Had an old four foot fluorescent shop light that needed new tubes. While I was out doing the weekly Corona Virus shopping spree this morning I found a pair of LED direct replacement tubes for $ 8.88 that are super bright. I will be getting more for sure.

Rylee helped me disc the garden tonight. I have this old industrial transformer for weight and it made a good chariot seat for Rylee. We tugged it all with Jane the Commando 6 and even used the grader blade to knock down the high stuff.

Just put and new caberater on the 210-5 it back running and and posted it for sale and got a buyer today rescued out of a lawn mower shop before it went to the scrap yard

The wife and I took June bug for an 8 mile drive today before taking the rear fender off to finish. The steering needs some slack taken out. Going to have to turn the drums eventually and the seat needs to be moved forward another notch. Motor pulls like a mule but I need practice shifting a non synchronized transmission. A combination of double clutching and short shifting seems to work best. Has some things that need tending to but it's getting there. At least the differential was quiet after the rebuild.

I got some new tools from amazon over the past week or so and I got the stubborn crankshaft pulley off the GT-14. I started to mount the manual clutch and still have a few modifications to make. I used the bearing separator and puller combo and it worked great! All the pullers I got were OTC very good quality and good prices too!

Decals finally came in! (new guy here btw). Big thanks to www.redoyourhorse.com for the decal kit, and Lowell at wheelhorsepartsandmore.com for the hydraulic hoses and cylinder rebuild kit. Started restoring this 1977 C-160 several weeks ago. I'll make a separate post with more pictures and challenges throughout the whole project, so this just a preview I guess. This is my first restoration, and I can't thank everyone on this forum enough for the help I've received. Thank you to everyone asking questions, and thank you to everyone answering. I can't believe the awesome community I've discovered here, just by picking up an old Wheel Horse rotting away in a barn! I no longer think this will be the first and last of my collection... Anyways, here's a little before and after. Decals went on excellent today and I got to do a little cruising around the property.

Well, the boys came out and plowed a bit in our garden, then took it home to do their plot! The belt was slipping quite a bit but once they got home, they found that they can push down on the parking brake handle a bit and it is a rocket! Traction is still an issue but their soil is mainly sand and it does ok still with the limited slip. I’m glad they are happy and look forward to seeing it on their older brother’s YouTube channel “Cade’s Cows” in the near future! Thank you again @davidtmercer for hooking me up with this awesome machine! I made them promise that I can be first on the list if they ever sell it

I get tagged quite often, as I once posted a picture of my hub puller. I thought I would post a few pics and it in action on a 40 year old hub that had slipped in and had no set screw. This thing was tight, I had already used a lot of penetrating fluid and traditional puller. Time to bring out the big guns - 6 ton bottle jack and hub adapter from another tractor. Plus a lot of heat - 5-10 minutes before the relief valve was no longer kicking in. having torn down half a dozen transmissions and rebuilt them, I dug out old faithful to do the job. 6 ton bottle jack plus 5 mins of heat, the jack relief valve was kicking in. Another few mins of heat and result! Despite a lot of penetrating fluid - which no doubt burned off - you can see just how much friction there was. Video for those wanting to see it in action.

