Finally Spring in Wisconsin, time to tackle the hood and rear fender assembly now that I can paint outside. So far every piece has been media blasted to bare metal and painted

Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to owning wheel horse in general. My father had been a lawn mower mechanic for his entire career and spent the first 25 plus years working for a wheel horse dealership. I grew up mowing on wheel horse and helping him work on mowers when I was younger. I bought a house and needed a mower but the previous owners had a John Deere that they left with the property and I used that to mow with for a while. It's served the purpose but man I hated how it mowed. It's showing its age and going to need some work done soon so I decided to shop around and found this beauty. (More pics to come once I get time). I got it for a decent price I think. I do wish it had a 60 inch deck as I have an acre to mow but for now it will do just fine. When I went to look at it The guy said he bought it for 1200 but realized it was more mower than he needed and bought a push mower instead. When I started it up for the first time it wouldn't idle without the choke on. It also needs a new voltage regulator and a solenoid. He already had the solenoid but hadn't put it on. Came with a plow, wheel weights and chains all for 825 dollars. Dad pulled the carb apart and cleaned it up and it's running like a champ. Got a few minor things to fix and work on like the voltage regulator, a parking brake knob, a wire that needs attending to and fixing the throttle cable that won't stay up. But Im happy with my new purchase. Ohhh and for some reason the hitch is missing so I'm going to either buy or make one for it. Excited to get to mow with it for the first time.

I got the REO out Sunday and mowed the back yard. I just took some picks because I still want to check / sharpen the blades and lube the deck and front steering before videos. OH!, and I was able to move the seat back one notch...about 1 1/2"...makes a big difference. These are before I moved the seat back. BTW, it does a real nice cut on the lawn. I like it. This is me admiring the look of the fresh cut lawn.

So I figured I would provide an update on the 416-8. I decided to make this machine a puller. I am building a command 18 for it but in the mean time I got the rest of the fab work done. Got 12x12-26 rim blanks and inserts from MILLER. Measured the offset and welded them up. Bought new set of pulling tires from Vogel. Had to cut the lip of the floorboard so did that with an extra set, welded tab on floorboard for foot throttle and then repainted. Also had to raise the fender pan about 1” to make these monster tires fit. Fabricated front weight mount and also the rear wheelie bars. Getting aluminum set pan fabricated as well.

These just arrived from @HorseFixer ‘s (Duke’s) wife Mary Jane... Great quality at a very nice price! Highly recommend them! Broke them in tonight and they performed quite admirably during a Zoom happy hour with some great friends... Cheers!

I finished the final parts to complete this tractor the Front Wheels with correct rims! "Many thanks to Lincoln Martin A-Z." The HY-3 "Little slow", but strong! Again the CEB Motors Technician, (Marion PA) that mounted the tires with a "bare hands technique"! The K-241 has spark advance, no compression release. The deck engage is fluid, however, my big feet don't help matters much!

I have an auto/electrical repair shop in my area. When ever I get a tractor I'm going to keep I tear off the cables and have them make new ones the correct length in 6 ga. In red and black and have them heat shrink the ends.

We prepared our garden plot yesterday. It rained all night, we still need to disc to break up the sod... or till.

Fixed the seat switch today, which was defeated by the previous owner. I figure it's a safety measure worth keeping on this tractor because I mow with it and would like to give that duty over to my sons in the next few years.

My family got out of the house this afternoon and helped this guy plow the garden! It was so great to finally get Jada on Hot Wheels for a couple turns! It might not be for her yet, but at least she tried. We even got Frank out for a bit to disc the garden. He suffered a bit of carnage, sheared a bolt on the drive hub / axle.... but no big deal.

Here are a few plow hitches I’ve built. @PeacemakerJack has the third one, with the little plow welded on as a gusset.

Thinking you may enjoy some more loader pics and thanks for the comments. I enjoyed that loader for many years and had it on several different WH tractors. I did sell it to a RedSquare member only because I needed a larger tractor for the property we now own with different snow totals than at our last residence and for other jobs the Kwik-Way loader was not capable of doing. They are out there used but difficult to find in the condition that one was in .

I looked for a cheap yet effective movie maker and will keep playing around with it. That way I can group together segments of movies to make a story instead of raw video clips at random. We had a great time! Mrs. P enjoyed plowing, she had a lot of fun prepping the garden. This weekend we also made two batches (about 15 or 16 quarts) of spaghetti sauce from frozen tomatoes out of Grandma’s garden. Mrs. P couldn’t believe how challenging it was to lift the 10” plow behind Putt Putt but she was a trooper about it! Jada had fun being outside with the family and playing with videos which we can all be thankful for! Without the video team, it isn’t very pleasant!

