18 pointsWell, I’m in the new fandangled brotherhood of Blackhoods, I suppose! This already has a steel fender pan and the FEL makes the hood look most proportionate. I’m doing a base line on this. The front axle is very tight, spindles are well greased and one tie rod is a bit loose but nothing to worry about. There is one outer wheel bearing that is sloppy, so I’ll add that to a needed list. I am going to remove the hood for safe keeping for a bit. There’s a bit of a miss that I plan to diagnose and other than fluids, this is a good solid tractor. @jay bee told @zekepiks that I was looking for a FEL and Skip responded to me via Redsquare. I appreciate them both! I have yet to meet Jay Bee, but Skip is a very nice man and was as up front and honest as he possibly could be with everything. I’m tickled Pink!

8 pointsThinking it's time to add 1 more pic before I miss the midnight cut-off for submitting to this thread. This pic is not any of my tractors but another member who lives north of me and someone who loves WH tractors along with his honey as much if not more than anyone of us. Good night Eric & Trina and stay safe through all of this and this goes to all the RS members and family.

7 pointsHere is one of my favorite vises. Extremely rare pre-patent machinists vise from about 1890's. Very early one serial #534. It weighs about 90Lbs. Restored it about 16 years ago and used it ever since. Really versatile it has become an indispensable part of shop. http://mprime.com/Emmert/other_4a_cas.htm

5 pointsThe mix of oil and sawdust may become a fire hazard. It appears that tractor may belong to a woodworker.

5 pointsHey lookitt here..... I participated in this thread and I didn't have to do any work! We are doing well Jim. Hope everyone out there is.

5 pointsWe are forecasted for six or seven inches up in my hills. On the plus side. Trina will get to use the nice brand new Ariens walk behind that I bought two months ago and have barely touched.
-
5 pointsGreat thread @Sparky I might as well put a few more on here, some real nice pics showing up from the members.

4 pointsEven though all metal work is done in another separate shop, I often need to do some light metal work associated with woodworking such as metal inlays or hardware modification, usually involving non ferrous metals. For that I have this small anvil (15Lbs) mounted on a cedar beam that I can just move around as needed.

4 pointslast night I decided to take the carburetor off and put in a new kit on my 414-8. As I got farther and farther into it I noticed more and more grease pile up and build up everywhere. So I decided also as well to adjust the valves and clean under all the tins. When I got the tins off here is what I found underneath. It's amazing this motor didn't heat up on me.

4 pointsFor future reference - "Store (Support RS)" button at the top of the every page - just click on it and it goes right to the options. I have found the site to be worth it. I share your interest in a quieter ride so I appreciate this thread!

4 pointsWelcome to the Club! Took you long enough... Details! My C-105's want details of their new Michigan cousin...!

4 pointsIn all seriousness though. Trina, her mom, and I, have spoken quite a good many times over the last three or four years about the fact that we want to move to a much more rural location with more land. As you can imagine this virus outbreak is only increasing that desire exponentially. One of the housing options that we have discussed is to purchase two or three of those very prefab sheds. One for us, one for her mom, one for storage while we build a larger shop.

4 points@pullstart and @ebinmaine Please, I know it will be hard, but you can forego the usual extensive pictures and video documentation... Please...

4 pointsHeading to meet a Redsquare member. Trailer in tow and a little maple syrup on the helm! Thanks again @jay bee for your help!

4 pointsI’m slowly getting out of the snowplowing business after 30+ years. I started plowing parking lots at age 17 when my uncle gave me a few accounts. I used to skip school to plow snow!! Something tells me that kids don’t do that nowadays?! Eventually grew that business to five trucks, two #33,000 GVW trucks subcontracted to the local township and three one ton trucks with sanders for parking lots and private subdivisions. I’m currently down to one truck with a plow and sander and about a dozen accounts. Even though I’ve made damn good money in the business it’s blood money! Although the past two years here we’ve had hardly any snow which is unheard of. It will be a happy day in my life when I don’t HAVE TO go plow snow, for now I could still use the money. I’m looking forward to the day when I can just get on my 417-A with the cab and two stage blower, do my driveway and come back in the house and put another log on the fire 🔥 Here is me with my first truck in the winter of 86-87 back when I absolutely loved it!😂 Sorry if I got off topic!

3 pointsJust became owner of a 1971 GT 14. I grew up on a farm in Iowa with lots of tractor experience. Now a sailing captain with some experience on diesel engines. Love the old wheel horses and ran across this GT 14. Tractor appears to be original but has some issue. Posting the picture....sure it will get some chuckles...or groans....previous OP must have been a Dukes of Hazzard fan! Would appreciate a shout out from GT 14 experts as I have some issues to deal with. Looking for more of a work tractor at this point.... Thanks!