***warning long thread alert with lots of pictures and videos*** I don't post as much as I should, despite 3 horses regularly earning their keep round here - all have had build threads. So this seems no different At the 2015 UK Wheel Horse round up, I bought a C-121 from a friends son. He had half stripped it... lost bits, sandblasted some - lost faith. £50 was a steal... $75 to you guys in the US. We've moved house and pushed this thing around for 5 years and decided we need a regular Horse that the snow blower, plows and tiller will fit - this seemed the most apt one out of the GT14, Commando 8, Lawn Ranger and C-160 auto parked next to it to resurrect Looking under the hood... theres no wiring or cables for throttle and choke. But engine looks intact.... turning the pulley however it sounds pretty grim, something scraping! So first thing pop the drive pulley in case it is scraping nope not that... so pull the flywheel... ahhh that'll make a noise! out with the epoxy... that should do it Next to strip carb and fuel pump... no pics of cleaning them - pump was full of white corrosion - carb was remarkably clean I can tell it was spent a long time outdoor by looking at the blower housing repairable, but I've got better things to do... Before torquing the flywheel I checked if there was any oil - I think there was a drop on the dipstick, so very low. Poured a quart in... doh! someone had snapped the remote drain off... So weld a 3/8 bolt into the remaining piece and use a fibre washer! fixed! So let's balance a coil and condenser on the top with a 12V battery and see if we can get a spark. Nothing - pull points cover and points look like fuel pump, all rusted up and contacts not good! quick clean and emery cloth, setting the gap to 0.05mm (we are metric here in the UK - plus I don't have any imperial feelers ) Turn the flywheel and a spark Whats the chances now if we dangle a fuel pipe in a jerry can and jump the starter? IMG_1230.MOV Started and ticks over nicely, used the basic 2-1/2 turns on both needles and it runs pretty well - I never fail to jump on the backfires, will run better with a muffler! Daren't run too long without the blower housing too!!! Join us tomorrow for the next exciting instalment

8ntruck, Yes, it is a long drawn out story involving a pickup truck I owned in high school. I will give you the short version. If I gain enough interest and followers I may record a more detailed video, for my YouTube channel, explaining the truck /legend. Dad helped find and purchase a Ford F150 for me when I was in school. We purchased the truck on the cheap. It required tons of work. He helped design and build the custom flat bed body. It turned out great and was a sweet 4x4 for me at 16 years old. We always referred to the truck as the 'flat bed'. During one of our family garage sales (several years after high school) one of our old neighbors said 'I see flat thunder is back'. He referred to the truck as 'Flat Thunder' because it was a flat bed and noted how loud it was, 'you know it's loud like thunder.' The nickname 'Flat Thunder' was born! I used it as my YouTube handle because it is unique and relates closely to my life. Thanks for sharing interest in my story! *Note I still own this truck

Todays instalment... the rear hubs are leaking, theres no oil in the transmission. All gears appear to select though which is a plus! having torn down half a dozen transmissions and rebuilt them, I dug out old faithful to do the job. 6 ton bottle jack plus 5 mins of heat, the jack relief valve was kicking in. Another few mins of heat and result! Despite a lot of penetrating fluid - which no doubt burned off - you can see just how much friction there was. Video for your viewing pleasure

We picked up a GT-14 tiller and a Brinly Cat O plow from a guy about 4 years ago who was clearing out the last of his collection. When I told him it was going to my youngest son, he went into the garage and came out with this framed ad and gave it to me for Zach. Now it hangs on the wall in my shop until Zach has a place of his own!

I lugged the battery out of the basement and wheeled my 14-8 out of the shed. Installed the battery, checked the fluids, checked that there was enough gas, and gave the grease zerks all a shot or three. It cranked up and started just like it should. We then spent about an hour running the lawn sweeper around the yard doing the first pass at spring clean up. Ran like it should. I did note a few items that need attention - missing bolt on the belt guard, some wear in the slider on the deck pick up rod that is causing it to tilt and lock up on the rod instead of sliding up to the adjustment nuts, finally getting around to finding a battery hold down, and chasing down the slow leak in the right rear tire. Flat Thunder Channel - I was planning on doing a progress thread when I start piecing this hitch together. By the way, that is an interesting screen name. Any sort of story behind it?

