17 pointsEvery since I fixed the shed she has basically taken it over. Now she decorated it for the holidays. She is even having me move Rjs around to decorate it. She keeps asking “any more little guys around ?”
-
13 pointsi inherited a c-161 plus an array of attachments including snow plow. wheel horse is far from my wheel house. i don't even know what all i have; the 161 has been kept in the garage but the attachments are in a shed and also behind the shed under very heavy plastic covering. some items are easy like the plow. am guessing anything with red paint in the shed is likely a wheel horse attachment but am hoping for insight before i start moving stuff around. there's also a kohler thing that looks like something i have seen pictures of here - the 161 is not missing this part though so i have no idea about it. need to sell all this fairly quickly while i am still out here with it in central new jersey. can anyone please help advise me?? please check out the pics & thank you for any help!

11 pointsNew rule! Don't post a really nice tractor and attachments in central nj right before Christmas!

7 pointsThe 520H was my first Horse, and once I fixed the typical Onan intake seat and two piece manifold reseal issues, I had no problems whatsoever with it. Whatta beast! ...annnnd then along came a Kohler powered Horse. And another. And more. Then a barn full of em. So I raided the parts and built Hoss, took a K321 and rebuilt it with a 1.65 intake valve, ported and relieved, balanced, mild cam regrind, decked, milled and unshrouded to 9.3:1. Them big block Kohlers have plenty of power as is, but I cant leave things alone. Hoss is an absolute animal, and even at 1700-1800rpms will dig a trench instead of stalling out. Not sure if the governor has ever actually pulled the carb wide open.... So simple to work on, and rock solid dependability. Still love me a big Onan, but truth be told, at this point the only thing I truly miss is that wicked opposed twin snarl

7 pointsHappy 50th Birthday Eric!!! Have a great day my friend!! If you haven't already received it, your invite to join AARP will be showing up in the mail shortly. Don't forget to make an appointment to get your tail pipe checked out.

6 pointsThe k series kohlers are the best engines in the wheel horses (my opinion) here are a couple of my all original horses
-
6 pointsFirst off your wife got any sisters who like little red tractors? I wouldn't worry about the hydro thing too much on the sole fact there are fellas here that can walk you through any problems you might have. It is a bit risky when the tractor doesn't run and you can't check the tranny but if the price is right. Parts are out here yet as well as complete working hydros. Good luck and keep us posted.

6 pointscouple of years ago I unburied an old mid 60's schwinn sting ray and replaced the original tires that were dry rotted and cracked also replaced the tubes - the tubes were original made in USA tubes (stamped on tube) quality of the made in China tires and tubes did not look great - but that is just about all that is available (unless you desire to spend $200 for a vintage OEM tire) one tube failed the first day - split at the seam I pulled both new tubes and threw them in the appropriate spot: garbage can re-installed the 55 year old tubes and all is well
-
6 pointsAgreed. These are all Kohler engines except the bright red one. That's a Briggs 8. L to R: 314-8 owned by @OldWorkHorse Steve. My Patriot Horse B-80. Trina's Pony 657. Trina's Pigpen 867. My Cinnamon Horse C160.

6 pointsC-160 with the K341s is HANDS DOWN...the best one-lunger ever made. ...Best Wheelhorse too.
-
5 pointsSeems China is either clueless or keeps the good stuff and exports the rest. EVERY piece of rubber I see "MADE in CHINA" and is a few years old is cracked, split and failed, tubes, tires, tubing, all rubber. If China's military is using "Made in China" rubber we've got them hands down! They won't have to do do anything other than change out rubber parts! Any good inner tubes out there? I need a couple dozen!