3 pointsI am a NASCAR fan, and like other sports fans had not been getting my regular fix. This past weekend FOX Sports aired an "Irace" (internet race) featuring NASCAR drivers at home racing a "Virtual" race at the Homestead FL track. Had some driver interviews and it was great! Right after the Homestead race FOX aired the 1986 Richmond VA spring race. It was so well received that they are going to do it every weekend until the on track racing returns. Hats off to FOX !

3 pointsWell, I might make a few folks unhappy, but a couple of things played into my decision on color. First, I don’t want to go to Lowe’s or Wally World to get more paint because of all of the stuff going on right now. I’m avoiding crowds due to Emory’s difficulty with chest viruses and having difficulty coughing anything up, from the stroke we suspect. Secondly, we have lots of regal red on hand and how can you go wrong with a shiny, pretty red horse? Well without further delay, here’s the Onan after a little paint and detailing.

3 pointsIt's nice to have a FEL without having to build it from scratch. I would assume after that Bathroom reno use deserve a break. Take care or yourself so you and family will hopefully be able to enjoy the BS. Good luck with the loader, and remember when the bucket's full , travel with the loader LOW.
-
3 pointsNice!! But somehow l dont think you will be able to reach the top of the rack with it. You'll have to send us a video of it in action!
-
3 pointsWhen times of butt wipe are scarce, my wife found this amazing roll of shop rags on Amazon on one of their flash sales!
-
3 pointsSuper nice! I’ve always loved the BlackHoods and the addition of a loader makes it even better

3 pointsLike to hear that Mike.. I fear our big local only GT show in Portage WI in July is going to canceled as well as our other must attend shows. If it does I'm going to have a show here at the ranch. Might just be me and @Achto and a few others in attendance but we'll still have line ups, good eats & booze cruzes!
-
3 pointsGreat minds think alike Richie! I was thinking as soon as he was in my possession... Digger? Scoop? Maybe @stevasaurus should weigh in on this topic, or @PeacemakerJack? We all know @WHX24 doesn’t claim to name tractors, but has been known to!

3 pointsOne big difference between this virus and the flu is that there is no effective cure for this virus. None. If the virus is still running wild and the country is basically shut down in June the Show will the least of our concerns. By that time many of our older members (myself include) might not be here. All of us will probably have buried a family member or close friend. Many members will be having serious financial problems. Tractor shows will not be a priority. For those of you who insist on going anywhere you want and do whatever you want, stay away from any of your elderly or sickly family members or friends. If you insist on seeing them apologize for killing them. You won't be able to visit them in the hospital or go to their funeral so do it in advance.

3 pointsAs far as I'm concerned there is no other way to remove a stuck WH steering wheel. Thank you thank you thank you 1000 times. This made an otherwise daunting task easy as pie. My restoration can now continue. Anyone wanna buy my shaft coupler I made? Lol

3 pointsWhere I live, this is an opportunity for the State Boys to sharpen their cutting edges on the road!
-
3 points@ebinmaine @pullstart i dont think it would be very comfortable for our whole family lol...that being said before i met Krystal and the boys I seriously thought about installing a better heat source, putting an old couch along the west wall under the shelves, and moving into it myself

3 pointsWelcome to the forum! If all tests out good, I would certainly try the JB weld approach. Cleaning the area good might not be enough, though. If it is leaking as bad as it appears, I would think that fluid would begin running out and contaminating the surface before you got the JB weld on and cured. If it were me, I would drain the fluid and then raise the side of the tractor with the leak so that any residual fluid would run away from the bearing cap. Use brake cleaner to clean the surface. I have seen JB weld survive under significant stress in the past. Sealing off a leak ought to be an easy task for it! Just be sure to use JB-Weld and not JB-Kwik. It doesn't stand up nearly as well to heat and water.

3 pointsThanks @Bear G, we needed that. Hear are a few I would love to bring to the Big Show.

3 pointsPull the steering wheel shaft and instrument panel as a unit Then you can clamp it in a vice support the shaft next to the wheel and drive out even recalcitrant roll pins. Then use emery cloth to clean the shaft 2-3" below the wheel. Now stand the whole unit up in your vice with the Gear end down against the vice body. Climb up on a step stool with a deep wheel socket that will fit over the shaft yet rest on the steering wheel hub. Then wail away with a BFH and drive the wheel down on to the cleaned up portion of the shaft. Then clean up the end of the shaft and you can slide the wheel off. done this on several stuck wheels.
