19 pointsWith the excess time these days I did a clean sweep or the barn. There is a tint of green starting to develop so I figured it was a good time to put the herd out to pasture for the day. Being self employed electrician I don't have to much time to sit down at the computer but I do enjoy reading the posts on Red Square in the evening on my Kindle while watching the boob tube. I feel like I know a lot of you by reading your posts. Here in the "Last Green Valley" we're kind of stuck in the middle of all the big cities of southern New England. I know most everybody enjoys pictures, especially of a cool rainy Sunday so I'll throw a couple out there with a short description. 1963 - 753 Restored about 15 years ago 1978 - C101 My father bought new. Just did a mechanical restore this winter. I had the Kohler rebuilt with all Kohler parts $$ 1993 - 310-8 Bought this new. Snow blower winter machine and 36 inch deck for summer. 1997 - 312-8 Just picked this up in late fall with 250 hours, 37 inch deck & almost new grader blade for $1000 1997 - 520H Have had this for 10 years. 300 hours with my Kwik Way loader & Matt's foot pedal conversion (best mod I've made) 2003 - 315-8 I went to my local dealers open house about 5 years ago to look at new Mahinda's. He said "your a Wheelhorse guy, I've got one for you" . 2 hours on the meter with a 48 inch deck $3000. Loaded it right on the trailer. It cuts about 4 acres a week with 450 hours on it now. It is also used with my DR lawn & leaf vac in the fall. Great combination. Thanks for all the info and knowledge I've gained from you guys. STAY SAFE !

13 pointsI sat down to watch "Follow that Bird" with my kids. It's the movie from 1985 when Big Bird is adopted by a family of DoDo birds in Oceanside, IL. He tries to walk back to Sesame St.. To my surprise, a late 70s wheel horse makes a few appearances, and Waylon Jennings showed up too! Working on getting pics.... my mac blocks screenshots of itunes movies. Edit: This is my phone photographing my laptop.

11 pointsWe got nearly 2" of rain here in the past two days and it's still raining. Of course we are all looking for excises to get outside, so I told Mrs. K I was putting on my rain gear and going to roll the lawn. She said, don't you have a cab on one of your tractors. Yep, there sits the poor 520H that hasn't had any work for several years. BTW, I took the blower off two years ago and it did not trigger any blizzards. Just the opposite, I had to hurry and plow the couple small snows before they melted. So , I got two hours of seat time rolling the lawn with the snow machine. It worked great...plenty of traction and grunt, and I was warm and dry.

8 pointsWell, I watched the whole thing and I got up to re-fill my cocktail and I had to hang on to anything I could find to keep from falling down. You just need to mount it on a helmet Norm...that's the ticket.

6 pointsAs long as I remember there has been a well rusted (or as some people like to call it "patina") 867 wheel horse sitting in my grandparent's barn. I loved that thing, and I always promised myself that I would own it one day. Well now, 15 years later, it's sitting in my garage. The best part is, it was free and it runs perfect. I drove it all the way to my house, which is actually only about a 1/2 mile from my grandparent's house, but it felt like a very long time. The first thing I did was put a stack on it. It just felt right that it should have one. Today was a very rainy day, but that doesn't get in the way of having some fun on my horse! I decided to take the 867 for a rip around the block. My neighbors probably hate me because it so loud with its stack, but I don't care. I own my dream tractor.

5 pointsSee Eric's video's of him driving through his woods,I thought I'd see if I could rig something up to attempt one or two myself. Cobbled up a bracket to mount my camera to the C-125. Bit flimsy, but worked. Something better will be made/procured. https://youtu.be/rsAuQVGhQlQ https://youtu.be/7XT07Z6VFw8

5 pointsSitting outside watching the paint dry on my front rj wheels ! Removed the snowblower from my 314-8 this am and then removed both front wheels! My Dico front tires are dry rotted and I bought a new set of Deli front tires. A little wider looking than the 16x6.50x8’s on my B-80 but I think they will be good for use with my tiller. I also bought some Deestone tri-ribs for an RJ project I am doing. I am using the 3.50 x 8’s this time. I saw these on a suburban and they looked great!

5 pointslol you got taken for sure don't we all aspire to be taken like this more in the future !

5 pointsThanks for the comments on the barn. My 250 year old barn didn't survive the snows in 2011. Luckily I had most everything out before it collapsed. A friend of mine has a sawmill so in the fall of 2011 we had a barn raising. To me it feels like being in northern Maine, it's a great place to hide. My Jeep's a 1981 CJ-5, I've had it for about 25 years. Got carried away and put a Chevy fuel injected 5.3 with a Muncie SM465 a few years ago. Scary power for a 2500 pound vehicle. Hey JCM, I bought my 1993 310-8 new for $3000 with a 37 SD, and bagger. The hour meter stopped working about 20 years ago with 480 hrs. My cousin went with me to pick it, to expensive he said. He bought a big box green machine for $1800. He just bought his 5th "tractor" last spring. Over the years I've put 4 new tires, fuel pump, seat, axle seals, brake band, couple belts, plugs and lots of oil changes. I just finished replacing the hood stand. The raised ring that hold the lift arm bushing broke off. I did find a used hood stand online cheap but basically had only the wheels and engine on the frame to replace it, lots of work. I guess 27 years of lifting the snow blower took it's toll. Has anyone else had this problem ? Not a bad return for my investment. You used to get what you paid for.

5 pointsI know... but I gotta chime in... I do not like or want heated seats or steering wheels... Don’t have any but have driven with them... As a Michigander I love winter cold and get way too hot with heated seats and wheels... plus it’s just another thing on the computers we call cars that will break, malfunction, trip an idiot light etc... Of course, having said all that, should my wife wish a vehicle with such accoutrements, it shall be done...

