So, back in January, I had a fellow from NY get in contact with me over the subject of a 1937 Briggs & Stratton engine I had for sale. Long story short, he said he had a seaplane, and asked if I'd hold it till summer when he could take it up.. Not being too big and not being in a rush to move it, I took him up on it.. Well, the day finally came. He flew up from the Adirondacks in this Cessna 195, met him out on Great East Lake in Shapleigh, ME. Aboard a 1958 MirroCraft.. Quite the job switching them from the little boat to the plane, the plane's pontoon nearly submerged with 3 of us standing on it. Had to get pictures.. nobody would believe me otherwise hahah. The old engine is going back to good use at last. Glad to see it being useful.

Have had these tires on rims in my shed for years, just dragged em out, power washed them and got em installed. All these years I had thought they were 23/10.5’s on the wide rims cause they are so wide looking. I never looked at the size on the side. To my surprise they are only 9.5 wide . They sure look wide!

Assembled the deck. Going to let it sit outside unless we get some rain. Waiting for the decals to arrive from @Vinylguy . Might see if I can go over to where the tractor is and grab 2 wheels off it. I will put it up on jack stands, paint 2 , bring them back and grab the other 2. Guess I will paint them silver, I think thats what they were originally. Hard to tell.

Hello! I’m new to this forum and to WH tractors. I grew up with an 8N and loved riding around on it and doing little jobs around our property. Now I’m living on a much smaller piece of land and don’t “need” a tractor, but I want to be able to share the experience with my kids. Somehow, I set my mind on Wheelhorse tractors and started keeping an eye on Facebook and Craig’s List. It doesn’t look like many WH tractors live in Maryland. Maybe there wasn’t really a dealer network here. Or maybe it’s just that everything dusts you pieces here. Anyway, I finally found one in PA and picked it up yesterday. It’s a 1970 Raider 12 with the Tecumseh engine, along with a mower deck, front blade, and a snow blower. It’s in pretty good shape for its age. I had today off work, so I got the carb off, cleaned it, and reinstalled. After adjusting it, it now runs a lot better. It needed constant choke before... and constant fiddling between throttle and choke to keep it going. Now it will idle properly with no choke, and I believe I’m getting a little more too end out of it, too. I also replaced the idler pulley, as it had completely lost its bearings and was just being held in place by the belt. Fortunately, the Toro dealer right down the road had it in stock! Check out the condition of that original seat!

She and the kids will have fun finding things that NEED to be dug up and moved. Doubt that you will ever get a chance to use the loader yourself.

Josh my boy in WV has kept me on my toes for the past 3 months with his Federal Yellow and White collection it has been a "frustrating" but rewarding process as I only get to help him physically once every couple weeks then trying to explain how things work/go over the phone but nonetheless he has a 70s 1200 and then late 80s a 1211 Kohler Magnum 12 hydro and 1606 Briggs Vangaurd 16 Hi/Lo 3spd I just can't get him on a red WH he wants a red 82 series... Anyways what I done to my WH today "new" shoes on the rear of the 414-8 from 23x8.50s Carlisle Turf Savers to 23x9.50s Carlise Turf Masters

One of the nice things with the loader is, if she will let me teach her, Kelli will be able to move a variety of things by herself that she otherwise couldn’t or wouldn’t. I love the fact that it is for her tractor and so she is already comfortable with that machine. It is all about learning the controls for the Bucket. As much as I like new toys, if the kids and wife can safely and comfortably use a machine like that to accomplish yard projects—I’ll let them have all the seat time they want

If you are definitely going to use chains, the turf tires would work best. Turfs will keep more of the chain in contact than a ag tire. Oh, and to the

There is enough clearance for chains. Doubt I’ll install chains, it’s just a tractor I’m building cause I’m bored ! Have no need for it, just like having a project to tinker on.

Back at the 420 today and straightened out the side of the tunnel where the brake rod goes in from the pedal. Looks like someone had tried to pry on it for some reason, got out a 2x4 with a couple screws and fender washers and a ball peen hammer to flatten it out some then removed the 2x4 and used a dolly and hammer to finish it off. Pulled everything inside the tunnel out, all shafts and motion control lever and will clean it up and replace anything that needs it. The picture of the roll pin set was used to knock out broken cotter pins where there should have been hairpins, that set has always worked very well and durable. A few pics of painted items for both the 310 and the 420. My hat goes off to all of you who take on full blown restorations and builds, you are all amazing and gluttons for punishment.

