Because front ags look cool, and rip your yard up!

Nope, these are just a bunch of old 100% useless tractors just to ride around the property with once and awhile. Its kinda like an old folks home here for old garden tractors!

Made a horrifying discovery when I removed the key from the ignition for the first time today........ is there a penalty box or confessional around here? tractor is new to me so still discovering things...

This can be "cured" using traditional long standing methods involving sage and lots of ceremonial dancing. A fair sized hammer will convince the metal key it is no longer stamped with swear words. Pm me your address and I'll send you a proper WHEELHORSE starting tool. Possibly generic in brand but certainly not that. That. That. Muck.

    1) the reason for putting ag tires on the front of a two wheel drive tractor 2) huge exhaust stacks on small little garden tractors

Finish the chain guards tomorrow and some belt guides, wire the headlights and I think my list is done. It will be time to clean the garage and then dismantle this thing. I'm gonna clean, grind and paint before I ever head out the door with it. I'm not expecting any issues so I'm just going for it.

Would a reverse burn out work to sharpen the ags?
  11. 6 points
    1. I run ags on the front because the plane janes tend to skid, so traction as primary reason. Yes it works. Doesn't hurt it looks good either . 2. I run a high stack, simply because I firmly believe the birds like the exhaust fumes much better than I do. Only reason at all.

Like Ron Swanson from "parks and rec" would say, " because this is America and I can" !

I did the AGs all 4 corners because 1 I really liked the the OTR brand I put on the back (great year around traction without chains) and they are the same brand and correct factory size for the 520s and yes IMHO has increased my steering traction as well mowing slopes, gardening, and snow removal while installed in the "correct" orientation as the rears, these have a more pronounced bar angle than "generic" AGs plus have a straight center section that seems to enhance the ride (front/rear over the standard bar design)and reverse traction of the driven tires in my experiences so far. As a young fella, my father had a straight pipe stack on the CC Original K161 the only benefit of that was the cool factor ,definitely not my hearing.

So here is what I came up with once I peeled it off the wall. 🤔 Fairly simple, functional and light weight.

I switched to fluid filled ag's on the front of the 854 8 speed back in 2010 or so to give better steering while plowing. The tires are narrow compared to the C series - I leave them on all year, just pull the 25 Lb weights off - no adverse effect on the grass .... Bill

You would think so but for steer tires they actually do work better. Other backward applications would be: On a wheel driven implement such as a manure spreader, Large grain carts, and also for a pulling tractor when there is an asphalt track. Mounting the tires backwards on a pulling tractor for an asphalt track adds one other element to the mix. Pulling on asphalt will start wearing/cutting the tread backwards leaving a taller sharper trailing on the lugs. When you turn them around to pull on a clay track, now the leading edge of the tire will be taller and sharper for better traction on the clay. It's one way to accomplish having cut pulling tires with out getting busted for grinding them. Grinding/cutting your tires to get a sharper leading edge is a no no in stock antique pulling classes. Judges often check our tires for grinder marks.

My first stack? Practicality. I needed a new muffler, had a Cherry Bomb. I’m quite frugal, most times. After the first, stacks are like tractors. Can’t just have one.
  22. 5 points
Guess I am of a practical bent. "Cool" looking doesn't get my interest or money. Hence no Ags on the front. Stacks do not work for me. Short stacks exhaust at face level and I have lots of low hanging tree branches so tall stack are out.
  23. 5 points
yeah but you could put a pair of half-eaten jelly donuts for front tires on that thing and it still would look cool

Would you be willing to adopt a 45 year old 'kid' to add to your collection? I want to ride around on all the cool stuff and play in the snow too! You'd get an extra tax deduction, I clean up after myself, and I wipe my own butt too!

If you turn it upside down wouldn't all the QUICKN run out on the ground?

Hope you're sitting down. I don't know anything about it. Just thought it looked cool, and I ought to have it. My wife asked me what that green thing was. "I've had that for a long time. I just brought it up from downstairs" She called me a liar. Of all the nerve..... Guess I will have to start doing some more research.

When I looked on Tractor Data , I didn't see many of the 10hps with hydro and the woodgrain. I figured there could very well be some that had all those things that TD didn't have posted. I was born in '59, so I was about 10 when I started driving it. That's why I know it was around 1969. I have a 877 . . but looking to buy some more

Yes sir, same tractor, same ags! Sitting proudly there under that beautiful American flag that allows you to set up your W-H tractor in this country any way you see fit to. God bless the U.S.A.

Going waaay back - resistor plugs came out to eliminate ignition "noise" that could be heard on the car AM radio. Bill

As an epilogue to this story, I found when re-installing the muffler that the bolt was at the very top of the bracket (that bolts to the motor plate) slot and this could well have contributed to the failure. There was 'stress' on that bolt, very difficult to get it installed. So I opened up the slot so that everything fit nicely without any stress before tightening everything back up again. I think it will last another 40 years.

Oh no! Shock horror! One inch of snow has fallen overnight and our county is on its knees! I went to collect a grocery order from our local supermarket at 8 am, about five miles away. drove there and back no problems, apart from one idiotic van driver who refused to give way as I was coming up hill and forced me to stop. But I got going again and all is well. Sat watching people slide their cars past our house then give up. Happens every winter and no one ever learns.

