17 pointsI picked this one off the curb today. I'll paint the frame and clean up the engine for my 6 month old Grand Nephew's first birthday.

13 pointsRetro mowing! Can you feel the nostalgia 1964 still working it's way through 2020! Wheelhorse model 704, 1964 vintage cutting and laying the grass down so nice with it's rear discharge deck. Re-installed the hood so she could shine her true colors. Unfortunately lost one of the thumb screws along the way. I guess that star lock washer does hold some merit, oops. Love the finish this old gal leaves on the lawn and dare I say I actually enjoy mowing the lawn!

8 pointsof course they did... I haven’t checked my mail this week nor watched the news... must be why that chopper was flying by?
-
7 pointsLooking at one, Seems like a pretty good Garden Tractor for the money. 10hp Kohler with the mowing deck. Anyone have any knowledge of them ?
-
6 pointsThey were headed my direction... Zach got another opportunity to drive his GT-14 and pull the wagon. I need to make him a hitch pin setup that is easier for him to work. He wants to hook it up by himself but he isn’t strong enough to pull the spring clip...yet. Hey...at least in that pic from Kevin, Rylee was practicing safe social distancing with herself

5 pointsUpdate on Scottie: Since Scottie's last surgery in February, we have been working on retraining his bladder and urethra. We were scheduled to see his surgeon in later March early April for a follow up and to make a plan moving forward, however with the COVID-19 pandemic going on, Scottie's appointment was cancelled and never rescheduled. It was a blessing in disguise as we were able to listen to Scott's body and go accordingly to his own needs. Everything was going good for his retraining, he was able to be capped for about 2 months and he was able to pee without difficulty. His body woke him up at night to go to the bathroom, he was able to urinate and empty out his bladder without having much in his bladder. Everything was going the way Scottie wanted. It was not until this past Monday May 11, 2020 that Scottie woke up and was not feeling well. He had a terrible stomach cramp and an uncontrollable bladder spasm that was not reacting to his bladder spasm medication. I monitored him and he was running a low grade fever of 100.9 and he was unable to keep sips of water down. I called his surgeon and asked him if I could give him the antibiotic that I had from his previous hospitalization. That is when we were told to go the ER in Rochester to have an ultrasound done for his kidneys and to have a urine culture done. We went to the ER and it was confirmed that Scottie did in fact have a bladder infection and infection in his kidney. They sent us home with the antibiotic we had at home for 14 days and told us that they would call us back after the culture in three days. Since we have returned home Monday, Scottie has had fevers and has thrown up. The ER nurse called me today and informed me that the antibiotic that we were sent home was found to be ineffective and that they had to start him on another antibiotic. He started that today and I need to keep monitoring him for decreased urine output, persistent fevers, throwing up, and decreased intake to call the on-call urology and go back to the ER and be admitted for IV antibiotics. We are praying that this new antibiotic works and that Scottie can stay home and not go to the hospital for the IV antibiotics. If all goes well by the end of summer Scottie will no longer have the supra pubic catheter, but only time will tell if he will form the scar tissue in the urethra. Thank you for keeping our family and our son Scottie in your thoughts and prayers and we will continue to update you.

5 pointsWhy would you ever want to paint over " shut off ***** " ? They other question would be... Why would you ever want to shut it off? I think the answer is obvious.

4 pointsGuy had a C120 hydro minus engine listed for a song, 4 miles away. I thought heck, maybe parts I need or a complete donor trans for the 1277. Came home with this. I now have two working 8 speeds, a potential working hydro, and a crap ton of parts. Oh, and he threw in a 42” mower deck with no holes. I don’t even know what the heck I bought🤣 according to the decals a C120, C81, and two mystery machines. Any guesses?
-
4 pointsCheck this little guy out! It’s on the local CL but I can’t pull the trigger. It sure is unique!
-
4 pointsWell struck out again. Went to the local hardware store to try to find some I struck out on everything. They didnt have any of those shaft collars, they didnt have and chain, and they didnt have a lug nut as I am missing one. Suprised me because this is one of those old school hardware stores that generally has everything. So I went to NAPA to see if they had at least the lug nut ... nope. Tomorrows another day ! I did manage to sand the hood and look what I found under the old STP sticker

4 pointsYou should see the road to Silloth, Mark. Been very quiet for 8wks except for HGV's and locals. Today you'd have thought it was a Bank Holiday with the traffic. "We can go anywhere now". "Let's go to the seaside". "Let's stop at this village shop on our way". A neighbour went there for some milk today. She said it was really busy and the lasses serving said it's been chaotic. And not with locals. Also hear today a woman in the next hamlet, a mile and a half away, has just died from Covic-19. Back on topic. Got the lean to roof felted.

