15 points….unless SWMBO orders it again! Bought this 702 from Shynon what Tom three, four years ago already? Had the duals on it and a fresh motor he had just rebuilt. He claims it was his first resto and since the paint was not perfect a good candidate for a re-paint. He also had hub caps on it but and would of sold them with the tractor had I opened my wallet a little further. 'Sides I saw no need for them on a worker. Wrong again! One of the reasons I had to have it was one of years I was missing in my collection and the year my wife was born which is one of the reasons I got away with her letting me buying it. So since it was her birth year I had to say it was "her tractor" ! Huge mistake... Well she had always wanted a candy apple red sixties vintage muscle car so I figured a cheap way out of the car was do a CA tractor and told her we would. Keep in mind I was thinking a cheap rattle can job and figured she'd eventually forget about the CA thing, boy was I wrong! Well it was a bit cheaper than the car but now that my wallet is a tad lighter IDK. The sad thing this WAS a working tractor and was a go to and one of my favorites. Still a fav but no more a working tractor. No biggy this is my argument with her on why to have more tractors! Tractor went to every show with us and still will I guess. She did everything I asked from it and then some. Only real issue with it is every once in awhile in would get stuck in two gears at once. Not a big deal as it always popped right back out with a little fiddling with the shift lever and rocking backwards. An issue I had hoped to get sorted out in this build but I failed here. It still does it but gonna have to live with it ….. it' ain't coming back apart. First some before pics.... You guys are going to think I'm nuts for doing this as these pics it looks to be a nice tractor..... it was …I am …. Thought I had some pics when I first bought it but their MIA. Met Tom, Mike, Terry M and another guy, can't remember his name, just off the I90 interstate where they was in WI to do some horse thieving & had a nice breakfast with them. Think I did a thread on it when I first bought it will have to dig it out the basement. Sry Ryan no more grand kids climbing on it and one of the reasons I don't like doing this to a tractor. Warning this thread is going to get VERY pic heavy! Last pic before..... THIS!!! Egads what did I get myself in to! Dan @Achto you were no help in instigating this! He showing her color swatches like they was picking out drapes! She did help me strip it down and actually helped quite abit on it as you shall see. Off to the blaster and time for tranny work. One nice thing about this project as no motor work was needed other than paint. One of the thoughts was the shift rails so upon orders I put flats on them to avoid stiction. Was not the answer tho. With much discussion with the tranny experts about pin lengths, detents and springs I decided installing a shift pin would not help without deeper detents. It came apart with no pin so back together it went without but new balls and spring. Since the bearings were not going to get replaced I had to strip the tranny down by hand. Probably the worst job of the whole project. Somebody had been in this thing before as evidenced by the sealer on the halfs and no gasket. Strange flaking of some chrome? plating off some replacement gears? She did get new outboard axle bearings & seals and of course dual magnetic drain plugs as long as they were in the house! That's all for today folks stay tuned tomorrow for more. Yup that's right … I is gonna make you suffer through the whole thread before the glamor shots! Sides some of us are still working and if you guys were here where you should have been instead off facebooking or surfing porn you might have seen some sneak previews!

12 pointsHello y'all, I'm new here. Picked up my 82 C-85 a month or so ago and fell in love. I'm looking forward to picking your brains and learning more about these awesome machines!

11 pointsIf the Raider 12, (tractor #3) I snagged yesterday and posted wasnt confirmation of the addiction, today is. Buddy had this listed 2 miles away and dropped it off. Being kinda new to Horses, wasnt sure what it was but it had a Kohler, foot rests, and a hydro? Research showed most likely a 875, maybe a 1075. Nope. 1277. Never heard of them, but digging online sounds like a picked a winner? One year only? If thats the case, so much for a quick flip. This baby will live the rest of her days in my hands I am 100%, completely, full blown addict at this point and its all you's fault!

7 pointsto I am a big Carlisle fan because of looks and longevity and have had great luck with the Turfs for three seasons and add 2 link chains and wheel weights for Winter and they work well for me. I would like a set of those All Trails on one of my tractors someday that @Sparky runs on his WorkHorse because they look just Awesome.