5 pointsPerhaps a DoDo Bird foot adaptor? With those big floppy feet it would be tough to operate a .

5 pointsMore pics of Trina's painting prowess. Love the copper color on the hubs Lift handle is the same metallic brown textured as the frame/transmission. This'll likely end up being my clutch. Transmission is ready for installation

4 pointsI usually run them out of fuel once I get them in the basement while fogging them out with marvel mystery oil. So as you can imagine the start up makes A LOT OF SMOKE. So as you can also imagine this makes for a not so happy wife when the house smells and the CO2 detectors are going off!! 😂😜

4 pointsHad a chance to start all the horses today. The ones that have been setup for snow duty haven't been run in weeks. Then the Commandos haven't been run since last fall. Only one groaned a bit about starting but did finally take off and run smoothly. And now we're getting pea-sized hail, a very interesting day its been. Rain to begin the day and windy. Then the sun came out but wind became stronger gusting up to 40mph and it got close to 60 degrees. And now the rain and hail. Upstate NY in the Spring and the end of March

4 pointsWell, hell that was easy. Looks like he had one and I ordered it. Thanks so much for nudging me in the right direction. I'm sure I'll be ordering more over the coming weeks.

4 pointsIf you only know @c-series don how many times I have said the same thing about RS members here trying to figure something out, it cracks me up, where else could you get this much satisfaction and entertainment for the low price of being a Red Square Member, if the Non-Members only knew what really goes on behind the scenes.

4 points@dells68 I think that engine looks great. I was hoping you would go with the camo scheme but I think it will look like it should red. I was going to try to find camo vinyl to make a seat but I can't find anything that is the old military camo in vinyl . I did make a red, white and blue seat for my 1054 that I will finish when the weather permits. I've still got to make one for my 1054. Even if I dont finish it myself.

4 pointsI absolutely love how you guys analyzed the heck out of this! Plain ole cracks me up! BTW if the tractor is in motion in the forth picture the clutch pedal is down!😜
-
4 pointsNICE , barn, yard and tractors. In 1989 I bought a new 312-8 with a 42'' SD deck , chrome wheel covers and a tractor cover for $ 3400.00 , I think I got taken .Still runs like the day I bought it. Very nice collection.
-
4 pointsHa - yeah, extra parts...some good stories there. My friend assembled the tractors at Sears. Spare parts were a regular thing. Ever flip a Briggs vertical 7HP to horizontal? The Simplicity dealer in Kenvil NJ laughed but let me rummage out back in the drums. I used a spoon as a dipper and it ran like stink on the minibike, until the spoon fell off. At 17, a spoon made sense. I'm better now, thank you.

4 pointsI did finally get around to paint yesterday. I spent all day Friday sanding all of the panels. Got up with the chickens yesterday and it took about 3 hours and almost 8 cans of regal red. If you’ve never tried to paint one of these things, they are huge!!! Especially after you paint both sides of everything! I’ll try to post some pics this week as it goes back together. Ha e a good Sunday folks!!

4 pointsThe lift rod works! I cut about 5-1/2” off the lift tube. Wow those things are thick!
-
4 pointsI do this to get rid of all the slop in all the components. Make up a pin from 1/2" rod (I used stainless steel) then drill out the front hitch and the 2 hood pivots. Oversize hood pivot pin.pdf As you can see I use cotter pins and washers instead of the E-clips.

4 pointsMade a little progress on my two seater round hood today

3 pointsGot more done on a rainy day.. Pulled the masking tape off the transmission and discovered that the axle seals didn't set right on installation. Changed both axle seals and drive input seal. (Hadn't done the input seal yet). Fiddled around with the 7" adapter for awhile. Had to clearance a couple holes. Got that lined up nicely and bolted it to the transmission. Installed the seat spring, helper coil and seat. I put the wheel bolts in the hubs and installed the hubs on the axles. I popped the wheels on to test for clearance. If left as is I'll have only 2.5" on the closer side between the seat and tire. I'm going to install 3" spacers so that'll give me 5.5" on the left and more on the right.

3 pointsYou're killin' me here Eric, all these photos and videos of your treks in the woods. We have a place in Virginia that we (mostly I) go to about a dozen times a year. One of the biggest attractions for me is to walk or take the tractor up into the woods and just wander around. I'm sure you understand, it clears the head and is generally just a wonderful reward for all the work I do on the place there. I would have been down there at least once already this year, but the coronavirus thing is making us nervous about traveling anywhere, much less 300 plus miles away. So your pics and vids are frustrating for me to watch, but also a heck of a lot of fun, so keep 'em coming, please!

3 pointsWhile the loss of farms is surely a bad thing, we stood by while so much of our manufacturing went under. Now we are faced with some serious challenges with so little capability to produce the items to make us whole again. Real people making real products for real wages (like tractors) is what built this country, not the pencil pushers and traders.

3 pointsI always called things like that "Jesus clips" cause when they fall i would say; "Jesus where did that go"! Of course there was no answer cause he has got bigger fish to fry but now I shove paper towel in all the orifices and I even close the choke and sometimes put a rubber glove over the carb. Plus a flexible magnet is standard part of the tool caddie.

3 pointshello ,sam , great opportunity to keep that going , easy wipe down with some wd40 on a rag . will feed that paint , stop the rust and bring out the look you want, another thing that you said was the 1/2 mile drive home , terrific start on total drive line oil / lubricant heat up for draining / flushing , my experience would be to do that drive a couple of times ( at least ) . get some seafoam in the gas , bring a small tool kit , aerosol carb cleaner , .stop ,adjust and find out what you have . don,t for get to change the shift boot , probably torn / rotted , use silicone grease on shifter rod for easy replacement . done those very things , a number of times on a base line ,look see for overall operation. this is my own experience , no offence to anyone with a different view , pete
