Hello all. I have been writing n rewriting this post on n off all day. But for some1 who is rarely lost for words, i am, yet again. But i gotta try n say something; express my gratitude. The way my life has been going...well, it doesnt take much to throw me these days; lotsa times i struggle. Just to keep it together. But things happen, here n there, that remind me there must be a reason why to it all. Well...so i do; so i am. I make no bones that rightnow, God n Clara...i draw strength from them; believing He must know what is right, above all else. Though my faith in Him is what it is, and i would be lost n gone without it...i struggle with the human side of that, sometimes. But, like i said above, things happen. N sometimes 'right' people happen. And ya know what? I sure seem to find A LOT of those people on this forum. And i just want to add Bob Ellison to the list of people who have shown me, once again, that decency n kindness in this world isnt dead...and im sure God will sort it out, n following Him certainly seems the way to go in finding one's way through these strange times. I wont go into detail because i dunno how much i should share; i'll let the pics tell the rest. Besides, all i did was was express some thoughtfulness because one of Bob's posting struck a nerve. I never thought much of it past that, because, well, ive always thought, Isnt that the way a fellow Man should be towards another, who is facing hard times? Lord knows, many of you here have done that same thing here, for me, many times... And so i just want to close by saying that i consider Mr. Bob Ellison not only a fine Craftsman,but also another fine & decent human being that the Forum is fortunate to count as a member. I am humbled, Sir, and i thank You. I will be in touch again, as i wrote you earlier; count on that, as well as continued words with Him, about all concerned. And i thank the rest of you, too, for having me in your ranks. I am grateful.

I alternate mowing between a couple machines....this week it was the C-105 with a 42”SD. Always does a nice job

@BOB ELLISON is the best, I too am honored to count him among my flock of Christian friends. We all face struggles in life but faith in God goes a long way to ease that burden.

Pure multi strand copper. (Not 1 solid wire). Not CCA. That stands for Copper Clad Aluminum and some say the 2 metals can corrode each other in the long run. 14 gauge except battery cables. I bought a roll of 7 conductor trailer wiring harness. I separate the wires and it gives me 7 different colors.

I wouldnt say I have much of a " Heard " but I like to see others..... So here we go.

My herd doubled towards the tail end of last year after I picked up my 655 and C-195, had those two at work for a short time when I was getting the C-195 sorted out. Bringing them home to join the others was a great day Then I decided to get rid of the golf cart, clean up the garage, which gave everyone a little breathing room, and I got them all dressed up for the winter. (my garage has remained nowhere near this clean ) Post winter I got everyone (who was running) back outside for some fresh air and a much needed run session and got chains off, and eventually other implements as well.

I got lucky one day and a Red [] member new that I was looking for one: He can chime in if he likes. Sent a pm and off I went to pick it up. All I did was use marvel to clean it up. Easy way to clean and bring back color. I think when at the factory they ran out of the side decals or the assembler put the wrong ones on. No big deal. The bonus of this is it is the same year as the tractor. And pretty much the same area in the state soooo you never know could be a set? Or not. I will hook it to the tractor one day to take a side shot Friday for Sparky. Hope you enjoyed the picks and the story.

The o’l 520 looks a lil better after pressure washing and a new seat. Runs great and hydraulics work well. Still a long ways to go

God is good! I believe in good karma as well I am always doing things for folks for free a lot of times or little to no cost. And i have gotten rewarded 10 fold. I do what I do to help others not for a gift in return. My late dad instilled that to me and I am thankful for that. It is so good to here stories like this specially with whats all going on in this world today! The thing I tell folks when i am helping them weather it is a car repair or garden tractor repair and they have little to no money. I tell them just pass on the good deed and say Thank You. A Thank you means more to me then anything someone could give me.

Look what has just turned up at the house! Paint job is a bit rough, but will get them sandblasted at some point anyway. Might put them on later, pics will follow....

Try using a straight weight oil, as recommended by Kohler during the warmer months like 30w. See if that doesn't help with the smoking issue before you tear anything apart. You say you're using 10-40 , they call for a multi-grade for colder weather.

I don't know how many of you guys have gotten original sales packets with your tractors but I did with a couple of mine. The first a 310-8 I bought about 20 years ago from the original owner. It came withe the bagger set-up, which I still use for fall clean up, a single stage blower and a tiller. I've since sold the tiller and blower. The second tractor is my very nice 312-8 also bought from the original owner. It came with a 42" recycler deck that is still my primary mower. The 310-8 was sold by Granz Power Equipment in Salem N.H. and the 312-8 was sold by Philbricks in N. Hampton N.H. My 520H has no literature with it, wish it did but I do know it was also sold by Philbricks.

Here's my hurd for now. I am working on getting together a charger. Oh then there is my other heard.

What a wonderful gesture.....and at the same time what a gut check for us who think we will all be here forever.. Im sure we all can relate to losing a loved one, or gaining a friend for doing a simple task, who for them would be impossible. I can cane a chair, a long lost art... but I cannot do work like Bob when it comes to re-upholstering. We all have wonderful talents and we need to embrace and love them while the good Lord has given us our time here on Earth. God Bless everyone, and their God given talents..

Here's my herd Although last weekend, I sold one to a young lady that wanted to give her dad a special birthday present. So l sold the 877. Six tractors is still to many l don't have enough attachments for them all. And I don't like that they just sit and not get used. They were built to work.

I don't know whether to cry about Bob's generosity or because he mentioned he will not be making them any more.

