Put the Ags back on the Lawn Ranger. Turfs and chains for winter but the ice is hopefully gone. Finished the engine swap on one of my winter horses.. Engine ran OK but leaked from lots of places. Had another K301 I picked up from 12Horse Kohler here a couple years ago. Air shroud was rusted out but opened the engine and she was in great shape. Ball honed the cylinder and put in new STD rings, still with in end gap spec. Runs nice in her new home and no drips!!

The calendar here says it’s the first day of spring! We’re going to celebrate with a tractor ride in the field! I told Rylee that I’d like some help getting the tractor rides ready, she whispered ( @SylvanLakeWH you’re gonna love this!) “can I ride the WHRat?” Seems I might have lost this one!

Loaded the plow tractor I made for my son. He's coming to pick it up today.

For me the 953 has the greatest eye appeal. they are a miniature version of the tractors I grew up on. I have converted one of mine to a row crop tractor with a three point hitch. Now I have to decide what implement to add.

It’s not a Kohler but it is a 16 hp black hood. In the late 70s Kohler was having quality issues so Wheel Horse sourced Briggs & Stratton to fill the bill until the issues were straightened out and that’s how you ended up with a Briggs under the hood. It’s not for sale because it was my dad‘s but it is a great tractor. He used it for mowing and pushing snow for years and has never had a thing done to it except for regular maintenance and a metal seat pan once the original cracked. I like it because it was my dad‘s but I also like the transformer like looked and it has.

Got the front bumper/hitch done on the 1257H today but still need to weld sum reinforcements to the corners but need thicker sheet steel for that. So another day.

Nice shout out for the Black Hoods! I love my C 105. Dream ...? Already have it... but, if I won the lottery and “needed” another ... I guess a NOS 420 LSE... just to put in the living room... Here’s mine:

Ended the day by mocking up some exhaust. Bits and pieces laying around the shop. I think it will do just fine.

Just mounted the front tires on gravely wheels and hubs on Hiram.

No thanks, I know no harm was intended but thanks to AA and faith in God I have kept away from that for thirty six years.

Worked on the 1257Heavy project today, put couple exhaust tabs on for support and started building a front bumper! Coming along slowly but nicely!

Lined up my 20 gallons of washer fluid. 11 are pinkish and 9 purple. Both Wally World and both -25. Whatever. Right rear got pink. Gravity feed from a 4" PVC end cap and tap. I used a trailer strap to squeeze out air and released it. Sucked it all in. 71/2 gallons - about 45 minutes. The left had a tube so I found out something new today. Figured it would be tougher but, no. Took less time and one less gallon. At 8 lbs/gallon, the old 516 will stick to the downhills nicely now and the Eaton doesn't seem to mind. Still wheelies.

@JCM no mud in the field today!

There absolutely is a 16HP Kohler powered Black Hood! I've had this one since I was eleven years old; twenty-six years later and still going strong. The only addition I would make is hydraulics and power steering.

We should make a goal for this weekend to get this thread to 400 pages, no less! I bought out 3 Walmarts in 3 towns and am ready to pump winter washer fluid into the 516. It'll be a glorious Saturday.

A clean C-160 auto. I've been keeping an eye out for the last month or so. By April 9th I'm supposed to get a halfway sizeable check from the insurance company, and I told my wife that's the only thing I want out of it 😆 Doesn't HAVE to be this nice, but as long as we're dreaming...

I've been married 55 years. The trick is to buy something nice for your wife first, then go buy the tractor. Jim

I have enough projects around here to keep me going for a long time. I certainly don't need anything else right now, and my space is becoming very limited. That being said....... It doesn't mean I would not buy another one if the right opportunity presented itself. I bought my first In October of last year, I don't recall seeing more than a handful of them before that. I don't know a lot about them. I don't know which is the rarest, the most desirable, or the most valuable, but I do know what I like. If a 16HP Wheel Horse with a Kohler became available near, me at a decent price, I don't think I could pass it up. Same thing with a black hood, and I'm not even sure what that is, but I have seen pics, and read posts about them, and they just look nice. I don't know if there is such a thing as a 16HP Black Hood, but if there is, that would be the ultimate. I would make the space, or simply get out my saw and hammer and create some space. " Dam the credit cards full speed ahead." Do you have a "Dream Horse?"

Finished up the rear tires for the 310-8, 6 gallons per tire. Almost ready for the tiller.

got the Zack Kerber solid motor mounts to bypass the rubber system which I am not a fan of. A little tricky getting the holes to line up but a tire iron helped. The shroud had to come off Since the shroud is off might as well take the head off, Ive got a gasket. Lets see if she holds any secrets... Burning some oil, huh? Looks like someone has been here before (to be expected on a 40yr old machine I suppose). No major scratches or gauges though they didn't stamp OEM pistons like this in 1980 did they?

I decided to have a go at making an ornament from scratch out of aluminum, aluminium, amulinimum. Whatever... Started out with a biggish piece so I could grip it on the milling machine. Machined the taper on both sides, then milled the angled faces, then did a lot of abrasive belt work to blend and polish. Looks pretty decent scale wise and im happy overall for a mornings work.

Tractor ride? Success! Found some trash in the field along the way and used one of my deer stands as a delay picture taker spot for a family portrait!

Mine is 5 and 3/4 inches long, 5/16 wide and an inch tall. Its a complex shape of angles and curves to get it looking right. Might be bigger than the original but it does seem to look ok.

Yep! Whoever got those measurements did a great job!if im not mistaken, that would be ornament number 000000001(thinking ahead to 999 million) and the first official on tractor pic!

Do you guys have linoleum over there? Used to be a popular floor covering, it was made in Glasgow Scotland. An area not known for its ability in the English language. They say it was not a good seller in Scotland because of this.. Scot goes into carpet shop; " I'd like a rome of melonium, please, a loll of renolium, a moan of remolinum, oh bugger it, give me a roll of carpet!"

I am not sure how wise that is. Unless one is a gluten for punishment of course. I think the idea is to make her forget what she is mad at quickly and not give her a lifetime reminder of it. Just a thought from a successfully married man of over 30 years.
