12 pointsI've been larger than average since around age 10. My whole maternal side of the family wrestles with weight and to a lesser extent my father's side as well. Back in 2013/4 I went through several significant life changes, socially and physically. One of these was dropping my weight from approximately 325 to 233 over the course of a year or so. Towards the last part of that I was losing too much too fast and not feeling quite right. I stopped the quest for loss and focused very much on hiking toward endurance, literally. My weight settled in around 245. Stayed there for 2 or 3 years. In 2017 I noticed a more frequent aching all around. Mostly joints. Certainly some muscle and tendon as well. It was exhausting me to work a full day. My recliner and I became very good friends due to lack of choice. In November that year I began to wonder how long I'd be able to hike bigger mountains and even keep an active job. So I went and consulted with the doctor. Tried a few things here and there. Basically just dealt with whatever it was day to day for another couple years. Last summer I tried some new things. Krill pills to get the Omega 3s. A new med for pain management. Definitely on a better path now and happy about that. Now for the weight.... On Sunday 1/17/21 was up to 272.4 and I find that... Unacceptable. I've been working out and training in martial arts with Trina once or twice a week for several months. Also been doing a few other things. Aerobic type stuff. Weight training. Treadmill. not enough to make a difference in my weight obviously but it is helping some. So it's time to step it up a notch. I've been trying a VERY reduced gluten eating pattern. I'll step up the exercise plan a little bit as well. I'm going to aim to get back down around that 230 lb area... Here we go folks!

9 pointsCame home from work today to find a package on my desk, opened it up to find the new camera I ordered a couple weeks ago. Once I get it figured out it should be a lot better than my phone for making videos of our projects and any other adventures we find ourselves in.

9 pointsYesterday while trying to diagnose my charging problem, I was using a brand new set of test leads from Auto-...... I would get funny readings at times, and finally narrowed it down to the test leads. One was working half the time. I quickly cut the crimped ends off, and soldered them on.That can be pretty aggravating. Also while working on my charging coils, I was laying on the floor looking up at the magneto, with my head on my arm. All of a sudden my ohm meter started squealing. I thought that was funny, it wasn't even hooked up to anything. DUH! I had my ear laying on my arm, my hearing aid was back feeding and squealing in my ear. If it aint one thing, it's another.

9 pointsDepends on what kind of results you are looking for. You want a show piece you repaint everything. I never repainted a whole Wheel Horse tractor before. I have degreased, power washed, got the toothbrush out and cleaned every little nook and cranny, touched up some paint, and rubbed out and polished or oiled the rest. The key is in the details. You will be surprised how they come out with just a lot of good old fashioned elbow grease. This 416-8 I painted the wheels and the deck and put a custom set of decals on from @Vinylguy. Came out pretty good if you ask me.

9 pointsI find a lit of vintage Starrett and Brown & Sharp tools at auctions for cheap. I remember one young auctioneer selling a set of Starrett OD mics as a C clamp set. I still have that set. I have to confess for many OD measurements I use my Red Neck Caliper.....an adjustable wrench and a tape measure.

7 pointsI added a Hien Werner pump to my Raider 12. Unlike the pumps that they made for the tractors, my pump turns clock wise and had to be driven from the flywheel side.

6 pointsThe sunstrand hydros can handle two lift cylinders as on a D series with 3pt. Have operated both at once but with out any load on the midmount. Just a bit slower.