Another project.... Had an old shed door that was getting in the way, but we didn't have a proper TV table/stand. Cut the old door up and turned it into a rough and ready table, original paint with years of neglect and character was kept. It's served us well for a few years now and cost nothing but time.

Yea all of that I also use Rotella 30w very good oil, remember good oil is cheaper than parts!

Gash dang it, I saw it had $100 in my pocket and room to haul it. Said it ran two years ago but back trouble so he stopped using it. I had one 6 or so rears ago with all factory weights and a lot of attachment and my neighbors son loved it so much I sold it cheap and the next weekend he lined up work for it. First let's say I am electrically challenged but I can read a blueprint. I have an 854 and a 653 needing new wiring. I have found the diagrams of the wiring but they don't list gauges, or types. Anyone have suggestions on a type of wire or gauge of wire? There's a million options for wire types and I am lost.

Was browsing eBay the other day and came across these nice wheels with brand new tyres from a commando 8. Threw the minimum bid on, sorted out potential couriers then sat back waiting for the price to go crazy. Nobody else bid, and now they are mine for less than the tyres would cost - result!

Well, mine is a small herd, too, @D_Mac, n right now, only 1 runner (unless u count the Trailblazer, n my 312-8 that isnt here), but hey, all things considered, im lucky to have these, sofar😊

Thanks guys! I found a seller on ebay with a set of blades for $30...there was a review saying they were good blades and not stamped pieces of junk. We'll see what I get next week! Looking at the manual, the grease fitting seems like something I should be able to grab at my local hardware store. I'll check it out and see what I can find. As requested, here are some pictures of the Horse when I received it. This is after I removed the deck and replaced it with the plow. I left the pulleys bolted onto the frame. It is a very close fit to the plow frame! I'll have pictures of the new tractor this weekend. I was planning on filling the tires of this one with rv antifreeze, but with it relegated to lawn duty I don't think i'll have to bother.

Hi Guys, Since talking about the Speedex model B, I thought I'd post a picture of our "small frame" early Speedex tractors that came after the B. The smallest model that Harold Pond offered in his Speedex tractor lineup was the model D4 (the 6 pictured on top of the shelf and one below with sickle mower). I had never seen one until a friend bought one and hauled it home from Conneticut. But when I saw it, I was hooked; being so cute and tiny making them easy to store, haul and the right size for our girls to ride around on. They were made in the early/mid 1950's, most dating to 1952-1957 and were powered by either a Clinton 1100 or Briggs 8, both using 6:1 gear reduction. It has ony a single speed forward/reverse that was dirven by 2 v-belts and you'd turn a lever which slides the engine either way to put tension the belts which drives the tractor - definitly unique. They're tough tractors to find with currently less than 20 total known but for me, the hunt for D4's is much of the fun in collecting them because of the challenge in finding them. This is really the tractor that I blame for my Wheel Horse addiction as prior to collecting these little Speedex D4's, although I admired the little RJ's, I didn't own one. I always thought though, that it would be really cool to display an RJ35 built at the same time that's physcially the same size as a D4 together, to show people what both sides of the Pond family were doing at the same time. As they say I guess, the rest is history... Anyway, hope you enjoy. -Rob

T1 30 Rotella has zinc which is good on the internal parts as well as a blend of detergents. I run it year round here. Of course I'm in the Midsouth so we don't get all that cold in the winter.

A saying that some of you might know may have been derived from fixing cook ware. The theory has it that a tinker's dam is a small piece of dough or putty that was fashioned to hold molten solder in place while the tinker was repairing pots and pans. After use, the “dam” was tossed away as worthless; thus, “not worth a tinker's dam.”

Wish my metal was as well laid out! Cut the grass on our community patch and plumbed in a new radiator at my brothers house. Just spent an hour cleaning up a spray paint drying unit that I got from an aution for 20 pounds, I'll sell it on for a profit hopefully.

Lots of different opinions on this issue... I use Shell Rotella T1 30 w. per past advice from some folks on this forum and it has worked well. But, I am no expert. I also change the oil more than "required" or recommended... Has worked well for me.

A Kohler engine with only 700 hours of operation on it shouldn't bee in need of a rebuild if it has had regular oil changes every 25 hours of operation. As Randy said, you should be using 30 rather than 10 W 30. Also, be sure you are not overfilling the oil.

Wire dimension is a depending on Several things primary Current consumption (A) and cablelenght.(m) And cabletype ( singleinsulated doubleinsulated in a Package or free) resulting in resistance and voltage Loss. And serveral things more. For a Tractor with fixed 12Volts you can use a simple thumbrule to estimate what you need. I get little more up for more safety and less resistance while continouse use at full Load. Cause my timeline at lunch is short just a few options in square mm / meter = sqm ( there are lots of calculators online in AWG) up to 10A = 0,75 sqm up to 15A = 1,5 sqm up to 20A = 2,5 sqm up to 30A = 4 sqm up to 50A = 6 sqm up to 60A = 10 sqm up to 80A = 16 sqm up to 120A = 25 sqm up to 180A = 35 sqm up to 225A = 50 sqm So i used for a Starter on my Wheelhorse Engine a 25sqm, what seems a bit oversized. please install in each power wire a fitting Fuse close to the Battery. so you be safe in case of any Fail. I use an 80 A Fuse for the Whole battery system to Starterwire and a 25A fuse to ignition Key And out of ignition key to each consumer a fitting fuse. so no system can be flatened another and a seek for a fail goes quick. different colors simplify that even more. ($25 set) I set my max at about 17 or 18 figuring if I get it great, if not no worries... No one else bid so I got em for 17 or so shipping included.