4 pointsNice! Could hook it up with a long belt to the PTO off one of your WH's with a wobble hitch...Can you say "Auto rocker"...
-
4 pointsRegardless of what your told, it's current worth is what you and the seller agree to.
-
4 pointsLet me elaborate on my earlier answer which is to paint it. Looking around my shop one would ask also why do I recommend painting it when I have so many different old storage cabinets and I did not decide to paint them all in one color? Besides wheel horses I am also a collector of literally hundreds of different items, such as woodworking tools, vises, and countless numbers of antiques. I know as well as anyone else with interest in these old things the value and the appeal of an untouched item. Many times in a majority of the items I collect, just cleaning them alone, will destroy their value, and therefor their marketability. I also think that one cannot argue with people's tastes since like they say "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder". Like everyone else here I am a big recycler, and opportunist, therefor all the different unmatched items furnishing my shop. Some that were in bad shape I painted them in battleship gray my favorite color for all utilitarian shop items, but many are left as found. Painting that cabinet will make it look as a unit with the adjacent ones. If you put labels on them in the provided areas they will also look better and be more visible. By the way for labels on metal cabinets I use magnetic printable sheets that I cut to fit in those slots. They are better than paper and stay put. Bottom line is that although there are interesting character marks on it such as the red labeling,it is not a unique item that needs to be left intact. If you would like to see it painted, do so and you will never think about it again. If not it is OK also. You can always do it at a later time if desired. It is whatever that makes you happy with it that will be the right choice. Regardless of your decision on color your decision on getting it and using it is a great one since they are great useful cabinets.

4 pointsLeave it Randy. Just use it and spend your time on a horse. Drawers are drawers. You’ll paint them and then they will get scratches on them and then you’ll be like “ why did I waste my time painting these?” ..... you want something to OCD about? I have a blue container and a red one. What to do?
-
4 pointsLike Eric said, it's a 1962. It's not the original engine. Originally an electric start but I'm guessing it's a pull start now because of the removal of the ammeter and switch. Still it looks decent and could be made into a nice machine. I'd say $150-200 around here.
-
4 pointsI'm not any kind of an expert on the older models but that doesn't sound anywhere near right to me. Suburban was only for one or two years. 552 would make it a 1962. 1964 there should have been an entirely different model number like 704. 854. Something like that.

4 pointsI personally use Kevlar belts on all of my tractors. I have had good luck with the Husky brand belts from Tractor Supply Company.

4 pointstodays exciting update dropped the oil... well some of it. turns out it was mainly water, makes sense knowing how rusty the axles are and how much oil has leaked. Probably each time there was a hard frost water was being pushed out. I've seen worse though, just needs a good clean. Axle seals arrived today, waiting for brake and input seals. Bearings all good though!

4 pointsDefinitely leave it alone. The wear and age gives it character. On top of that, it still has the lettering on it and in good shape. Maybe you could paint the black ones to match the green?
-
3 pointsOk, been in a cleanin and fixin mood lately and finally got a couple of parts bins put up with the help from my neighbor and need your all's opinion. Would you paint the green one's black to match my others? My OCD says yes, but my love of old cool things say no. There is one drawer missing, but I have a longer one that is just like them and need to shorten it, but the color won't match. I think they would clean up pretty good. Lets hear it guys!! Randy
-
3 points@WHX24 I cleaned them, can I still be in the club?? I also shortened the one that was too long. Randy
-
3 pointsDo it, do it, do it— Time to let that stretch it’s legs. I can’t remember what you use for a mower now but how fun would it be to occasionally get out the 704 just to give the neighbors something to talk about
-
3 pointsThanks @pullstart... Just got my garage almost cleaned out for the boat and now you post this... Would be the perfect quiet "Engine" for the SL&WHN RR... HHHMMMM....
-
3 pointsRide Away Junior... quit being used in late 1959 with the intro of the Suburban's and '60 models.
-
3 pointsThat's cool. Have any idea how old it is? I remember riding one when I was a kid. You might want to come up with a spring guard. Little fingers are tender.

