14 pointsJust got in from plowing last nights snow , about 6 or 8 in. more, we have about 12 or more in. so far. We live in snow country, 4 ski slopes within 30 or so miles. Born and raised here so used too it. Here are some picks of the old girl still going strong, not bad for 42 years of mowing and snow plow duty.Well enjoy your snow fun and always be careful! the roller chain on front tires was the absolute best improvement for plowing snow that I have done! 13 pointsWent out to plow the results of Winter Storm Orlena. We got between 12-16" over night. I'm in the shower before I go out. My wife looks out the window and a woman is walking her Husky and they stop at my driveway in front of the garage. The dog is in the driveway up to it's fanny in snow. I come out of the shower and my wife tells me about the woman and her dog. I hike thru the snow and go over to where the dog was. YES THE DOG TOOK A DUMP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVEWAY!!! AND SHE DIDN'T EVEN COVER IT!!!! I did scoop it up so it wouldn't go thru the blower! (I took a pic because I figured @WHX24 or @stevasaurus would think I was just making this up!)

13 pointsThat stupid thing called 'responsibility' has gotten in the way lately, but I'm still lurking here fellas. Did some cold weather camping with a few buddies, and the new 'B-1 bomber' dragged logs for the fire all weekend. Considering just getting my team back after the 'rona ripped through the shop, this was probably not the best time to camp in 20 degree weather and come home with the 'crud' Still, a good time was had, and in true camping form, we ate like kings and drank like Vikings.

11 pointsAlong with the new pex and water heater ( @pullstart Aren't you proud of me?) I have closed in a door in the kitchen and built shelves in the doorway for some built in storage. My house a century old and therefore nothing is square or plumb, so you just have to make it close as you can! I put beadboard on the kitchen side of the doorway right over the trim so that left room for 8" shelves on the other side. I am going to put a short bakers rack on the kitchen side and build matching cabinets above. I have painted the beadboard inside and out and just have to caulk the shelves and paint them.

10 pointsIs her driveway within snow blower throw distance? Just thinking that you may wish to "spread" the joy back at her...

9 pointsAn ex-workmate had that problem. Same man and dog came past every morning. Dog not on a lead, onto his lawn and did it's business. It was mentioned to the dog owner two or three times, but to no avail. In the end my workmate bagged a weeks supply. Followed man and dog home and emptied bag on the house front door step. From that day on the dog was taken on another route for walkies.

9 pointsThe woods were magical today. The chocolate boys broke trail the whole way. One of them dropped into 2nd position for less than a minute but couldn't stand it and had to get out and explore. About 45 minutes and no other people or tracks.

9 pointsthat’s like the plumbing quote... A Royal Flush beats a Full House every time!

8 pointsDon't know where she lives. Not on my street but most likely a block or 2 away. It will give me something to do this summer. Hop on the bike and ride around looking for a Husky I could feed it some Limburger! Hope it's a house dog!

8 pointsYears ago we were camped at Kentucky Horse Park in a large pop-up camper. Despite a huge dog walk area nearby a "lady" allowed her precious to dump right under my bed end. On the third day we had a just emptied pickle jar with plenty of juice, so the offensive material was put in there, yes pickled dog dung. That fine mixture was shaken and then found its way down the air slots in front of the windshield of a certain Suburban.

8 pointsI'd bag it and look for her to come by again...go out and tell her..."Here, you forgot this the other day."

7 pointsFinally , a plowable snow that got me some seat time. We got five inches Monday night that took me 3 hours to clean up the 5 driveways, stone road, and trails to the wood pile and the back woods. Then another 8inches fell Tuesday night that took another 4 hours to clean up today. It is drifting badly now, so there will be seat time tomorrow. Due to the cold and wind, I mainly used the 520 w/ heated cab and steel chains. The 312 had to plow his way out of his basement stall. All uphill. This is a testament to the traction of the rubber chains. This is on a grass surface and the 12 horse Kohler actually bogged down to the point of stall before the wheels lost traction. That's a 54" blade , 4 link worn rubber chains, and ~ 500 lbs on the rear wheels (including me).

7 pointsI was born and raised in southern Somerset Co. atop the Allegheny Mt. at Wellersburg. Never forget the 1958 storm. I was in high school and school was closed for two weeks. During the two weeks, we all worked for the township opening local roads with shovels. We finally heard a blower coming up the West side of the mountain on Rt 160 but it took two days to finally reach our house just on the East side. The blower backed up and made a passing lane about every mile. The 17 mile ride to high school road was one lane until spring thaw.

7 pointsAll set and ready. Bought my first house in Aug and my parents were holding onto this for me for many years. It's a 1976 C120 they bought new. Since I bought the house, I've been using it for what it was designed for.... work. Everything works good, just some tlc to get it working perfectly. It made short work of the driveway, handled multiple trips out with 7+ inches of snow down. Kinda cool to be able to throw the snow clear across the street.

7 pointsSpent the whole day cleaning snow . Helped my neighbor out with his quarter mile steep driveway. I didn’t know he took some videos and made some funny narrative IMG_5312.mov

6 pointsConsidering Mike's bad back and knees he might squat and not be able to get up fast enough for a quick getaway.
-
6 pointsIt makes some interesting tracks going sideways. It's the only way I could get it out of the garage. It does not like the concrete. That being said it won't like ice either.
-
6 pointsOh what fun 15" of snow last night they were calling for three to five they were a little off on that It was great snow for snow blowing though. Got to love a tall shoot blower.

