Thought I’d share a few pictures of my 1956 Economy Tractor. Just finished a total restoration -the rear rims. Runs like a top! Gotta say I love Kohler but they have nothing on the early cast iron Briggs’s.

I have a Simplicity 727 That someone replaced the 7hp to an 8hp, I still call it my 727 and it still has 727 badging and not 728. When I pull up to a red light and the guy next to me thinks its only a 7hp and I blow by him, thats when they know it was an 8 !!! Its a " sleeper "

Knew it was going to rain today (and it is really hard) so yesterday brought up the new style deck and mule dive to fit to my Charger 16. All went well until I figured I had the wrong lift rod . need the 1/2" one that was part of the front hitch kit. I have one I am pretty sure but it is up in the storage shed several hundred feet away. Next project...

Jay, were you in the cantaloupe patch this morning ? Thanks for the @roadapples . They picked all day yesterday. And all day today during the hurricane that dumped 3-4" of rain.

Well the Simplicity is finished and I have to say that I am pretty impressed with it. If you read the story earlier you know that I got this for free at a garage sale. Damn near killed me trying to drag it from the garage out to the street and into my truck. Got it to a friends house and found out it wouldnt turn over with the key, but wrapped a rope around it and would fire. Long story short, it had a bad solenoid and a bad neutral safety switch. So by passed the safety switch, new solenoid, new battery, new fuel lines and filter, soldered holes in the gas tank, soaked the carb and new carb kit, new air filter, new spark plug, and fresh oil and lube it runs like a swiss watch. Soon as you turn the key it fires up. It is supposed to have a 7hp Briggs but it is an 8hp. The tires were all flat and the beads broke when I dragged it but all holding air fine now. It is all original paint and just look at those original hub caps and chrome bumper! I havent tried to hook up the snow blower but I am assuming it will work fine as everything is there and it all spins freely. Even has the rear wheel weight. Just wish it had the mowing deck. Going to look for a good replacement seat for it. I have the original but it was in poor shape so I put this old Wheel Horse seat on it. 50 year old tractor looks pretty good and runs even better.

We went last Saturday and cut some poplar trees to cut for use on the tool room our club is building. We finally got our mill set up and going. It’s powered by an IH power unit - basically the same unit found in Farmall M tractors. Started out great - until the lacing started to come out of our new belt! That sucker sounded like an angry honey badger as it thrashed about and came apart. Luckily we only lost some decking, boogered up the fuel tank straps on the unit, and broke the throttle lever off. If anyone had gotten in the way of the belt or debris, it would have been an instant trip to the hospital or worse! After we fixed the belt, the blade guides came loose and allowed the blade to contact the carriage heads. Another hour of sweeties g and filing and we were ready to go. Ran really sweet after the train wreck of a start we had. We got all of our logs sawed and found just a few more things that need tweaking. Not too bad for a 150 year old mill (with power unit update).

About 6 weeks ago removed the motion control assembly and completely disassembled it. Today cleaned all shafts and associated parts, picked up new nyliner plastic bushings for reassembly and anything else that appeared worn. Cleaned and painted PTO parts and E-brake hardware. Polished pto rod housing, mule drive, motion control and trans engage/ disengage lever for the 420. Getting closer to a trail ride test run.

hey guys im repainting the "horse of a different color" need an opinion. Its originally a 656 with a 6 horse tecumseh in it but i dropped in an 8hp kohler k181 with electric start. Would you guys keep it original and put the 656 decals on it or would you put 856 decals on it since its an 8 horse now?

I finished up the ramp for my Uncle. I had no idea how many uses the charged M18 battery had before this job, but one battery managed to shoot every screw, until there were 2 boards left!

I thought I'd share a picture of on a lesser known odd-ball here that I just aquired in a big "horse-trade" with a good friend. This is a 1955 Garden-All Pup that was a relatievely new, small rider introduced by Garden-All to compete to some degree with the new Wheel Horse RJ35 at the time. It's a very petite little tractor with a variable speed drive, using cable steering and powered by either a Clinton 1100 like mine, or a Kohler K90, both engines with 6:1 gear reductions and an optional Schnacke recoil on them. Garden-All sold the Pup in multiple varations (hood styles) from 1954-1960 until Wheel Horse bought the company for the realestate and manufacturing capabilities. This Pup has what's known as the "mailbox" style hood and is in remarkably execellent all original condition.

Nothing like the thump of a 16hp Kohler, congrats

A small gas engine. Most of their implements have engines to run the hydraulics or mechanics. They only use horses to pull the equipment.

    Is that a 4 or 8 speed B-160?

You made a great job on that ramp Kevin 👍 it must be tested and approved with a Wheelhorse. 😎 Edit - not to be missanderstood - i trust your build 100% no doubt about it but it must be confirmed with a Pic for the official WHCC- R.A.M.PP Comitee. All other is no R.A.M.PP conform .. 😂😂😂 just for a stylish approval 🤪

my uncle is not a small guy. I needed to make sure it was plenty stable! As for Milwaukee, I can!t say enough good about it!

Nice job on the ramp! I have that same driver and it gets used for everything!!! Great unit!

