As some of you know I am a seafarer and spend half my life away from home. We all work a shift pattern and it's not uncommon to struggle to find anyone to talk to, they are asleep or working while you are free. In the modern era it's even worse, we used to spend a lot of time in the ships bar - they have banned drinking now. People just seen to melt away into cabins and watch endless movies to entertain themselves. I have a bit more imagination than that and like to try and keep my mind active - I once made a life size cow out of cardboard boxes just for something to do.... Anyway, lately I have been building things out of wooden stirring sticks - we have a lot onboard for the passengers. A couple of weeks ago a challenge was issued to see who could build the coolest thing. Out of a crew of 36 there have been 5 challengers - not many creative types then! My project is to build a 360 excavator, will post progress for you as it comes together. So far have built the tracks and undercarriage. If anybody on here wants to join in your more than welcome 😁

Was browsing eBay the other day and came across these nice wheels with brand new tyres from a commando 8. Threw the minimum bid on, sorted out potential couriers then sat back waiting for the price to go crazy. Nobody else bid, and now they are mine for less than the tyres would cost - result!

Emory and I are with our good friends Joe and Clay on our way to the Southeast Old Thresher’s Reunion in Denton, NC. Likely to be the only tractor show we get to go to this year. We have a pop up camper, food to fix, drinks, masks, and hand sanitizer. Think we’re covered! We’re just going to avoid close contact with folks. We’ll be there tonight through Sunday. Look at the smile on the boys’ faces!!

I picked this up today. Even though my garage is jammed pack full of tractors I cant pass up a good deal when I see one. 1930's to mid 40's Coca-Cola Cooler. It isnt refrigerated so it makes refinishing it all the easier. I have done a few antique Ice Boxes in the past, this shouldnt be any different. Someone along the way painted it orange, maybe they liked Sunkist, or Orange Crush. It is in great shape otherwise. Missing the bottle cap catcher. See if I can get one, or have my friend make one. I will keep you all posted on the progress. The lettering is the only thing that worries me. I will have to do some research.

Caught a calm evening tonight, which is a pretty rare occurrence around here, so decided to take Krystopher fishing tonight. There is a little lake about a quarter mile from the house that was formed when an oil rig struck an artesian well years ago, the town keeps it stocked pretty good. We had a really good time, even if he did catch more fish than Dad

When I get home from work today I will hitching the camper on to the wife's Jeep and hitching the boat to my truck, then we are off for a weekend alone. This will be the very first time in our 29yrs together that just the two of us will be camping together. With any luck this is not a plot on her part to bury me in the woods or send me to the bottom of the lake. Have a safe weekend everyone!!

It took longer to find a wrench to get the guard off than to measure the bushing.

A couple things here before I get started. A hillbilly man I worked with many years ago often told me, “All women are beautiful, just some more than others.” I’m gonna one up him right now. All people are beautiful. They just don’t all look the same. Well, Uncle Jim... I’m not gonna go there. I am a fortunate man. We’ve had the opportunity to un-officially adopt a German girl we call our daughter but was just a foreign exchange student wanting to see America. We have chased her all over the world since then. We like to travel. We’ve put ourselves in situations that nobody can communicate via speaking. We ate a 4 course meal at a restaurant once in Germany in pitch black, with blind wait staff and no English used. English, German, Dutch, Mexican, I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU SPEAK. Treat me well, I’ll treat you well too. I’ve learned also a good point over the years. If you can’t understand a person in YOUR language, that does not mean they are dumb. That means that they know what they are trying to say, but are trying to help you understand it. Now, to the point. The part I started this thread for. The beloved Norman our 6 speed gear jamming diesel eating tractor show camping hauling machine has a blown head gasket or maybe cracked head(s) even. He came from Oklahoma. My wife and I started a search from the Virginias to Florida, to Texas. I found in Dallas, TX metro a Norman Jr. It’s an extended cab automatic diesel with a blown transmission. The kicker. The owner doesn’t speak English. I told him that I’ll do my bets to use Google Translate to communicate with him. He didn’t believe I’d come from MI to TX to get a truck that won’t move. I told him I would for the right truck, I’ve gotten one from OK before. HE BELIEVED ME! After some checking around, we figured out we have a 2nd and 3rd cousin in the area. They volunteered to look at it. Here’s another kicker. We’ve met Nik once before at our Great Grandmother’s funeral, some 8-ish years ago. He doesn’t have a bank that will accept wire transfers. He’s recently engaged and his fiancé GAVE US her bank account number, address, all the credentials to her account... so we could transfer a good sum to them to buy this truck. Another trusting leap of faith. Would you send thousands to someone you’ve never met and hope they come through with their end of the deal? They did. THEY ALL DID! Jose could have sold the truck to someone while the money transfer was happening. The cousins could have told us a bogus story that something went wrong and the money didn’t come through. Who knows what bad could’ve happened? Now, I’ve got a car dolly, an awesome wife who is willing to road trip it with me and the girls, and we’re leaving Sunday to TX to pick up a truck I asked someone to buy for me. Norman, Buddy... let’s go see the world!