5 pointsToday it is hard to keep up with all the newly emerging types of screws and drivers for them. I too use them . In the shop however, like with everything else, I like to work using old ways and methods. Slotted head wood screws have for very long been one of my favorite screws to use. In much of the work I do there are no exposed fasteners, but when it needs to be so, only a slotted wood screw is used. Anything else would just look out of place. No other screw has that classy and dignified look. I am very partial of brass and bronze screws of which I keep a vast supply of. I even have stock of oxidized screws for the right look in some pieces. A brass or bronze screw also will not rust making it easy to remove at a later date specially outside or work subjected to moisture. Most shy away from them feeling that they are hard to drive. Reason for that is that most do not have or use the correct tools to use them. 99% of screw drivers or power drivers are incorrect for them. What ever driver is used needs not only to have parallel sides but also be the correct size to match slot. Screwdrivers with nonparallel sides will just slip out and immediately damage slot. Cabinetmakers' screwdrivers such as the ones on photo are designed for slotted head screws. One can also use a wrench on them for extra torque such when seating a screw flush with work. I never use power tools to drive slotted head screws. My go to tools are braces specifically short throw braces used with a sleeved driver which prevents bit from slipping off screw. For seating screw flush with surface I then switch to a non sleeved driver so I can see screw's head. I keep various braces set up with different size /type drivers along with others with countersinks. I also use braces to also drive other types of screws. They are fast and efficient never overdriving or overheating screws leading to damaged or snapped off heads. Foe easier driving have a wax cup under bench which I use to lubricate all screws. Today we are constantly switching to a new type of screw or cordless drill to make our lives easier but in reality much of it is nothing but an addiction inflicted on us to spend money . Make no mistake I also use them only when necessary such as in production work. It is however the old ways of doing things that I was taught with, that captivate my passion for this craft. In the short video below I illustrate on how I drive screws here. I merely drilled a short pilot hole to start screws rather than a full length pilot hole as usual. The long steel screw is 6" long and it goes through a knot.

5 pointsI have some Fowler calipers too. They were much cheaper than Mitutoyo and have lasted me close to 20 years already. Though I check it before every use, I have never needed to turn the dial to keep a true zero.

5 pointsFor what you're wanting I agree with Mike on the plastic. I have three of them. One in the garage, one in the workshop and one at my desk. Handy and super cheap. For reloading I need something better and I've used this dial for many years. Mainly for reloading. I don't know what brand it is but it has the Smith and Wesson logo on it so I thought it was cool. Personally I prefer the dial type and I don't want to rely on a battery.

4 pointsHa , thats not hoarding , you don't have enough yet. Every time i find a wheelhorse to bring home , i tell my wife that it is my duty to preserve these specimens to put in my museum . She even went on a 24 hour trip to pick up a 1973 10 hp 8 speed with me. After the fifth or sixth one , i didn't have to go on about how they dont make these anymore , they will get harder to find bla bla bla , you get the idea. My museum now consists of my shop and three sheds full of tractors and attachments . I think i have about 10 wheelhorses and a bunch of attachments. They are all my favorite years and models. I fear that once one collects enough of these , it becomes an addiction. Lately , i found five machines from the early 70's to bring home. They are not wheelhorses and i have no idea why i needed them , but i like them and they are in the "museum " now. Have i crossed into the twilight zone of tractor hoarding.... maybe.

4 pointsWell I have spoken about this before. I have had cancer in both my throat and pancreas. Before my treatments and surgeries I was 345 lbs. I am also 6'5" tall so I was a very big man. During my hospital stay after surgery to my throat and stomach I wasnt able to eat anything orally. Just through an IV for around 6 weeks. Once I was able to eat orally again it was time to start the radiation to my face and throat. So it was try and swallow what I could or pump it through a feeding tube that they put in my stomach. During this time Feb - Sept I went from 345 lbs to 265 lbs. It is now a year later and I am holding steady at 270 lbs. Big changes are some foods I cant eat anymore because of them being hard to swallow. Like its hard to swallow the crust on pizza so I dont eat it anymore. Also I dont eat anywhere near the portion sizes as I used to. Since starting my new employment I walk a lot. I only work part time but it is a lot of movement. According to the fitbit watch I walk 15,000 steps thats about 7+ miles a shift. All that being said I am still 270 lbs. That makes me still obese on most charts. Some guys are just bigger. Dont be so concerned with a weight number. Shoot for just feeling better by eating better and getting exercise in. The better you feel is more important then the number on the scale. As always... Do not take your health for granted !!! It all can change so quickly.

Is there anywhere on Red Square that any of you are aware of that gives instructions on buffing, waxing, and restoring original Wheel Horse paint. 4 pointsWhen I wake up, I gimp into the kitchen and make coffee, then take my meds. After that is just where the wind takes me! Other than using non ethanol fuel and try to remember and shut off the fuel, that's about it. All my stuff that run lives under a roof though, so that probably helps. Randy

3 pointsI am under the impression that if the limited slip 10 pinion rigs hold 2 qts, the rest can just as well. Like @Oldskool’s turbine drums, we’re not running 60 mph and there shouldn’t ever be a negative foaming effect. At the end of the day, I imagine these hold up with 1/2 qt in them for many of years, any appropriate treatment will yield infinite results.
