14 pointsWe’ve had a lot of damage from flooding lately. A friend’s daughter had about 9 tons of rip rap lining the back of her house. I used the 857 and the fatty old trailer I’ve had since I was three to haul them to the trailer. 857 ran perfectly. The girl’s little boy had to drive the tractor every time we went from the truck back around the house. He even picked up a load on the way back! He had a ball!!! It was nice to see a little guy having so much fun on a horse!!

11 pointsOk some more teaseing…. The paint..… was very expensive, not exactly a 6 buck rattle can. Dan can chime in on the exact brands/colors or I can take some pics of the cans if anyone else has got the hair to do this. The whole paint scheme was thrown in his department. Was his crazy @$$ idea anyway! I was just slave labor and ball cap stripper glitter awardee.. Chime in here Dan if I'm wrong here on the exact steps. 1 Bare blasted metal 2 Self etching primer 3 Three coats of gray primer. 3a Mist the sheet metal parts with rusty primer then wet sand with 1000 grit till mist is gone. This is a real time consumer as it has to be done by hand. Two guys going at it goes quick. 4 Three coats of silver metallic. This is where I got the stripper glitter from... the stuff just hung in the air. More than one guy asked me what establishment I had visited and why I had so many dollar bills in my wallet 5 Three coats of CA red. When they were first shot a thought they looked maroon. I hate maroon. Red parts roasting over an open fire The hood... little bit of bondo but not bad. Straitening hood fins was a bit of a pain. One was stretched and had to be cut and re-welded. Could have worked on in much longer but figured it was close enough for the girls we go out with! We did miss one tiny little dent... character I says kinda got hid in the flames. Flamage…I had overheard him yakking something about this with Cindy but thought they both just on crack. This was all done by Dan by hand. Note how they seem to overlap. I don't know if I got a headache from looking at all those crazy lines or the sniffing the stripper glitter! Sure was interesting to watch him.... Yah I don't think this is his first rodeo... One of things about this paint is it looks totally different in different types of light. Some of the pics it looks orange... pops red in sunlight tho. As Elmer Fudd I stand corrected..... Porky Pig would say.... Ebadebadeba that's all folks. Tune in tomorrow same bat time same bat channel for final assembly.

10 pointsI was thinking last weekend while we were displaying the runners by the road, we’ve got quite a bit of room for a show in our front yard! Maybe with a little prep... and no Covids, we could start another MI gathering?

8 pointsSo my wife & I are out for our evening walk... Being trash night I am of course observing the opportunities in front of each house and... Score! Another perfectly good wheelbarrow tossed due to a flat tire... Third one in the past year... other two are converted into WH trailers and are proud members of the SL&WHN RR... 5 minutes and a spare “no flat” tire from the last trash pick barrow and I’m in business! This one will stay a wheelbarrow for now... While it sickens me what people throw away, I will continue to take advantage of it...

8 pointsNew Tires and front weights on the Charger 12. Incidentally when I removed the rear wheels, there seemed to be a lot of back lash in the final drive, which became obvious to be in the hub / axle attachment. Long story short; new key way cut into the hubs, new hardened wood ruff keys, and two alloy hardened sets. Sets and keys came from McMaster Carr, Key way cut at a local machine shop. A word to the wise: If you have a machine with these style hubs, put a wrench on them from time to time and maybe save later repairs.

7 points... Plunge @JCM.. drastic times call for drastic measures... had to polish off this bowl of venison chili with a celery stalk for a spoon. Seems the store was out of dish soap due to hoarders so had to conserve.....

7 pointsI picked both these up last weekend, And today They both run, the 8hp just needed a battery the C101, needed a fuel pump and the points adjusted. and oil in the gear box looks pretty bad. Great 400 dollar find. and my son has laid claim to the 8hp one 20200412_155523.mp4

7 points2010 was my first show. Last year's show was my 10th consecutive one. It has become something that I start looking forward to beginning on the Sunday following the show. This year was no different. When I print out a new household calendar for my wife in December, the weekend after Father's Day is always blocked out. My wife looks forward to me being out of her hair for those days . So like the rest of you, I'm bummed, but I would rather everyone stay healthy. 2010 RedSquare Group 2019 RedSquare Group

6 pointsMy wife's birthday is June 22. Last few years I have had a bunch of guys gather around the phone to sing Happy Birthday to her. Had @stevasaurus and @squonk do it once! Don't quit your day job boys!

5 pointsHi all. Having built my little Red Fred I now want to use him out and about on the footpaths and fields opposite my home which is part of our community project. Being an ex cop I like to keep things above board if at all possible. You can bet I will get stopped crossing 15 feet of tarmac and feel the full weight of the law. And also I know how complex road traffic law can be to interpret, even for the cops and CPS. But I think I have a bit of a handle on it so I'll explain what I think, if anyone sees any glaring errors please shout up. Or if you have already achieved said legal status any tips would be welcome. Firstly, it's a light agricultural vehicle, and so that brings it into being exempt from Type approval. A major PITA if it had needed approval. Second it's over 40 years old so does not need an MOT certificate. Thirdly, if built before 1980 it does not need tax. D. I have a driving licence that covers me for the requisite groups. All I am short of is insurance for third party risks and if i want to be really cute a registration document and registration (licence) plate. Oh, and i think i need an amber flashing light because it's so slow. I'm going to get a quote for insurance and it costs £55 to have it registered by the Govt. A lot of messing about but if I want to avoid the wrath of the cops and the local know it alls, one of whom has already raised the point of proper documentation for my toy, then I think I will go ahead and see what comes of it. I will keep you posted. Mick

5 pointsThanks to the fine folks here! After 6 months of on and off working on her she is purring like a kitten and running like a horse. Could not have done without you guys.