5 pointsYesterday after the yard was all cleaned up and tractors put away 2 hours later it decided to snow 2 more inches so this morning brought out the 417-8 and cleaned it up. Enjoying the electric lift, so much easier than the manual lift. Even had my better half out giving her a lesson on plowing. By the look on her face when I was explaining the clutch, brake and gear shift I knew then I spoiled her with the 418-A when she was helping with the dump cart hauling leaves this past Fall.

5 pointsWonder if your screw helix is too shallow / short. Just catching the loose top of the gravel and pulling it up rather than pushing the tractor forward. I'm sure the pitch also has something to do with it as well, but I can't say exactly how much. For instance, you have a 1:1 pitch (1 rotation per 1 tank length). If you look at Colin's in the youtube videos, his has what looks like a 4:1 pitch (4 rotations per 1 tank length). Again, not sure how this all plays in as @DennisThornton has already mentioned. Either way, still a fantastic build and has been awesome to follow.

5 pointsA cubic ft of water weighs 62.4 lbs, so a cubic ft of water can support 62.4 lbs. Using the same theory I asked Mr google, and he has a weight of Snow calculator which even lets you vary the type/density of the snow. https://www.inchcalculator.com/snow-weight-calculator/ If my thinking it right...This could help determine the amount of screw surface area it needs. It calculates that a cubic ft of fresh snow weighs 3-4 lbs. So if the tractor weights 700lbs...700 divided by 3.5 snow means you need 200sq ft of screw area to run on fresh snow. It calculates that a cubic ft of packed snow weighs 12-18lbs. So if the tractor weights 700lbs...700 divided by 15 snow means you need 46.7sq ft of screw area to run on packed snow. I'm sure there's more to it than this, but it some thing to think about.

4 pointsI have Read All the way through this post From page 1 to page 32 and I can say I think that this is probably 1 of the most Interesting Builds I have seen in A long time any where. At one point you were talking about weight. I looked again at the wormdrives on the old fordson. That tractor was all cast iron and very heavy and still floated over the snow pretty well. I wondered if you might be to light to get good purchase on the snow. Pounds per square in down pressure on the fordson Versus your built. If you added more weight to it do you think it may help to propel it forward rather than acting like an anger and just digging the snow and gravel out from under you?
-
4 pointsMade the first EVA of the day. The snow is fine and granular. Windy as heck right now. Snowblowing will be a challenge when going North. Perfect weather to grab a 68 Biscayne wagon with Firestone T & C's all the way around a few guys and a case of beer. Drift hopping in the Town of Galen!
-
4 pointsWell it's all done. The paint on the screws is still a bit wet. Other then that just have to add gas. I refrained from plowing my driveway just for the test drive.
-
4 pointsI read that one to quick, I thought it said the door of the outhouse, Iv'e been living to close to the woods I suspect.
-
4 pointsCan't be all tractors all the time Jim, some times ya gotta step away. But I feel your pain on your projects. I have an engine apart for a Simple-City, an engine apart for a Basket Case 444, just inherited the repairs on a WH 1267, & oh yea a Farmall H in a million pieces. What do I have apart that belongs to me?? Nothing!! Good thing that my planned tractor resto for this year should not need a lot of major work.
-
4 pointsI'm boycotting this thread .... just cause I ain't got a dang thing done on a horse in weeks other than fixing minor gliches in the snow machines. Usually by this time of year I'd have a good start on a full blown resto or at least a refresh. Figured I'd get them stupid holidays out of the way and be able to go gung-ho on the multitude of projects I got swirling around in this pumpkin they call a head....but nooooo.... @Achto wants to go fishing, work, honeydo, football games, work... ok thanks for letting me rant

-
4 pointsI vented the belt guard and made a housing that connects to the cab collecting all the heat that is pushed across the rear cylinder. The temp. stays 30- 35 degrees above outside temp.

4 points@D_Mac can agree to the likes of the „ little“ Horses. btw: nice Decal‘s... Love mine also, it showed me it can dealing with snowplow on a light slope upwards without Chains or added Weight. Ok, i have a Brandnew Set of Reartyres and Fronttyres and they feel very Soft on the Rubber. Maybe they will wear fast, but they have dang good grip on Snow. First turn is the slope down, nothing spectacular without Chains, but the second pass is the same slope up it‘s a little stronger than it appears. my 212 Horse stall‘s here on Snowplow with same Snow height without Chains. I just made this short Vid. this Season while Snowplow, but it also pushes up to 15cm height wet Snow with easy. For more height than 15cm definitively Chains will be needed. i angled my plow Shield on the Cutting rubber to a steep angle of about 87* against the bottom. It doesn‘t hook anywhere, i just have to remove my distance wheels, because they scrappin on bottom and lifts the blade little too much. So actually my Plowshield runs just on the Rubber and makes a good Job. That will be sure increases the wear, but i found a great local source where a meter of 1cm thick conveyor belt rubber cost‘s only 20 bucks and results in 10 usable Stripes with 5 cm width. That result’s in a 2 bucks for a exchange lip, - so let it rub down. But i made yesterday an bigger oops. because my ipad needs a little longer to react while i try to set a thingi on my Watchlist, i tapped little annoyed on the Screen and - Baaaang A message occur‘s ***- Congrat‘s to your Purchase -*** 😂🤪 ok, the price was good so no bargain for it- so let it happen... needs just a little Rework to be usable on the Horse, but than next year i‘m in another Sphere on Snowjobs.. 😎