3 pointsThat would be a 1962 model 552. It should have a Tecumseh 5hp engine. Looks like it could use some cosmetic help. Engine appears to have been replaced. Top dollar for me would be $300.
-
3 pointsNone in stock Chuck, but I am always looking. BTW, nice conversion. IMO, this was WH's best PTO design. No wires, no switches, and no moving parts.

3 pointsI think my dads Norlett confuses folk... . it was green when we got it in 2009 Norlett were gold or red. The only small frame they did were A-90 specials - badged Commander or T8-36
-
3 pointsJust wondering how Scott is doing after the last surgery? Been praying that things have healed properly.
-
3 pointsI like the Husky belts from TSC too. Two of my tractors use a 5/8" drive belt and I tend to stick with OEM for them but I'm thinking a Kevlar belt would work just as good. The TSC's around here have an excellent inventory of belts and I've never failed to find the right size.
-
3 pointsSounds like the folks next door. 6 "adults" drinking on a 5 x 8 deck. Kids playing tackle football in a yard strewn with debris. Can't fix stupid!
-
3 pointsour government laid out travel guidelines due to covid19. You were allowed out for one our of exercise. Basically walk out of your house and go for a walk. To most these rules were fairly simple. However we have a huge number of those who manage to say it was ambiguous and find ways of justifying driving miles to go for a walk. I live in a national park, car parks, businesses and toilets are closed. Everything is locked down... yet we have had scores of people coming to visit. Worse still they are coming to drink and party on the moors, it is madness. Fortunately we have had police present handing out fines and turning folk away. mad times!

3 pointsExcellent. After you soak it a few more days now that it’s moving you could try what I’ve done to a rusty tranny I had. Do you have access to an electric motor, and a way to rig a belt or chain to the tranny, or even to the axle? First I put a scrap of 1/2” plywood under the jack stands the tractor was up on. Then I ran a belt from the drive pulley, around the rear axles and to a wash machine motor behind the tractor. I tightened the motor to the belt and used several drywall screws to fasten the electric motor to the Plywood. The belt doesn’t have to be super tight. Then I filled the tranny with diesel and used the motor to run the tranny in each gear for 15-20 minutes. Then I drained the tranny. Then I refilled with diesel again and ran it an hour in each gear. With everything turning and working it cleaned up better than just soaking it.

3 pointsYour pretty close to Lansing... maybe take them to the State Capitol Building and dump them on the front lawn...? They seem to have a pretty good protest cleanup system...
-
3 pointsOkay I read over everything again! And I got it I didn’t use the same hollow nuts from rear to rear I just went and changed everything and I once again can lift everything! Thanks a lot guys for all the help!!

3 pointsI'm working on rebuilding a 5060 transmission to swap onto my Commando 8. One thing I needed was a new input pulley. I needed part number 7232, which seems to be pretty hard to come by. The 7232 is a 4" outside diameter, 5/8" bore with key, and a half-inch belt. All the new, off the shelf pulleys I was finding, were all designed for 5/8 and 1/2 inch belts, none were 1/2 inch only. I stumbled across a company called Phoenix Distribution. They are out of New Hampshire, and claim to make a whole assortment of OEM pulleys for all the big companies out there. I looked through their site, and happened to come across the exact pulley I needed, offered in the 5/8 & 1/2 combo, as well as offered in the 1/2 inch only like the original pulley I was looking for. Just got the pulley in tonight, and it looks great, exactly what I needed. Just thought I'd pass this along, in case you are looking for an odd pulley that you can't seem to find. Their website is Phoenix-mfg.com

3 pointstodays update... Managed to remove the seized hitch pin with a lot of heat and a big hammer - easier than drilling, but a lot of heat needed. Had to grind end where it was badly peened before knocking through. before dropping transmission. RH key was rusted solid - so more heat and a big punch, pieces shattered off! four oil seals ordered and ready to split... tempted to put a diff lock in this one - but I think time is against me at the moment. Despite being on lock down for 8 weeks