5 pointsmy wife asked me earlier this week if i would be interested in restoring another tractor. today i was with her and she pulled into my buddies mower shop and told me to stay in the car. after 10 min they both came out and she says go with him to see what he has . showed me a charger 10 auto with 42 inch deck he had covered up outside looked great he got it from original owner that bought it new but don't know if it runs .also seen a c141 auto but was missing some parts body . then a c121 caught my eye all complete but the seat and seat springs are gone no big deal. i don't know about the auto's much and are they easy to fix and get parts. gear drive to me a piece of cake to do theses two auto's i looked at the transaxle covered in grease and oil .since they don't run hard telling if they any good. I am more partial to the gear drive. he going to dig around his place to see what else he has . this c121 there looking at i can't find a serial number tag on it no where any idea's the year ? the one pic is kinda fuzzy . the tires really decent shape been sitting in that spot for 5 years he says

5 pointsThis is the first time the 312-8 has been on a trail ride. I use this as my regular mower so after the deck came off for the Winter I took a couple of laps around in mostly 3rd gear using the throttle for speed control. Sun came out after lunch so why not. Amazing how this M12 runs the same as it did in 1989, smooth, quiet and hardly any fuel consumption. This may not be the most desirable model in the WH lineup but what a bullet proof dependable little red tractor. If for some reason the herd needed to be sold off this would be the last to go.

5 pointsDENNIS , GREE WITH YOU ON THE CHINESE JUNK, everything they make is on a substandard guide, measurements mean nothing and lack of overall quality is very thorough , if you get a few months out of anything before it fails you are lucky . being a post ww2 kid , when everything was forever , verifies we are all older , glad I experienced the era, pete

5 pointsCas my friend you're riding a tough balance line right now. The taking over part could lead to disaster for sure but the decorations up to now have been excellent. The best news is her .... She keeps asking “any more little guys around ?”... Line. This is CLEAR indication of not only permission, but a REQUEST for more tractor purchases. IF played/negotiated with great caution you have potential to greatly increase the herd and the construction of another shed/storage area.
-
5 pointsFinished up the 857. Ordered some rubber wheel hub/dust caps from @GlenPettit. Only other thing I want to get for it would be the piece that goes into the slot hitch so I can tow a cart behind it. It really runs great, starting to like it more and more.
-
4 pointsStill kick myself for selling mine. But then again I kick myself for selling all of them. If I had a place to hold them all I would keep them all. Anyways I have fun bringing them back to life and moving on to the next one. Good Luck with it.
-
4 pointsYou said it best ... get both for $250... (And it would be advised to avoid the visuals from @WHX24 when he starts in on his bucket list tractors... )
-
4 pointsYou musta missed that thread with the nice C-161 with a eight speed Brian.... and only a state away for you! I'm prolly gonna have one of those male dreams about that one tonite! What can I say ...bucket list tractor!
-
4 pointsBoth of your horses have the gas tank under the seat. With that design there’s not much or any gravity flow on the suction side of the diagram style fuel pump. There have been some threads about putting check valves and I let those folks speak about that. The other common option is too install an electric fuel pump In place of the mechanical diaphragm pump. I have a “Facet brand 1-2psi pump on my C-81 and A 313-8 The Facetvpump cost more than the Chinese brands but it will last.
-
4 pointsRemoved the 48'' SD deck from the 312 today. Bottom looks clean, try never to cut wet or a damp lawn. Noticed a flat tire on the 520, removed and brought to a local tire shop, had a HD tube installed, total amount 15.00 for the tube and 10.00 for the labor, back home re install tire and wheel, weight and chain, go for a trail ride on the 312. Back inside and cranked up the big wood stove in basement.
-
4 pointsThat's a common issue A 12v electric fuel pump or one of these should solve the problem https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Fuel-Line-Pump-Primer-Bulb-Hand-Primer-Gas-Petrol-Pump-Rubber-Aluminum-Sales/373229524942?_trkparms=aid%3D777001%26algo%3DDISCO.FEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160801204525%26meid%3Dcb9f1da1c6ef4ed49a923ef27838631e%26pid%3D100651%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26mehot%3Dnone%26itm%3D373229524942%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057%26algv%3DPersonalizedTopicsRefactor%26brand%3D&_trksid=p2380057.c100651.m4497&_trkparms=pageci%3Acafa3447-3b41-11eb-b2d0-2ef43906d994|parentrq%3A4f0ba8c01760a9c98cd5a284fffdf0c4|iid%3A3