I have welded gas tanks many times but I have a strict process. After I empty and flush the gas tank. I have a piece of 1" hose that I stuff up the tail pipe of my car or truck, the other end goes inside the gas tank. I start the vehicle up and let it run for 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes I leave the vehicle continue to run and push CO into the tank while I make my weld repair. The CO from the exhaust pushes all of the O2 out of the gas tank. No O2 = no boom.

Wanted to share i bought these super bright LED's yesterday at advanced auto parts. Wow These are bright! My photos dont do justice. I put these on the 1973 no name wheelhorse I did some more work to it yesterday. hooked up the factory light switch and changed the positive battery cable to a red one. rigged up the battery box better. and sharped the blades and mowed with her! very impressed with this machine.

Not a 20 but a 16. Looking at the 20 it is about an 1/2" taller. One issue was the muffler. Also, I had to install raised mounts 1" to get the center of the shaft lined up with the drive belt track / geometry. The pic is an older vanguard with tall/round air filter but the newer ones are flat and may fit under the hood but might be tight.? Need a PTO that fits a 1" shaft, or adapter. The 16 I installed is on my sons machine and it has plenty of juice. Runs the 48" deck with ease. Quiet too. just some fuel for thought.

I use otherwise unused space underneath tables for small pivoting drawers useful to store small items frequently used. The small one on my bench contains wax to lubricate nails, screws, and the bottoms of planes.

I’m a huge fan of the hitch that @pullstart made for GhostRider...top notch work and the little plow moldboard is a cool custom touch. I just need to get a bushing made to size it down from 3/4 to 5/8” hitch pin size and I’ll be in Good shape!

@JCM... My original front weight hanger/bumper turned into my rear weight hanger to my new heavy duty weight hanger/bumpers there's at least 3 RS members have one of these... (@PeacemakerJack @cschannuth and the 3rd member I can't recall bought the 520 engraved version 5 years ago) anyways I felt I needed the extra weight out front with the heavy rear clevis hitch attachments and tiller so the original was something my dad had laying around and I made work in the front like a mule drive or snow blower as well as my new style... Then I just made to uprights to make it work on the rear for 2 stage counterbalance... Then the rear sleeve hitch carry all not my idea but Craftsman's that I fabbed up myself.

I answered an add on Craigslist couple of years ago. At the time I was looking to replace the engine on my mothers Craftsman riding mower. Many times I tried giving her different riders and she always refused. The ad was in the free section and all it said was " Free Tractor... you move ". No photo, just that description. Well I called and the kid said he didnt know much about it. Said it ran and it was a Craftsman. He said he was getting a new one from his parents. I assumed it was junk..... well I pulled into the driveway and I saw this in the driveway and I thought... well that must be the one he got from his parents...... nope that was the free one !! I said whats wrong with it? They said nothing.. The parents were moving out of state and were giving the son their new zero turn. I wanted to pinch myself. I told them I would give them some money they refused. So I took the deck off to get it in the back of my truck. Just when I thought it couldnt get any better the mother came over and asked me... " Would you like a snowblower too ? " The dad wheeled out an Ariens 8hp snowblower. This is were you @pullstart would be proud. I managed to get it all in the back of my truck. Offered up the tractor to my mother... she again refused because here bagger wouldnt fit on it. I sold the GT and bought my mom one exactly like her old one. Hate to say it but those Craftsman GT's are not a bad product. Hope you all dont kick me out for saying that.

TO On the throttle not staying, I unbolt from dash, and peen the rivet on throttle lever. You will need a forward swept front axle setup to mount a 60" deck. A 48" deck will mount to your 520H, 6" wider than your 42" rear discharge.

i have problems with that when doing competitions, i usually misjudge the depth i have to go to, i start going shallower on the last few passes but allways end up having it too deep still. it'll usually result in me lifting the plow, putting it in gear and pushing and pulling till free

A couple of thoughts come to mind here. When the previous owner had the carburetor rebuilt last year it could have been because the needle valve wasn't working and the engine flooded allowing fuel into the oil. If he wasn't using ethanol-free gas the ethanol in the gas has an affinity for water and would have caused the milky color. That junk is also hard on the parts of a fuel system, only use non-ethanol gas. https://www.buyrealgas.com/ When the tractor has been sitting unused for a day or more do you have to crank it quite a bit to get it to start? The fuel pump is located on top of the engine and if it isn't working properly the gas will have tendency to flow back to the tank. If this is the case you could opt for a rebuild kit, http://www.then-now-auto.com/kohler-fuel-pumps-2/ or use an electric fuel pump.
