10 pointsHi all, I've been quite for a while, but I've still been wrangling horses. My first addition was about 3 weeks ago now RJ58 with a plow Glad to finally have an RJ58 also grabbed a tombstone weight need to find a mounting bracket for it. Next this past Saturday I took an 800 mile round trip to get a 953 Runs good, need to put it through the paces before I see its a worker or not. Also very glad to have sitting next to my 1054 I believe I got an early 953 Thanks for looking, Brian

10 pointsAfternoon, all. Saturday morning, a WH with no photo appeared locally on Facebook for sale. After some chatter, I went to look at it Sunday morning.. it wound up being a neglected old 264-H.. which I actually did save for some reason. It was on a 9 acre lot, full of pre-60's trucks of all sorts. Other old various machinery too. They are scrapping a lot out, and I had to ask if any old stationary engines, or other machinery remained.. I was first taken to an 80's TroyBilt rider. About this point, the fellow who was helping the owners with clearing the property, remembered an 'old walk behind mower'. Which he had not seen in years. This turned out, apparently, to be an old 2 wheel tractor. He literally did not know where it was sitting anymore, and claimed the last time it moved was 1975. When the handle broke off and it was simply left in place. After some hours of walking the lot, it finally was found. The builder's badge says South Bend, IN. Is this a Pond?? Looks a lot like my Midland I used to own. I'm not too sure who really made it. It was sunk in the ground a but, missing a handle as claimed. No air cleaner or muffler. Stuck tight. We eventually managed to break it out of the ice with a torch and johnson bars. A deal was made and I dragged the sad wreck home Found the spark plug had literally rusted in half. Pulled the head to find much rust and other trash. The carb is trash. So I filled the bore with atf/acetone mix and left an electric heater on it for some hours. A little persuasion from a pipe wrench, and it spun free.. so I filed the points and managed to get a weak spark. Flywheel magnets are weak and it'll need a recharge. Fitted a later model carb to it for the time being. Later yesterday evening, we tried to fire it up. Got some pops, and then the rusted out plug blew out of the head.. Wound up welding an EZ out to the remains and levering it out. Can not believe the tool did not snap.. With a new plug in, and some more fuel.. broke out another old engine to roll it over. The results speak for themselves The machine actually pulled itself along later in the day. Need to work the sickle bar loose. Both tires eventually split and blew. The engine is a 1949 briggs and Stratton model 8.

9 pointsThese past couple of weekends we've been working on our forest clearing project and between that and winter I haven't had a lot of time to work on this tractor. We spent some time yesterday evening working on the transmission. Cleaning it up a little more. I need to finish checking over the bearings and inspect the high low shift fork. At that point I'll be ready to assemble it. I finished cleaning the axles I got from @19richie66 and built the differential. These axles add about 6" to the total width of the rear.

-
5 pointsCORRECT!!! American Farmer Farm Specialist AG tires. 7.60 - 15. They are in the 8 inch section width class. Outside diameter after installation should end up at about 30 inches.

4 pointsSo... Will it pull a standard plow? Is fuel consumption similar to an 8 hp Kohler? Will it have enough power to pull a standard tub cart with fire wood in it?
-
4 pointsSo, our second building control inspector came out today. The lintels and doorway are fine, no issues at all. But he was concerned about the possibility of fire spreading from stored materials. He suggested plaster boarding the whole area, but then realised the whole under floor area was one big room and it wasn't feasible to do that. So he compromised by requesting a mains smoke alarm be fitted in the space in case of fire. No issues with that so I will sort that out in due course. Concrete saw tomorrow to cut out the door and make up a temporary door the secure the area till I make the steel door to fit. All looks set fair to continue. Mick

4 pointsTen holes in less than 15 minutes. That's amazing. Thumbs up for big toys. Next we have to wait for inspection of the depth of the footers. Amazing. Building inspector was here already and signed off. Next is concrete in the holes.

4 pointsLast night I played with trying to find spot welds on the top skin of the hood. It’s not that easy every time! I found plenty of spots they aren’t! Switching to a wire wheel on the disc grinder made it a little easier to strip paint and not metal, but it was still a challenge. Finally I flipped the hood over and gave the really rusty areas a good scuff. They popped pretty well and I will try to measure them and drill from the other side. I also thought about maybe drilling a small pilot straight through that would be easy to weld shut.

4 pointsI kinda like how it turned out. After I get my chicken coop built rear wheel weights go on for plow time.

3 pointsMy dad made three drawbar hitches for our 953/1054 tractors. These attach to the rear angle iron snowplow/dozer hitch and can be used in tandem with the slot hitch as they ride below the slot hitch.

3 pointsYah??? Well Dan is gonna make enchiladas for plow day this year and it's all gonna be gone 'for you get here!

3 pointsYah I know a really good one ...a lot of the guys ther know a thing or three about trailers & axles and all kinds of gear head crap... Heres a link..... https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/

3 pointsOk Jim, i try to answer this questions as honestly as i can ... 😎😂😂😂😉 first question, i‘m sure it will do, maybe not the finest plow rows, but definitively the funniest plow waves.... 😇 😂 question 2 - on such a „small engine“ machine, fuel consumption is out of compare, because it’s a proof of concept for a new economy class 😎 that could be closer compared to a hot rod. 😂😂😂 last not least your final question - aehm, i guess it is able to pull a huge trailer, - except the brake situation, but i bet it will be able to bring you the firewood for a complete Wintersaison.🤪😂😂 ok, i think i must a little rethinkering about the brake thing in my scenario, but the Sound on the parade will be definitely a burner, and be that Cool even in idle.

3 pointsGonna pick this up and a few other things on the way to the big show @bmsgaffer is storing it for me. Complete power steering setup for the loader.

3 pointsExcellent thread idea Daron!!! I don't have a decent before pic of Patriot although here's a video of the day of Trina's first tractor drive ever, on Patriot. When we first got it from @Stepney it was all "patina". Cinnamon has a build thread with it's nastiness in all its glory. Here's some of Trina's Pony before and after. Then the others as they are today. The one on the right is the 1267/1287 mongrel that didn't work out so I disassembled it. Near to far is Pony, Pigpen, Cinnamon and Patriot.

2 pointsI concur, this will give you more than enough room to do the job. I have also changed the pin and spring by removing the service port from the top and using needle nose with a flat head screwdriver to hold the spring back. I prefer silver anti seize as a lubricant that can be applied with a paint brush thru the service port.

2 pointsThey started to put the siding on and realized that they had framed for double hung windows instead of side-sliding, so they are now correcting that. Assuming they get that finished before the rain gets here or it gets too dark to work safely, they should be done most of it today. I did not see an overhead door in the delivered materials, so obviously that won't be done today. I don't know if same crew comes back to do concrete, but that should only be a day as well.

2 pointshey i've got armrests, i use em to hold on to when its trying to buck me off also im feeling the ploughing itch again, might enter some competitions again this year

2 pointsWe always indexed the plugs on our Harleys, even when adding a second plug to the head which was always done on worked over motors. Never heard of short strapping till now. Dan @Achto care to comment on this?

2 pointsA gift from Rodney Burger when I was in Florida this moth! These little Original Clinton mufflers have a great sound and can be used on your Kohler motors too! Rodney Burger (lawnman_56) had it on his Suburban motor! i am going to use on one of my RJ’s!
