16 pointsI went and picked up the C-81 for 100$ and seen a small 3 speed wheel horse. I got that one for 100$ also! Not sure what kind it is. They dont run but should be savable. I really love the small horse!
-
15 pointsI plowed with Thirty Five! I need to pay up the big bucks and replace the belts, but it moves snow!
-
10 pointsOh nice thanks guys I knew this would be the place to find out those awesome details! I through a rope around them and dagged them up on the trailer. It sucked but I wasnt about to leave them! They are banged up and missing some parts but so am I.
-
9 pointsHey Dan, did you have the C-145 facing the garage so it could watch what was going on?? That is the biggest mistake that is made by us. Nobody likes work going on behind them...it can really piss them off.
-
9 points@953 nut I've always liked the creativity of the tractors on Cars. It looks to me like the artist took a Farmall M And crossed it with a Minneapolis Moline R. To get the end result a Chewall.
-
9 pointsPretty sure @pullstart can get 2 tractors into his glove compartment with out any problem.
-
9 pointsGot the round seat from @WHX24 installed- decided to try white and I dig it! Exhaust is done too, and took a little trail cruise on Sunday. Still need to do a pipe bracket, temp gauge, hitch cable, and still waiting on a couple decals, but for the most part Hoss is ready to go to work! Like many of our 'projects', I believe this is the one that will never really be 'done'- gonna be adding, changing, and modifying little stuff, probably forever ha.

9 pointsHaving enough power is not a problem. Traction is the limiting factor be it pulling or trying to stop a heavy load. Every tractor I buy, hydro or gear drive, is chained to a tree and tested to be sure they can spin the tires. I routinely move 2200 lb boats with my tractors, but always on level ground. In addition to the dangerous braking ,or lack of braking, problem, be aware these short light tractors will do back flips very easily. I was pulling a 24', 2800 lb. boat out of a level garage with an 8HP Commando8 when one of the rear tires on the trailer bumped the end of a 3/4" board that I didn't see laying on the floor. Before I could push the clutch, I was thrown back on the tongue of the trailer and the tractor was upside down on top of me. Luckily with me acting as a cushion between the tractor and the trailer, the newly restored Commando 8 didn't suffer any damage. I also healed up in a couple days. I now have front hitches on a couple tractors that I use to move heavy trailers, but only on the level and I always keep the trailer tongue dolly wheel locked in the down position and just clearing the ground. No more back flips with the front hitches and it is easier to see when pushing trailers into tight areas.

8 pointsIt even came with a passengers seat, 3 windshield wipers, sun visor and heat. Pretty progressive for 1938.

7 pointsThe little lady has the week off for her birthday, so she decided to clean the cabinets in the back room. Well lo and behold, behind all her cookbooks, she came across my single mantle Coleman lantern that I assumed was long gone. We moved here 21 years ago. I'm pretty sure that was the last time I used it. It still had fuel in it and the mantle was still good. I oiled up the pump leather pumped up pressure on the tank and it lit up and was burning like I had just used it yesterday.

7 pointsI actually had the door closed behind it. Radpferd was in for some intense surgery, he was torn in half, his guts hanging out, there were fluids on the floor, it was pretty gruesome. I just wasn't sure that a young tractor like my C-145 should see all of that.
-
6 pointsSooo... in a rare moment, here are the 3 Amigos gathered in one place. 1980, 1981, and 1983 C-175's
-
6 pointsMaybe, just maybe. After watching the pallet jack get pulled apart, the 656 was afraid that it may be next on the disassembly list. There for it fired up in fear. This may explain why my C-145 fired up the next day. After the tractors were put to bed, Radpferd explained to my C-145 what happens around here when you don't work properly. After trembling in the garage all night & day thinking about what could happen if it did not get in line. This may be why it fired right up the next day?? Ok now maybe I'm starting to go off the deep end.

6 pointsI’ve heard you say Sweatheart many times, but it was with transmission guts all over the video...

6 pointsI can't tell with my tractor, I only have one so it doesn't know any better. I did have a 73 F100, every month or so it started running strange, couldn't figure it out. Then I detailed it and it would start running nice and smooth again. I don't know what that means, but if it worked...
-
6 pointsI was about half tempted to call you out for exaggeration there for just a second or two and then I realized it was Pullstart and I've seen what he can do so... Carry on everyone!
-
6 pointsNever anthropomorphize inanimate objects, they don't like that! My machine is watching me work on wifey's car. Even helping! Standing still holding the intake manifolds on it's back.

5 pointsThe reason why I ask this question. In order to have room to work on Radpferd yesterday my C-145 had to sit outside all day. It was a nice day, so it was just fine out there. After I was done with Radpferd I went to start my C-145 to move it back into the garage. It would crank but would not fire. Checked the plug and it was a little wet put still fired like new. Tried some sniffin' salts & still nothing. Tried a new pug and still nothing. Then the wife shouted out the window that supper was ready and that I better come & get it or she was throwing it out. Given this ultimatum I pushed my 145 back into the garage and headed in for some grindage. Tonight when I got home from work I figured that I better find out what the issue was, as my C-145 is my snow plowing tractor. I gave it some choke, turned the key, and it fired right up in less the 2 revolutions. I took it for a ride around the block and it never skipped a beat. When I got back from my ride, my wife asked what was wrong with the tractor. I told her that it was P.O.ed that it had sit outside all day yesterday while Radpferd was getting some love and attention. My explanation may sound far fetched, but it's the only one that I have.

5 pointsSo, can’t name tractors... but can name tractor transmissions... but only while working on them...as long as you only call them “Sweetheart”... got it... Getting worse than tax forms...
-
5 pointsWay too much fun at Radpferd's expense. Now that I know's Radpferd...is he OK. Should I send flowers?? I have not laughed like that yet this year...thanks everyone.

