I guess I'm just an old guy, but what is a SWMBO? Never mind. I had to look it up in "Text Talk for Dummies"

My next-door neighbor who just sold his house. For a huge amount of money..... anyway he called me up Tuesday and told me that he wants to give me the gravely walk behind mower that he has had for many years. He said he's giving it to me for being such a good neighbor! This has been kept in the shed for the past 20 years because he has someone mow his grass for him. I'm picking it up on Sunday with the help from a friend. It will have to be in tow which is no problem for my 414-8. it has a Kohler K1 81 on it the gas tank is about 3 gallons which will run forever with that motor. Most all paint is intact on it and the decals are all there. as soon as I get it I'll post some pictures. This thing is a true American beast! Pulled it home this morning and what an easy pull that was! Did a pressure wash on it and pulled it in the shop!

That's just about right as long as you're sure that the item being lubricated is fully surrounded with grease. A good example is the front axle on these tractors. If you don't jack the front end up so that the tension is relieved then there isn't as much grease getting to the top of the pin. A very important part that a lot of us don't do, including myself, is to wipe off the excess so it doesn't attract more dust or dirt.

I use some sort of pipe dope on all my npt threads large or small. I have 6 or 7 different types on loan from work. Salesmen drop off sample bottles and some how they find their way in my lunch bucket... In a perfect world with perfect threads might not be needed but we all know about a perfect world. All of my install manuals and the mechanical engineering standards say leave the first two threads bare to keep this from happening. My personal fav..... Highside Chemicals · Leak Lock

Rylee’s full of creative names. Seems Bob and Jeff are her go-to for random things. She has a giant hamster and a 401, both called Fat Bob. I think the only thing left for her to round out a trifecta is...

So my sister wanted this old girl out of her garage. Threw on a new carb, solenoid and tire. Will work on the mower deck in the future. My question for now is, if there a way to adjust the plowing height of the plow? Right now in the up position the lowest height is roughly 5 inches off the ground. Are these plow made to set on the ground for plowing and/or could I attach small shoe to prevent digging in? Also, there is a lot of play in the clutch pedal...is there any adjustment to return the pedal to it's disengaged position? Thank you!

Needed to get some firewood outta the shed so I fired up the Cinnamon Horse C160 and pushed the snow back. Still amazes me how much this thing will push. I went into a bank that was quite solid and broke into 3 pieces. Pushed all 3 and much much more up to the left of the shed. And here's a bonus shot of me pulling a pulk sled fulla firewood.

This is a fun topic. I tell people that guys are like dogs and girls are like cats. some are cuddly some are mean and the rest tolerate us. I gave up being a stubborn dog and now i try to please my kitten. Happy wife , happy life.

Just my opinion. Anyone who leaves their tractor set outside for any length of time isn't going to be buying this stuff anyway....

The first thing I did when I got it home was join this site. I knew the members would be there to offer their experience. My sister has the manual....somewhere, lol. And a google search was how I found this site...lucky me!

As requested.... It's about 99% original. I have the other drift cutter for the blower, just need to get a few bolts. A few parts replaced over the years, but even the tires are from 1976. The belt for the blower, the mower deck (replaced in the early 90's) and the headlights (replaced those with a pair of LED bulbs. It literally sat in my parents garage for 20+ years. I changed the battery, put gas in the tank, primed the carb and it started right up. Starts within seconds every time I need it. They just don't built them like that anymore.

Pete, Kevin has an xi series tractor here, NO PTO to grease its electric you gotta pay attention to the "details", I agree with proper lubrication but plain ole chassis grease will work as long as its done at the proper intervals, and amounts TOO much grease is just as bad if not worse than none, excess oil/grease attract dirt which can turn into a "grinder", or like the hydro tractors pack up around the pumps bad, my father actually "over greased" the bearings on his CC mower deck with "JD Dozer" grease wore 2 of 3 brand new spindles out in 3-4 years instead of 3-5 pumps every other week ,it was 3-5 pumps right before each mowing session.

Was trying to think of a gift for my dad. He's a retired mechanic (retired this past year) and has everything he could ever need. He is one of those people who just goes and buys something if he needs it and always gives the "I don't know" shrug when you ask him what he wants for birthdays / Christmas. One thing I thought of to buy him (though a bit pricey) would be a nice, used, vintage "Swench" tool. They are not very common from what I can find, and even the-bay has only a small handful. Was just curious who has one on here, and what you think of it.

FOUND IT! The continuing saga of the automobile I shouldn't be dumping so much money into: I figure that little 'injector worm' was stuck under the solenoid pintle causing WAY too much gas into that cylinder causing the dead miss. It worked it's way through and became a 'pending code' after about 15 minutes of being pushed at 55 PSI. No idea what it is... a 'shaving' of something! Whatever it is, it's SMALL! you can see the other end poking out of the hole to the left, it's sorta 'looped' through. Needed my super magnifier macro lens to see it! I should add that the spark plugs which I did NOT pull the last time being that they had less than 30K miles on them, and were double platinum, were in fact completely trashed. Makes me wonder if the previous mechanics did even change them as they said they did. Further evidenced by the fact that the plugs were not torqued to 150 lb-ft and the threads were not stripped! The gap is supposed to be .060" and on all of them it was worn open to greater than .070". Several of them the platinum 'button' on the ground electrode was completely eroded away and there was a 'crater' in the electrode where the button should have been. Other than that, the color of the plugs was fine. There's NO WAY these plugs could be this worn in under 30K. Double Platinum should be FINE even after 60K miles! So there's a new set of plugs in also.

Along with the new pex and water heater ( @pullstart Aren't you proud of me?) I have closed in a door in the kitchen and built shelves in the doorway for some built in storage. My house a century old and therefore nothing is square or plumb, so you just have to make it close as you can! I put beadboard on the kitchen side of the doorway right over the trim so that left room for 8" shelves on the other side. I am going to put a short bakers rack on the kitchen side and build matching cabinets above. I have painted the beadboard inside and out and just have to caulk the shelves and paint them.

Here is where I am at now. I still have to finish the tensioners. Before I order belts is there anything I should change?
  35. 4 points
Jeff also didn't change out those old dies that were in his pipe threader like his dad told him too and now he's got some bad threads. To make matters worse he dropped that nipple on the floor then run it over with the track chair. Now he really may have some messed up threads but if he uses a good quality pipe dope he'll be ok.

Lmao, that is a good one. I'm trying for 180* of contact for the drive and driven pulleys.
  37. 4 points
I wouldn’t think that matters. The drive pulley is pulling the belt across the driven one. Can’t push rope @prondzy I love that phrase! The more contact patch they both have, the better.
