display them.

3 pointsAny quality two stroke oil should be fine. Yamalube has an excellent reputation. I actually haven't run Yamalube or Kawalube. I race karts and have a run mostly castor based oils in a lot of my engines. Am currently running a CR250 motor on the kart and went with Klotz Super-Techniplate which is a synthetic-castor blend. For just playtime, I'd recommend a synthetic as castor oils need to be used immediately after opening as it has an affinity for water and will come out of solution.
-
3 pointsI mix my leftover race gas mix 50:50 with straight gas to burn up the old mixed fuel. Smells really good mowing with more than a hint of race gas and no smoke. I run Klotz super techniplate oil which is a mix of synthetic and castor. Plus the wife likes the smell too.

3 pointsI've had pretty good luck with mine.I only use it for snow blowing. It came with a front end loader.I've never had it on the tractor. Can't beat the heated cab.Wouldn't want to use the tractor in hot weather though. You'd have to remove the doors. It gets like an oven with that mostly glass cab.The 2638 has air and heat.Gotta love that too. When I was looking at new tractors,I checked out Kioti.Just about the same as Mahindra.Couldn't afford Kubota or John Deere.I didn't need a gold plated tractor.A friend asked me about how a Mahindra holds its value.I told him it didn't matter.I'm almost 68 yrs old and hopefully these are the last new tractors I'll ever buy. What they're worth in yrs to come and I'm gone,it will be someone elses concern what they're worth.

3 pointsPond Ride Away Senior. Cannibalize the junk yard and build a legendary empire!
-
3 pointsWell, I managed to snag my "dream horse" -- a 520H, with a 48" deck and a 2-stage snowthrower, plus a front blade -- right off when I first went looking for a Wheel Horse a few years ago. Not a beauty queen (at least not yet) but everything I wanted in a worker. If I ever have room to add another to the stable, though, it would probably be a C-series from the early or mid 1970s, right before the dash tower was modernized. I grew up and went to school around South Bend, and Chandler's Service (the major Wheel Horse dealer, located just walking distance away from where the Ponds build the first Horses) supplied a couple of Wheel Horses to my school for groundskeeping tasks. I always remembered them, and wouldn't mind having one...
-
3 pointsI use Castrols fully synthetic 2 stroke oil at end of season on often used machines, and always in machines that just sit a long time between use. It stabilize the fuel very very well. I have not had a single carb issue since I started using it. Buy the right stuff, and there is zero smoke, smell or fouling. Only thing I can imagine it also does, is lube the engine a bit more. That newer was a bad thing though........... But why don't you just buy some chemicals in a can and mix in instead? you might ask. Well, I can use something that surely wont harm the engine in any way, perhaps even just help it a little instead, or I can try my luck with some jug of chemical miracles............. I know what I favor Just my and experience, over the last 4 years and a lot of machines that get stored for many months before next fire up.

2 points753 gets my vote. Steve's idea is excellent. .. @Achto and I took custody of a tractor that was being passed off as a 854 but low and behold he found a 753 tag hiding behind belt guard paint. Good eye on the green paint Rusty. Anyone one know if a JD might have that style air cleaner and that ig. coil location? If so that might nail it down as a repo. Also did JD's have the regulator not mounted on the SG like horses? The starter button holes and key switch is correct for a 753. This is where the reg. and coil should be. Also correct air cleaner.
