“having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance“ That’s what the dictionary says. Mr. Jay. Some people call him @roadapples. I call him a lifelong friend. Please forgive me, whoever it was at the 2019 Big Show who directed me to Mr. Jay, knowing he might have a welder nearby the fairgrounds. Thank you. Jay is a great guy, who at first impression laughed at “Are you Mr, Jay?” He’d give you the shirt off his back. I won’t ask for his pants... but if needed.. well. Last year about this time, he had a post like “well, this is it, I don’t normally tell people this, but I have leukemia and will soon be going into chemo.” Mr. Jay, I am sorry that I have not asked you for more updates more frequently. We as a RedSquare family care and want to know that you daily improve. You deserve the support, brother! Tonight, Mr. Jay responded with a thumbs up as he does quite often to a post. He’s a silent type, I get that. I’m only silent if I’m stumped, typically. Here’s a conversation we had tonight. I’m so happy to report that Mr. Jay is on that uphill slope! DR. EXPECTS FULL RECOVERY! YES! AWESOME NEWS!

Hello All, Hope everyone is safe and well... It wont be the shiniest, fastest, biggest or newest pickup at the 2021 WHCC show... BUT it will haul my fat azz and Wheelie Horses around JUST FINE! And its Emerald Green or Hunter Green or Metallic Green or Chevy Truck Green... whatever they call it for 2015. It makes me giggle everytime I look at it, I havent had a "nice" truck in along time. Happy Weekend everybody Tony

10 minutes from my place, been watching it for over a month. Couldn’t get him below 400 Which is a bit more than I normally pay, but went for it due to its completeness, condition, and ‘survivor with a repainted hood’ status. Needs a carb clean, battery charge, and a deck belt, but runs, drives, and blades turn freely! no doubt the cleanest, most un-hacked original I’ve run across! Someone took care of this ol girl and kept her indoors for sure. don’t know much about these little machines, so any input would be great.

This would be my preferred method, but there seems to be some kind of silly ordinance against discharging a weapon inside the village limits. I don't think that there is any thing in writing against blowing up your lawn though.

Good to see that Mr Jay (roadapples) doing well and hope he gets the all clear. Number 1 grandson, Liam, also has an annual check on his cancer next week. Again leukemia. He's been had the all clear for the last couple of years, so hoping he'll stay that way.

Did a dry clean on this one today with just a putty knife and shop air. There was oil leakage from years of previous owners. I am guessing the lift cylinder. the transmission tunnel was a mix of Mighty Mouse, fine grass, dust turned to solids, and you name it. I lifted out what I could and used the shop air to keep things moving past the shop vac. Eventually it all came out. the mower deck looks like there is paint missing, but it is black grease that peeled off.if. I do decide to use water or chemicals to get off the rest, I think what i did today was an hour of time well spent.

I know fall doesn't technically start for a few more days, but I consider wine making a fall activity. Wine grape truck showed up today so we decided this year to try Pinot Noir. We average about 25-30 gallons production per year of various grape and fruit wines. IMG_0551.mp4

Picked this up off FB Marketplace yesterday. Its a "Hercules" 1/2 ton, spur-gear style chain hoist. Made by "Chisholm - Moore" out of Tonawanda NY. Looks like it is all there and functions well, I do need to get a couple new screws for the chain guide, as some are missing. It also looks like the guide is slightly off center, so I'll have to look at that. Can't find much info on this hoist. Not like the Yale units that seem to be more common. Think I did pretty well. He was asking $60, and he accepted the $40 offer I made him.

Been working on the yard clearing project a little more. Last weekend I felled (7?) Small/medium trees. Over the week we've sectioned them up and today we cut it all to 16" or so and stacked it. I did some additional trimming and got the brush shredder going. Shredded up quite a bit of branches. Sure is lookin better out there. It's the are where I'm standing at the right side of the pic. The firewood we got from the clearing is on the lawn just left of center. I'll get some more closer pics when I remember. Maybe even a video.

Picked up an 522 xi a while back. It was suffering from a weak hydro. The PO said, when it warms up, it will not pull a hill but ran okay on the flat. I ran it around a bit and it defiantly slows after a while. The owner said oil was changed on schedule with Amsoil synthetic. Meter shows just over 1k. Looked it over and seen a couple issues. One, the hydro area was packed with debris. Next it seemed like the linkage was not right. Even when the oil was cold it wasn't as smooth like my other machines. Oil was full and clean. Filter was newer. The rear tires were loaded and weighed 115 each. I figured the hydro was cooked due to the lack of cooling. I did find the linkage plate worn pretty bad. I have an extra hydro and priced a new plate $$ 40 big ones so I thought I would repair the old one and wanted to share the pics. I welded the worn cam also but forgot to take a pic. I know you guys will look at pictures of anything! LOL (me too) I threw in a pic of the gearing also. Hope to get it together in a couple and update.

I was thinking about this question tonight. What's the hardest thing to do on a WH, service/repair wise. And I really couldn't come up with anything that terrible. But then it hit me. There is one job, when executed incorrectly, will give a big owie, every time: Slide that sweet restored mower deck under the tractor, and grab that Tach-o-matic bar too soon... There it is, that's the job. When you slam that pointy part of the deck support between your hand and the frame. And that's it. That's the only bad job. That's why we love WH.

@The Tuul Crib For the first time I decided to go to another source and that was a mistake because it set me back about 4 weeks on the 420. I placed a large order through a Company in Texas and they sent the order to Berwick Maine instead of North Berwick Maine and then back to Texas until I placed a phone call to find out where my parts were. Back to the dealer for me who has always taken good care of me for 30 plus years. The 420 is pretty much done other than the carb needs to come off and a good cleaning should do the trick.

This tractor still needs a few things but after seeing @The Tuul Crib 's project tractor I guess it's ok to show the 420 when I was waiting for a few parts. Nice working on them and a real nice feeling when you can throw a leg over them and go on a test run. I couldn't wait, hence the marine grade carpet seat.

Nice! I see it came with the very rare NOS belt “box guard”... They are so rare because they only lasted about two revolutions ...

Do this about every 10 sq ft until the entire yard is done, maybe a few feet into the neighbor's yard too, just to make sure. Spread a little grass seed after you're done and you're good to go. A yard roller might be good to knock down some of the higher spots but it's unnecessary.

This reminds me of all the ways we tried to kill rats that made tunnels under the corn crib.. poison, tractor fumes, and my favorite fireworks! July 4th was a special day of war with smoke bombs, Roman candles, bottle rocks etc sometimes a rocket would come flying out and Dad was aways ready like clint Eastwood with a pistol for the runways....

Did some much needed work on my GTO this week. I finally decided that my 24 year old Firestone Firehawks has outlived their usefulness. So after much comparison and deliberation, I decided on Nitto NT555R’s for the back meats. While I had the rear wheels off, I further made the decision to replace the rear brake shoes and the leaking wheel cylinder. One of these days I’m going to splurge and treat myself to an awesome full custom rear end like a Strange 60 or a Moser 12 bolt but just can’t quite justify the expense yet. The house will be paid off in a couple of years—maybe then🤔 After teaching at institute tonight, I called the wife before leaving church and asked her if there was anything she needed. She asked me to stop by and grab some milk. I pulled into the quick mart at the same time as a guy with a ‘69 Chevelle SS396 (blue with white stripes). It was very cool to have two 51 year old GM A-bodies there at the same time!

So today I sold a steering wheel, waxed a hood on the 310-8.....and wrote a few Haiku poems for the wonderful members here at Red Square. OH forgot, topped of all of the fuel tanks in the stable.....and had someone stop by to ask me what that noise was.................
