13 pointsMany of you know how frustrating drilling large holes with a hole saw can be. The problem is that a hole saw has no provisions to eject the dust it creates. Therefore the trapped dust soon clogs and overheats cutter eventually leading to its early death by ruining its temper. I have drilled thousands of large holes with them many times through up to 5” thick MDF laminated together. The worst material ever to run any cutting edge through . The idea is to create an outlet for the dust by drilling two holes opposite each other allowing an area for dust to escape to and eventually drop through the bottom. In the example below it’s a 3” hole through 1-1/2” hard maple with no burning or caking up of teeth. I also sharpen them on a regular basis by using a diamond burr or a file.

10 pointsI put some new shoes on the front of the 310. They are some tires and wheels I got from Brinley a bunch of years ago on ebay, Only paid $10 each and free shipping if I remember right. I have four and was saving them to build a four wheel wagon, but decided to use them on the 310 instead. I did have to make some spacers for the inside of the axle. They appear to be JD yellow and you guys have already seen my WH wagon that was painted green so my rig looked like Christmas today!!

8 pointsPicked up a C165 today. I can’t resist a 16hp Kohler especially when it’s mated to an Eaton 11. Also came with a 48” deck. It will need the basics to get it running, but the engine is free, and the rear seems good to go. Thank goodness I have a wife who “gets it”. This makes 10 Wheel Horses in my barn, the only bad thing is I’m out of room now! My Black Hood collection is taking shape. I’ll have this one running in the next couple weeks, and hopefully ready for mowing duty in the spring. I haven’t decided if I’m going go full out or just get the mechanicals in good working order and use as is, paint wise. Sorry should have taken a couple better pictures. I didn’t get the number off the tag, I’ll have to get that tomorrow. Heath

6 pointsOver the past few months I've been spraying the saws with snow Jet. The stuff for keeping snow from sticking (as much). It works better for hole saw cutting than it does for keeping snow off the blower. We drill 3 1/2 and or 4 1/2 holes through the rim joists of houses everyday so it's important to get them done quick. Everything else depends on getting pipe through that hole so the quicker the better. Spraying them allows us to use just a cordless drill now and they go through in half the time than it took before we started spraying them. Some of those old houses used timber so some of the holes are deep. The spray seems to keep them cool and slick and the dust doesn't bind the saw teeth or stick to the sides. The worst stuff we drill is OSB as the glue in it would stick the dust to the teeth and sides. Not an issue now. The saws last much longer now too. I'll try the relief hole thing where we can too. There's always room for improvement

5 pointsGot a little snow that's melting that I normally slip and fall on and expect my tractors to slip all over so I took my new to me Bolens with Pozi for a spin without chains and I was pretty darned impressed! I fully expected to get stuck but I didn't. Then I put chains on and WOW! I knew Pozi would make a difference and it really did!

You know dang well as I do on a new to us even just squaring away PO cobbles is a project! Have fun with her and good seat time! Gotta them Onans ther in your line up! You know somethin Dan @Achto & Jack @PeacemakerJack of all the tractors at plow day I don't recollect ther ever being a B'hood in a furrow!?? Thinkin maybe about high time we did something about that!!!

5 pointsFound few Day‘s ago a small unit, that shall be able to remove Points and condenser to have a breakerless ignition. That chip shall also be working on Kohler and Tecky Engines. Price is even cheap with Just 20$ , so i ordered it and will give it a try when it arrives. I think it Sounds interesting, never again check or clean points or even point or condenser troubles further. Will post my results if and how it works.

5 pointsWe got one of those Spyder carbide tipped hole saw kits Lowes sells at work. Had to drill a 4" hole through a wall for an AC line set. Unbeknown to us there was an old metal gas line imbedded in the wall for lights back in the day. That hole saw tore thru that line like it was cardboard. Made the drill jump for a second! Needless to say I bought a set of those when they went on sale!

5 pointsI like to tap into accessory power on the switch. This way the lights go out when you shut the tractor off. Less chance of a dead battery do to lights being left on with this set up. You can also just tap into any constant hot wire.

5 pointsBack around 97 or 98 I knew a guy that had one of those Honda Shadow Ace that was shaped and sounded like a Harley. He'd had a ton of Harleys over 30 years or whatever and got sick of trying to start them as you mentioned. Bought his Honda new. Sort of a greenish over white. Removed all the badging. Went to Daytona.... Him and a bunch of buddies were going to go out for a cruise so this skinny little old man goes over to his '70s Harley and kicks it about 37,428 times.. In between using every colorful word known to man and setting different buttons and switches 18 ways to Sunday and other people looking at it... It finally started. The guy I knew walks over to his Honda and stands like 3 ft away, Ben's far forward as he can, holds his thumb and foerefinger like he's carrying the most delicate feather you could imagine and reaches over and twists his key. He wasn't sure if the old man was going to laugh, cry, or snot beat him into the asphalt. I heard that story several weeks after it happened and he was still laughing so hard about it he could barely keep his composure...