Just to be clear I am confused in the variance in price for the same bearing. I'm currently working on a Kohler K321 that had water intrusion and needs new main bearings. Part #235376-S. I have never had to replace main bearings on a Kohler in the past so I was in no way prepared for the sticker shock when I looked up the Kohler part. With out further ado here is a site with an average price for the bearing. Note: This price is for one bearing. https://www.sepw.com/parts/kohler-235376-s-bearing-ball/ Well.... after I stood back up and picked my jaw off from the floor the realization that Kohler most likely did not actually make these bearings hit me. And I was right!! The bearings were MRC 308s, sooo back to the computer to see what I could find for prices again. Here is were the real confusion set in. Price number one on the Jungle Site. $174 https://www.amazon.com/MRC-SKF-Radial-Groove-Bearing/dp/B08JVC7SXG/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=mrc+308s&qid=1610675424&sr=8-3 Price number 2 at Motion Industries $70 https://www.motionindustries.com/products/sku/00056807;origin=sayt Price Number 3 at MRO Supply $35 https://www.mrosupply.com/bearings/radial-ball-bearings/1132529_308s_mrc-bearing/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PLA There were some lower priced used bearings on some sites as well as used ones at $60+. I settled in on the one from MRO Supply. I just have a hard time swallowing these price differences for the same bearing. I realize that every body has to eat but it seems that some wish to live on steak & lobster. It sure pays to shop around when you are looking for parts

Has the overbuilt, "I can work anywhere", U.S. Army look about it. The thumbscrew lock on the throttle and the taper at the end of the driveshaft say "generator" to me.

Pumps and some strange signal corp generators (not something really usable for us).. The two cylinder version of the engine ran the1.5Kw generators. Parts are easy to find

Thank you all for the information , I took the wheels /hubs off today and you were right the right key had been worn off , I replaced both sides . the left was not to bad . Seems to work good now . I was working on it in the dark last night and could not tell if the input shaft was turning was why i delicately tried to put it in gear to verify that it was turning not the best idea but an idea . Thanks again

don't get me wrong , i am not knocking them....if you want them that's fine i just don't get it. but there are a LOT of things in other stuff i'm interested in i don't get
  43. 3 points
1..... I've never actually run them so I'll let somebody else answer that... 2. I have two reasons very separate from each other for running a tall stack on Cinnamon Horse. The first reason is that I just like the look of stacks. That's obviously nothing more or less than an opinionated thing and to each his own... Notwithstanding that is the actual HEIGHT. I run mine so tall because I want the exhaust to be completely out of my face and I find that with a shorter, quite frankly more aesthetically pleasing, stack on there the exhaust just blows right back at me. I don't want it coming out either of the sides because it still comes right back at me and I can't point it down because I live in a forest that gets very dry throughout the year and I don't want exhaust and sparks blowing on my fire hazard.

Best of luck with your project, Bryce! I hate to say, but a junk yard / used engine will be much cheaper than rebuilding... but you know that might only get you to the highway. I guess there’s something to say for torque sequences and checking things twice? In all honesty when I did Norman’s head bolts, I missed one on my final torque. Something like a phone call that dinner’s ready, or the like. In my double check I found that I had skipped it completely and might have been in another tear down situation if not for a double check.
  45. 3 points
No more turns than a 520 gear system but remember you will be multiplying the torque through the standard steering gear arrangement. WH did it with a double reduction at that point and the stress is after the main gear. It may hold up fine but can you find a 520 set up to put the money into??

I guess all I can say is. Go big or go home.

After 21 years of selling IH parts, flat head ford parts, wheel horse parts and Kohler parts. I’ve managed to to help out a lot of restoration projects as well as putting additional funds into the family till. So I have no complaints. Lucky for me that 100% of my flathead ford stuff has been sold of as well as 85% of my IH parts. I still maintain a very good inventory of used Kohler and 300/400/500 series parts. Over the years eBay fees have been increased time and time again. With their divorce from PayPal, eBay created issues that I found rather burdensome however, I remained doing business with them. However as of last week, eBay required me to provide personal information such as birth date, ssn and other banking information that I didn’t feel comfortable sharing with them, or the Chinese government. Therefore, as many of you have been asking, I am closing my eBay sales down. eBay was a great idea and worked well for lots of people however, like the icebox, 8 tracks, and cobblestone roads their time has come and gone, at least for me as a seller. I may start a website but for now, I’ll maintain a foot print or Richmond Craigslist as well as several forums. As always, my prices are always 20% -30% lower for forum members so if you need parts I’m still around going through an incredible hoard of wheel horse parts. All the best.

1918 vintage Daddy? Yep that's vintage. I would like to get a pic or valuation of my dad's railroad watch but it's in a safe deposit box that takes an act of Congress to get into with this covids stuff. He was an engineer on the railroads for 50 years and collected vintage time books. When you watch old movies and the conductor pulls out his old time piece that's really how it was. Like I said Josh good thread.
