Firstly, I have to admit that I need to remember this "Other Brands" part of the forum! I thought I'd share a picture of our Speedex model B lineup. These were Harold Pond's very first riding tractors that were made beginning in 1939 through 1943'ish. Like most small manufactures of this era, they were continuoulsly changing the tractor design to improve both the tractor itself, as well as ease of manufacturing. Our set consists of an example of each year they were manufactured - 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942 and presumably 1943. I think Pond Speedex history is important as it was at this time that Elmer and Cecil were working for Harold, assembling and selling Speedex tractors, before going out on their own in 1946 which their Pond lever steer tractor dirived from.

To hot to work outside today so time to work in the A/C part of the shop. Charger 10 becoming a Charger 16. (This will be my 3rd Charger/Electro 16) Going to need a new Choke cable and some wiring repairs thanks to the darn mice.... The 10 hp Techy worked OK when she was completely warmed up, not so cold.. Not a good thing for a winter plow tractor. Two different carbs and no difference. MY L107 Techy starts year round and is ready to run immediately...

My wife was talking about the potential need for our relocation to an assisted living facility some day. I told her to start looking for one with a big workshop and a garden spot to be plowed.

Such machines are called a diamond in the rough. Just their facettes must be brought back to shine again. Same thing with the Silver Opel i own now. This are great little machines they have a enough suited Power for their Job but on the other hand this are mostly unloved Machines most PO just use them with less care. They need a Person who sees the Diamant in them. In terms of the „allway‘s higher wider better“ battle they be not kept as they have to be, because they not on the upper Limit on their Engines. In the eyes of most, they not worth to go in that Battle. So most of them quits their life as unloved „things“. but with a bit more Care, they be Partners for a whole Life. so i‘m hope i also can bring that Diamant back to shine.

It would just be an empty shop without them.

I love them girls! They won’t ever admit, but they’re best friends too. They travel like little troopers. We’re 800 miles from home and have stopped twice for bathroom breaks. Not a complaint from either one.

No problem with battery even clears oil level switch. Only clearance issue will be the strap on the muffler may touch the hood. may have to do some adjustment.

Found a few more pics of your machine giving rides to visitors Stefan If not for your circumstance looking for another Wheel Horse, I’m not sure if this would have ever left my possession. It’s rough around the edges but reliable as a Grandpa taking you fishing!

Transmission is a bit noisyer now so may have to tune it back a bit. But looking back at what I started no surprise. Also painted up a set of wide Cub style rims Kev give me for some V-61's for her.

I just cannot believe how few quality tractors seem to be available. I had a good year lat year as they just seemed to find me. I got some important parts to finish a 8 horse(Thanks Eric] a complete 8 horse, a ten horse engine, Stuff like that. Since i am in west Ohio, every little hardware store could sell the red tractors. if you look at our own site, there are not any within driving distance. i am guessing that since we really cannot go to shows and meet each other that a lot of people are hanging on to tractors and fixing them up. The ones that are still out there are for much higher prices on average. i am blessed with project tractors, so nothing to complain about. i just wondered if my area is in a slump or if others had noticed the same thing?.

I got the trenchers loaded with fluid and mounted today. She stayed planted on the hill for the first descent. On the second, it popped out of gear and went for a wild ride about halfway down. Luckily, i was able to steer out of it and avoid the ditch and neighbors house. On the third try, i held the gear shifter in place as a precaution and had no issues. I may still add wheel weights as a precaution.

All we do is work on our little tractors and play around the yard with her wheel horse machines , as like me I do the same but sometimes I will drive my tractor up by the shop and sit beside it just to smell the gas and oil! Am l wrong ??

Probable CL Add: "PO told me it ran when parked. Rare classic - Don't make 'em like this anymore... Original tires - cracked but hold air (while filling). Gas it up and go... $500 FIRM"

We took a two hour snooze on the side of the on-ramp with a couple other truck drivers. We’ve got about 150 miles to go.... I guess my 1000 mile mark was closer to 1150 each way

I got lucky several times this year. and i am always buying trading you name it. Traded a 65 jd 112 hydraulic lift for this one even up. the jd ran but poorly and need alot of tlc. This no name runs great doesnt smoke and everything works as it should. I am technically the 4th owner. then I got a 1976 D-160 for free! But i had to drive almost 4hrs 1 way to get it. well worth the gas money. I have dumped almost $500 in it. and $400 is tires. Then I got a tiller for $20. I have also gotten a few other items dirt cheap but there the wrong color. LOL

That's exactly where my wife and I are at now. We've eliminated some assisted living places because the cottages didn't have garages big enough for a work shop. Told the wife that I'm taking at least two of my ten WHs with us. I'm fighting the eventuality with all my might, but my knees and my back tell me that the day will come. Also, my wife's mother lived to be a hundred, so I have to think of Ann's future as well as mine. For now, I'm glad to have the Horses to keep me moving during the pandemic. I've rebuilt two engines, and restored two WHs during the isolation. I've heard stories of men who have gone to assisted living, and regretted it every time they saw a friend's workshop. For now, I'll keep fighting it. Jim

    @bottjernat1... Aren't you a "Beaver" man?
  43. 3 points
As far as monetary value I should think that price would be pretty fair given that much much less rare horses demand higher on the gold plated market. We really haven't gotten into collecting tractors, just to have a collection, but if I did I would be all over that.... I don't know enough about those as a brand to tell you what parts availability would be. I guess if you had to make or modify stuff to fit that might be part of the adventure. You've shown a -decent skill level for that.

I can!t say if you’re right or wrong Randy, but it’s a fact. Addictions are hard to kick... especially when they feel so good. I don’t see these little guys ever going away for me, unless something forces them out in a hard way. Even then, I imagine they’ll sneak back to the stable in a hurry!

I thought that I would share a few pics from our holiday weekend. We kind of decided to let Sophi be our guide for the weekend, so I'll start with a picture of her in her favorite spot in the boat. Up on the bow showing the way & watching for danger. She has enough experience in the boat to know when it is safe to take up this spot, in rough water or as soon as she hears the engine start she will move to the lowest level of the boat. It was really hot out so she also got dunked in the water a time or two. I'm not a big fan of raking the lawn, but I am a huge fan of raking the lake. Here is our spread of 6 lines trolling at about 1.7mph. I can comfortably run 9 lines in my boat but unfortunately Sophi does not count as a licensed fisherman. Being a gentleman I let my wife Gretel take the first strike, her reward was a fair sized white bass. Gretel also brought in the nicest catch, stupid phone camera decided that the moment was not worth capturing. I noticed this fact later and took a pic before I cleaned the fish up. A 19" walleye, on the high end of the slot limit for the lake that we were on. Sophi is pretty good at following along on a walk with out a leash. When we went for early evening walk she insisted that we follow her for a bit. She took us to the beach & sat down as to say "check this out Mom & Dad" She lead us to a really great view to end the day. We had a great weekend. Sorry @pullstart, things went well so Radpferd still has a home. The worst thing that happened was a loss of balance by Gretel resulting in me having a hook buried in my thumb and nothing strong enough in the boat to cut the barb off of the hook. We each put 3 more fish in the boat before she insisted that we go in and get the lure out of my thumb. Hope everyone had a good holiday.

Since our town didn't have any 4th of July activities, we held our own small parade up and down our private road. Began by washing the fleet All clean and tidy Making preparations, flags mounted Riders ready to go After the parade we parked them up by the road Flags flying in the breeze Later we had a bonfire with my brother's family and one of our neighbors spent a bunch of money and put on a pretty decent fireworks show. God bless America!
