11 pointsFor about 15 years I have been drying and storing a couple of prized ash logs for the specific purpose of building oxen yokes which are only found where I come from. This type of highly carved and stylized yoke is found no where else in the world. They are going to be made entirely with hand tools . It will be a good demonstration on how things were made and what can be done without any machinery from rough sawn lumber to a finished product. Its going to be a long project.

10 pointsHere are a few photos to start...my tractor is a 416-8 that was probably one of the earliest made, with white wheels and decals that don’t match the ‘85 310-8 I’ve been borrowing from my dad. I can’t read the tractor serial plate. It came with a barely used 48” SD deck and the plastic WH rear wheel weights. It needed some TLC after having sat for a year without running. Previous owner couldn’t get it started when I went to look at it, so when I got it home it got new fuel lines, an inline filter, a carb rebuild and cleaning, a fresh plug and fuel, and I have a new set of points on the way. I’ve also had to seal some cracks on the muffler, cut new rods for the hood pivot, and put some LED headlights on it. This thing is a beast. Looks great with a blade on it. The biggest issues left with it are a slow oil leak where the transmission input is, a broken dash where the steering column runs through, and a non-working voltmeter.

9 pointsHello everyone. I recently purchased a 1277 tractor at an estate auction. I got what I think is an amazing deal. My wife thinks otherwise but she is starting to come around. I'm a first time home owner so this is my first riding mower. It runs great and I am planning on using it this summer. I'm going to change all the fluids, filters, and belts. Is there anything else I should do on a new to me tractor? Also can anyone tell me what drive belt this tractor uses? It's very dry rotted. All tips and advice would be a great help to me. Thanks!

8 pointsAll I can say is WOW! If you were wondering where the weak spots are in that transmission, ask him next year. I'm sure he will have found them.
-
8 pointsI had to roll this out of the corner for some dims for 'Rules. Really should get this on table for work cept someone's got 701's he needs to get at.... BTW Madge nope...no holes for exhaust clamp.
-
7 pointsEric, the front mule drive (in yellow) is factory correct for this model. I have several of these mule drives. The mid mount (in white) has been turned 180 degrees probably to move the newer deck with the newer carriage to the rear. This probably means the stock belt will be too short. Best to take the existing belt to TSC and find an exact match.

7 pointsWorking on the 416 in the barn and also watching the Marvel Comics movies start to finish with my son. The likeness is uncanny.....

6 pointsYou can find a lot of things I made for the snow plows here... And Jim has the dimensions above if I didn't include in my thread.

6 pointsI know its not Friday, but got a little work done on the Lawn Ranger and took a front pic.

6 points@PA Horseman Just checked out my 48'' dozer blade Model # 0648BC03 Serial # 1061044 and tried to measure this mounted on the 417-8. It appears to be 31 3/4'' long center to center with a 1 1/4'' right angle bend on each end and 1/2'' diameter solid rod. Toro part #104338 $ 69.24 With 2 hairpins # 9335124 or make your own rod. If you look on Parts tree you will see the orientation of the right angle bends. Hope this helps.

6 pointsThe piece in white is the mid hitch. It was likely bolted on reversed to correct lineup. The piece in yellow is a modified and/or home built front hitch. The whole appears to be well made and should be perfectly functional. I wouldn't change a thing!

5 pointsI have been thinking about putting a Yanmar 10hp in my Wheel Horse, but this is just crazy. He is taking an air cooled 22hp V-twin diesel and he is gone turbocharge it. Hope the trans is gone hold all that torque. Seems like a hard install, a 10 hp will just bolt up i believe.
-
5 pointsWaste of time, but so is so much of this world we live, but we have fun doing it. More power to him, if he can pull it off
-
5 pointsGot it done! Thing runs and drives great! Can't wait to use it this spring! I decided to give the manual pto a try, guess someone needs to get this question answered once and for all right! I used steves 8hp shaker plate i got from @pullstartjust had to make solid mounts and drill 2 hole to mount the motor. Oh and put in a hole for the drain plug! Hopefully it will make a oil change! Lol!! Everything thing else lined right up! The exhaust i had to bring out and up about 3 inches. Still interested if anyone else has tried this with this motor or not! The wiring i used a battery power ignition switch and put in a relay for the kill switch.

5 pointsAs I work on it on the left end of bench still is usually on the right end of bench. This way I can work while waiting for spirit to come out and keep an eye on it while I work.
-
5 pointsThe 1277 was the top of the line tractor for 1967. Looks like yours was well cared for. Your drive belt is a 4L-780 and I have found the Kevlar Belts from Tractor Supply to be very good. This manual should be helpful.