Had a "rollback" back up into my driveway today round about 1:15 this afternoon & drop off a red tractor, (#T867 Sr.#370401) a sears disc, (altered a little bit to be used with Brinley hitch) cultivator, (6 shovel to fit WH slot hitch) & a jua kali dozer blade, & hitch supposedly off of Bolens but looks like it would fit A. C. too. Going through it to repair little things,,ign. coil wire, some welding needed on belt guard & battery box, got carb. cleaned (green moss growing in it?) & a few other things. Looks like it's been a pampered puppy & slept inside all its life (no rust) & other than choke/throttle cables seems in good original condition except seat. Adding blade to tractor &deck to sell along with cultivator, disc & hitch.Got to get them ready, hopefully by late next week. Pictures hopefully by then.

So I did a lot today ….Well at least I thought I did... Took the 312 H apart for a random fuel issue. I took out the gas tank, fuel line....the Carb, and the exhaust . Muffler off for Glass beading, so I can paint it. I was having random popping issues, but the machine ran good with partial choke. Classic carb issues. I foundcondensate in the fuel, and nothing else. Im going to go through everything in the fuel system and replacing ALL OF IT !!!

Picked up a HF 20 ton press today. Been watching a lot of youtube videos on modifications made to these to make them nicer. I completed my first mod today, a boat winch to raise and lower the press bed easier, and i have to say it works really slick. Got a knob ordered for the pressure release valve so i dont have to use the jack handle (anyone with one of these presses knows what im talking about and how big of a pain it can be). There is a metal brake that can be added to these (aftermarket) that looks really nice but i think i need to save my pennies for that one.

Neat story. Kind of similar to how my old truck got named. I picked up a '72 Chevy long bed in the mid 90's. Was a ranch truck out of Texas. Solid, but with patina. One of my kid's friends took to calling it the big nasty - and the name stuck. Yup, I still have it. Just over 200k miles on it, with even better patina. I'm figuring on fixing the floors and freshening the interior and calling it good.

If you can punch a small hole in the metal part of the seal and then run a screw into the hole you can pull the old seal out with pliers. Find a piece of PVC pipe to slip over the shaft to drive the new seal in squarely.

A customer of mine was getting rid of his old tractor and wondered if I might be interested. turns out it is a one owner, garage kept d160 automatic with snow plow, tire chains and lawn sweeper, also 48 inch deck. 16 horse Kohler starts and runs perfectly , hears the catch. Won’t move or lift deck on its own power. When you open the hydro, it pushes forward and reverse no problem. Just will not move on it’s own. Just got it home so haven’t put any time into it yet. Coupler between engine and hydro pump looks good. Can’t be sure if pump is spinning, plan on starting there. Any known issues? Looking forward to the process of getting this beast moving

New air cleaner for the C-105 worker. Quick & dirty front hitch for the WHrat WHrecker so I can move the trailers around without cranking my neck... Ain't pretty but used scraps and bolts on hand so free is good... In addition to just looking cool, this one is now my designated tow tug...

I guess I'm not seeing the need for the winch for the apron Mike??? I get that old I can't do it by hand come get all my tractors Guessing you saw my mod for gettin a dash in ?? Only problem I have is the lame stand. Feet needs to be welded solid and anchored to the floor. Too tippy for me otherwise. Another issue was the bottle jack leaked after a few uses and had to add oil... prolly low to begin with...Chinese go figure...if yours does go get some of this. Worked wonders for a 20 yo crapsman 3 ton floor jack that always leaked. Fleets has it. Other than that for the money ....priceless for home shop.

I spent time today blowing the leaves out of most of the flower beds, then on the horse picking them up with the lawn sweeper. Late in them afternoon, I moved a large rocking chair and ottoman down the hill to the lake house in the garden trailer. I tried fitting my other hitch into the tubing for my receiver hitch project. That one fit better, only hanging up on the upset weld bead on the ID of the receiver tube. Looks like all I need to do is to remove the weld upset on the ID of a 6" long piece.

I will have to see if I can find some good pictures.....She's in rough shape and in dire need of a new cab. We recently acquired a rust free cab earlier this year. I hope to document the process when I get enough other projects out of the way. I tend to acquire more projects than I can handle. The truck itself has quite a story. I sold it once and somehow it ended up back at my house! So many stories and memories from that old truck. When the old cab comes off I might make a decoration or bar out of the pieces for the garage.

