14 pointsSo, Rylee worked her tail off doing all Jim’s dirty work. She ran the disc, ran the drag, swapped a battery, who knows what else she ran around doing... I traded child labor and some 701 gear to him and we tugged it back to Michigan! I pulled this in the shop last night and tugged a couple times. The Clinton engine didn’t cough or anything, so I started by checking spark. I’ve got nothing. I’ll have to grab a manual here and see what it takes to make fire in the hole!

9 pointsStepped out my shop door this morning on my way to work and here's what was looking at me. I started getting closer and started snorting at it, it did not run but just stared at me got about 20 feet away from it. Who needs a gun ,all I need is a rock!

9 pointsAfter Rylee got her leg a bit hot, she jumped on the Super C and let Mrs. P take the RJ for a spin. Shortly after, the super C lost a ammeter wire and died on the trail. @Achto received a Rylee sized pilot on Gretel’s 520 for the rest of the ride through the neighbor’s place while I got the C back to home camp. There were more than just tractor rides. Rylee disced and dragged the fire break and Jim’s field area, Dale popped a little too big ‘a wheelie and reared that Ford over almost on top of him, spilled his drink and spit some bearings out the case of his Peerless, we burned plenty of wood, ate way too much food and even laughed about stuff!

8 pointsSo, my crazy family and a I drove about 380 miles to Jim and Cindy’s this weekend. It was great, other than Mrs. P getting schmucked in the forehead by a stray stick at the bonfire! She’s a trooper and iced and walked it off. Thanks again WI crew, we missed you @PeacemakerJack! @oldiron613 it was great to meet you and ride your Pond lever steer!

8 pointsYesterday's fun...Gettin things together as i can... Clara being her usual watchful (lol) helpful self... Y'all have a great day😊

8 pointsA big THANK YOU to our host Jim & Cindy. As always they work their tail off to make sure we were all fed and had a good time. Also a thank you to "Pumpkin Farmer Steve" for letting us trail ride on his land and park campers in his woods. It was great to hang out with every one. Taking a cruise on @oldiron613's Pond tractor was awesome!! It sure looked like he also had fun tooling around on a couple of my rides. Mr & Mrs P seem to have been our photo crew . I still need to look through my pics to see if I have anything to add.

8 pointsI have got to get me a piece of that organizer plywood. Mine is just the regular kind that stuff just lays on and builds up into piles.

6 pointsI made replacement axles for my Rat Rod. Some 1" round stock a mill and/or drill press is all you will require. I know that @pullstart has both of those tools in stock. The new axles that I made for my Suburban Rat Rod. I replaced both woodruff keys in each axle with straight cut key ways, full length on the hub side. .

6 pointsYou bet Jim. I've only seen 3 or 4 factory Clinton powered 401's which all fall into a close serial number range. This one pictured is the one I have that's 8 serial numbers off from Rylee's. The 1290B is shown in WH documentation I've seen as an avaliable engine for the 401. I've never seen any documentation on a "budget model" but just think that none of Clinton powered 400 or 401's I've seen so far having had fenders is more than a coincidence. Just my theory anyway.

6 pointsSince my Edward mower didn’t some self destructive work, I popped a 36” deck on Leroy. It needed a modern style mid mount Tach-A-Matic, but was otherwise straight forward. Now, I can use this to keep the field mowed until the September wedding reception.
-
6 pointsRob, I’ll see what it takes to get the Clinton going, for sure. I love Kohlers as much as the rest of y’all, but if it ain’t broke I’ll keep the hammer in the tool box this time! It won’t take too much to pop the flywheel off and get the points cleaned up.
-
6 pointsCongrats @pullstart! That's actually a pretty rare (and original) tractor your daughter has. I'm 100% positive that Clinton is the original engine to that tractor. The 1107 spec # on the engine s a Wheel Horse sepc. There is a very small handful of 400's and early 401's that got left-over 1959 Clinton B1290 engines which I have one of and the Clinton serial # on yours is only 8 numbers from mine. Of the known Clinton powered 401's also, none have fenders which makes me think that these were probably lesser expensive "economy" models that had the left over Clinton engines without fenders. So, if you still want to swap the engine for a Kohler which I personally wouldn't do as much as I like Kohler's myself, keep that original Clinton on the shelf... or sell it to me. Rob

6 pointsNot only are you raining on my parade Kev you are stealing my thunder... It's all good tho.. You guys ever see a guy givin mouth to mouth on a hot carb?!?! Stay tuned for the rest of the story!