4 points20 to 40 but my Onan is over 20 as well... Its not necessarily Brand as much as how it was treated since new and no matter what those old oil "slinger" engines won't hold up to mowing slopes/hills like I have with pressurized oiling unit unless its ran "overfilled", just my observations, yes Kohlers can and do last several years... And so do Onans if taken care of.

4 pointsI have repeated failures and slow leaks in my bicycle inner tubes. They will not maintain a suitable air pressure for a week. I asked high end bicycle shops what tubes hold air and the answer is none of them. Some blame the buyers pressing for low prices, I blame people with a broken moral compass.
-
4 pointsThe Chi-coms are very capable of making high quality stuff. They only make junk " as ordered" by US companies. "Make me 4000 innertubes and I will only pay 12 cents apiece for them", that's why we get junk.
-
4 pointsWhat you laughing about Plunge... when's the last time you had your plumbing checked?!?!? May you and EB can do a double date and get the two fer discount?!??!

4 pointsNow that it has to be Wheel Horse original mounted engines, I would have to say the little robin diesel in the 512-D ;-)

4 pointssounds like she's asking about more, and you know the old saying 'HAPPY WIFE, HAPPY LIFE" strike while the iron is hot

4 pointsI'll be the oddball here. I like the Briggs 16 in my GT 1642. Decent power, easy to work on, starts great, even after sitting over the winter. Smooth running with little vibration. It's been as reliable as a claw hammer. My Onan has needed a governor flyball spacer replacement, had wiring issues and is difficult to work on. I got it running properly now and I like it. Great power. I like my Kohlers, I just seen to get the worn out ones. I have a 745 hour K321 with a knock, an M16, and M12 that burn oil and rattle. Other than my KT 17 I've had bad luck with Kohlers lately. Bill
-
4 points@muz123 “Nice running” And “onan” don’t belong in the same sentence haha. My 520 with the 500hr onan runs pretty good honestly..

4 pointsMacon, GA passed by @Zeek on the way to Okeechobee (I can totally see how wild pigs would be in your area), dropped the camper and headed north to see friends and family in Daytona, have a bite to eat and made it to Jacksonville. I’m ready for a real night’s sleep then will see if we can get all the way home tomorrow! Norman is all kinds of peppy.

3 pointsWell you see It's like this This current build I'm going to either modify or make spindles and then weld stub axles onto them which will allow me to use regular trailer hubs. But as far as Cinnamon goes... I should warn ahead that some of you may get a bit of a cringe or even a little pucker factor out of the way those wheels are on. The front wheels on Cinnamon are the rears from an old crapsman and there are NO wheel bearings. They are literally a slide on. There's a key way that goes all the way through the hub. I took a hand file and put a chamfer on both sides of that so as to prevent gouging of the Horse spindle. About twice a year I take off the front rims, degrease and clean them out and regrease and reinstall. While I have them off I carefully check the spindle for excessive wear and I have found zero so far... I had intended three years ago to change over to rims with bearings and in fact at one point I bought a c81 specifically for no reason other than that it had the correct front wheels for me. Couldn't figure out a good reason to change the wheels if they're not doing anything harmful to the spindles so I sold the c81. We now return to our regularly scheduled reduced pucker programming.

3 pointsDo not ask questions. Do not say anything. Nothing at all.. Just go get the tractor.
-
3 pointsthat looks cherry! Honestly, I hope that you find the value in keeping it around and cherish it for years to come! We can *help* you get it running!
-
3 pointsKohler is what I preferer. All range from 9.6 to 16HP. Some smoke, some rattle, not to much different than me.