4 pointsHi Guys, Thanks for letting me onboard Recently acquires this 312-8, she's a 1989 vintage but still in decent shape Back story, about 10 years ago my brother's friend asked him to go check out this tractor. Owner says it's down on power after rebuilding the engine, his friend passed on it but my brother decides it's an easy fix, he's really sharp with small engines, he's a machinist by trade. Takes it home and pulls the head off and sees the bore is nice and shiny. Pulled the side cover, crank and rod, measures it up and decides on new rings and a hone job. Good as new. Friend ends up buying it off him, uses it for a few years and bought a new mower. It sat for a few more years, (unfortunately outside), he tries to fire it up and comes to the conclusion it needs a fuel pump. Replaces the pump, still no fuel, it sets for another year until he drops it off at my brothers shop. I asked him about it a few weeks ago and he said the guy would probably sell it, at this point I know nothing about Wheel Horse tractors. Before I decide to buy it I wanted to figure out what exactly is going on. Previous owner said no fuel and he thinks the lobe is worn off the cam. I take the brand new fuel pump off and we figure out he installed it upside down so the arm on the pump is nowhere near the cam lobe. Made him an offer and he takes it. Decide on just freshening up the tractor, I'm finding it really hard to not go with a full resto but she's going to be put to work so I don't see the necessity of being really pretty. First thing is to replace the fuel line, filter and get the fuel system plumbed up. Previous owner removed the entire air cleaner assembly and lost it, acquired the parts, although delayed in shipping. Rear end seals are leaking, ordered the seals, they were also delayed in shipping but finally arrived last week. A few weeks ago I drained the rear end fluid and filled with Kerosene, ran the tractor off an auxiliary tank since it will be sitting for another 4 months before I drag it home, unfortunately tractor only ran for 5 minutes and dies. Ended up taking the carb off and running it through the ultrasonic cleaner for an hour and ordered a carb kit, which is currently stuck in Indy at the post office. Continued on the rear end, drained the K1 and left empty until I replace the seals. Last weekend I tackled the seals, not the easiest job when it's totally assembled but got it done and glad I decided to do it brake shaft seal was leaking bad, forgot to mention earlier before I bought it I pulled the trans dipstick and there was no oil on it, that was my deciding factor to replace the seals. BTW, I ordered one of those seal pullers of f Amazon, totally worthless, seals ore too small. Used screwdriver and picks. I bought the narrower ones, I have very limited space in my shed, currently it houses a Toro 5060 Timecutter and Agri-Fab vac trailer which is what will be the Horse's primary duty, along with pulling a roller and dethatching rake. When I get it home in the spring it'll get a thorough cleaning, it's killing me to work on it while it's this dirty. Can anyone give me some insight on why in the world the brake pedal is back so far at rest? it's so far that it's bending the running board, we looked at it for about an hour to see if there was something bent but everything looks normal. The only way I can see getting it vertical is replacing the return spring, it is under tension until the brake is in the position you see here, that or drilling a hole to relocate the spring closer to the pivot to minimize the pull tension. Thanks for listening to the ramble, hope to get it buttoned up next week while I'm off, this was kind of a side project and I've got bigger projects to finish up.

4 pointsSometimes here isn't much better but we do have a wealth of information on the WWW, but that info is only as good as those that have posted it, Partstree.com is a really good source for part numbers whether still made or NLA for most brands of lawn and garden equipment, lots of people on here poke fun at the green brand (myself included) but they do have one the largest coverage of parts for their equipment spanning many decades, it is unfortunate that most suppliers are actually letting service parts disappear either for budget/income constraints, EPA concerns, or the fact the product line was "killed" off and no longer made/sold (Toro with Wheel Horse) so many variables here, be thankful we have this community here for answers we can't always find elsewhere. Keep the faith.

4 pointsI doesn't matter where you have the throttle, the governor will open the throttle plate far enough for a compression check, of course a high throttle setting will insure that does happen. The rear plug can be easily reached using a very long extension with your 3/8" ratchet. Some handheld compression testers will not fit into the tight space. Removing both plugs would be a bit easier on the battery and starter, just be sure that the choke is open. Onan says that compression below 75 warrants engine work.

3 pointsSince @wallfish mentioned the spraying with the SnoJet, here is a proper lubricant for any type of high speed cutter. I use this for router bits specially flush trimming bits used on laminates. It prevents dried contact cement from adhering to and freezing bearing. it is important to keep any cutter clean and free from any build up. I also clean all my saw blades and router bits with any good Oven Cleaner. Just spray it on wait about 15 minutes and rinse with hit water. They will look like new and the hot water evaporates quickly leaving very little drying to do. I then spray them with this. Current version may look slightly different since this one is quite a few years old. Like everything else I always get enough for a couple of years, a little peculiar habit of mine.

3 pointsL should work. You would have to test it to see if there is any flickering. Three terminal Regulators will not have an L terminal you would have to use Bat.

3 pointsThank you sir, I was just trying to get him in the ballpark for a quick 1st time evaluation before he made up his mind to buy or not as the OP said the engine does not run now, I should have also mentioned to take a cheap spark tester along for checking that as well.