These treasures are Pat's finds from yesterday. The crude copper vessel has some extraordinary seam work where the smith joined the copper ends together. Not sure what the glass jar with the pump was used for but it would look good on the breakfast table filled with maple syrup. The cat someone drop off at our yard two years ago when she was just a kitten.

The above guys are right. You will need a lathe and a machine shop to make the parts to get it to run. They are just not available anymore. If you can get it for nothing, it will make one heck of a lawn ornament, and you will have people stopping by to see if you want to sell it. You could put 300 Wheel Horses that run , in a collection for less money then you would waste messing with that. They had one like that...about that size...a few years ago at the steam show in Sycamore, Ill. It sat for 4 days and finally the guy was willing to let it go for $50. (he did not want to haul it out of there again). I do not know if he sold it. There is a certain fascination with these hit and miss engines, but if it is not a runner, you can bury a lot of bucks in one and never get it to run. If you have to have one, find one that runs (not that big)...clean it and put it in your dining room to show. The alternate best advise, go to a steam show near you with your lawn chair, and sit and talk with the people that have them running. After 4 days of listening to a hit and miss...well, just go to all the shows that satisfy the craving. Money well spent. Hey, there is a jar of something with a lid on it there. There was a song from the 50's that had to do with a well and pump and the jar with the primer water sat there. You could drink the water out of the jar, or you could take a chance and prime the pump and have all the water you would ever need...the song was about taking that chance. I wonder if I can find that on You-Tube. I found it. https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=C3T-7bbhkeg&list=RDAMVMC3T-7bbhkeg

Hey I got one on the flying A Plunge... send it to ya if I can finger out how to permanently bypass it . Ain't doing any good ty-wrapped closed like this. Supposed to be the safety switch on the deck lever. @squonkmight know of a source? I called it the refrigerator door light switch!

It's such a satisfying skill. I've lost the art all these years later, but I remember being taught to look for the direction of impact, and reverse it. Man, when you nail that the first time and ~80% of the panel pops back into shape... Bondo?!?! Puh-shaw...

Nice hammer and dolly work! I took BOCES bodywork classes in High School. One of the first things our teacher Mr. Pender taught us was manually working steel.
  43. 3 points
of course they are worth something but i highly doubt you will ever find all the missing parts to make it run. it looks cool that's about it. if your looking for a hit miss engine your better off looking for a running one and complete one.

Remember last weekend when I offered a shiny dollar to anyone who could identify where this set screw goes and @953 nut came through, well I still owe him a dollar but... And remember when I said I was pretty sure there was a set screw in the shifter? I wasn't wrong, kinda. Today I thought, maybe I oughta clean the dirt off the end of that set screw and have a look. And I found this: Clearly the set screw broke off in the shifter mounting boss. This job is going to have to wait until I remove the trans-axle from the machine. But hey, my shifter isn't popping out...for now...

Today I just fixed the parking brake pawl. A little bit of welding and a little bit of grinding! Also just ordered the correct seals from Wheelhorse parts and more , and painted the deck as well. It had three holes in the deck and I put patches and all of them! my hats off to Jollet and I hope I spelled her name right. She is A real hoot! Great service there!

Cleaned and sanded the 48" deck off the new 416-8. Deck is solid all around. No holes, not even any weak spots. Got the blades off for sharpening. Getting it ready for some paint. I am not going to take it all apart to paint it. Just want it to look a little better. Not painting the tractor so its going to look a little off anyways. I got Regal Red. See what that looks like. Also picked up new air filter, plug, fuel filter, and oil for it.

Worked on some messed up hubs for @Snoop@ICI I have seen some bad ones but these were the worst. No idea how they ever even stayed on the tractor. The one side walked in so far the woodruff decided to do a little machining of it's own! Did manage to save them both.

Got the "old man lift " out and started the mechanical over view.

Sometimes they help and do it because they want to, other times I have to encourage them to do so. However, I know in the long run it is very beneficial to them. They learn the proper use of mechanical tools, critical thinking skills, how things are assembled, observing what REAL quality is so that they are more able to spot cheap substitutes in the future, a general mechanical knowledge for times when they may need it and I’m not around, the list could go on. My kids enjoy their gaming system for sure but I try to make sure it stays balanced with things that have a much greater importance to their future well being.
