13 pointsDecided to take a break from wrenching and painting yesterday and replaced all 4 wheel bearings and polished up these 34 year old chrome rims for the 420.

11 pointsI thought I'd share a picture of on a lesser known odd-ball here that I just aquired in a big "horse-trade" with a good friend. This is a 1955 Garden-All Pup that was a relatievely new, small rider introduced by Garden-All to compete to some degree with the new Wheel Horse RJ35 at the time. It's a very petite little tractor with a variable speed drive, using cable steering and powered by either a Clinton 1100 like mine, or a Kohler K90, both engines with 6:1 gear reductions and an optional Schnacke recoil on them. Garden-All sold the Pup in multiple varations (hood styles) from 1954-1960 until Wheel Horse bought the company for the realestate and manufacturing capabilities. This Pup has what's known as the "mailbox" style hood and is in remarkably execellent all original condition.

10 pointsI took the 48" SDs off the C-120 and the 417H for some maintenance. Cleaned, greased, and sharpened blades. The neighbors were picking cantaloupes all day. They have about 150,000 melons to harvest.

10 pointsJust wanted to share pictures of the latest additions to our Wheel Horse collection. A good friend of mine and I recently did some "horse-trading" and as a result, I ended up with a few tractors that I'm really proud to add to our growing "mini museum". The pictures are fairly high resolution so I'll add a few to the post below. The first is a 1956 RJ-25 clone. The tractor began life as a 1956 RJ35 and my friend, Mark searched out all of the authentic components to restore it as a RJ25 including a 1956 Briggs 8 engine with correct RJ gas tank stand, Schnacke recoil, period correct tires, muffler, etc. The steering wheel isn't quite correct however I have a correct cast iron wheel that I'll eventually put on it. The other is an original, first year 1962 32E Lawn Ranger. I really don't collect post 1961 models, but this tractor to me is historically significant being the first year Lawn Ranger with 1962 specific charactoristics such as the solid front tires. I'm really proud to add these to our collection!

8 pointsSecond brood of Moorhen chicks this year. Six all told. This lot were hatched out in a nest 20ft up a willow tree. Free fall exit. First lot didn't survive. Cats, crows and magpies. One crow and one magpie contracted fatal lead poisoning.

8 pointsToday I decided to smoke a 16lb brisket. Soo... what do I do for the next 12+hrs while I'm cooking? Well I think that at I got every dollar that I could out of the blades on my Swisher lawn mower. So I decided to change them. I also decide to use the pressure washer to knock the big chunks off of my Swisher. Then as long as I had the pressure washer out I thought it a good idea to wash the house. With still more time on my hands and a clean lawn mower I gave the swisher some more attention. 3 new drive belts, 1 new deck belt, new drive chain, lube all the wheel bearings, clean the air filter, new starter drive gear, and change the fluid in the right angle gear box. The Swisher should be all ready to finish out the lawn care season.

6 pointsThought I’d share a few pictures of my 1956 Economy Tractor. Just finished a total restoration -the rear rims. Runs like a top! Gotta say I love Kohler but they have nothing on the early cast iron Briggs’s.

5 pointsFields on our farm would benefit from that monster. They were worn out from 100 years of cotton farming before my day bought the place in 1948. for several years he planted peanuts , made a crop of peanut hay, and let them regrow and plowed them under. peanuts are in the legume family and take nitrogen from the air, so the plant puts nitrogen back into the soil. The black soil is plenty deep if you could flip it over.

5 pointsThere is no magic that can transform 3 Amps into more than 3 Amps. Doesn't matter how you try to fool it with what ever gizmos this world has to offer. Only option is to adapt a more powerful charging setup. My advice: don't waste tons of money trying to do this, unless your tractor has other unique values for you. Better spend it on a trade up, and get a tractor that can handle what you ask of it. Example: you could perhaps do a conversion, custom made parts, or an engine swap to achieve your goal, but those hundreds of $$$ could perhaps also be spend on upgrading you to a nice regular classic series or something like that. 312's 314's etc. are good and cheap, and they charge 15Amps................ Now I don't know what tractor you have, but that is just my on it.

5 pointsWrapped up the brisket and put it in an empty cooler to rest at 4:00, dinner was at 6:00. I gotta say that the brisket tuned out very well. I didn't think that the wife & I would be able to eat it all so I invited @WHX24 & Cindy over to help us eat it. Along with some sweet corn & beans. Needless to say there are still left overs. I meant to take a picture of the meat when it was done but Jim distracted me.

4 pointsRecently traded a 3 Pt finish mower that came with a C-195 for a seat, some cash, some machine shop time and a K91 that is supposed to be electric start with a S/G. PO said this was on a floor sweeper. The sweeper was self propelled hence the extra flywheel side pully I figure. Sadly the S/G and the bracket(S) that mounts it is missing along with the belt guard if one was even furnished? I have spare S/G's but if anyone happens to have the dim's or pics of even what the brackets look like I would appreciate it. I thought these are somewhat rare but understand they were an option on some RJ's or Suburban tractors? My thoughts are to get it running and shelf for a future custom RJ or 'burb project. BTW the seat is going to go nice on the Super C!