Nice upgrade! Many years ago I converted my 1976 B-80 that I bought new to a C-160. I immediately removed the B-80 decals on the steering tower and that's the way it is still today. I always figured to have Terry make up replacements designated B-160 but never got around to it. I figured it would be fun to raise some eyebrows. I'm with Eric on coming up with something different just for the fun of it.

I'd mix it up a little bit and do both, kind of. Have Terry the vinyl guy make you up some stickers that have a forward or back slash through the original 6 and put an 8 beside it.

I have been thinking about converting one of the C125's to a diesel to take advantage of the fuel on the farm and just a general update for one of the machines. There are a couple of posts on here about similar conversions, but was interested to know if there is a near plug and play replacement for the Kohler 301. What sort of output shaft would be required - I presume the length would be fairly crucial as would be diameter to be able to take the existing pulleys/PTO. Not interested in stupid power, figured a 10hp Diesel would be sufficient to replace the existing unit, and keep it air cooled for simplicity and package size. Found these at a great price, I appreciate they are cheap Chinese rip offs, but might be worth a punt: https://www.westbankwholesale.co.uk/LA186F1E-10Hp-ELECTRIC-START-DIESEL-ENGINE-REPLACES-YANMAR-L1001 If you find it on Fleabay you can get the engine external dimensions which are very similar to the Kohler. Roughly the Kohler is 45cm high x 28cm wide x 45cm deep. The Chinese unit is 49cm high x 33cm wide x 47cm deep - it would easly fit in the engine bay without the shaker plate. Would it be difficult to wire it in? Seems to me that so long as I can get the drive shaft lined up and the pulleys to fit that it shouldnt be a huge project....or am I being overly optimistic? Thoughts appreciated, just thinking about it at the moment but it might just be worth doing - be nice to not have to mess around with spark plugs, coils and condensers - especially as at the moment having issues with these on my latest aquisition!

Recently traded a 3 Pt finish mower that came with a C-195 for a seat, some cash, some machine shop time and a K91 that is supposed to be electric start with a S/G. PO said this was on a floor sweeper. The sweeper was self propelled hence the extra flywheel side pully I figure. Sadly the S/G and the bracket(S) that mounts it is missing along with the belt guard if one was even furnished? I have spare S/G's but if anyone happens to have the dim's or pics of even what the brackets look like I would appreciate it. I thought these are somewhat rare but understand they were an option on some RJ's or Suburban tractors? My thoughts are to get it running and shelf for a future custom RJ or 'burb project. BTW the seat is going to go nice on the Super C!

That‘s a Standart Industy Engine.( the Engine you posted in that Link) no clue about the quality but it seems ok for that Price. align of the Shaft can be done in worst case with an added mounting plate, Electrical can be adapted by enlarging the original Wireharness on the Engine, the Pulley‘s shall fit on the Shaft for a quick Pulley conversion and you‘re good to go. You should check ahead the engine dimensions (height) with your existing Engine, because of the existing hood if all that fit‘s it‘s a cool afternoon Project. I would suggest, get a Electric Starter Version with added Pullstart, so it starts easier but you have an emergency Start option. btw. 10HP of dieselpower is not to compare with 10HP out of an Petrol Engine. Diesel‘s have mostly little more torque on same HP but sometimes less RPM. But even that can be compensated with a bigger Enginepulley. @Achto have allready a Diesel converted Horse - His Radpferd

Not sure you would find a coil for your Onan at either of these places. You would be better off to try a local small engine shop or shop on line.

How long does it have to sit before it will restart? If you have a spark plug tester hook it up and run with it. When the engine start to stumble does it show a consistent strong spark> Lets try to nail down as a fuel or spark issue

I had 2 friends with Vettes. One was a 62 that had set track records in a previous life and the other was a 67. We went to a Drive-in restaurant one night as the had a car show there. The guy in the 62 led the way while the 67 followed and I followed it. They decided to ignore the speed limits and took off. Needless to say but whenever the guy in the 67 looked into his rear view mirror, All he saw was my grille and a blue Bow-Tie!

ed kennell, what a concept , maintenance ! only thing i would have added was a penetrating oil spray down on the underside of the deck , that bone dry look , always screams ,LUBRICATE ME , to me , and i regularly do it, it stops rust , kills off the grunge , and most importantly , FEEDS THE METAL WITH LUBRICANT , PETE. 12 HORSE PALADIN , i can relate , its a disease with no cure, you see the opportunity to save another one , well done , let us know how its going , pete

the 854 I rebuilt from pieces of numerous other tractors has a pullstart 7hp kohler. I used 854 decals since it still has the serial number for the 854 you don't have a rare numbers matching shelby mustang so do what you like!

  47. 2 points
If you posted some numbers so we knew what you had there is likely a diagram available to show you exactly what is wrong without throwing parts at it. All that is required is a test light or voltmeter. If there is no tractor model number and serial number available off the rear fender pan post all the numbers off the engine decal including the serial number. There are 26 different models/years of 312-8 and many changes to the wiring in that period. Garry

I took the 48" SDs off the C-120 and the 417H for some maintenance. Cleaned, greased, and sharpened blades. The neighbors were picking cantaloupes all day. They have about 150,000 melons to harvest.
