8 pointsI think we should have a forum topic dedicated to Bone Head Moves! Everybody makes them. Whether working on our tractors, our house, driving, whatever. Might as well share them and give others a laugh, that might be have a sour day. Might pick them up for a bit. Here is my "Bone Head Move" for the day. I have been waiting on parts for another Lawn Boy motor. They arrived yesterday. After disassembling the K-181, and running some errands, I decided to finish the rebuild on it. Got it all back together, mounted it on my temporary stand, hooked a fuel tank, and started cranking. Nope Won't go. This is unusual for me as I don't often have troubles after a rebuild. Checked for spark, got spark. Try with a little starting fluid, pops right off. Hmmm....not getting gas. Loosen the carb bowl a bit, just to make sure it's getting there from the tank. Yep, I can see it running out on the floor. I can see it, but I can't smell it. This motor happens to be from 1964. It runs on 16-1 gas/oil ratio, rather than 32-1 of newer mowers. . I don't have many of these, so I just have a little gas mixed up in a milk jug, for these older motors. There in lies the problem. I also have some Purple Power cleaner and water mixed up in a milk jug for my sonic cleaner. Ya know what? That stuff won't burn. And you can take THAT to the bank! Purple Power and water look remarkably like gas and Lawn Boy oil mixed together. After cleaning everything thoroughly, and replacing fuel filter, it runs just fine. A guy my age should not make Bone Head Moves like this, but it happens all too often. Share your Bone Head Move. Someone might need a .

8 pointsYesterday, it was almost 70 F outside. I dusted off the lawn chair, faced it toward the Sun, set up a folding tray with a pitcher of Margarita's and spent the afternoon Felicitated. Not necessarily because of the Margarita's but because it Felicitated my heart to watch my wife pick up all of HER dog's landmines from the Winter. BTW, my lawnmowing 702 felt Felicitated also.

7 pointsI had a discussion with Rylee this morning about pollution’s effects on the subject of global warming. That helped me decide to use the 6-1/2 horse engine to go gather some field trash over the 7 horse engine.

7 pointsI did some seat switching today. I wasn’t happy with the seat that came on my charger 12 I recently acquired. The seat on the lawn Ranger that I bought from Denny Clarke @dclarkewas in like new condition so I decided to put it on the charger. I had all the components to build an older style seat in a box on my shelf so I put it together and installed it on the Ranger. I like the look of the Ranger seat bolted right to the seat pan but it’s much more comfortable with the spring base Denny installed so I left it like that.

6 pointsOr when you are trying to get the generator started, and you are pulling your guts out............ then the wife walks by and asks what is the little red switch for? You don't know how bad I wanted to say that is the ejection button!
-
6 pointsI got drills that wobble like that but it ain't for drilling square holes......most from operator error!
-
6 pointsThere's better ways including broaches but around here that task usually gets a drill and then a triangular file. More than two gets old quickly.

5 pointsSome of you such as @ebinmaine had requested a video of my adze being used. Did it using it for a raised panel done the traditional way here. Had to split it into a few videos since I have no camera man to follow me around. This is a special adze called enxo, which is only seen where I am from and it really originated from shipwrights. it is still today a tool found in many old carpenters' tool boxes and it is extremely useful. Once mastered one can take thin shavings such as with a plane or large amounts of wood such as when roughing something up as I do for the raised panels. One can also do curved work with it.

5 pointsDeffenetly square drill bits. I mean if round ones cut round holes, square ones got to cut square holes right?

5 pointsI'd say my most recent bonehead move would be the last time I started our nearly new Ariens snowblower. I've been known more times than I would care to admit to become 38% past flusticated after I realize that I did not turn the gas on. Well, I checked the ignition switch. I checked the gas coming in. I pressed the primer bulb recommended amount of times. Pulled on the rope. A few times. after about the third pull I began to become suspicious that I was doing something stupid but of course it's the machines fault. NOT MINE. So I pressed the primer bulb more. I double checked that I was in the correct position for choke. I was. I moved the throttle back and forth to be sure that it was engaging. It was. Pulled a few more times. Cough. Cough cough. Die. So I pressed the primer bulb more. And then I went back and double checked my triple checks which I had already quadruple checked. And I pulled on it a few more times. run run run dum dum dum dum down down. Die. $#@_&-/@#)$&(_$# You might say that I was beginning to become headed towards that point of flustication because I had put good money into this thing not too long ago and it was failing to start and obviously that's the machines fault. NOT MINE. What did we learn from this? It may have possibly been my fault that I had it on low idle and not high speed.