6 pointsSo that 753... good runner until you fill the tank! On a second ride of Saturday, we topped off the tanks and headed out. For those who have been there before, we were across the street for last year’s plow field back in the woods when the 753 I was riding decided to start acting like it was running out of fuel. It would half sputter and run with full choke, but no other way. We used Jason’s pocket knife and a crescent wrench to determine the fuel pump was supplying ample amounts of fuel to the carb, but the passageway to the needle and seat for the float had clogged! Al and his big monster stretched Super Cub turned IH Farmall came to the rescue and pulled me out of the woods, away from the mosquito birds and back to the ranch again!

5 pointsThanks again, Jim (@WHX24) for the invite and hospitality! I really wish I could have spent the rest of the day as I really had a blast. It was great meeting everyone! I'm glad everyone enjoyed the lever steer Pond as it felt really good to get it out of the garage and played with. I love the pictures and videos in this thread; thanks everyone for taking so many! But all these pictures of pretty tractors and not one picture of my favorite tractor on display... so here, I'll fix that! Rob

5 pointsRemember when I said that 753 shoulda’ had a fuel system checkup? Jim told me to have one of my girls change the battery and it’s good to go. Plus, whoever did the work could drive it first! Rylee to the rescue... just like running the disc and drag! Well, it ran real good, till we got to the most thickest mosquito field and it sputtered right out. The pump was pumping, the carb wasn’t giving. We thought maybe the main jet was clogged, so I WAITED FOR JIM TO GET HIS CAMERA OUT then gave the old girl a little whistle to make her work... she just wasn’t ready to work!

5 pointsFirst off thank you Mr. Bush @oldiron613 for bringing that fine fine pre WH Pond and even better letting us tool around on it. This is what you get for your generousity... a tool on Dan's just about as rare McLean... topped off by even rarer diesel! It was a really great time and I cannot even begin to express the efforts the Alberts gang who drove 12 + hrs to crap in my camper! Not even to mention Mrs P takin one for the team to have a nice fire. I mean we got mafias that wet their fingers and grab the plug to check for spark for the team but thus is way above and beyond. The Alberts are real lucky I let them take a daughter home.. I was ready to adopt! This gal not only disced the whole plow field she had the moxie to come up and ask me " what's up next mister"! So I fetched a bed spring and she leveled off everything and and the fire lane to boot! I'd had some seed on hand dang near sure she woulda planted it too!

5 pointsRylee found an RJ that she could mostly teach the pedals. It sparked her flame yet again to build her own RJ! It also reminded us that the first 45 elbow out of the head sure gets hot to the touch on a 10 year old’s calf! She, like her Mommy, walked it off and couldn’t wait to hop on it again! Rylee had a lesson in changing a battery on a 753 too. Too bad we didn’t give her a lesson in cleaning the fuel system, huh Jim @WHX24?

4 pointsProblem solved. My replacement belt was only 1/2 width instead of 5/8 inch width. I picked up a new 5/8 x 82 from Tractor Supply and it works great. Thank you all and especially "ebinmaine" who answered my question spot on with the necessary belt dimensions. I think the belt that finally broke was the original from 1974. I do not remember ever removing all the necessary sheet metal to get to it. Hopefully this replacement will last that long.

