No, not a green tractor. Cleaning out some old college drawers I found this. The NEW green calculator.......no wires, no batteries, no chargers, no fossil fuels. It does require an operator with two hands and a brain.

I was sitting in a parking lot waiting to get my vaccination when I heard about his passing. Though it was not a shock, it was still sad and like losing a close friend. After I finished up getting my shot, I drove to the only remaining Gino's Restaurant (Gino Marchetti, Baltimore Colts 1953-1966) and as I was driving, I passed the parking lot where I was sitting, eating my lunch in 1989 and first heard Rush on the radio. I have listened to him every day (if possible) since. I will really miss him. RIP RUSH

My wife didn't like listening to Rush Limbaugh at first because he was so forceful in his delivery. Once she got over that and concentrated on the content of his message she began to realize that being the lone conservative voice in a liberal sea of voices required him to be a bit over the top. Rush Limbaugh was the founding father of conservative talk radio and I feel we all have benefited from his efforts. We will miss you Rush!

Three inches down and snowing about 1"/hr. 22F and slight NE wind. Forecast is 8", but these conditions usually bring more. Plow pictures to follow this afternoon.

So, is it solar? Wind? What app runs it? I have the one my 93 year old Dad used in college / work... mechanical engineer... showed the kids a few times when they were younger... they thought it was hilarious... 75 years old and still works perfectly... say that about our “smart” phones, computers, calculators etc...

My sons sail boat looks like it's waiting to go ice sailing. For the last 2 days the lake channel behind my house has had a layer of ice forming on it. Last night we had some freezing rain/sleet that added to it. I've been here 25 years. We had a deep freeze event back in about 2011 where the channel froze a little, but no snow on the ground. Certainly a rare event around here. We've had power with no rolling blackouts for about 24hours. From what I hear on the news the rolling blackouts have lessened up significantly, but are still occurring in areas where major transmission lines or substations have problems.

Just finished 3 hours of good seat time. The snow stopped around noon but it continued to drop sleet and freezing rain. I started plowing at 2PM using the 312H to clear the basement entrance then quickly got in the 520H and cleared 4 driveways and the stone road. I hated to get out of the warm cab , but I did to get a couple pics.

A little history of my experience with slide rules. Of course I was required to learn to use one in my early days at WVU as a mech. eng. student, thinking I would never use it again. How wrong I was. When I joined Allis Chalmers Hydro turbine in 1964 as a hydro turbine test technician , I was required to collect the test data in real live time and make the calculations and plot the data. A single test point consisted of a 30 second manual reading of head pressure, flow RPM, and torque. The test stand operators collected this data and wrote it on a blackboard in my view. Using a table mounted 24" slide rule with three slides, I could convert the data to the correct eng. units, calculate the brake HP, the water HP, and the efficiency, and plot this data on a graph. All within the 30 second time period while the next data point point was being collected. Not boasting, well maybe, but after doing this for 5 years I was pretty good at it. I still had most of my brain cells in the 60s. Around 1970 we purchased a Wang Laboratories 700 electronic calculator, and began to build the electronic data collection system that is used today. Per Mr. Paul Harvey...."and now you know the rest of the story".

My family has a place on the Brazos river and it's frozen over as far as you can see.. We've never seen that before. I'm not about to go try to walk on it though Power had been rolling since Monday morning. Last night at about 10:30 the power came on and I haven't had to fire the generator up since. Hopefully it stays this way! I will be installing a transfer switch when this is all over so i can easily switch back and forth.. this business of having to go outside and move cords around every time the power went on/off got old really quick. I'd been running the 15kw portable gen to power some things in the house as well as the 1500w space heater in the well house. Once I had the house warm enough that the fireplace would pretty well keep it up while the power was out, I switched over to this little Montgomery Ward 1800w generator to run the space heater. I've had it for quite a while and almost forgot i had it stashed away. Gassed it up and it started on the second pull and worked like a champ! Sips fuel compared to the big gen. Stay warm!

@MichiganCO @Jeff-C175 One of the things I learned many moons ago that I don't see people doing very often is replacing the set screws after two or three uses. They don't have a lot of contact area and wear out after they're tightened just a few times. Another trick with those I picked up over the years is to tighten it and loosen it at least three times on the first usage. If you do that with a closed end wrench and don't take it off of the nut you'll see that it changes clock position and gets a little tighter. Also, don't get overly ambitious on the jam nut because that will pull the set screw out. @Greentored A few posts back you said something about hoping that your wheels would stay on with just the lug nuts and no holding by the wheel and the hub in the center hole. I believe the center hub is there only to line up the wheel as it's being installed and shouldn't have anything to do with keeping it in place once the lug nuts are properly torqued. After everything is all properly tightened up you'll notice that there's actually a space in there between the center of the wheel and that hub.