5 pointsThat is the place to check... If the dipstick is dry I wouldn't run the tractor. Stick a long screw driver down to find the fluid. Check the color on a clean paper towel Red use Dex/Merc ATF tan use 10w-30 motor oil. If it is that low I would change the oil and filter (Wix 51410)

5 pointsMy very good friend Nick Zoteck who at onetime owned an auto wrecker in Edmonton, me and another bud were handling the scrap metal from a large plant renovation and expansion we were getting full length metal trusses and I-beams and did not want it to go to the steel mill. Nick was the first cold contact when I told him what we had said he would take it all, when the first semi load arrived and we unloaded and payment was made immediately, said he would take more if we had it. Second load arrived and unloaded, said we would have to wait for payment, I told him we loaded it the first time and we can do it again, he points to the bottom desk drawer says have a drink and I'll be back in an hour. That was over forty years ago and we have been friends ever since and have had a few joint ventures that worked out well for both. Thia is Nicks Shuswap Lake property, he came out to BC for one of our joint ventures and purchased this BC property on his return trip to Edmonton. I'm here to help move some junk around.

5 pointsMy father sitting next to Ada Fox this is her 104th birthday as you can see their acting like a pair of teenagers. She lived to 108 and outlived my father.

4 pointsIf this is for a scrapper blade for a snow blade, I went with Stove Bolts from ACE Hardware. As much head as a carriage bolt and do not need a square hole. They are slotted screw and you can get them in 1/2 and 3/4" if you want.

4 pointsUsually during a normal Winter I don't get the chance to hand wash and wax the truck in the driveway and go to the do it yourself car wash because of the cap, racks and pipe box cannot use the drive through. The weather today was welcomed and took advantage to clean up the 2013 Chevy 2500 HD. Snow piles still showing their presence.

4 pointsSpeaking of mixing up plastic jugs and substances looking the same... Empty windshield washer bottles come in handy for making up 50/50 mix of DexCool antifreeze. They also come in handy as 'portable urinals' for the garage. Guess what I did MORE THAN one time? (you don't lose points if you guess wrong! In fact, you can't guess wrong!) BUT... I have never once pizzed directly into the radiator!

4 pointsAfter i have my plans finalized how to enlarge the Snowblower for the 656, i do today a little work on the Turbine’s bearing housing. The Turbine have allready a Bearing but it was previously made as a Front Attachment. So i decide to rework it and improve that for a Beltdrive system with a second bearing to be more stable even on a stronger Beltspan. To do that, i reactivated my 15year old little Lathe. She‘s just a tiny little one, but works so far after several improvements i have done to her. I begin with planing firstly the ends and after that i machined a second Bearing holder in it. Because the original bearing has few felt ripples, so i hammer it off and ordered 2 new bearings and decide to rework both sides, that the bearings will fit snug without too much pressure force. Before the bearing snaps hardly out and needs few hard hammer hits to become loose. That must be changed. Now it fits without too much force, tightener pressure with the fingers is enough, maybe a gently hammer tap will be needed, but they will now slide in with nearly no force. The opposite side with its new Bearingmount Where also the bearing fit‘s snug with a little more pressure than a gently finger pressure. Prewarming with the induction heater and they will flip easy in. To release the bearings against any span to the housing, i built a bushing for the inside 0,05 over. they should be fit between the Fan Shaft the both bearing inner‘s and the bushings and to the Belt pulley, so they can be tight mounted. My plan is to stabilize the bearings together even from too much side torque on a higher beltspan. New Bearings are ordered, hopefully they came quick.

4 pointsHe had a stroke awhile back Dennis and is probably still trying to recover. I could really use a 701 dash so let us know if you succeed in getting ahold of him. Maybe we can cajole Lowell into taking up Glen's work if he no longer does. Ahem @wheelhorseman.....

3 pointsThere is just sooo much to choose from. Lets see, about 6yrs ago I answered an add from some in Princeton WI looking for an idle pulley for a Suburban. Then a couple years later that and I fed beer to some who was wearing shorts & work boots, after he wandered into our camp at the big show. Naw! Those were actually both good events. Don't you worry, I'll narrow down some thing for real. Might have to sleep on it in order to pick the right one.

3 pointsAt the end of daylight-savings time last fall I set all the clocks ahead one hour. Since everything was shut down it didn't make much difference at the time. Guess I was practicing for this coming weekend.

3 pointsEver seen a Reuleaux drill bit? REALLY Funky piece of equipment. Made a pair of Reuleaux ttriangleson the lathe as a machining exercise, they are so clever. A shape that is not a circle but has a constant diameter.

3 pointsJust a small portion of this rock was above ground, if you look closely you'll see an anchor my dad had drilled the hole to inset as a tail hold for a 75 ton stump puller that he had used to pull over a couple of large cotton woods. The tractor is a Gibson Model M, twin cylinder Wisconsin when he could no longer crank start the engine I installed an electric starter from parts from air cooled Volkswagen and Toyota. The VW flywheel and ring gear are integral using the large La Blonde machined the center to shrink fit onto the Wisconsin flywheel, the VW starter was the right rotation but does not use a nose cone as it turned out the Japanese used on Toyota copied the German Bosch, just had to bore it out for a larger bushing to fit the armature. What he is doing here is digging the hole deeper, then he undermines the rock to let it fall into the hole.