6 pointsI bought this C141 last fall as a backup machine. I knew it had some issues when I bought it, but the more I looked, the more problems came up. Hard to start, ran rough, no power and wouldn't idle. Hydro was sluggish (barely moved in reverse) and alt not charging. On the positive side, tractor was pretty clean and came with a very nice 48" deck. So over the winter I went to work on it and I've given it a good workout the past couple weekends. I have to say I really like this machine! The one thing I really like on this and the Eaton hydro machines is the actual drum brake-the only thing I dislike about my C160. Since parts of it have been repainted (I don't like the color) I think I will probably put a quick paint job on it with new decals. Does anyone know if this hood will interchange with a hood off the earlier C series?? I know the rear fender pan is different.

6 pointsGreat little trailer!!! Looks very similar to two of mine! Started their “Wheel Horse” lives as trash day picks!!!
-
6 pointsHere is the one that got me loving Wheel Horse's. Sadly it was the first one I had to sell when I got out of the hospital. I picked up that dump cart sometime after I got the tractor. Painted it and put on the decals.
-
6 pointsHad the 854 out today for something else and was getting ready to put it away when I thought hey, let's do this ! First time this machine has cut grass in over 30 years and the first time in about 40 years that I've cut grass with a 60's era Horse. Not the 520 with a recycler deck, but the old girl did ok.

5 pointsToday i made a battery box, the original battery wouldn't fit with the gear reduction. Had to go to a motorcycle battery for the small size. Finished hooking up the wires and cables put the hood back on. Mounted the subframe and weight box I think she looks pretty good have a set of 18in v61's ordered for the front rims, i will paint rims linen beige before I mount new tires.

It is from an old family friend his dad and my late dad were best friends we are just trading I am trading a mid 60's 112 round fender hydraulic lift with headlights for this horse! He tells me it is a no name and 14hp kohler with a high low tranny and has a valve that sticks. It is sad in a way i will be down to 1 round fender and i wont ever sell it. It was my dads favorite and it is old reliable starts ever time no matter the weather. Everyone have a good and safe week!

4 pointsI remember when I was buying up any red tractors I could find within a 250 mile radius! Tons of fun ...the thrill of the hunt! Most ever here at one time was 16 machines. Don’t buy em like I used to, still enjoy them but find it’s easier with just 4 or 5 “ in-stock”. Nice find with that 1277, and delivered is great!

4 pointsI had made up reinforcement pieces for the front axle pivot pin in the past few weeks. Today I welded then in place after grinding a V groove in the frame and support. I have NO reason to post this next pic....
-
4 pointsThis morning I got the steering shaft cut, it was easier to cut/weld a new gear on the end of the shaft than it would have been to remove the steering wheel. Here is the difference between the two steering shaft gears first one is the standard steering gear Here is the reduction gear I cut and welded the two halves together using a coupler from the hardware store. A little math was needed to figure out how much needed to be removed. Now that the steering is done i needed to make a brace for the hydraulic pump bracket. When the pump is under load it flexes the bracket and the belt squeals. Before With the new brace this thing is super rigid. The brace is close to the belt but it will be okay there is enough clearance. To aid in the manual belt tension adjustment i have been throwing around the idea of a screw type adjuster. No better time than the present, so heres what i came up with turn the nut on top clockwise to tighten the belt counter clockwise will release tension. Looks like its gonna work great And then i got the motor bolted back in not bad for a days work.
-
3 points@Razorback Its a belt from the engine to the gear reducer / worm drive. Not hydro. Oddly enough that is also the brake. You see the slack on the belt off of that pulley. You press down on the left foot pedal and that takes up the slack stopping the pulley = the brake. The lever with the red knob locks in the plow height. The outside shorter lever is foward 1st gear, back reverse. The taller inside lever is back 2nd gear, forward 3rd. They areas I circled in these photos are where I cant figure out. I am most like missing some pieces. Any guesses? The photo with just the plow the areas circled are like cylinders with a hole drill through them. The photo with it on the tractor is that long metal bracket has a hole and a notch in it. That eye ring on the bottom and that other part of the tractor frame that obviously had something bolted to it. They almost line up with the cylinder things on the plow frame.