I listened to him for many years...he was definitely a voice crying out in the wilderness.

Was out a couple hours myself. Came back in and my grandson was there....I said oh Brendan is here......wife said; his mom dropped him off while you we plowing the neighborhood! Hey what can I say it was going good, I used to plow for booze, now I plow for eggs. I did end up with some nice large brown ones! Liver is good, cholesterol is up a tad.

That is the biggest shortcoming of this general conversation thread. The information is not very searchable and there tends to be a new topic entered in the midst of relevant answers to a question. That being said, you can't knock the success of this thread.

Started snowing here about 6AM and already nearly 4" down. Reports are that it will turn to sleet/rain later today. Going to wait for a while and see what happens. I'll fire up the machines when it gets to around 6" and make a 'first pass' I guess.

Sleeting like crazy here, IDK whether to plow/blow now or wait, tried heading to work this morning and 3-4 semi crashes closed the interstates down so I turned around and came back home. 20210218_090234.mp4

We’re not driving on the highway... most of the time. I have a feeling the lug nuts or bolts will do a dandy job holding the wheel on! Side note, reading about LS swaps with older GM transmissions. Only 5 of the 6 bell housing bolts (10mm thread) fit, some people only run the side 4 for some reason... but on a 12” wide (-ish) bell housing, those 4 bolts can hold 4 digit horse power ratings together. I bet 5 lugs on a GT is excessive.

No pics today I waited until 4 thinking there was a second round coming, also figured cold temps powder snow, it was under the sleet, and I had already changed the eMax back to the blower its did fine just ran tractor 3rd Lo range, and what it didn't pick up the rear blade and 520H plow rig did.

Starting to get to the final shape.

I scraped the snow off the roof, now I just need a tiny little WH to clear the porch. The tinier the tractor the longer the seat time!

Thanks for the compliments lads. Yes, a lot of work spread over about 3 years. Half thinking time, half doing. Decals added since that photo was taken and excuse my hair and expression. Usually look worse than that.

I run the cheapest possible gear oil around 80 or 90 weight.

I'm outt.

It didn't take much to get it running. Clean carb, new oil, spark plug and gas. Runs really smooth, no knocking.

I took a gander across the field today looking for deer life. The only tracks I found were from rabbits and mice. And a man. The good thing about snow being so cold... it doesn’t stick on you when you’re knee deep in it!

About 4-5 " down here, but it has stopped for the moment. No school or work so the driveways are full of vehicles. Think I'll wait awhile to let the neighbors clear off their cars before I start to plow their drives

That is a fact! Back when I was destroying one trans per summer (TH400) in big orange, I did another overhaul and swapped converter companies, got it all wrapped up, went to install, and noticed a 4" long crack in the bellhousing, got ticked off and threw it together anyhow. That was in 2001 and she's still going, including probably 500 dragstrip passes, many on slicks and lifting the tires. Cant say its not on my mind ha, but its been 20 years, im not messing with it.

Caught up on 4 pages of this thread... A couple days back a buddy needed a piece of sheet metal from the extras pile. While there, I showed him the Senior. Was pretty disappointed that in 1 digit temps, it still took 2 pulls to fire up.

This is really interesting and at the same time funny to me since I do something similar here. Scattered through the property far from each other and the house I have three sheds and the firewood pile. I always need access to all specially the firewood. The first time I drive my Electro backwards dragging the plow on snow to just compact it and create the "roads" and after that and on subsequent snow falls I drag a big lawn roller with tractor to just compact snow and keep it level. I have done this for years and it works really well giving me constant access to all areas.

The easy pusher was a C145 1982 I changed the unit out and it was good to go. Transaxle was like new. Rebuilding, I figure the cost would be way more than finding a donor. I know there is a rebuild manual on this site. Never really checked on the parts. Out of the 6 machines I have had, only that one was an issue. When it got hot, it slowed down and lost torque. I even put some 40w oil in it and that didn't work. One thing I am doing now is I switched to IH high trans fluid. The additive package is more in line with the application. It is a 10w30 oil. The two machines that are switched are way smoother and don't need to warm up as much to get the charge pressure going.

I completely agree! But I suppose for clearing off sidewalks one pass is enough. I'm still surprised that there's no wheel weights. I just tested the roller chains and they are REMARKABLE!