5 pointsI lucked up and found an online auction with some Wheel Horse parts. One of the items I bid on was this set of red head hubcaps. They have cleaned up very well and I think I got a good deal!

4 pointsToday dad decided to break up the soil in the strawberry garden and decided to use Blackbeard which has a cat-o hitch. He put the brinley adapter on it and used the cultivator that I got from @AMC RULES Than You! I grabbed the phone and did a little video of dad...enjoy!

4 pointsGuilty as charged! So, you’re the “WH Hoarder also known as WBX3”??? Good to know... Does @pullstart have this same problem?
-
4 pointsFinally sorted the 416-8 onan surging and cutting out. Cleaned out the fuel pump, replaced the manifold gaskets and replaced the carb purchased from a member kind enough to ship it to me in the UK. True gent 👍

4 pointsExcellent "Newbie" post. I suggested years ago, to check the set screws at each oil change. Often the axle will be totaled if run too loose for too long.
-
4 pointsThanks Kevin. The trailer is an old Jackson dump cart that I got when I was 10 to pull behind my Honda 3 wheeler. That thing is 37 years old, beat up, and has been welded many times. Still, I wouldn’t give it up for anything. It has a lot of sentimental value!

4 pointsI just hate it when they put carriage bolts in wood. I woke up today, and decided to stay home...and spend the day on Red Square. No round head bolts turning here. In fact, I got out of going to the grocery store with Chris...plus, she brought me back some Vodka. Just to rinse my hands of course.

3 pointsI am sure some of you collectors have your share of WH literature and wondering what your thoughts are on the Baja Tough decal on the hood just forward of the louvers. On page 2 of the 91 Brochure which I have a pic of on here although not sure if it is legible what their reasoning was for placing that on top of the hood and the write up on the test drive in the Baja Peninsula. In the pic it looks like someone mixed up a little dirt and water in a bucket and tossed it at the tractor. Did they do this because the Model changed slightly from the 88 and 89 and maybe the 90 was not selling to their expectations and tried to push the 91 or something else. Also, if any members have original 91's does yours have this decal, just wondering if they all have this or not. The 91 brochure does not show a decal on it. Thanks

3 pointsWell give that a go on the morning once my wife let's me away from farm maintenance - the downside of being married to the manager and having lots of time off from my actual job.
-
3 pointsIf the handle and lever is still good you may be able to buy a universal replacement for less than $10 and repair what you have
-
3 pointsDan. If the tank looks dirty inside, dirt will be getting from there to the carb. You'll need to remove it and give it a good washout. Also make sure the fuel line is clean. Good Idea to fit an inline filter. There is a filter attached to the fuel tap, but that could be damaged.
-
3 pointsI have ran into this before. If you look down in the end of the wire, you will see the little metal connector that slips on the end of the plug. These can lose some of their tension over time. If you take a pair of small pliers or needle nose pliers, you can squeeze the connector ever so slightly together so it will make better contact. It will not take much. This may save you from buying a new one if the old one is good otherwise.

3 pointsI believe I have attended every show but the very first one. I look for to going every year, I plan my vacation every year. God forbid I miss my wheel horse show. But with that being said it is a decision we didn't want to make and had hoped we wouldn't have to ever do. Unfortunately the time had come and the circumstances to make that very hard decision a reality. We will definitely miss all you who help us make the show what it. Thank you all for your understanding and hopefully we can all get together safe next year: ericj

3 pointsThanks guys! @ebinmaine and @Achto ok Im an idiot haha, never really thought of it that way, according to model number they all are indeed 'one year' builds back then. I ran across stuff online when searching "1277" and it appeared to be an oddball, perhaps the combination of 12hp/hydro and footrest style or something, or at least a 'not very common' model. Considering I was looking for a possible Kohler for the 654 trail toy and couldnt find one, and now have two big block Kohlers WITH the tractors, still pretty thrilled

3 pointsIt appears the machine shop did a goo job on drilling the Cub steering wheel. It cost me a total of $45; $20 for the drill bit and $25 for the drilling. I then did had to do a little sanding and scuffing, then resprayed the spokes and hub due to a few nicks at the machine shop.
-
3 pointsThe only Wheel Horse I have (for now) is also a 14 hp, 8 speed no name. It has been used mainly for mowing since the late 1970's. Other duties include moving full size trailers and light hauling with the garden tractor trailer. It has done all that we've asked it to. New tires, new bearings for the mower deck, and normal engine and lubrication maintenance is all that has been required.
-
3 pointsI gave up on resisting the obsession. With at least 26 horses I’m one sick dude!
-
3 pointsFrom 1960 - 1967 the last number in the model number represents the year that the tractor was built. 1277 - 12 = 12 horse power, 7 = Hydrostatic transmission, 7 = 1967 1257 - 12 = 12 horse power, 5 = Standard transmission, electric start, 7 = 1967 502 - 5 = 5hp, 0 = standard trans, pull start, 2 = 1962 The "0" in the middle of the model number can have some exceptions. A 701 & 702 did come with electric start. There are also some one off middle numbers like the 1045 which is basically a 1055 with clam shell rear fenders in stead of seat pan / rear fender. The 633 was basically a 603 with a Kohler engine instead of a Tecumseh.

3 pointsWhile in town today I wasn't able to find the bearing I need. So ordered it online and probably won't see it till next week. Seems like everything I need takes another week. Guess I'll start the finish work on the fender. Weather should be nice enough to do the sanding outside. Hopefully some photos tomorrow.