5 pointsso i bought a 314-8 from @bizon yesterday With a good looking oem seat, a good mowing deck and a and a special semi homemade semi Wheel Horse grass catcher for 700$ He is bringing it today, so pics are coming!!

4 pointsThis is why I love Wheel Horses...the absolute simplicity of them. I just went to Home Depot and got rod and R clips for $8 and made the rod with your notes in about 30 minutes time. Here’s the final results, hopefully we’ll get some snow Monday to try it out!! Thanks to all for the help 😁

4 pointsThis one is now flat , straight and with no wind on both sides. On to the next one.
-
4 pointsSide car with mower deck maybe? I'm going through tractor build withdraws. Have to just look at others have'n fun on here building stuff instead of getting some skinned knuckles myself. There's been minimal available time for hobby related stuff for while now. All work and no play has me off balance
-
4 pointsIsn't necessarily my cup of tea but to each his own. It's certainly quite a machine. I've been figuring over the last few years that money and time spent making one's self happy is not wasted. Just as we all have different preference to certain types of Horses or many other things... His "waste" is obviously different from each of our own.

4 pointsThere's obviously "lots" of things not permitted in the house or allowed to leave after in according the "19 pounds of fury" we call Gibby.
-
4 pointsThanks for bringing that bike up @Lane Ranger! @wallfish how about a little winter modification and pop a tire chain out back, lift handle and snow plow up front
-
4 pointsLooks like 1969-1972 for rear discharge decks and 1971-1972 for side discharge. Garry
-
4 pointsThe rear hitch point is done. What a p.i.t.a. I had to partially assemble to see how much room I had then dissemble to the point of taking the rear strut section off. I think I can keep moving forward from here.
-
4 pointsMy 1969 Charger 12 came with one as part of the 36" deck 5-7365 Edit Looking at the manual for the 5-7365 looks like the tach matic midmount is correctly installed. Drive belt for that deck is #9360. found two different cross over for length parts manual indicates 97" belts listing shows 96"
-
4 pointsMike, I think this was the first attempt to get away from that weak swing arm side drive tensioner that was always breaking. This front mule drive used a spring to tension the belt. I'm not sure which models and years used this mule drive, but the design was short lived. The front attach-a-matic and current mule drive followed very quickly. Maybe Garry @gwest_ca can shed some light on the history of this mule drive.

4 pointsHello I recently purchased a 1277. It is my first. It is a 1277 I believe this model is supposed to have a 12 hp engine. Based on the engine tag I think I have a 10 hp engine. Could this be a replacement engine? I have attached some pictures. Thanks for any input.

4 pointsI made a similar belly blade a few years ago out of a 42" plow. I cut the blade height down quite a bit and then welded on six inches to each side to achieve the 54" width. Here is the thread:
-
4 pointsto the Looks like someone did some decal switching. Do you have the tractor model numbers? The only way I know to verify HP is to remove the head and measure the bore. 10 HP bore is 3.25 12 HP is 3.37
-
4 pointsThat red short frame in the corner sure is keeping an eye on that green one!
-
4 pointsThese pics were taken in Owls Head Maine at the truck and tractor show a few years ago. These were random pics which I thought were owned by random owners. Come to find out the beautiful GMC is owned by a plumbing inspector who has inspected my work and I had no idea he owned this gorgeous pickup, small world as they say. The fleetside Chevy aint to bad either. Just realized this should be under Antique Trucks, sorry Josh. Mods feel free to move it SORRY. It's been a long week at work, time for bed.
-
4 pointsMebbe I'd haveta go Full trucker mode. Ole 292 straight 6, 20 forward speeds. For nooooooo good reason.
-
3 pointsWell i ended up starting to clean up the hitch setup. That came on a parts 1965 jd 110 i picked up earlier this year. Had to cut a pipe that was welded on off and free it all up. It was set up solid as a rock.

3 pointsWhile I was sharpening two chainsaws The Paint Department was prepping another wall for recoat.
-
3 pointsThese are younger guys doing this stuff with these tractors. They use pretty much any brand and do some interesting mods. Mudding, hills , water crossing and general trail riding is their thing. Kind of like a quad. Not my thing either, especially when you consider you may have to get a tractor off of you. As long as they're having fun.
-
3 pointsNo problem man! Thanks for sharing. Both are cool trucks but I have rarely seen an old 50’s Jimmy like that even considering all the car shows I’ve been to. What a sweet looking mochine 👍🏻😎