Just get the direct wires Bob and toss the ballasts. … hot and neutral both ends and good to go. Polarity doesn't matter. This stuff changes with the wind and everyday they come up with a new mousetrap. Used to be the ballast was required but that's history now. Did half my shop at home just to see how well they hold up. So far so good. Only problem was the bulbs created RFI both here and home so no more shop radio. Alexa plays it all now.

Yeah, Meadowfield was actually pretty lucky that it came off with only 3 pull points. Even with whx using all 5 pull points you get the result he shows all to often. If I dont get some pretty quick indications its wanting to come off, I do as he says and go ahead and 'bite the bullet' and pull the axle and get it in a - preferably - 20 ton press. Ive had a couple (D axles) that me and a buddy were really getting leery with the pressure we had on the press, being very difficult to even get another stroke on the jack when ----- "POW!!!" and even at that point it took great pressure to keep it moving until about the last 1/2". Folks you have heard us talk about the most difficult things on our horses being the hubs and steering wheels, either one will make you lose your sanity!!

Keep an eye out for the retrofit versions of them too. You have to wire around the ballast (which is a piece of cake), which makes fixtures with bad ballasts useful again. Saves electricity not having to run them as well. This is what we typically do for customers when changing out fluorescent bulbs for LED.

If your C175 has the fuel tank under the rear seat, a squeeze bulb primer or an electric fuel pump could solve your starting problem. But there all alittle different. I have a 312-8 with tank under the seat, starts right up all the time I hace a C-81 with tank under seat, that cranks forever to start. Sometimes won't start if tank is less than 3/4 full. The plastic fuel pump was nasty when I got it, and I disassemble and kleaned it, but didn't put any new parts in it. I just got a Facet brand electric pump to put on it.

Awesome intro! I felt like I was getting prepared for an action movie! It was fun watching the whole family enjoy the little tractors together. Thanks for the link. The only problem is now I want hundreds of dollars worth of parts.

Often that part of a shaft where the seal rides a grove is worn into the shaft, a new seal will stop the leak for a month or two. Installing a speedi sleeve is an inexpensive long lasting cure. I've used them to repair a worn hydraulic pump shaft, the sleeves are available in various SAE and metric sizes. SKF Speedi Sleeve Document.

Replacing Geothermal ground source pump seals high above courtside at the Garden (Old Boston Celtic reference) Then off to another school for a major gas smell. Boiler vent valve solenoid had a meltdown and was pumping gas outside at a vent as fast as it could flow thru an 1 1/2 " pipe

My, how things have changed since I retired. I just got edjumekated on the retrofit this morning. When I first saw the LED replacements I assumed they used the ballast as a driver. They state to check for ballast compatibility. Some state to bypass the ballast. I'm gonna be experimenting this morning.

C-121 and all of the other horses with a cradle-mounted engine are notorious for having intermittent grounding problems. The engine is isolated from the frame with rubber mounts. Therefore the mounting cradle has it's own ground wire connecting it to the frame. That is the first place that I would look when trying to diagnose any electrical problem. No ground, no voltage. Starter, solenoid, coil, etc are all engine mounted, are all dependent on that ground wire to complete the circuit. I had a C-101 that every time I would try to start it, the throttle cable would get hot and smoke. Turns out that the ground wire was poorly connected and the starter was grounding through the throttle cable.

Trina got the front axle bracket and the axle painted up. We installed the frame and its rear supports onto the adapter this morning. Also bolted the front bracket on with axle in place to verify position after I had welded in braces on both the frame and front support. Lines up nicely. I'll use the piece of 3/4 rod in the photo to make up an extended length axle pivot pin. Look looooong?? The wheel base is 9" longer than a standard C series. Adding the extra size of the tire diameter this machine will be 16" longer than stock.