5 pointsYou just watch your mouth mister. The J word. How can you even utter such disgusting things...... When I used profanity as a child my mom and grandmother would wash my mouth out with soap and that's probably what you should get done right now.
-
5 pointsFrom the 2009 show in LaSeuer, Minn. This is serial # 1. It was designed to work in the fields all day, and then drive into town in the evening. It has the driver and passenger seat.

-
5 pointsKevin, I was going to mention that. Transmissions are all called Sweethearts, because you never want to swear at them when working on them. That is rule # 1.
-
5 points@pullstart it is not that they deserve names or not, they already have one, it is when you guys talk about your horses by nick-name, no body else knows what kind of horse you are talking about. If you talk about Putt-Putt having an issue.... If you talk about your 58-RJ, now I know what you are saying. My wife's name is Chris. I sometimes call her Sweetheart. If I call her by that nick-name, she might answer, but if someone else calls her by that nick-name, she should look confused. I can't explain it better then that. Actually, I am surprised Dan has named something...Radpferd??? No idea what he is working on. I would stop running also.

5 pointsTo my knowledge that cab was strait from the factory. MM also made the model UDLX which looked like a cross between a pick up truck and a tractor. Very big $ when you find one of these for sale.
-
5 points@racerjohnbf any model will work for you. I wanted to stay away from 8hp kohlers; until I got one for $100.... they are little giants!! I like kohlers, just because of they are bulletproof, simple and reliable. This is a site for addicts, from @Herder, @ebinmaine, to me; who has a Wheelhorse for every attachment!! Welcome to RS!!😀

4 pointsIn bare terms, it's just naptha. Pure, clean gasoline with absolutely no additives of any sort. Rated about 55 octane and it'll burn in older engines just fine. Coleman fuel is simply even further refined white gas.. lasts about forever. We have a twin mantle from the 60's the Gramps hadn't lit since the 1978 blizzard.. still took right off.

4 pointsOh Boy, what do i miss such „ mishaps“ while talking face to face.. That are situation i miss the most there day‘s i hope that F***** Covidthing ends soon for us all.

4 points@Maxwell-8 Just so you know...there are no 4 pinion differentials in transmissions with 1 1/8" axles. Every Wheel Horse transmission with 1" axles has a 4 pinion differential. Every Wheel Horse transmission with 1 1/8" axles have either 8 or 10 pinion differentials...or bevel gear differentials. Wheel Horse Transmissions with 1" axles can be considered 3 speed, 4 speed and 8 speed. Wheel Horse Transmissions with 1 1/8" axles are 8 speed...except for the "Heavy Duty" 3 speeds which have the bevel gear differentials.. BTW...Wheel Horse Hydraulic transaxles work the same way. Edited:: It seems we have some exceptions to what I stated above, as noted below, I apologize, I did not know about the newer models that have 1 1/8" axles with 4 pinions. When in doubt, reference the IPL for your tractor. @Raposo if you are just going to ride around the yard, I would put the 3 speed into your horse. It will bolt right in and the linkage is the same. That 3 speed should be a WH #5053. It is plenty of transmission for anything you would want to use it for. Don't sell that 1" axle 8 speed transmission short, It is just as strong as your 3 speed. The main difference between those 2 transmissions...is where the brake drum mounts...on the mushroom gear for the 3 speed (hole close to the rear axle)...and on the cluster gear shaft for the 8 speed (next hole toward the front of the transmission). That is where the linkage fabrication enters in. Keep the 8 speed for a horse where you will need low range.
-
4 pointsPTO, I think. These tractors also had a top speed of 40MPH https://www.farmcollector.com/tractors/minneapolis-moline-udlx-zmtz18septzhur

4 pointsMaybe a better seat altogether. Had just enough old tonneau cover to pull this off

4 pointsAfter articulating it, there isnt as much angle it the u-joints as I thought there would be. I believe that's a good thing though.

4 pointsHello All... I would like to share my block patch story. Bought a pair of C81's a few years back - the good tractor had a ventilated block where the connecting rod let go at full throttle and the parts tractor was pretty used up, but had a running motor. I also had a really good K181 from a Commando, but with a bad alternator. So, a little mix & match later, Commando motor was installed using the original C series oil pan. The motor ran fine, but had 2 annoying oil leaks - the previous owner had stick welded the steel oil drain tube to the cast iron oil pan - it leaked at that joint so I switch it with the other C series pan. The second leak was behind the coil / solenoid plate - oil was weeping thru a porosity in the block at the casting parting line. since the motor was out anyway to change the oil pan, I gouged out the seam about 1/8 deep with an angle grinder, cleaned out the gouge with 3 applications of Brake clean, and filled the groove with JB weld. Sanded that smooth, a second larger application of JB weld and pressed a 2x2 aluminum screen patch into the epoxy. Sanded and a 3rd application of JB to blend it out. Painted the block and been using since early summer - no leaks. Bill

4 pointsGood eye, I couldn't remember where I had seen the long hood decal on a short frame before.
-
4 pointsI would be more concerned about the 4 pinion diff, (which can be found in many 1 1/8 axle transmission too.)¨* *not true They will do just fine, maybe if you go pulling with it, but that's a different story. I wouldn't recommend that:

4 pointsyou can pull a full size car with a small Wheel Horse tractor the Wheel Horse 704 in the pic below (buried in garage) pulled the 3700 lb Olds 442 in the pic below on dirt / gravel driveway as eb stated - stopping is a concern and especially on a grade