I picked up a section of 3/4 spacer but as per usual its cheap roll formed junk not a piece of DOM. Probably doesn't matter at all in this application but it its lasted for over 40 yrs I'd like to give it a shot at the next 40. Mr Murphy and his laws are definitely on the side of the prosecution everytime he gets near me and my projects! And I'm sure I'll find the old one as soon as I've cut the box store garbage and installed it. I'll probably see it leaving Earth's orbit as it exits the underside of the mower deck at the speed of light!

Rebuilt the On the Ran it down the length of the driveway and down the hill to the road @ a 1/4 mile away. The last time I did that it spit and sputtered, didn't think I was going to make it back to the barn. This time it ran perfect plenty of power and sounded great. It even shut off with out the usual backfire. Now just clean up the rims and this tractor has found a home. It's definitely a keeper

From Eric Church’s “Livin’ Part of Life” “Tomorrow I’m taking me fishin, hang a sign on the door of my life. Tell the world that I’ve gone missin’ and I won’t be back for a while...” Fishing ain’t always catching, it’s being in nature and the allure of water glistening peaceful, rolling 6’ high or running down a mountain. We all need more time fishin! Awesome stuff, Bryce!

Good gravy! Its 603 miles from tip to tip on our country, and that takes three weeks by mail coach! Couldn't imagine a road trip like yours. Plus our roads are completely pants. Driving is not a pleasure. And the price of petrol, it would cost...wait a minute... 10 million pounds to go that far! Good luck pullstart family

This old pop cooler is less than 3 minutes from my home, old farm house is surrounded by caraganna a very invasive species brought over with the homesteaders used as a wind break. Refrigeration unit would more than likely had an induction repulsion motor and used sulphur dioxide as the refrigerant..

I am DJ Beard Man for the holiday weekend!! LOL I am the DJ for my wife's niece's wedding. Like I have said before I am a jack of all trades master of none. I love my tractors and I love music! I have had a passion for music since i was a kid. I was in the foster care system for years and bounced around from home to home so music was my escape form everything around me. I dont have anything fancy im using my laptop with 300 gb of music and either my tv surround sound or a 80 watt Bluetooth speaker that i just bought. It pumps out some serious sound. I dj'd my old friends wedding a couple years ago I used my tv surround sound and it was outdoors in the woods. It was super loud and everyone was gettin down.

Not much Eric, staying home, probably work on the tractors, stay out of the sun, and really hot part of the day. And just enjoy these 4 days off with the little lady. Then it will be back to building houses.

The Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Dept here in Maine hosts a couple Free Fishing weekends every year. (No license required) This year they made the whole month of April free. Trina was born and raised "all country" and used to fish in the streams when she was younger. I hadn't ever been small stream fishing. We went out back of the house here and had the time of our lives catching Brook trout that were a muscle straining 4" long. Loved it.
