9 pointsI have a set of Wheel Horse weights on my C-161. I have a 54 inch snow blade on there and it never flinches so I assume they are doing some good. My dad had the whole set so I put them on when I got the tractor from him. I think they’re pretty pricey today, especially if you have to have them shipped. I also have inside weights on the rears and the rear tires are fluid filled. I’ve never encountered a snowfall it couldn’t handle easily from a traction standpoint.

7 pointsThis year has been the worst year we have seen regarding the water level in the Brook that runs through the property since we have been here the last 12 years. In September for the Meet & Greet there was no water in it and now after last night it looks like this. However we did lose power from 1.30 am until 9 this morning and I am sure the wind had something to do with it. For those that were here in September remember driving over the very large rocks that we cross over to get to the other side and that is where the first pic is taken. The highest water levels are in the spring with runoff from snow melt and my favorite time to watch and listen from the camp porch.

6 pointsFella had a Deere a few years back with this on the front of it. Amerind Mckissick Mighty Mac chipper. Gave the tractor to his grandson but kept the chipper. He let it set in a tarp garage for 3 years+ then decided it wasn't getting used... So I went and took it off his hands. He gave me the pile of green yellow and black brackets, pulleys, etc he had from the original purchase several years ago. He knew none of them were of mush specific use to me but figured I could either pass them on or modify as needed. Some point or another @Stepney and I will get it hooked up, likely to Cinnamon Horse. Good afternoon project for the local Paint Department.

6 pointsOne of the very fine benefits of this forum is not only the vast amount of knowledge, but the depth of different experiences AND the ability to ask and explain and fine tune are invaluable! I've pushed snow for decades but my driveway is crushed stone and I can see where your concrete would be different and that chains would perform differently on a hard smooth surface as well! My chains dig in EVEN in frozen hard packed gravel, but they would stop at a hard concrete surface and then I suppose have less surface area to grab! I'm still going to say studs or chains for ice, but perhaps not for blacktop or concrete. Thank you! I think that everyday that I learn something is a good day! I'm concerned that I might be forgetting more than I learning though and how long can I sustain that before... KEEP THE GREAT IDEAS COMING!

6 pointsGot a nice fire going in the stables and started on the 655 I snatched up on the road trip. Needs one head bolt heli coil’d, crank seal and a quick valve job. This one is functional but rough, my other 655 is a super clean machine but incorrect fuel tank and governor linkage. Not anymore!

5 pointsI spent so long trying to cook up ways - however decided to go for the coolest and most effective once locked mine is unstoppable, but it is a pig to turn... as the differentials are essential on an articulated tractor!

5 pointsHere is my 310 and 1277 loader on my trailer, ignore the ugly wheels on the 310, they are not staying. The other implement is my driveway drag. The shed is what my loader is stored in now and also a pic of my 95 Silverado.

5 pointsGOT IT. Its a repulsion motor. Two winding's one with the black wires one with the red wires. One wire from each winding goes to each line. Reverse wires and rotation is reversed.Surprised they still used them for this application in 1987. The others I have are at least 70 years old.

4 pointsThanks....I have no idea Slim... picked them up at a swap meet... thinkin Lane Ranger might have sold them to me ... or did I get the back ones from him???... I CRS. They are supposed to be inside wheel weights but just a burly one from going over the hub. Some day I'll peel them off and machine them a bit. Plow day was not waiting for me so threw the land side on outside. Lots of us plow dogs run dual weights. Hardcore furrow rats even run three or more plus loaded tires. Furrow side only has one. My wallet was as thick as Billy's I would have some suitcases off the front too.

4 pointsFor the reasons noted above regarding surface damage, I plow 3 flat driveways (1 concrete, 2 asphalt) with my C 105 with no weights or chains. No issues...

4 pointsBefore I paved my driveway I used chains. Once I put down the concrete in sections I actually found the chains would cause slippage and scarring. I took them off and never have looked back. I used to plow snow with my old 520 and it had just fluid in the rear tires on turf savers and it did great as well. I think my tires are Carlyle but I would have to go past the shed to see for sure. It’s been a while since I put those on there.

4 pointsIt has been over a decade since I've had a truck, but I think my Crown Victoria fills that roll just fine for wrangling up some horses. To this day people still act amazed I pull a trailer with it, but something about a fully boxed frame, rear wheel drive, V8, and twin-piston brakes up front... more truck-like than people think. If that doesn't get people, I also have a Focus with a 3-cylinder engine I have hauled a few home with.... albeit slowly.

3 pointsI have a Troybilt chipper/shredder from the early 80's. When I saw it the 5hp briggs had been run for who knows how long with grass packing the engine fins. Corrosion all over; weak compression, carb leakage. Explained to the owner it would need a new motor so got a very favorable price. Sent that motor to recycling and got a newer bigger briggs off a power washer that the owner had left in a freezing garage (ice cracked the pump and he figured he'd just buy a whole new one) so I got a deal again. (Broken-pump power washers are a good source for 5-7hp briggs and techys!) Since I'm in a suburban setting on only ½ acre, when I got it I figured I'd use it a few hours every year. Ha! That thing gets more hours than my lawn mower with privet hedge thinning, bush trimmings, fallen limbs, the stuff from trees cut for firewood that is too small to burn, and so forth. I don't use it for leaves (they get mower mulched in or composted at the edge of the yard). I think you'll find it's one heck of a handy thing to have around. One word of caution--it is at least as dangerous as a chain saw if used imprudently. I don't let anyone near me when I'm using it and only mature adults can use it or borrow it. 'nuf said.

3 pointsI have found that green & yellow are the easiest colors to remove with a sand blaster. They almost fly off just by showing them the sandblaster.

3 pointsI'm hoping it's ok. The only other Deere stuff I have is a set of '65 round rear fenders I picked up on the cheap a few weeks ago. That's @Achto 's fault since he stuck em on a diesel Horse.... LOVE the look of them. Haven't the foggiest idea what I'll use them for. But I'll dream up sumpin'

3 pointsMechanically it should drop right in,providing that the new motor has a wheel Horse oil pan with the threaded mounting holes on the left side. If the new engine has a magneto ignition you should not even have to change much wiring.

3 pointsNow thats a cup full! You need a steady hand to get that out of there. Soent the morning cooking, the afternoon cleaning down my machines after turning all that cast iron and then an hour milling a new throttle shaft for Fred's carb. Nice bit of 1/4 inch sliver steel with M2.5 threads tapped in. I will have a look at the throttle lever tomorrow. I fancy making it from brass bar rather than pressed steel but we will see.

3 pointsI rebuild them and I currently have none in the shop. Typically a 10 day turnaround. k161, K181, K241, K301, K321 and K341 cast iron kohler engine for 275.00 plus parts and machine work if required. In most cases cylinder will be bored, crank will be ground, valve seats ground or reconditioned. New piston, new rings, new rod, valves new or reconditioned, all new seals and gaskets. In some cases valve guides and bearings are replaced. Entire engine brought back to factory spec. I no longer do performance/pulling engines or twins. Once rebuilt, and properly maintained, it will give you another 30-40 years of service. I don't cut corners, I take my time and get it right. 40 plus years of working on and rebuilding k series engines.