4 pointsWell today I stripped the 520 down for a though cleaning. This machine only has 318 hrs on the clock but what a mess! I've never owned a rear discharge deck but this is making me think rear discharge isn't a great idea with a hydro tractor. I've never seen so much debris packed in the rear as on this one. All the dirt and clippings blow out the back for the hydro fan to blow all over the transaxle. Oh well she cleaned up well. The bad, seems oil is leaking some where. The right side or fan side was encrusted in dirt that looks to be oil soaked. Now that its clean I have a shot at finding what is leaking. Second, I've already experienced electrical gremlins. It charges at 17+volts verified with a meter. I cleaned all terminals on the VR and mounted it with a new bolt. Still 17+. Also the head lights only work sometimes. I've replaced and cleaned all fuses and will work my way through all electrical connections. My neutral switch was jumped, found that after it wouldn't turn over after cleaning. New switch is probably needed. Good news, the Onan runs like a top and has zero debris in the cooling fins. BTW does Toro still sell the rattle cans of paint? I need to redo the floor board and I've used tat years ago.

4 pointsYup under the flywheel... one of the bad things about a B1290. Kinda like a Briggs with the points down under. Condensor is there too. Nice thing about Clintons is the points never gave near so much trouble as the Briggs. Bet they just need to cleaned from sitting & 18-20 is good. Fresh gas too. The Kohler swap we talked about is not a bad idea as that's what was probably in it originally. I think the Clinton may have been a dealer service swap. Check the screws holding the updraft air filter 90 degree to the carb I remember those like to come loose. Thanks for the manual Garry that one I did not have. You need more manuals Kev I have a bunch of others.

4 pointsKevin was close on this, my actual term for them is "Jesus cruisers". Don't remember where I got that term from but it has always stuck with me.
-
4 pointsBig old chunk of crap in the the inlet seat Kev. It still had the older style inlet seat with the rubber in the inlet instead of on the tip of the needle. In a can of berrymans now and will get that clutch issue sorted out while she's in the shop. So when getting ready for trail rides I told Kev to pick out some tractors to ride. For some reason he gravitated to the round hoods in the herd and the Super C that need some love in the shop! I'm still welted up from the horse flies and skeeters! I didn't get many pics but Cindy stole a few good ones off the mafia FB page. I'll get them up.
-
4 pointsC-125 has been a bit of a pig to start and I've not been able to get it to idle to my satisfaction. Points, plug etc all checked and ok. So as I'm not needed at the farm, I decided to change the fuel pump as I had a spare. Started much better and I've got it idling better. It doesn't die and stop now. Idles a bit fast for me, so I'll maybe root out my hand held tachograph and see what rev's it's doing.

4 pointsalmost! Jim and Dan have a bunch of 701 parts and needed some of mine too. I feel like I got the better end of the deal, but it was his idea This is a 401 I believe, minus the diamond tread tires that were on the back. I tossed on some Silvertownes for now and they look just dandy to me! I talked to @stevasaurus on the way home, found me a Binny’s and some Wheel Horse Whiskey!

4 pointsInstalled a set of auxillary lighting, in the form of an HL-5 kit. Was nice to discover them hiding in my inventory here today.

4 pointsCovered a few miles yesterday. 12-30pm phone call. Eldest daughter. Locked out of her car somewhere in the Lake District, where she and a friend were wild swimming. They'd the bright idea of locking the car, an Audi, and hiding the keys in the boot/trunk leaving that unlocked. Doesn't work does it. Boot open, lock car, place keys in boot, shut boot. Which of course automatically locks. Clothes, phones etc inside. Blondes! Lady lent her, her phone to call me. Collected her spare keys and number 3 son and of to the rescue. I got home for 3-30pm just in time for a phone call from the farm. So from 4 to 10pm I was driving a tractor and trailer, leading silage from field to farm.

3 pointsAt 5.30 am I was painting those parts that were prepped yesterday before the heat, then mowed the lawn with the 312 and took a trail ride on both the C-120 and the 417-8. Overall a productive and fun day with plenty of seat time.