4 pointsI’ve seen one like that being used after the Missouri River breached the levies and flooding the bottoms. They were using it to turn over their good soil and bury the sand deposited from the flooding.

4 pointsHook this up to your PTO, run a single wire from it to your battery, job done. https://www.dbelectrical.com/products/alternator-1-wire-universal-self-excited-10si-10-si-7127-se.html?mrkgadid=3179552226&mrkgcl=1145&mrkgen=gpla&mrkgbflag=0&mrkgcat=&acctid=21700000001643279&dskeywordid=92700046661721776&lid=92700046661721776&ds_s_kwgid=58700005279187059&ds_s_inventory_feed_id=97700000007195091&dsproductgroupid=346753789164&product_id=ADR0152&merchid=1552033&prodctry=US&prodlang=en&channel=online&storeid={product_store_id}&device=c&network=g&matchtype=&locationid=9019452&creative=196860178238&targetid=aud-910917284123:pla-346753789164&campaignid=835875553&adgroupid=51238868348&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg4ybsOr-6gIVG_fjBx3ukQCkEAQYAyABEgJSTPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

4 pointsDunno if there is a 15A chargercoil available for your Engine, but in case you use a Winch, you need definitely more than 3 Amps. A simple solution can be get a standart Car Genny 35A from an old beetle i.eg and Attach it on the PTO Side, So you‘re able to charge a small Car Battery fast enough to intermitted use the Winch you like. Without a Winch i would suggest use LED lights, they consumpt very less Current. but that depending on how much (bright) light you need and how long it should work while recharge. If you drop the current consumption down from 3A to 1A charging i.eg. with 2A for lights, you need 3 times longer for recharge than before. If you just use it short term, could be strange

3 pointsWell that was a big mistake, going to the golf course bone yard, met the owner and could not get loose of him, usually they're running you off the lease. We spent most of the day cruising around the course in one of the carts checking out the many hidden pieces of machinery, I did not take pictures of everything seen. I would have needed a larger memory card in my camera. I now own the Jacobson reel mower, which had a brand new 14 hp Kohler long block installed just before it was parked 10 plus years ago, the mower came from another course and this golf course had no use of it. The mower is hydro-static drive on two wheels, the reels are belt driven and raise up hydraulically. Learned something new about reel mowers, the knives on the Jacobson are spaced about 2.5 inches apart, which means it's capable of cutting taller grass. A reel designed for short grass has almost twice as many knives with about 1.250" spacing. Rather than overload you with a bunch of images, this video shows the highlights.

3 pointsThis one needs a good bath some polish, fix a hole in the deck, complete service even though oils look clear, new gas cap, and it will ready! When this model came out it was the one I really wanted, this was about the time I graduated high school. Now I have it and won’t take much to has some fun.

3 pointsBack to the golf course. Once upon a time the golf course owner had a BA service station, this was his service truck. The sign is one of two that resided in the trucks bed stake holes.
-
3 pointsI also purchased this Toro Sand Pro, it has an 8 hp Kohler engine driving the hydrostatic, it has wheel motors on all three wheels. The sand pro is used to groom the sand traps, of which this golf course has none, it came from the same course as the Jacobson reel mower and has been parked for the same number of years. Paid $150.00 for the pair.

3 pointsLooks correct. The throttle tries to increase rpm through the spring and the higher the throttle setting the more pressure it applies to the spring. The governor tries to reduce rpm and the higher the rpm the more force it develops to reduce the rpm. The balance of those two forces is the rpm result. Garry

3 pointsThat Speedster is gorgeous! The bike I put about 400 miles on throughout middle school was also a Schwinn Speedster. However it was a 1959 model and it was a 3 speed on 24" wheels. Finally sold it to a kid up the road just entering middle school himself, and he rode it for years after. No idea where it is sitting now. Your serial number on an ElectroForge Schwinn is usually on the bottom right of the head tube. Still have a 1937 Raleigh I take out pretty often. ..Annd to keep this post on topic, I did in fact take it out this morning .. so there's that Outside of that.. shed got some more shelving and my outboards are finally off the floor.

2 pointsIf your throttle control is falling back to a lower rpm position the cause is the exrta pressure the spring and governor are exerting on the cable. The friction at the throttle control lever is not enough now due to wear and age. Many of us replace the pivot rivet in the lever with a bolt that has about 1/4" of shank that is not threaded. Add enough flat washers to allow a Nylock nut to add the tension required to hold the lever in position. You can use two wrenches to reach in and adjust to your liking. Garry
